Otterbox Commuter case review vs. Innocase Active

im just doing a quick review on the otterbox for the evo and comparing it to the innocase active which I had before the otterbox.

also keep in mind I cant take any real good pictures with the case on the evo because the evo is my only camera
as far as the build quality goes its amazing, VERY slim, very stylish. When I first got my innocase active case I thought that was top notch but the otterbox commuter one ups it in quality.
The main downside i've experianced with the innocase active is over time (and ive had since day 1) is that the rubber/silicone starts to feel real cheap almost like it loses its grippyness. It starts to get more oily almost. While the plastic on it is decent, around the edges the silicone starts to losen and while sliding it on a table over time, the plastic on the case is wearing.
With the otterbox how the plastic goes all around the edges on the side,its VERY firm and no moving of the silicone except on the top and the bottom which I like alot. Also it has a cover for the headset jack, and the charging port/hdmi. also almost forgot to add, pushing the volume and power button on the otterbox are ALOT easier to press and feel leaps and bounds better.
In the end I love it, alot slimmer in the hand compared to the innocase active.
I just like how it feels so much thinner than the active case but at same time, feels alot more durable/protective

There's no brushed metal on it in the pictures on the website either.

Just copped one today...the screen protector is a pain to apply. Got a few air bubbles, think I may take it off, wash it, then reapply it.

Wait a minute. Does the case completely block the headphone jack? That combined with that egregious charging port blocker are deal breakers.

can you do a drop test comparison with the two? I'd really like to know which one is tougher..

I just ran to the local sprint store and got 2 of these. I don't know if this is national but they had a promotion where you get 25% off when you buy 2 or more accessories.
Even with the discount, it's still a bit pricey at ~$29/each after tax. But it adds little bulk, and what feels like a lot of protection. I also like the fact Otterbox throws in a full-face screen protector - completing the protection package.

first off, no the headset is permanently blocked. its a rubber stopper over it. and I LOVE IT, very firm, looks and feels great.
and as far as dropping, not gonna go all out, but have dropped it a little bit and so far so good holds up amazingly well, just the firmness and build is great.
and well most sprint stores do 20% off for 2 or more, and if your a premier cust its 25% off.

usually air bubbles are caused by dust/debris under the film. what i do is use scotch tape to pull up the edge of the screen protector, find and remove the dust/debris and press it back down. it usually takes me about 20 minutes to apply a screen protector perfectly, but my house is pretty dusty!

It does have that greyish look to it on the website. Kinda deceiving

I'm getting tired of the rubber piece that covers up the HDMI / mini-USB slot... it keeps opening up on me in my pocket. It seems the side with the mini-USB opens first.

Zenus Masstige Block Folio Case

Great Case I just got last week. Not too bulky, lightweight and looks great. Talking with the flip closed feels natural and doesn't distort sound. It feels soft to the touch and it has a great build quality. You can tell they took their time making this. The stand is also great because you can adjust you angle easily! I recommend this case!

As I found out yesterday, it's also very sturdy and protects the phone well... I was taking the Note out of my jacket pocket and it slipped out of my hand and dropped to the rough cobblestone street. I was dreading the sound of broken glass, but all that happened was a slight scrape on one of the corners of the case/phone.
It hit the ground on one of the corners, and nothing happened to the glass, even though it bounced pretty hard.
Very impressed.

I been using this case for a few weeks now and i'm very happy with overal quality and design. I purchased it to use as stand while watching videos but it also came out very protective as well. I add some pictures taken by me to guide people who are interested in this case

I also purchased this case so I could have it once I get an At&t Note. I ordered brown and the build quality looks amazing! It will definitely protect the screen. Now I just need to get that white Note to put in there.

Those pics above are good but you forgot a critical part of the case...
Its also a stand! And will be very useful.

I think brown is best choice to go with white Note. Actually i took those pics with my Note itself so I couldn't figure out to take pictures of the case with Note loaded.

Cool! I am getting a White At&t Note and figured it would look real nice with the brown. That black you have is really clean though.
Does it work well and is it stable enough at multiple angles when you use it as a stand to watch videos/movies?

I also came across this case. Though the Tridea diary case looks better than this but it doesnt have the cutout for talking on the phone with flip closed and also no kick stand functionality. So this case seems to be the best bet.
Existing owners can you tell me for how much u bought this case. Currently its on ebay for $27.88. Should I buy it compared to the tridea case and which color?

I bought the case off ebay for around 28 dollars. Total it was 35 and got here in a week. The camera hole is sunk in so laying it on its back wont allow things to come in contact with camera, its deep enough. I say go with this case!

Hi. Does the elastic band secure the case in a closed position? Also is it durable enough?

yes, the rubber band will hold the case closed very well.
...But how long it will last?
I just recieved the case, today.
I most say, it doesn't look like it will last long or forever.
But still... I think it is a great product.
I'll like the case even with a broken rubber band....

Here's my two cents..
-I recieved this case roughly a week ago and alreaddy the elastic band keeping it together is showing the white elastic inside (got the black cover)
-The stiches where the elastic is stiched into the front cover is widening.
-Very, very bulky.. I thought it would be okay but this makes the phone almost twice as thick. When normally my note slides into my jeans, with this case it had to go into my jacket pocket. Just saying in case you like to carry your note in your jeans pockets.
+It covers every side of the phone
+The grippy area makes it easy to use it as a stand in alot of angles
-Cant give it a 20 degree angle like I could with the SPIGEN SGP Stehen case, so when you're on a desk and want a slight tilt to the note.. can't do it with the zenus case.
Overall: It can't beat Spigen, but then again.. its 15 bucks cheaper.

Hey guys, decided the Moto X is indeed the phone for me...so I ordered a case. I've been using a Diztronic case for a few years now on various phones and always liked them. They're sleak and they provide just a little extra lift to keep the screen off the pavement if you drop it face down. Pretty much all I could ask for.

how hard is it to look at the photos posted above?

I got the matte black, and this case is awesome: fits perfectly, adds very little bulk, feels great, and it's cheap! Only downsides are it covers the back of the device and the buttons, which actually doesn't bother me because I just have the plain black verizon model. It also covers the dimple which I know bothers some people. Lastly the lips around the screen make it a little difficult to get your thumbs to the edge of the screen, which makes it a little difficult to drag app icons to a different home screen. No big deal though.

Too bad it doesn't have an indent for the dimple or at least a cutout for it

I bought both the Hyperion and the ditztronic. The ditzrtonic seems slightly slimmer and has much better buttons than the hyperion. I like it better overall besides not having the dimple...So what i did was i took a hallow hole punch and made a dimple hole in the ditztronic.
I used something like this:

how does TPU react when being drilled? Did it wiggle about or just cuts through like paper? Really curious how TPU reacts to violent force.

I used a hallow hole punch. You don't drill with a hallow hole punch, you hit it with a happer. It took a lot of hard banging but it cut it pretty cleanly. You also have to hold the punch down pretty well so it doesn't move/bounce around. I practiced on the hyperian case becuase i didn't plan on using that case. For some reason the hyperian case was a lot easier to put a hole in.

How hard is it to tell if there is an indent in the back of the case when the picture is taken straight on?
While the punch is a cool idea, I would be interested in finding a case that actually has an indent for your finger AND protects the back of the phone.

Sorry, I guess I'm still not making my wishes clear
A case that does not have a physical cutout for the dimple, but a case that is dimpled itself that is contoured into the dimple on the X. Does this make a little more sense?

Can those with the clear case confirm if it gets dirty, especially along the corners? My wife as the griffin white reveal and the corners look terrible.

I have a clear one (it's frosted on the inside, so not _completely_ clear). Had it since October when I got the phone. With my white phone in the case, it looks pretty grey now, especially on the corners and edges. I don't really mind, since it keeps the phone white!

The buttons on the SUPCASE are pretty bad, unfortunately. I have one and love it otherwise but never use it because of that reason - mostly use my bumper case that has great button feedback.

Diztronic are then only cases I will buy. Love it on my Moto X.

Just moved from a Hyperion to a Diztronic because the headphone port on the Hyperion was too small. Both are good cases, but man the Diztronic seems slippery to me compared to the Hyperion - it's almost flown out of my hand a couple times over the past few days. Really nice case though.

Spigen Slim Armor - Champagne / Gold version! (Pictures with case on and close-ups)

Two thumbs up for this case thus far.
It is very easy to slide the phone into the case, and it requires just a little extra effort to remove it. The case is a tight fit all around. It feels sturdy and makes the phone easier to hold/grip with its more angular shape. The power button requires just a soft press, while the volume rocker requires twice the effort. The camera lens is protected and embedded ~1.5 mm within the casing.
Not sure if I am forgetting any thing else, but some pictures!

Comparing the thickness between the phone and the case (a little blurry, but you get the picture... no pun intended).

I too got the case today with my Nexus =). I really liked the color and felt it was unique and a nice change from the black and white that every manufacturer seems to be pushing these days. I will agree on the buttons but nothing major. Seems like the phone will be safe should the horrific day arrive when the phone is dropped.

the white speaker dot actually looks pretty cool with a case on

FYI I noted in the other thread this case is significantly easier to put on and take off if you leave the two pieces together while doing it.

Hey, no problem. I believe you're asking to see a bird's view of the bezel with the case.
Also took some close-ups of the four sides for anyone who is curious:
Headphone port.
Charger port and speakers.
Right-side with power button.
Left-side with volume rocker.

Ordered the Black, looks like a great case. I like Spigen products.

I agree. The champagne color stands out and has a classy feel to it. Although I have to admit, I also like the white back of the N5. With a case or not, it is a good looking phone!

Solid point! I didn't remove the two pieces at all, which goes to show how easy the installation and removal are.

Nice looking case!

What is the back made out of?
Does it collect dust or finger prints?
Does it slide in and out of your pockets easily?
How is the grip?

Wen i'm driving in a car i put de N5 in a car holder and with de case on i think it's to thick
for that holder.I just slide the phone in the holder.Not much space is there be left on the sides.

A gorgeous case. I don't know whether to get the white or the gold colour way, both are really appealing.

I'm curious on this point too. My champagne case should be delivered soon, but as I've just splashed out on (40% off) TomTom, I'd like to be able to mount the N5 on my dash. All my phones in the past have been naked, but since I've paid for this one myself I've got the Slim Armor for "protection". Maybe it's too early for the N5, but looking at other models are there ever solutions for mounting encased phones? Will the case stand up to occasional removal in order to mount on a car dash?
Come to that, has anyone yet seen a dash mount for the N5? Preferably vent-mounted; my last screen mount was broken by an over-eager MOT tester.

Case-Mate has a tough case available soon that seems to compatible with the dock. Only downside is they didn't cover the charging-flap. Wich make it look weird and a lot of the side unprotected.

I made a request if there will be other docking-acceptable models and another tough-model that covers the flaps.

That would be ok if the uncovered flap bit, matched the bottom half, the magnetic charging is definitely accessible.

The official Sony smart window view case will work with the dock when the front of the case is folded to the back. This is what I intend to buy.

Just received a batch of these (10 for $16) from a seller on aliexpress. They're from the same factory as the 'terrapin' cases made for the Z1C.
Very light plastic with rubber finish and holes in all the right places This was my fave case for the Z1C so glad they're making them for our new baby. Gonna keep a couple and the rest are going on fleabay :good:

From the pictures I've seen of the smart window covers, they have a cut out for the magnetic charging, you won't even need to fold it open to charge it in the dock.

I've managed to only find one video yet of the thing in action including, how you attach it. Sadly it's in Italian but you get the gist from the video.
It looks like the inside of the cover that attaches to the back of the phone is some sort of sticky? plastic that attaches to the glass back, rather than the usual plastic type tray that clips on, this does make it more form fitting, I don't know how secure or long lived it would be though. Take a look and see for yourself. (This is for the Z3 but the Z3c also has a version which will be the same, just smaller)

That's annoying. They've gone from one extreme to the other. I suspect a lot of people with the CM Tough for the Z1C, like myself, ended up cutting a gap for the magnetic charger.
TBH that's the only port I really need access to. I very rarely connect the device by USB and the SD and SIM both go in the phone when I get it and come out when I sell it.
Here's hoping for some well designed tough cases.

Yes, that makes more sense. I was going by the description given here - http://www.clove.co.uk/sony-xperia-z3-compact-scr26-style-up-cover
But now I've seen a description of the charger dock and it says the pins are compatible with our without a case, and the window case seems to be very thin material anyway.

When your beauty gets a scratch or breaks don't blame Sony then but yourself..

Hey.. was just kidding.. I will certainly have a cover for this phone considering that this is a phone I intend to use for at least the next 2-3 years. Been using my GS-II for the past three years with a cover and is still looking pretty good all because of the cover. But that said, seeing this beauty without the cover is a treat it in itself
Really waiting to see the official style cover from Sony for this phone similar to the one for Z3.

Received a hard shell case from eBay this morning, will protect sides but not much protection top and bottom, nice and thin. £1.95 on eBay delivered. I'll post some photos when I get the phone, maybe tomorrow.

I must admit, after seeing the video, and not having a glass phone before, I'll be looking for something that's probably Gel for bounce, non flip & definitely with a cut-out for docking port only. I've had a good look on Amazon/Ebay etc. but it's too early to tell as the phones not actually out yet. Hopefully the clove case will do for the interim until the pictures a bit clearer and thee's some user reviews on the various options. Definitely needs a case of some sort though that's beyond doubt.
