Q. Anyone getting horrible wifi speeds on 2.4ghz - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I usually leave my phone on my wireless n/5ghz connection, and I get fantastic speeds.
I tried in on 2.4ghz today, and instead of getting my "normal" 60 down/13 up, I can't get anything faster than 5 down/3 up
I know its not my router, as its brand new, and I have it setup perfectly, and everyone else's devices in the house,(lg G2's, samsung tablet) gets GREAT speed on both 2.4ghz, and 5 ghz in the same exact spots.
I am only getting a 39 meg "Link Speed" on my phone on 2.4ghz, whereas the other phones in the house are getting a 96 meg "Link Speed" on 2.4ghz
I've tried all the advanced wifi settings on the phone, including going from auto to 2.4 only, and the speed is still horrible.
My previous phone, an LG Flex, also had great speeds on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz..
This is a completely stock t mobile m8, only 3 weeks old, so I am wondering if the phone is bad, or if these phones just have poor 2.4ghz wireless radios..
Anyone see the same problems with thier M8 and wifi speeds on 2.4ghz?

Same problem for me since 4.4.3 i must switch wifi off on to solve the issue and after a while problem returns.
Setting a static ip in settings helps a little.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app

yeah, I wonder if it happened when I got 4.43 a few days ago; I never bothered to check it until today..
thanks

I see some one else posted a similar wifi speed issue; there must be more folks who had this problem since the 4.4.3 update..

Samsung Galaxy S3 i747 Wi-Fi+Connection ISSUE!!!!

I used my Galaxy S3 a few weeks ago
It is the Rogers i747m Galaxy S3 LTE
The major issues I am having are:
Weak Wi-Fi: the Wi-Fi is weaker than my iPad 3... It disconnects and connects... Even in my living room, next door from my router, my signal is either 1 bar or 0 bar for Wi-Fi, and sometimes it disconnects... My iPad in the same living room gets around 2/3 or 3/3 bars
Weak Cellular Reception: the weak cell signal is also an issue... It is not as weak as dropping my calls, but it is weak and slows down my data speeds...I am using in the wide open in Scarborough in Toronto, there are no high rise buildings.. On 2G, I get full bars... On 3G, I get a bar less than full. On 3.5G (HSPA+), I get 2 bars to half bars. And on 4G LTE, I get 2 bars or even worse no bars and it switches back to 3G or 3.5G HSPA+...
Never had these Wi-Fi and cellular signal issues with my Samsung Captivate and Samsung Wave S8500.....
Anyone can tell my if my phone is defective?
Or is this the phone hardware issue and it widespread with the North American LTE variant of the Galaxy S3?
Thanks.
Good Question, one of which I like to know myself. I'm in the west end (Brampton (for now lol) ), it seems like the signal strength varies even in the same city with only a 3 min drive apart and no tall building in sight lol. I'm talking 1248 kbps to 31743 kbps download.
Not sure about the cellular signal but the WiFi connecting and disconnecting is a known issue(by us, not sure if Samsung) and is being worked on. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790187
Following the instructions in the OP fixes it for me but when I reboot the device, problem is back.
I haven't had any WiFi issues. I don't use it a lot. But I was testing it out tonight and it hasn't disconnected on me at all. I'll keep testing it out
and let you know if I lose WiFi connection. I do recall when I had the S2 i9100, I was losing WiFi connection quite a bit. I wonder if this is a random Samsung device issue? Or could it be an issue with the type of router you have?

If you have this issue, you'll notice right away as it'll connect and disconnect you every 5 seconds or so. I've only noticed it with one WAP and that's one at work, at home and elsewhere it works fine.
I am getting weak Wi-Fi signals around 0-2 bars.. And it disconnects sometimes at random but not as often as 5 seconds though...
Also, the question with the Wi-Fi issue being mass spread might be the International Tegra 3 version
The North American GS3 used the Qualcomm 89xx with has integrated Wi-Fi.. Possibly the North American model use a different antenna design...
I barely talk on my phone but the bars are about the same levels as my iphone 3gs before it was. My wifi I use it in 5ghz, and across my apartment, through 2 walls, im getting near wired speeds.
No issues with wifi here. I at least that I've noticed seems about the same compared to my iPhone and transformer tablet..
for me I am using it on wireless N on the 2.4 ghz band
I have yet to try on a 5 ghz band wireless N
My WiFi feels like it can go 1mb/second..
I do sometimes get roaming messages when I'm at home which confuses the heel out of me

I just accessed the *#0011# and turned the Wi-Fi Power Save to OFF and my S3 Power Save is also OFF
Wi-Fi signal is still VERY WEAK 1-2 bars and sometimes no bars... Did a Speedtest and got around 3Mbits/sec downlink and around 0.2Mbits/sec uplink...
On my laptop, I am getting 19Mbits/sec down and around 8Mbits/sec up.....
I checked the service menu's Wi-fi Information page on my S3 via dialing *#0011# -> MENU softkey -> WiFi
In the Wi-Fi Information, it shows my phone is connected to my router using 802.11b ONLY
What the heck??? ICS Software glitch???
You are getting 1MB/sec down ??!?
Damn how do you do it??
It seems like the North American GS3 with the Qualcomm LTE chip suffers the same Wi-Fi as the International version
Check thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724838&page=6
But you must have a good Wi-Fi unit.. I will go to the store and exchange my White S3 i737m tomorrow and see if the Wi-Fi problem still persists..
Before you exchange your phone, could it be your router? Did you test your phone out with a different router or in someone else's house? I have no issues with mine. Like I said in my previous post, I had issues with WiFi on my S2. So I'm thinking it's a random Samsung issue with certain routers.
I have 3 different routers at home
1. Standard D-Link Dual-band N router which I bought last year
2. D-Link Xtreme N
3. Linksys Wireless N
| have tried on my Xtreme N and my Linksys on both 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz and the phone just has really low Wi-Fi signal either 0-2 bars of signal and it disconnects and reconnects at random...
The only way for me to get a good signal it basically using my phone 10cm from the router...
I tried the phone at a friend's house, in which case he has a Belkin Wireless N router. Also I tried it on University of Toronto St. George campus' WiFi... Both scenarios results in the same, low WiFi connection signal it seems to fluctuate randomly, Low down/uplink speeds and disconnection and reconnects at random...)
From the phone's service menu for WiFi, it show the phone is only connected to 802.11b (It will NEVER connect to g or n no matter what router I tried to connect to)
Non of these WiFi issues happen to my Samsung Captivate... When I use my Captivate, even when I am in the basement (my router is in the 2nd floor), my Captivate is getting around 50-75% WiFi signal strength on 802.11n
It seems like I did not have time today to exchange my phone due to some University essay due... Will probably exchange it on the weekend.
Will definitely report back on my exchanged model on XDA...

Its just damn good lol
Coming from Rogers Galaxy S II LTE, the LTE connection is weaker on the GSIII. Even when comparing it to the iPad3 at the same location at the same time, iPad connects fine on LTE and the GSIII at times is on 4G.
I did my exchange yesterday..
My WiFi disconnection seemed to have stopped. But the weak signal issue is still present..
I could not pick up public WiFi spots in my University... This is a ludicrous issue... Even in my house, I could barely pick up my own WiFi (if I am literally in the same room or a room next to the router).. My GS3 cannot even pickup any of my neighbors' WiFi. On my iPhone, Docomo Sharp SH-06D and my Samsung Captivate, I could pick up WiFi from neighbors across the street......
Well at least my new unit do not randomly disconnect and reconnect the WiFi now... But the weak signal link is still a MAJOR issue...
Hopefully Samsung will acknowledge the WiFi issue soon....
I have the exact same wifi issues as you. I've called Samsung and their support tech concurred with me that my phone is defective. I verified it with AT&T also when I took the phone to an AT&T corporate store and sat down with a salesperson there with an SGS 3. Connecting to the in store wifi the salesperson had full bars. I had barely one, and it kept reconnecting. I have to wait another couple of weeks before I can do a warranty exchange with At&t because I didn't buy my phone from a corporate store, I got it off of craigs list, and AT&T warranty services won't step in and help until the phone has been on sale for 31 days. So I'm having to wait until then. Meanwhile My data plan started on the 16th of July and I got a warning that I've used 65% of my 4g data up already. I'm sure I'm going to go over and they issued me a 10 dollar credit to take care of that.
It's inconvenient yeah, but at least I'll be taken care of.
AT&T actually gave you credits for data even your phone was from Craigslist?!!
If it was Rogers, they wouldn't even cared.. lmao...
Samsung should make the WiFi issue public... This is NOT AN ISOLATED ISSUE.... It is much more widespread, not just on the ATT/Rogers/Bell/Telus Galaxy S3 i747(m) variants...
The WiFi problem persists on the International i9300 version as well....

Slow wifi/download speeds?

Testing with Speedtest, I'm getting around 18-19000 kbps on my S3. On my N7, I'm getting around 4800 kbps. That's a huge difference. Is anyone else experiencing this?
I'm getting 5700. I'm on the slim ROM. Likely that won't fix your problems. I wouldn't be able to tell you if it is router based, distance or hardware.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
I think I fixed it for now. I hit "forget" on the network I was connected to and reconnected. Speeds seem to be normal now and hopefully it stays that way.
Spoke too soon. The wifi connection seems to degrade after awhile. I tested it again and it was back to around 5000 kbps. Disconnected and reconnected to the same network and it's back up to normal speeds of around 18000 kbps.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Using speedtest.net via their Android app, I get the same speed that I see on their app/website from other devices on the same network tested just before or after the Nexus 7. This is true for me when connected to 25Mbps fiber hard line and an EDGE mobile network shared via mobile hotspot.
Strange. Maybe the wifi radio in my unit is a dud. It's fine right after I connect to a network but it seems to slow down by around 75% after awhile.

[Q] Nexus 7 (2013) wifi speeds / which router do you have

Hi everyone,
I have my Nexus 7 connected to a Linksys WRT160N router with tomatoRAF firmware installed. This router+firmware+configuration setup was the best I could do without constant dropping of connection or not connecting at all, but still at very slow speed of 0,5 - 1,5 MB/s (average is more around 0,6) when copying files on local network (SMB) with ES File Explorer. Which is good enough for web surfing and emails, but not enough for IPTV and youtube (youtube works, but i have to wait for it a lot).
So far i have tried numerous configurations of my router, nothing works. I tried other routers, 9 to be exact, but i have never seen more than 2MB/s.
Now i'm thinking about buying new router, and I want to know what wifi speeds do you get with which router.
thanks
Hi,
what's your net speed? mine is 26 mbit/s and this is what i get. however, IF you stream sound with BT/have any BT service up and running and your wifi runs at 2.4ghz it is highly probable the two (bt and wifi) interfere. This was the problem i had and which i found out after buying soundbar which links with its subwoofer via BT(BT butchered my wifi, i was scoring 1mbit to up to 26). I have switched to dual band modem/router (tp link td-w8980). now, i have two WiFi networks at my place, one which runs at 2.4ghz and the second at 5ghz. the 5ghz is used only by my nexus :]
N7 2013, Buffalo N300 router, Verizon FiOS 75/25. The router is dual channel, but not dual band: 2.4GHz only.

I had throughput issues with a Linksys WRT54GL and Tomato, was not a configuration problem. Loved the way Tomato worked, how it looked, it's options... but in the end, all I really cared about was throughput. Are you able to replicate the throughput issue on stock router firmware? You said you tried other routers. All the same model (RMA)?
Tell me more about your connectivity issues.
If you've used different routers from different manufacturers (with their respective stock firmware), then it's probably a problem with your tablet.

I had this throughput issue from the day I received my nexus 7 (2013), with stock firmware on router. But with stock firmware, the connection would drop randomly (from 5 minutes to 12 hours) and to reconnect i had to restart the router and nexus - this was corrected only with this firmware TomatoRAF (i tried dd-wrt and 2 more tomato firmwares - all kept disconnecting). I never had this throughput issue with any laptop, only this nexus.
The other routers i tried were all different routers, but all at least 3 years old.
Another information: friends nexus 7 (2013) WIFI, flo, also had same speeds on my router.
today i will try to test a few phones and a laptop on my router and will post results as soon as i can
32gb lte model, I use an Asus ac66u and Comcast 105\25 Mbps. 5ghz WiFi gets me 90 Mbps down and 22-30 up, 55 Mbps down and 22-30 up on 2.4 GHz.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
This is what i get (copying files from server with es file explorer):
nexus 7 2013 (kitkat) - 760kB/s
1st xperia ray (kitkat) - 750kB/s
2nd xperia ray (jellybean) - 530kB/s
xperia mini pro (jellybean) - 560kB/s
galaxy s4 mini - 1070kB/s
laptop - 6500kB/s
I used to get 10MB/s+ on my laptop with original linksys firmware, but now i configured router to be more "reliable" and i would be more than happy if nexus had 6,5MB/s connection.
I attached some info about router configuration. If there is an "expert" reading this willing to help, i can post more complete configuration.

Considering how inexpensive it was I"m extremely happy with the TP-Link WR1043ND that I use. With aftermarket antennas I bought as an experiment and the current firmware installed signal strength through walls and general performance is great. I thought about installing third-party firmware on it when I first got it a couple years ago but see no need. For the package I have from Comcast they advertise I think 25 Mbps down and 5Mbps up and I usually see 28/6. If you haven't already done so make sure your router is using the best channel for your location. Also, I see a lot of people move off of channels 1, 6 and 11 which can make them see/cause more bleedover from/to adjacent channels. You can see that in my screenshot with networks MercedesBenz and Sandvik. I live in a house but the effect in an apartment or condo would be worse. I also use a repeater because my router is at the opposite end of the house from my backyard patio and this house has insulated steel siding. Wifi Analyzer is a free app and works great to figure out what channel would work best for you.
Also in the N7's wifi advanced settings I use "2.4 GHz only" which seems to make it reconnect faster when waking up the device because I also use "only when plugged in" during sleep.

I haven't had any problems. All my large lan transfers are done over Ethernet cat 6. If it can pull down 90mbps from wan to wlan on two phones and a tablet, well then there's your sign lol. All these speeds are on n WiFi, I haven't even tried ac because all my machines that need all available bandwidth are hardwired. The router hasn't even required rebooting unless one counts firmware updates and such. Hardline lan to lan is right about 100 MB/s.there's an even faster model out called the ac68u but it's significantly more expensive.

I have the 32GB LTE version... Using an Asus RT-N66U as my access point...
On 2.4 ghz I get 22.5 mbps down and 7.5 mbps up*
On 5 gzh I get 68.4 mbps down and 11.5 mbps up... which is the max speeds I see from my ISP.
*note: there are about 18 strong 2.4 ghz networks visible at my location (surrounded by apartment buildings). 2.4 ghz performance consistently suffers with this level of interference across all of my connected devices.
As far as the RT-N66U goes... I'm very happy with it's performance and range of signal. I was a long time WRT54G user with tomato. This matches almost perfectly.

WiFi issues on 5 Ghz Network

Hello everyone,
I wonder if anyone has experienced the following problems and if they have resolved them. My Lg G4 is having some serious problems with my 5ghz WiFi network at home. The 2.5 ghz works reasonably well but the speed of my 5 Ghz is more than twice the 2.5. So here is what happens, I am in the room of the router, excellent connection and all of a sudden during browsing facebook/random internet search about c++ programming/linux command the the internet cuts out. There is no internet on my phone what so ever, going to any page yields the same result. I pulled out my laptop and tested the connection on the 5 ghz and 90 megs per second.
If I turn the wifi off and turn it back on the phone reconnects and regains internetability (or the traffic starts going again).
I have tried resetting my phone, getting a replacement, changing router settings - I did everything from removing the key, leaving it unprotected to changing channels to doing firmware updates to no avail.
Has anyone had this issue and solved it?
Wireless on this device is seriously broken in every aspect. I've been battling the 5ghz issue for months now. They (VZW) know its an issue, LG knows it an issue. They credited me for two months but now say they wont do any more and I have to buy a new device out of my pocket. Even went as far as to tell me the G4 doesn't support 5ghz band and that they were sorry that I don't understand how WiFi works. They also refuse to warranty because its a software bug and any additional G4's will have the same issue. So its an issue, but its not an issue...according to them....Totally over it, and their lack of support.
Sorry, I don't have a solution for you, but I can confirm the G4 has 5ghz issues. The LG G2 also does, but much worse.
I have my G4 connected to 5ghz only (802.11ac) at home, and I experience this issue about once a week. (I'm sure it would be more if I used my phone at home more). The traffic all of the sudden just stops. Toggling wifi on/off or just waiting a long time solves it. My two other devices on 5ghz have zero issues. I can live with it because, so far, it has never interrupted important stuff like wifi calls.
Same result here on the 9th device stupid VZW has sent me and the 5ghz still dont work. I still cannot understand how it is that these people sell a broken device and can get away from the lemon laws. It is like a bank all we do is we take in the money and the broken product we sold to you is something you have to deal with.

Weird wifi issue with solution on 5ghz arris chips

So my phone seems to act really wonky on 5ghz band and ATT and comcast both have arris chipset based routers, the throughput speed is fine but the ping goes up and it has a intermittent packet throughput or something when i play games it goes from orange to green to orange to green with totally inconsistent ping times, i could only find one thread where i read these phones do not like arris chipsets which kinda sucks because thats all these broadband providers give out. on comcast modems you cant even use the 5ghz band its so bad, on att it works half of the time but the solution i found is to login to the 2.4ghz band, then logout then switch back to the 5ghz band and it seems to work, i know its working properly because my ping times are consistently 25ms when its having a problem its always 45+ms which isnt that huge of a difference but its so strange because clearing the cache does not solve this problem, im on the latest nof27b updated running pure nexus now, so i really wish they could fix this problem, if my router is unplugged and plugged back in it has this problem as well, i hate that i have to do a buncha restarting and logging in, at first i thought my pixel was broken, and i spent upward of 6 hours flashing and reflashing back to stock and rooting etc. anyone else with a similiar problem
Get some of the network tools on your phone and do some testing/data collection. If it truly is bad connecting to the 5Ghz network your only solution might be to buy your own wifi router and connect it to the cable modem and use your own WiFi setup (make sure you set it to use different channels than the ISP one if you can't turn off the ISP WiFi). We have Netgear X8 here at home and I only connect to 5 Ghz with zero issues.

I have a suggestion to your problems, i think this has something to do with this problem that you mentioned, it has a intermittent packet throughput or something when i play games it goes from orange to green to orange to green with totally inconsistent ping times, see this is where the problem is, as you said before, login to the 2.4ghz band, then logout then switch back to the 5ghz band and it seems to work, but wait i have a suggestion login to the 2.4ghz band, then logout then switch back to the 5ghz band and it seems to work, and so do i, and i spent upward of 6 hours flashing on comcast modems you cant even use the 5ghz band its so bad, i hate that i have to do a buncha restarting and logging in with totally inconsistent ping times, wonky on 5ghz band and ATT and comcast both have arris chipset based routers, anyone else with a similiar problem, ne thread where i read these phones do not like arris chipsets which kinda sucks because thats all these broadband providers give out. on comcast modems you cant even use the 5ghz band its so bad, on att it works half of the time but the solution i found is to login to the 2.4ghz band, then logout then switch back to the 5ghz band and it seems to work, i know its working properly because my ping times are consistently 25ms when its having a problem its always 45+ms , the ping goes up and it has a intermittent packet throughput or something when i play games it goes from orange to green to orange to green with totally inconsistent ping times, i could only find one thread where i read these phones do not like arris chipsets which kinda sucks because thats all these broadband providers give out. on comcast modems you cant even use the 5ghz band its so bad, on att it works half of the time but the solution i found is to login to the 2.4ghz band, then logout then switch back to the 5ghz band and it seems to work, i know its working properly because my ping times are consistently 25ms.
Does this help?
Here
Example...See all the ping times around the 25ms range then after all night it jumps to the 40s for some reason In the morning and network toggle doesn't seem to help now switching networks...
this is getting annoying cant seem to fix this and it seems to happen if the phone sits around idle for a while
You'll probably need to get your own WiFi router to plug into the cable modem. That was the only solution of us when we were in an apartment 2 years ago where they supplied ATT Uverse. WiFi was practically unusable. Plugged my router in and we connected to that with zero issues. Phones and computers.

Keep your fingers crossed the cable modem connection is good. If there are any issues in their network you may find that plugging your own router in won't work. I'd buy one from someplace you know you can take it back for a refund if it doesn't solve your problems. At least in our situation it was their crappy wifi router that wasn't good and the network itself was okay.

network is fine, pretty sure its this crappy router as it has zero customisations whats weird though is it only disagrees with the pixel xl sometimes i dont understand it, ive had to reset it before and then it works fine.
This problem is getting annoying, it pops up no matter what factory image i flash, and if i shut off my wifi and then immediately turn it back on it happens, is anyone else having problems like this on their wifi i hate to feel like something is hardware broken on my pixel i dont wanna return it to verizon and get a bootloader locked one, this is on a completely stock reflash nmf207b Using an ATT gateway 5268AC, throughput speeds are fine but this ping consistency is annoying. What controls the wifi in these, which driver or radio or image. 5ghz AC band on a dual band
