[Q] USB Modem for Nexus 7 (2013) - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi guys, I sold my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, which had HSDPA built in, but I remained with my 2 year internet contract from Vodafone.
I have a USB modem, but I can't get it to work. I tried the application: PPP widget, PPP widget 2, BlueVPN, but none of them seems to work.
Do you have any ideas, how could I make it work with my Nexus 7 (2013)? I have the latest stock KitKat and lates Glitch kernel.

ElementalX kernel try.

Can you define "does not seem to work" in more detail? PPP Widget 2 at least is known to work fine with the new Nexus 7.
I encourage you to report your problems at

[Q] Transparent Proxy on ICS

I've tried installing a proxy application on my rooted Galaxy Nexus, but I believe the system works differently because whereas I was able to access the internet at university on my HD2 and Gingerbread, I can't on my Nexus except through the browser and the built-in proxy settings. Does anyone have more info? Is there a working build of transparent proxy for ICS?

Use Autoproxy.....it works even on ICS....I myself is using this app...works like a charm.
Also you can try ProxyDroid, it's free. And it works fine on my Galaxy Nexus with AOKP 4.0.3 ROM.

[Q] best/latest wifi tether app

What is the best wifi tether app for the note 2? I am going on vacation and need a good app to tether my galaxy tab and the wifes ipad. Which one that is out there is the best?
Edit: I am on stock rooted mc2
I don't know if it's the best, but I've been using TrevE Mod's WiFi Tether for six months. I use it everything day at work for a good six to seven hours per eight hour shift. I connect my ASUS android tablet and ACER Windows Laptop.
It does require root and busybox. You may have to fiddle with settings

Got a link for that because all of the ones I've tried I can't get to work.

sure, here's two: Google Play (version 3.2 beta 2) and Google Project Page. The Google Project page has fourteen versions. I'm currently running 3.3 beta Per 2, which I downloaded from there. I had download another but appears it's the same as the Google Play's current version.
Try the default settings first. If not working, change to driver2. I would reboot after every and all changes.
I don't know if it'll make a different, currently running deoxidized stock MC2 with Perseus Kernal 3.0.36 (alpha 36)

Yeah I tried both of those and couldn't get it to work running NoWizAOSPmod. I couldn't get the native hotspot to work either like others. The one thing I didn't try was switching kernels. Im running Saber because I like using Voodoo but gonna give Perseus a go and see what happens. Thanks!
It looks like the 3.3 b2 It showed up in my laptops wifi aceess list. Ill run some test on it tonight and see if I can get everything happy.
Loosing tether would kind of kill me, I tether my laptop at home. But I dont destroy it ( typically under 5gb a month ) only had one monster month and the funny part is that was all phone Live streaming an evert, for the month I used 7gb

no problem. It's just a slow process to see what works with different roms and kernels.

what IP is it pulling form your GN2? I'm assuming it's starts with something like 169.xxx.xxx.xxx. If so, that's some BS IP that windows gets when it's trying to request IP and DNS information and not being pushed to it.
Try setting up the Tether with everything at defualt settings. This assumes you have BusyBox installed and setup. You'll want to disable the Connection Optimizer (what a hunk of crap that is since all it does it look for the best WiFi connect, ie one that is within range). If it doesn't connect, try change (one at time)--driver, netd, device profile, etc. After you get it working, then you try chainging SSID, adding encryption, chainging LAN IP, changing Access Control, and so forth. It may be worth while, rebooting after each change.
You may want to try other versions of WiFI. If you go to their project site, it has about 10 versions listed. The Nov. 2012 if the first version that worked on the GN2, so don't go earlier.
It's annoying, it's slow, and it's tedious. But with different roms and kernels, what works for me, may not work for you. So, it's the process.
Welcome to the work of smartphone tinkering.
Has anyone made any attempts under Carbon Rom and Plasma? I've tried modified and unmodified tether apps, under the settings suggested in the post above, and it fails consistently on 'Configuring AP'.
Plasma kernel does, as far as I can tell, include iptables. I'm not sure how to diagnose my problem further.
Edit to report: Generic ICS/JB(wlan1) with netd(master) and driver reload 2 succeeds at least in starting the AP, but (very) provisional testing suggests that it does not provide a working connection.
All on TrevE mod version 3 pre 2.

Where are the peak/off-peak settings for email?

Hi all
I got a new 32GB WiFi Nexus 7 (Android 4.3) a few days ago and have successfully rooted it. All is going well except for one thing - I’m using the stock email app for Exchange email and it works fine – I can set it to collect the mail at regular intervals or never (manually), but there isn’t an option anywhere (that I can find) to tell it what the peak and off-peak times and days are. In know these settings exist as my old Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 (which I no longer have) had them.
I’ve searched the forum and also used Google but can’t find where the settings are.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks

I believe it's a Samsung setting. I think HTC has similiar setting on their devices too.

How odd. I had assumed the email app was the stock Android one as they look pretty much identical on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 and the Nexus 7. And yes, my HTC Desire C has the settings.
Thanks - thought I was being stupid! :-\

I had the same problem, I use Tasker and Synker to trigger email polls. Pretty easy to set up.

Thanks I'll check them out but it's a shame that the stock email app didn't include the sync options

[Q] Need the Samsung email app (email version 4.4.2.0200) for Nexus 7 (2013)?

I just bought a Nexus 7 (2013) after using a Samsung Tab 2 7.0 for the last couple years. I also have a Galaxy S 4. I've now tried 4 other email apps but find that the stock Samsung email app works perfectly for everything I want to do. Does anyone know where I can find Samsung email version 4.4.2.0200 as a standalone app so I can install it on the Nexus? If anyone knows where I can find the APK it sure would be appreciated.
Most Samsung apps are TouchWiz dependant. Your better off looking on the playstore for a replacement. K9 mail, aqua mail...etc

Thanks for your quick response. I was afraid that was going to be the answer. I tried K-9 and I find it to be funky with the way it treats deleted mail on the server and in a few other areas. Haven't looked at Aqua but did try some other email apps. Never realized how useful some of the Samsung specific apps are. In the short time I've had the Nexus I love the speed, cellular capability and various other things (including the price) but miss a number of features from Samsung.

Try tot extract the APK (from your s4 or tab) with 'Lucky Patcher' and sideload it on your N7.

Have you tried CloudMagic? It's a damn nice email app. I use it to combine all my inboxes from different providers (Yahoo, hotmail and gmail). I used to be on Samsung and this one beats it hands down.
Why not just let Gmail manage the other email accounts

Using USB mobile dongle on WiFi only N7 with either android 6 or 7

Right now I'm using Pure Nexus with ElementalX kernel. I've been searching for how to do this and I found a bunch of old threads talking about PPP widget 3 which can be found on the Play Store. I downloaded this and haven't been able to get it to work. That being said, I found on the author's website that his app predates Marshmallow and that he doesn't think his app will work with Marshmallow. Are there any ROMs and/or kernels that will allow a USB dongle to work?
