[RELEASED!] ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.1.5 for Sprint Optimus G [tethered] - Sprint LG Optimus G

Well, hallo there!
It's been a while since I've posted a release thread on XDA... I've been lurking in the shadows (and on IRC) for quite some time.
Here, I present to you a teaser of things to come:
ClockworkMod Recovery (non-touch) 6.0.1.5 for the Sprint Optimus G.
What is this?
This is a "recovery" for your phone, it allows you to install custom ROMs, back up your phone, fix it when it breaks, and much more.
This specific version is "ClockworkMod", which was created by the CyanogenMod team and Koush.
There are many recovery versions out there, I have picked ClockworkMod because it is very easy to compile and debug.
I will compile other recoveries as time permits.

Where can I get it?
Please go here to download it: http://downloads.codefi.re/thecubed/lgoptimusg/sprint/recoveries/
Note: this is a "tethered" build of CWM, as you can not flash it. You must use fastboot to boot the image every time you wish to enter recovery.
This is due to the locked bootloader on this device.
This will not allow you to install a custom ROM just yet, and please don't ask for custom ROM dates yet. I'm working on it...
READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!
This is *not* safe, and should *not* be done by anyone unsure of what they are doing.
I will post links once I have ironed out bugs, but I WILL NOT SUPPORT anyone using it to modify their phone.
Please don't use this if you don't know how to LGNPST your phone back from the dead, should you accidentally kill it.

The goods!
Special thanks to user Shelnutt2 for helping me test this on the Sprint variant.
Here's a pic of it running on his Optimus G:
And, here's a video for extra proof
Luckily the video quality isn't potato, but the audio sure is. My explanation is that my HTC Vivid doesn't like me. An engineer's explanation would be that I was speaking softly, as it was 1:30AM at the time of recording, and the phone merely decided that my meek volume was purely background noise... at least, I think that's what an engineer would say, as I haven't graduated yet.

SPECIAL THANKS!
Here's my favorite section of an XDA post: the "special thanks to" section.
Without the help of these awesome people, I would have nothing of interest to say, and would just be a random guy with a phone.
Seriously, these guys are awesome.
Here's the list (in no special order, and by IRC name):
Shelnutt2
sextape
xboxfanj
jonasl
kmdm
synergy
DeamonFish
chachin
..and Zanzibar (because why not?!)
If I've forgotten anyone, please let me know-- I want to make sure everyone who had a hand in this gets a shout-out.
Please, support these awesome people if you get a chance, or drop by the IRC channel and say hi

Has anyone gotten into fastboot via this method and tried fastboot oem unlock on the Sprint variant?

fastboot is the same as with the AT&T varient, aka oem unlock does nothing.

Great work
This is a great start. I can not thank you enough. Like someone mentioned in the petition thread, even if you are not planning to buy this device, please sign the petition for lg to unlock the phone. We need to get a culture of unlocked bootloaders going. Again thanks for the good work

Thanks for the share.. works great.

Does this mean the bootloader is unlock?
Hallowed Is The Sader

At this point no the bootloader is not unlocked though I wish it were I so want this phone but I'm going to wait for a few days and see if they make more progress

Any updates on how it's going? Looking forward to this! Thanks for your hard work!

Y'all know about the quiet before the storm?
It's coming.
Trust me.
If you were in IRC today, you know what I mean. If not, just wait a few days. We've got very exciting news. (Please, no PM's asking what/how/why just yet.)
Extra special thanks to IRC user g33k3r for stepping up and risking his device many times, Shelnutt2 for being awesome, and Vitaligent for an awesome new boardname.
Sprint Optimus G is codenamed the "geehrc", ATT's is the "geeb".
We're changing it.
Sprint is now the "jeebusc" and ATT is the "jeebus".
Expect some XDA silence for a few days while we build new kernels.

Has anyone provided the appropriate files for the LG U+ Korean variant (the device I am posting from)?

You guys are simply the best. Thank you so much for your hard work. I can't wait!

I would definitely be willing to provide the appropriate files for the LG U+ Korean variant. However I have never used IRC. If the OP would be willing to PM me instructions I would do my best to get the files to him.
EDIT: No rush, no pressure. I understand that the US domestic carriers are certainly priority in this endeavor, once OP has everything ironed out, perhaps then he may be interested/ willing to include international carriers/ variants.

Recovery Is posted under the download link. I attempted to reboot tethered into recovery you posted, but fastboot doesn't seem to want to detect my device. Lg drivers are installed and debugging is on, any thoughts?

So, here's a quick update:
We've got lots of work to do. We have a _very_ viable avenue for FULL AOSP compatibility.
Right now, us developers need to sit down and talk about some major changes to the phone-- and plan out a 'disaster recovery' scenario, since this is no longer a 'quick modification' of the system, but a full AOSP conversion.
Without saying too much, we have quite a bit of proof to support our theories, and a member of the development team is now running the first build of Android 4.2 on his/her Optimus G with very few issues.
It suffers from the same issues that the Nexus 4 does-- for instance, benchmarks are ~4500 as opposed to the 7500 that have been reported by members of the community.
At this point in time though, we will be working "behind closed doors" for a few days until we can come up with a workable solution to this, as the current method is very long and convoluted, and will cause confusion with the Sprint version.
Since I'm posting this same reply on both of my threads (sprint and ATT), I'll give the Sprint update here too...
We've run into some issues with the Sprint version, although it is possible that they'll be easily rectified here in the coming days. Suffice it to say though that we have made less progress with the Sprint variant than the ATT variant (oddly enough). However, I've got some ideas (*cough cough* GPT partition trickery) that should fix the issue.
As usual-- PLEASE do not message myself of any of the other developers asking for an ETA. I know y'all are anxious, but if you really need to know, just stop by IRC and listen for a few mins, you'll probably hear us chattering away about hex offsets and load addresses in between me and my coworker tending to b0rked RHEL installs and Juniper firewalls.
In regards to LGNPST, look for a writeup here soon... I know it's been a source of frustration to some of you on the IRC channel, however please don't expect that I have a full 4 hours to devote to teaching commandline basics for Windows.
Once again, much thanks goes out to Shelnutt2, g33k3r, ilkinasr92, and xboxfanj for all the hard work.
Expect updates on XDA as they come, as usual.
Peace!

You guys are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Full AOSP support!?!?!? Wow, i had to wait months on my last phone. I can't wait so excited!!

S-Off Achieved for Inc2

The developers over at alpharevx have achieved S-Off for our device. I volunteered (eagerly) to be a guinea pig. I can confirm that it works!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEva63LEJyQ
Be sure to donate to them. They have worked extremely hard to get s-off on the newest generation HTC devices.
I'm sure that support for the inc2 will be added to their lineup in a few days.
I've been wanting to join their community and offer help with my engineering expertise but I haven't had time :S (stupid job) I just might have to donate to them instead.
This is pretty awesome. I look forward to seeing what Roms come out before I jump the gun. My phone acted weird under temproot so I want to hold off until there are devs working on ROMS and can address issues. I can't wait to see some Sense3.0 things get ported over or full blown 3.0
This is great news!
I'd be more than happy to jump the gun, be a guinea pig, lab rat, etc if they need another test subject.
PMs welcome ;D

That is awsome. I don't really post on here, but I have been eagerly reading and checking every day. Waiting for a root. Im so excited! I love the phone already, it will be even more incredible with the root. How simple is the root process? Did you have any troubles, or instant root? I read some people had to repeat steps a few times to get it.
I don't know if this is relevant to the topic but, how long do you think before we get custom roms? As great as Sense is, I like the 'standard' android look better at times :/
EDIT: Can I volunteer to be a Guinea pig?
+1 I would like to be a guinea pig too
Great, but how.
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
It's irrelevant to be a guinea pig as of now considering there is no custom recovery, let alone roms, I've owned multiple Android phones and this is the first one i will attempt to make a rom with(i did themes back in the day for the MyTouch). I will research starting tomorrow on what to do etc (already have fedora set up on my laptop).
That is true, but hopefully they add the S-OFF function for the Inc2 to their lineup soon, so Devs can start a root, roms and etc.
Awesome news after sitting in an hours worth of LA rush hour traffic

We have a custom recovery that is being tested, and check the the dev section. Our first flash-able kernel is now available.
Just an off topic question, after rooting, I have heard that there are apps that basically give you tethering without paying the $20 (or how ever much it is) to do it "officially", can someone tell me if that's true or not? Thanks.
is it public for S-OFF software for download??

It will be a tool for the rim developers to sign their boot images, so the G3 would flash it.
It will be released when it's released.
dude stop asking for eta, leave our devs alone and they will deliver for sure! just be patient or you'll end up like others who sold their g3 just because they couldnt wait for bootloader unlock, then bump came.. same thing for the website, we all need to calm our horses and wait for the devs to perfect their work.
Please post questions in the Q&A section.

Why is everyone so impatient? Most people complaining will never actually use this service themselves anyway, their demands are purely selfish because they want more development to happen.
Just wait, of course they will release it, they would not have bothered wasting everyone's, including their own releasing the TWRP image if they were not going to follow through.
What they are doing is not a quick job, they are building a website where images can be uploaded, patched on their servers then downloaded again, they are also releasing an API so that it can be done via scripts rather than on a website - this takes time, and there is no point releasing anything until its all ready.
We should see android 5.0 before the end of this year (according to LG UK, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium) so start focusing on that for now and leave Team Codefire to do their thing.

What this man said. Be patient.
We should wait until Lollipop is released, as they say, till december. Otherwise LG can maybe STOP bump from 5.0,I don't know. There's no need for this hurry, i really don't see the point.
Can't believe you even put a [serious] tag on there. Bump website is going to come when it's going to come. That's your serious answer.

Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for Bump! - Sign (unlock) your own boot images for LG phones!. So whats the next step to getting either AOSP or CM? Waiting? Sorry for the noob question in advance
I haven't seen this question answered with anything other than conjecture. Sorry if it was and I missed it.
I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S3, and I'm eligible for an upgrade with Sprint on December 1st. I'll be getting the G3. What will my situation be if my device has 5.0 on it already? It sounds like the ideal spot is to already be rooted, taking no OTAs, and waiting for flashible roms. With Bump being released today, will there be a new bootloader for the G3 with Lollipop, preventing people like me rooting and livin the dream?
I get the picture the boat is setting sail, and I'll be watching it float away if Sprint releases Lollipop before I get mine. I have no idea if they realistically will. Just thinking...
Thanks!

Just bumping, because it looks like this has slipped under the radar, and someone must have an informed response. It may be for nothing, because there might be a good chance I'll get my G3 from Sprint before they load it with 5.0. If they do, and I'm unable to unlock the bootloader for an indefinite amount of time, that might be enough for me to consider other devices.
Does anyone have an answer?

Development Doubt

Hello all,
I apologize if this is obvious or has been asked previously in any other way, but I need to know the proper reason behind it.
I wish to know what exactly is the reason behind zero development for this beast? I mean as far as I know Asus has released kernel source code and the bootloader is unlockable?
Is there something else preventing the development or are there simply no developers for the device yet?
Thank you!
There are 2 devs in this sub forum: Jpg3927 & scanno. I don't believe Jpg is in possession of the phone yet, and the latter has begun work on omni and twrp. Scanno said that he could not get system to boot, so no ROMs for now. He is also very busy, so progress will take time.

[REQ][H932] H932 ROM Development Bounty Thread [Release Available]

As grateful as I am for the H932 to now have root, it's only half the battle for me. V30 development in the ROMs department already seems to be a bit slim in what's available, and I fear it might be too little too late for the H932 for development to really take off.
Having said that, I wanted to call on any capable and willing dev to give us some love on the H932, and I'm more than willing to donate to the cause for the first dev that is willing to grace us with something like this:
First off, confirm whether or not we can indeed use AOSP ROMs or if we're stuck with stock based.
Stable (stock Oreo from Tmo sucks in this department, too many bugs left unfixed).
Debloated.
Wide range of customization options, if possible.
That's all I ask! Anyone else feel free to expand on that.
Who's with me?
I'll start us off:

Wow, you guys really are inpatient
My H932 doesn't even get here till tomorrow. As soon as I have a phone in my hands, then I will start with:
1 - fixing the kernel so the H932 can boot any AOSP ROM
2 - Working on getting Treble support working, so that we can run GSI ROMs
3 - Getting a build of TWRP out there that support encryption

There's no dev without root, so folks, whatever bounty you are willing to pay should largely go to @runningnak3d first. Here is the link for your convenience: donate to runningnak3d. Do it, then if you have any left and willing, you could pledge bounty for developers.
That said, for development I have H932s I can loan for 1-2 months. PM me. I personally prefer stock LG and have less need for AOSP/Treble, but the loaner is available regardless.
Aaaaaaand we have a WORKING BUILD! Still very early, but making very good progress.

So much for donating.. I thought the point of any of this was making money.. even easy side money.. I guess I can wait..
The purpose of this isn't to make money. Its to get support for the H932. Which i have done. As of right now there are only minor issues such as audio issues. Those don't need multiple testers.

I rarely if ever see a developer do this because it pays (99% of the time it doesn't). The point of a Bounty thread such as this, is to act as an incentive for developers to hopefully begin supporting the H932, however they are under no obligation to do so, and if someone steps up to do it, such as me2151, I promise you the $60 he might get in donations does not begin to reflect the true value of his work, not just in time spent but his work also provides a base for other developers to make their own ROMs much easier in the future.
Just my 2 cents.
