[Q] Gallery App lag / bug? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I've posted something on android central forums, but I'm trying to figure out if I'm the only one having this issue. I recently bought a GN3, coming from a moto x (which I loved, just wanted bigger screen). I've disabled as many apps and samsung features as I can and got the phone setup as "stock" as I can get it. However, I'm seeing a HUGE amount of lag in the gallery app. I'm going to try to get another device to make a video, but it's REALLY bad. I have 2 photos on the device at the moment and it can take about 10 seconds to load one once it's tapped. Then zooming or trying to share the photo can take another 20 seconds. It's REALLY slow.
Also, it's curently using about 130mb of ram (using the built in samsung active apps) which is more than any other app currently running, but it's been as high as 500mb+ with the same 2 photos in my gallery. It almost seems like a bug / memory leak issue. I'm just wondering if I'm the ONLY one experiencing this or it's a global issue.
I've done all updates available so it's running 4.4.2 with the VOLTE update. I can't find any other posts specifically related to the gallery app.
Just thought I'd mention, I don't like the gallery app and have no need for it, except the samsung camera ONLY seems to work with that app, not google photos which is what I was using on my moto x.
Before anyone asks, I've tried pretty much everything you can think of related to clearing cache, data, rebooting, and I'm not syncing picasa web albums. I don't use facebook or any other services that would display through gallery.
Any thoughts?? This is a pretty annoying bug for an otherwise excellent phone.
***UPDATE 8-10-14***
This seems to be a bug with samsungs nearby services services and DLNA servers. I'm running Plex on my local network and every time I open gallery it looks like it's trying to contact / sync something with Plex. I'm not serving photo's so I'm not sure exactly what it's trying to do but it's quite annoying. It doesn't look like there's any fix on the phone itself unless you are rooted and you can disable the service. The only other option is turning off DLNA in plex or turning off UPNP on router. Just thought I'd share if anyone else was experiencing the same issue.

[Q] Safe to disable Google stock apps?

I don't use a lot of the apps that came preinstalled and am just curious of disabling them will "break" anything or have a negative impact on performance or battery for any reason. These are the apps I don't use/would like to disable:
Books
Email
Google+
Latitude
Messenger
Places
Videos
Talk
Just don't need em. All Verizon apps were disabled with no problems.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Why wouldn't it be? I keep Google Talk disabled because it was a huge source of battery drain for me in the past.
Just not sure about some of them like Google+, not sure how deep integration is. Also videos, not sure if that's tied to the market somehow
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I disabled messenger (not the Google+ thing, the built-in sms app) without any ill effects. I read on here somewhere that your gallery will FC if you disable Google+.
I don't just disable them, I use root explorer to delete them for good. Deleted Google+ with no ill effects, and a ton of other stuff I will never use.

You'll just have to test them one by one. From my experience, disabling google+ can cause the gallery to crash.

Books, Talk and Email are surely fine.
Latitude and Places may mess with Maps but they're probably fine.
Google+ (and therefore Messenger), along with Videos may mess with Gallery.
Just take a few hours and disable them 1 by 1 and see if anything happens.
I removed google+ with no adverse affects on the gallery.
Ended up just removing the whole lot. No problems thus far. Places is tied to maps though so unfortunately that will stay. Does anyone else's maps just start running randomly in your recent tasks. GPS and location are both disabled.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I disabled many: clock, calculator, doc viewer, earth, news & weather, and voice dialer ... as I use alternative apps. Never tried disabling critical ones (e.g., G+). Every thing seems OK.
I faced a problem upon updating system from 4.0.1 to 4.0.2. BUT I'm not sure of the error in updating if it came from disabling stock apps or something else.

Yeah, I've stopped caring about it. I burn more battery trying to track it down then just letting it run (at that, I don't think its actually using any measurable amount of battery). Its obviously doing something worth-while if it keeps poppin up.
You guys mind if I use some of the info in this thread for the GN apk doc I started on?

Everything on the list minus places and latitude have been disabled for a couple days now with no issues whatsoever. Books enables itself with each reboot but I stopped caring and just left it up. Doesn't ever seem to run and I'm thinking it might be tied to the market in some weird way.

[Q] Disabled Apps Reenabling Themselves After Reboot

Hi everybody - Searched all over, haven't seen any info on this issue. I apologize if I missed something
Recently, some apps I disabled on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus have begun to automatically reenable themselves after every reboot. The specific apps are Google Books, Google Earth, and Videos.
This did not used to happen. Further, my other disabled apps (the VZ apps, News and Weather, Movie Studio, etc.) stay disabled just like they are supposed to.
I'm not sure exactly when it started happening, so I can't pinpoint any changes or apps that might have caused the issue. If it matters, I'm not rooted.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated - the ability to disable unused apps was one of the reasons I got the phone. Thank you!
Update
Quick update. After I found my device would not complete a factory reset successfully, I contacted Verizon for a replacement. The replacement device factory resets successfully, unlike my first.
However, after setting up the new device I found that it too has the exact same problem with disabled apps. Google Books, Google Earth, and Videos (but no other disabled apps) all reenable themselves after every reboot. I noticed this before installing any apps or tweaking any settings. It seems there is a problem with these particular apps or in the way the are treated by ICS.
Either way, it's a shame that this major advertising point for the device does not function as advertised.
Interesting. I was wondering why I was seeing updates available for Earth and Video in the Market, seeing as how I had disabled them...
fyi I suspect it's a Verizon thing - I have both disabled and they're staying that way.
Thanks Clancy_s for the info. That's an interesting possibility.
It's also interesting to me that I haven't been able to find much chatter about this. I've posted the issue here, on the Google Mobile help forum, and on the Android Project Issues list (after searching each for previous mentions), and haven't heard much back.
I'm wondering how sporadic the issue might be, or if it might be connected to certain types of accounts since I've seen it on two phones now. I realize it's not a critical issue, but I've certainly seen a lot more concern on Android forums for less.
Just received my 3rd device (original plus 2 replacements, first 2 sent back due to other problems besides this one). The same problem with disabled apps reenabling themselves after a reboot persists. And this is after a factory reset, without adding any apps, changing any settings, without being backed up to my google account, without location services on. Same apps - Google Books, Google Earth, Videos. No other apps affected.
I'm having this problem as well. I disabled Google+, but it becomes enabled again after a reboot. VZ Backup Assistant and Google Talk stay disabled as they should.
Google earth did this for me also, so I just deleted the app. Of course you need root to do it.

Same problem with Maps
Title says it all. Really annoying.
Sigh... you're not alone. I disabled the Google search bar and after awhile the phone will automatically reenable anything that was disabled.

[Q] YouTube Preloading Video Issue

Hey folks,
I have a strange problem with the YouTube application where I cannot get preloading to work. Essentially, I am simply checking the "Preloading subscriptions" and "Preload watch later" under the "Preloading" menu in the Settings. I understand it will download my videos once I am connected to WiFi and charging. The interesting thing is that it initially works and starts downloading the videos, and I see the green and white arrows on the videos in my channel feed indicating that the videos has been downloaded or is in the process of doing so. However, the preloaded videos will end up clearing (whether I watch them or not) at random times. I have tried different iterations of things to determine what is going on and the one definitive thing I notice that is happening is that the YouTube application is randomly signing me out. Every time I notice that the videos are gone (memory on the SD card gains about 500MB), I go into the YouTube app and the "Signing In" screen appears, and then my Channel Feed shows. Usually, YouTube is always signed in (never see the Signing In screen) and this random signing out only occurs when I enable the Preloading features, oddly. I understand why the preloaded videos get cleared, as YouTube needs to have the account logged in to know your Subscriptions and Watch Later list. Once logged out, YouTube starts cleaning out the preloaded data. This is logical, but counterproductive to this feature and seems like a bug. Yet, in my searches I have not found anyone with this similar issue. Also, I have had my device and using YouTube for a year, but never used the preloading features until last week as I just stumbled on this helpful feature.
Sorry about the long-winded description. Basically, the bottom line is that when I enable the Preloading features, it causes the YouTube app to log my account out at random times, which makes the preloading features useless. Has anyone ever had this issue and is there a solution?
I have a T-mobile Galaxy SII with the Stock non-rooted ICS 4.0.4 ROM (baseband: T989UVLI4). I have tried clearing the data on the YouTube application, uninstalled and then re-installed the updates, but so far the same behavior persists. Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.

Did you recently update the Youtube app, because the app has had quite a bit of bugs lately. And you could try a substitute app: Tubemate that you can download on their website (google it). Tubemate lets you download youtube videos.

Ah, actually that is interesting. The latest update was on 2/22/13, which I have done, and looking in the reviews on the Play Store, I see folks are having some different issues that were not present before the upgrade. One recent post from a Galaxy S3 user posted about the application randomly signing out after this update. So, perhaps that is the issue where it is just an introduced bug in this latest version. I have just noticed this now since I was just trying out Preloading the first time a few days ago and this has been the only issue I have had. I do not know if Preloading worked before the upgrade as I never enabled it before.
Thanks for the insight. :good: I will just not worry about preloading for now and wait for another update which hopefully addresses the random signing out and possibly make the preloading work.
In fact, perusing more reviews in the Play Store for the YouTube app, seems to have a lot of complaints regarding the app not staying signed in. Clearly, this is the issue that is breaking the preloading functionality. Folks are also complaining about the YouTube widget not working as well, which is also related to the account not staying signed in.

[Q] Google Play Music Sync Issues

TL;DR - Picked up my G4 at T-Mobile yesterday and I'm having issues fully syncing my music and playlists to my Google Play Music app. Tried every fix I could think of to no avail.
---
Only a portion of the music I've uploaded and added through All Access are showing up on the app. It's most obvious when looking through my playlists - many have significantly fewer tracks in them and some are completely blank. I've also found incomplete albums in my library.
The music hasn't been lost completely though. Everything looks fine in the web app and on my other devices (Nexus 9 and Moto G 2014).
I've tried refreshing my library, clearing cache/data, uninstalling updates, rebooting, reinstalling updates, and a factory reset. I've also unchecked and rechecked GPM sync under Accounts in Settings. No luck!
Anyone else run into this kind of issue on the G4 or any new devices they've purchased? Any suggestions for a fix? I'll troubleshoot some more today and try to exchange in-store for a new phone tomorrow if I can't find a fix.
Thanks.
---
EDIT
(7/15/15)
Just got an email from Google Support saying the issue has been resolved.
They had me clear my app data and cache, then reboot and refresh the library. I had to wait a couple minutes for everything to re-sync, but it actually worked for me.
I cross-referenced a dozen playlists on my phone with the playlists on the web app. All matching. Spot-checked a few artists and there doesn't seem to be any incomplete/missing albums.
LG G4 Google Music issue
Im having the same issue. I thought it just my phone and playplaylists but after reading your post I checked the music in my library and music I uploaded and music I added with all access is not there. All my other devices show my complete collection. I think it's a G4 issue.

Exchanging for a new G4 did not help. :/
Have you had any luck getting your library and playlists to populate on your G4?
It doesn't seem to be only a G4 issue either. I have another thread going on at the Android Central forums and there are two other users with the same issue. One has a new G4, the other has a new GS6. We all have ongoing tickets being 'escalated' with Google Support.
I'm a newer user so I can't post outside links, but if you copy/paste some of the text in my OP you should be able to find the thread.

I have been having EXACTLY the same problem as the OP. It's been very frustrating.
Your WiFi solution has already made a bit of a difference. If it fixes it completely when I try it properly, I will track you down and kiss you passionately.

It's not your phone it's the Amateur Hour app that is Google Play Music.
While Chasing all things Social and bending over Backwards to be Facebook. Google Let this jewel of an app turn into a perfect example of why Not to Reinvent the wheel.
Ive Been having the exact same problems and many others ever since I subscribed, Dec. 2014. The app cant handle the additional strains on its limited resources and Android is already a memory sucking pig.
Ive had these issues on a Moto X 2013, Two Moto X 2014's, Two Drod Maxx's and a 2013 Nexus 7. So I know for a fact it;s not the device.
Getting any help from google is like trying to get milk from a Bull. They are so stuck in the "Everything at Google is Free and You are all our Beta Testers (Guinea Pigs) mindset. That they forget or Don't realize that people are actually paying for this service. Though, Not Many Apparently.
You can do factory resets, Data, Cache clears Uninstall and re-installs etc until the cows come home. None will Fix these issues. The problems are account related and google needs to manually reset each one.
For Music Not showing up here is a simple but painstaking fix
Log onto a PC and go to GPM Find Your music - (Google keeps trying to Hide this aspect of the Service) select an artist, Click the "All My Songs" Card = The first one, now Select / highlight every song and then click edit - Don't change anything, click save - That's it
Now go to your phone and you will see all the songs there, you might need to refresh though.
You think any of the Bike riding, Free Food eating Geniuses at google could or would tell you to do that - Don't hold your breath - All they will say is do a factory reset, deny there is or they have heard of a similar issue and finally, tell you it's been escalated. Which , like their Feedback service is another term for it's been sent to the Great Circualr Filing cabinet.
It's been 6 long months of Music constantly restarting after 20 seconds +/-, Voice commands to play a song or an album failing endlessly, Huge portions of my library gone missing on mobile devices. etc,, and Google refuses to help.
Google Play Music as it stands now is good for One thing - Shuffle Play of your library - Thats it. The Curated Lists fail More than they work, Using the shuffle widget Plays more music NOT in your library then music in it and none of it similar to what you have. The "Recommended for You" Crap is just a waste of resources.
I have 27K songs uploaded and another 26K "Added to my Library" from the Subscription and Nothing works!

Playlist will wok with the "Fix" but take multiple attempts. If they are Large (100+ songs) try doing it in groups of 25.
I had one playlist with 170+ songs and it took 5 attempts trying to highlight every song wouldnt work. The Edit info was greyed out.. A few songs needed to be removed and re-added - You couldn't edit their info
After I found the "Bad" Songs I was able to do a bulk edit on the list and it worked
PS I tried doing a bulk edit on all 54K songs in my library but it to failed miserably.
This may be because of googles insistence to use the arcane and antiquated Chrome / Flash for everything google. Me using an older PC with XP ( Which makes using GPM Painful) or because it has to be done artist by artist.
I reached out to google , Again yesterday by phone to tell them of the "Fix" and the Pri-madonna who I spoke to couldn't care less or be more contemptuous.

I think my Note is possessed

About 3-4 days ago my TW launcher started randomly crashing. I ended up going to the Google Now Launcher which crashes but less than TW. I'm sure there's an app not getting along with it but there is already an ongoing post about this issue.
I have a San Disk 64gb card in and photos are saved to there. Tonight I was getting ready to upload a picture from the gallery and when I opened it there no pictures to select from. I cleared the cache and reset the app, checked the settings to make sure scan device was enabled was checked and it is. I am able to open music and video from sdcard and apps no problem. I downloaded a 3rd party gallery app and it picks the sdcard photos no problem. Something is messed up with the gallery app. It still doesn't recognize pictures.
Anyone have this issue??

Its been going on with several of us. Most likely from the latest update of apps would be my guess. Im not an expert but this is when it began for me, also my wifes Note 4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-att/help/touch-wiz-t3273048
For me deleting Facebook and restoring it to the original version that came with the phone fixed this issue
Well my gallery issues are fixed and I went back to TW. I cleared several apps. I also went into gadget Disabler and enabled bloatware reset the phone and then went into gadget Disabler again. I got rid of Allshare, Shealth, Chromecast, ATT Bloatware, SGear, and a couple widgets, Music, SMilk, Flipboard viewer. Everything else I left because I think some of the things that were picked messed up my Gallery and right now I have no lag so I'm pretty satisfied for now
