Petition about possibility to unlock bootloader in G Pro - LG Optimus G Pro

Hello everybody!
I'm a LG G2 user, but i'm trying to unite all dissatisfied LG users to sign up to my petition, for more informations check my G2 thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/general/petition-possibility-to-unlock-t2832013) or just read the quote from it:
Hello!
I don't know, maybe someone remembers me from P880 forum
Whatever - in that time the 4X HD had locked bootloader which no one was able to unlock it, so I decided to make a petition about it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852721). We succeed and we could unlock the bootloader via fastboot oem unlock in Jelly Bean update.
Now LG did it again, their G2 and G3 flagships as well as some other devices are locked as hell again. I decided today to reopen my petition and share this message to You guys so maybe we could get the unlockable bootloader again, or at least a way to unlock it like it is for example HTC phones.
Here's the link to the petition:
http://www.change.org/petitions/lg-...opportunity-to-unlock-bootloader-in-lg-phones
Let's have at least some hope for it, so we could get easier development and also G3 development could rise.
My reopened petition has 4031 supporters (for now) so it should be a little visible

Individual emails have also the meaning. If You have a minute, please send emails to these addresses, also don't forget to mention about our petition:

[email protected]
(to moderators: yes, it's my copy/paste i make on few LG phones' sections, I don't spam, I just share the message to LG users and want to do something for community as I did in the past)
EDIT: I'm posting in G3's petition thread to prevent (my) spam, also G3 community is the most active, so that's why I decided to keep posting and updating there:

@reas0n
Thanks for the initiative and for showing us that your last petition was worth it.
We, lg users, are incredulous to changes regarding lg's posture towards the community.
I'm all in. Got nothing to lose in signing the petition.
Hope we have massive adherence from lg users.
Thx once again.

You product and sell phones. Group of your customers whishes you to do something you didn't intend to do. It's not a matter of your will - if you agree, you are to measure with thousands of dead phones. On the second hand the "pettitioners" have already bought your products. Will you agree? Of course. NOT!!!!

@wjazdbitu
Ya got nothing to lose signing the petition.
Besides, your arguments are logical.
People are not. And LG people are the ones to make that decision.

Could you specify the E980 in the list of devices on the petition. The reason I am asking this is because when Motorola released the bootloader unlocks for their flagship devices the Atrix 2 never got an unlock so I am worried they will do something similar to the users with the E980.

I mention G2 and G3 but it doesn't mean the petition only supports them. It's about the unlock solution for all LG phones, like it is with HTC, Sony etc

Good to see you're still on this. I was on board the last petition. I actually saw you were up to some more activity over on the G2 forums (Little brother just got a G2) so I was awaiting your update over here. Needless to say you haven't disappointed
Anyway I'm going to make a reddit just to upvote you. Best of luck on the LG unlock and thank you for doing this!

I think that Motorola wants to unlock it because bad reviews from devs.
Sent from my MOTO Defy
Not to mention the bad PR they received when that schmuck handling their YouTube account posted that users should "look elsewhere because they will continue to do what works for them".
Can you believe that?! Motorola's an ungrateful b*tch! If it weren't for us, they'd have closed operations a long time ago. It's us, their Android users, that are saving their *sses!
Leaving alone that customization becomes a topic more and more important to the "technically apt" customers and a locked bootloader makes them "look elsewhere".
Maybe they also realize sometime that devs normally influence a large number of people in their consumer behavior, be it by their dev work or in their direct social environment.
Wait and see...
And hope it's retroactive and not just a new more open bootloader for new phones.
They starting to ask about bootloader!!
Lest keep asking Motorola!!
Maybe we and it someware!!

You do realise they didn't actually say that, right?
I really hope they do remove all the restrictions that are there just now but what they said was actually fairly non-committal unfortunately.
Exactly.
1. If I buy my phone from retail store (not unusual here), then there's no *partner* to concern with. So, give me an unlocked bootloader *now*?
2. They may only offer it for certain models, or certain SIM-locked models from certain operators.
I'll believe it when I see it.

Why don't we ask?

Well as the thread says why don't we ask a LG ROM builder. There's a article in android.central that says +Ricardo Cerqueira is a LG mastermind and has worked with LG flagship phones. Maybe if enough of us ask him he will probably help. I'd be willing to donate to get this going.

I mean if someone could get through to him and see if he's up for it, wouldn't mind helping out. Would love to see CM7 or something on this Optimus. Although, I am content with the current setup I got going.
Do you know his username here, or he goes by that name? I'd be willing to shoot him a PM or two to request for his help.

Well, I guess the best thing to do is not to spam him with requests. First, i think you should try reaching out to him and see if he will respond back to you. Then if he feels the need to see how many people are eager, then we will join in to request.
I am already trying to reach out to some Devs that have helped us over at the Atrix Forum, and hopefully they will be willing to spend some time helping us. Particularly right now I'm trying to speak with the guy who did CWM for the Atrix.
I would be willing to donate to a dev to get the ball rolling.

[RELEASED!] ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.1.5 for Sprint Optimus G [tethered]

Well, hallo there!
It's been a while since I've posted a release thread on XDA... I've been lurking in the shadows (and on IRC) for quite some time.
Here, I present to you a teaser of things to come:
ClockworkMod Recovery (non-touch) 6.0.1.5 for the Sprint Optimus G.
What is this?
This is a "recovery" for your phone, it allows you to install custom ROMs, back up your phone, fix it when it breaks, and much more.
This specific version is "ClockworkMod", which was created by the CyanogenMod team and Koush.
There are many recovery versions out there, I have picked ClockworkMod because it is very easy to compile and debug.
I will compile other recoveries as time permits.
Click to collapse
Where can I get it?
Please go here to download it: http://downloads.codefi.re/thecubed/lgoptimusg/sprint/recoveries/
Note: this is a "tethered" build of CWM, as you can not flash it. You must use fastboot to boot the image every time you wish to enter recovery.
This is due to the locked bootloader on this device.
This will not allow you to install a custom ROM just yet, and please don't ask for custom ROM dates yet. I'm working on it...
READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!
This is *not* safe, and should *not* be done by anyone unsure of what they are doing.
I will post links once I have ironed out bugs, but I WILL NOT SUPPORT anyone using it to modify their phone.
Please don't use this if you don't know how to LGNPST your phone back from the dead, should you accidentally kill it.

Special thanks to user Shelnutt2 for helping me test this on the Sprint variant.
Here's a pic of it running on his Optimus G:
And, here's a video for extra proof
Luckily the video quality isn't potato, but the audio sure is. My explanation is that my HTC Vivid doesn't like me. An engineer's explanation would be that I was speaking softly, as it was 1:30AM at the time of recording, and the phone merely decided that my meek volume was purely background noise... at least, I think that's what an engineer would say, as I haven't graduated yet.

Great work
This is a great start. I can not thank you enough. Like someone mentioned in the petition thread, even if you are not planning to buy this device, please sign the petition for lg to unlock the phone. We need to get a culture of unlocked bootloaders going. Again thanks for the good work
Thanks for the share.. works great.
Does this mean the bootloader is unlock?

Y'all know about the quiet before the storm?
It's coming.
Trust me.
If you were in IRC today, you know what I mean. If not, just wait a few days. We've got very exciting news. (Please, no PM's asking what/how/why just yet.)
Extra special thanks to IRC user g33k3r for stepping up and risking his device many times, Shelnutt2 for being awesome, and Vitaligent for an awesome new boardname.
Sprint Optimus G is codenamed the "geehrc", ATT's is the "geeb".
We're changing it.
Sprint is now the "jeebusc" and ATT is the "jeebus".
Expect some XDA silence for a few days while we build new kernels.
Has anyone provided the appropriate files for the LG U+ Korean variant (the device I am posting from)?

I would definitely be willing to provide the appropriate files for the LG U+ Korean variant. However I have never used IRC. If the OP would be willing to PM me instructions I would do my best to get the files to him.
EDIT: No rush, no pressure. I understand that the US domestic carriers are certainly priority in this endeavor, once OP has everything ironed out, perhaps then he may be interested/ willing to include international carriers/ variants.

Recovery Is posted under the download link. I attempted to reboot tethered into recovery you posted, but fastboot doesn't seem to want to detect my device. Lg drivers are installed and debugging is on, any thoughts?
So, here's a quick update:
We've got lots of work to do. We have a _very_ viable avenue for FULL AOSP compatibility.
Right now, us developers need to sit down and talk about some major changes to the phone-- and plan out a 'disaster recovery' scenario, since this is no longer a 'quick modification' of the system, but a full AOSP conversion.
Without saying too much, we have quite a bit of proof to support our theories, and a member of the development team is now running the first build of Android 4.2 on his/her Optimus G with very few issues.
It suffers from the same issues that the Nexus 4 does-- for instance, benchmarks are ~4500 as opposed to the 7500 that have been reported by members of the community.
At this point in time though, we will be working "behind closed doors" for a few days until we can come up with a workable solution to this, as the current method is very long and convoluted, and will cause confusion with the Sprint version.
Since I'm posting this same reply on both of my threads (sprint and ATT), I'll give the Sprint update here too...
We've run into some issues with the Sprint version, although it is possible that they'll be easily rectified here in the coming days. Suffice it to say though that we have made less progress with the Sprint variant than the ATT variant (oddly enough). However, I've got some ideas (*cough cough* GPT partition trickery) that should fix the issue.
As usual-- PLEASE do not message myself of any of the other developers asking for an ETA. I know y'all are anxious, but if you really need to know, just stop by IRC and listen for a few mins, you'll probably hear us chattering away about hex offsets and load addresses in between me and my coworker tending to b0rked RHEL installs and Juniper firewalls.
In regards to LGNPST, look for a writeup here soon... I know it's been a source of frustration to some of you on the IRC channel, however please don't expect that I have a full 4 hours to devote to teaching commandline basics for Windows.
Once again, much thanks goes out to Shelnutt2, g33k3r, ilkinasr92, and xboxfanj for all the hard work.
Expect updates on XDA as they come, as usual.
Peace!
You guys are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Full AOSP support!?!?!? Wow, i had to wait months on my last phone. I can't wait so excited!!

Do Something about the lack of development - Sign this petition now!!

Like many users here, I am disappointed by the pace of development. I understand that the T-mobile version is the only one that has a unlocked bootloader and that limits the interest on development as many potential devs have other variants. Many users here (myself included) are not knowledgeable enough to develop anything ourselves. The less enlightened (to put it nicely) non-developers complain like crazy while others sit quietly for a paragon developer to come along. There are a few developers who are doing great work bringing CM11 and DeviantXone to our phones. Either way most of us non-developers really don't have any opportunity to make a difference... until now.
There is a petition that is taking off at change.org. It has already received a response from LG and with more signatures, could lead to a change. The petition is asking for LG to unlock the bootloader of the phone. This should increase the number of developers by a substantial amount. Developing for the LG G3 is much better than developing for just the D851.
Please join Sebastian Jena's campaign: Click here to sign the petition!

I wouldn't call what going on right now a lack of development. We have both stock based and cyanogenmod based Roms. When the cyanogenmod Roms that are out now become stable we will see a lot of ports for our phone. Its not that big of a deal but the petition is a great idea for the rest of the world. Just so you are aware most g3 versions can have stock based Roms but there seems to only be one actively developed ROM at a time over in the generic g3 section because the rest of the world has the same problem us T-Mobile folks do (lack of people willing to step up and learn how to do this stuff). I give it another month at most until we see stable cyanogenmod.
Goes back to 1% who modify their phones vs. Corporate clients who insist on security.... Who do you think cell providers and manufacturers are going to listen too....?

This is a valid point but I am not sure that many corporate clients support android devices nevermind the LG G3. Everywhere I have worked has been iphone and blackberry but the sample size is only 3 so I could be way off about this. Also they usually listen to the loudest of us. Even if we are outnumbered 10 to 1, we still stand a chance as long as we make more noise in support of this than they do in support of the status-quo. Even if you are right though, it doesn't take long to sign up and it is probably the biggest difference I and other non-developers can make so why not try at least?
I'd be fine with signing it, but then I'll get loads of emails from them, which I don't want.

For the record.... How many bootloaders been unlocked by a cell provider after initial release... And modding community is probably outnumbered by 100 to 1 or more likely more..and loud noise doesn't over come revenue stream... Be glad some providers release a dev phone for purchase.

You still may want to edit.your post. You spend far too long complaining about the lack of developing and how no one is deloping and.far less on why the phone should be unlike. Wasn't until the ending that I was like...oh he's not making a petition because no one is developing but to unlock the boot loader....
I also noticed the lack of development behind the G3.
Its a great phone, but if you want a phone with development youll have to get a HTC or Samsung or Nexus.
Even the Samsung devices with locked bootloaders get more development lol.
Sold mine on Craigslist and I hve a Note 4 on preorder awaiting shipment.
There use to be a time where if you were dissapointed in the amount of development being done on a phone you learned how dev. Thats what was great about android. It is an open source system made for you to make it youelr own. Yes times have changed and and not everything is completely open (nothing was ever completely open), but i know there are still ways to learn. Yes you might think your too busy to learn but if you really want more development for this device you will find the time to learn and truly make your device yours.

There is development going on for the g3. Just the tmobile variant. Once the boot loader gets unlocked, it'll probably be easy to port them to the other variants. And it's not LG's fault that only tmobile's boot loader is unlocked. It's the cell provider's that wanted that. If everyone just gives up and moves to different phones, the devs will see no need to try and unlock the other bootloaders.
I signed it , hopefully they unlock it

We've started a petition yesterday on Change.org in an attempt to gain the attention of your company. We have gained over 250 signatures in less than 24 hours. There are many of us who feel it would be very beneficial to have the option to unlock the bootloaders on our G4 mobile devices. I understand you offer the option on one European model. We would like to respectfully request the option to unlock the bootloader on all models. This would benefit the development of your phone fiercely!
I am aware the results of your sales for the G4 are far below the projected sales volume. I can guarantee, the unlocking of the bootloaders would boost your sales significantly.

So, do demand. That won't kill your cat.
Just a suggestion, I would rename this topic to "Please sign the petition to LG, to unlock the bootloader for all G4 variants"
....and unlock bootloader for all but WITHOUT loose warranty !!! it's really possible ???!!!
And they can make this effort because it's daylight robbery ,scandalous, to buy a phone with a very big problem of hardware ("bootloop&dead" illness)
mine is still work but i sympathize with persons who have had this serious problem...

Dear Jun-Ho Cho,
We've started a petition on Change.org in an attempt to gain the attention of your company. We have gained over 1900+ signatures in less than 7 months.
Please Mr. Cho, consider our request.
Respectfully Yours,
*****YOUR NAME HERE*****

I respect the forum but this topic same as many other..So useless...
Look :http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/petition-to-lg-to-unlock-g4-bootloaders-t3142782
Guys keep in mind!!!! Only chans devs.LG never help ......
But good look and hello spam topic....(sorry)
I do know we are a minority here on XDA, compared to the whole mobile phone market. However I also know that many of us are asked when a friend or a relative tries to decide to a new device. So we actually have the power to influence enough amount of customers and shape the market. I, for one, have been doing this for many years. Now, there is no single person in my life with a Samsung device. I have talked them into other devices.
I know that this is a technical forum and needs to be well-organized. But in this case, just to show the power of us, customers, a few extra topic wouldn't hurt anyone.
I remember the times when companies backing off to "ok, we will honor the warranty because it is a manufacturing fault, so it has nothing to do with your device being rooted" and giving new phones to the rooted users couple years ago. And the reason behind it was the topics here, on XDA, about many people having the same problem.
So, long story short, showing how we are feeling about our devices and their companies (and also carriers sometimes) is necessary in the way I see things.
I think, more power to topics like these everywhere.
Whether you think it helps or not, switching off a light bulb that you are not using in your house, our sending a dollar somewhere in the world when you can spare it, makes a difference.
It's those people who start something that eventually save us all.
Onward.
