Using USB mobile dongle on WiFi only N7 with either android 6 or 7 - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Right now I'm using Pure Nexus with ElementalX kernel. I've been searching for how to do this and I found a bunch of old threads talking about PPP widget 3 which can be found on the Play Store. I downloaded this and haven't been able to get it to work. That being said, I found on the author's website that his app predates Marshmallow and that he doesn't think his app will work with Marshmallow. Are there any ROMs and/or kernels that will allow a USB dongle to work?

Tether manager app

Hi all - I am currently using CyanogenMod based ROM's as I really dislike Sammy ROM. I currently tether a lot and wanted to find a tethering manager type app where I could see who was connected and perhaps if possible some more details.
Is there anything like this around? Can't find a decent app. Cheers

[Q] Bluetooth 4.0 support / FitBit

Hi All,
I recently bought a fitbit that syncs to my PC via a supplied Bluetooth 4.0 dongle.
It will also sync via BT with certain phones using the Android app - e.g. the S4.
I believe the reason it doesnt' work on my One X (which has hardware support for 4.0 as far as I know) is that Android doesn't natively support 4.0 protocol, and so it's up to individual vendors to add drivers and support to their ROMs.
I'm using the Viper 4.0.2 ROM presently.
Does anyone know if it's possible to add BT4.0 support? If not, does any enterprising dev fancy taking a look at it?
Cheers
Ric
UP. This interests me too
Did anyone ever get this working? I'm in the same boat.
No, I bought a nexus 5 and use the hacked apk. Worth trying on the one x though

Amazon 5.0 app from phone working on Nexus 7 2013

I tried to download the new Amazon app (that has Instant Video included) onto my N7 but it says it's not compatible with this device. Anyone have a trick that allows the phone app to work on the tablet?

You can back up the app from your phone with a back up app, move it to your cloud storage or a flash drive (you can also use a SD card with a card reader). If you're using the cloud, just log in on you N7 & DL it. If it's on a SD reader or flash drive, connect it to your N7, go to where you saved it & DL.
Can confirm, installed in my phone, download video addon apk, copied both to nexus installed fine and now prime video works great

Installed fine but not working with latest Android L for me either. While Netflix works fine, I have no volume when streaming my Xfinity TV Go app. Hopefully, they'll get these apps up-to-date for Lollipop. Amazon Prime just stopped working as per the message it displayed.

Thank you for this comment. As little as I use my n7 I will just wait for app compatibility. Love tv go and the ability to download shows!
Do you have x1 cloud dvr yet?

No X1 at all. Comcast offered me a bit of a deal ($10. less for 2 years than I currently pay), but I had to use their modem. Further, I'm not at all sure how well it would work in our "end of the line/last to get anything" rural community. I also have a Slingbox that requires non-hdmi connection.
I would like to know if the X1 app works on L.

Sorry OP for taking over.
You need the wireless gateway 2 dpc3939. It's dual band wireless. That way we can rationalize paying monthly fee for modem and just think 96 a year for a guaranteed new modem router, not bad.
The x1 is awesome. You should look into it. We have 1 x1 dvr with three access boxes, one regular dta, and have every movie channel they offer and pay $186/mo after a $75 monthly discount (was 90 for a year now 75 and in Feb it drops off at which point I'll be calling back to get a new promo)
Just keep calling and tell them you are going to cancel and eventually you'll get retentions.
Your sling will work just fine with the x1 too. Plus once the cloud dvr goes to your area you'll have tons more storage and the ability to transfer your shows to your mobile device at home and take them to go.
. Just wish the cloud feature had sling box capabilities.
No clue if app is supported on L or when it will be.

Thanks for your response. Retentions is the one who called me. I pay $180./mo now (+$16. taxes, etc): performance internet; all premium but TMC; 2 HD boxes). They offered $160/mo for triple play premium (we have no home phone service and don't care to) guaranteed for 24 mos with no more than $25/mo increase for another year. I guess the modem rental fee was included. I'd also read (Comcast forums) that one box works with SlingBox but the other does not and consumers do not get to choose. Some said I could re-instate my modem after installation. It was four years for ondemand to get to my area. I don't want to start something that may not even service me once I have to pay that increase. Were you suggesting I need the wireless gateway? I'm not familiar with that so I don't know what the advantage is. I use an ASUS dual band router with a custom firmware; all computers, tv's, tablets, phones, dvd players, and game consoles have access. In any case, I'd still be interested to know if the X1 app works with Android L.
Crashes Amazon each time using those files above. I am running the L preview.
Someone in the N5 thread said it was now working with latest L preview. It's not for me on N7. Anyone have success? Do we need to find an updated apk?
Edit: yes, I needed to update the main app from 5.0.0 to 5.1.0. Now it works with L. Thanks to jhax01 in N5 thread.

[Q] USB Modem for Nexus 7 (2013)

Hi guys, I sold my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, which had HSDPA built in, but I remained with my 2 year internet contract from Vodafone.
I have a USB modem, but I can't get it to work. I tried the application: PPP widget, PPP widget 2, BlueVPN, but none of them seems to work.
Do you have any ideas, how could I make it work with my Nexus 7 (2013)? I have the latest stock KitKat and lates Glitch kernel.
ElementalX kernel try.

Can you define "does not seem to work" in more detail? PPP Widget 2 at least is known to work fine with the new Nexus 7.
I encourage you to report your problems at

USB tethering for Android 8.1 stock?

Has anyone found or know how to enable USB tethering on current stock Oreo 8.1?
I would like to use it for VNC to a Rasperry PI running linux as Wifi VNC is not very smooth. I'm doing some coding on the Pi and using my tablet as the screen and keyboard.
Searching around looks like USB tethering may only available if using a phone as references i am seeing mention Pixel phones but not the Pixel C.
If it not possible, I can root again and install a Rom that has it available (recommended Rom?) however if available via stock would rather stay.
Thanks,
Craig
Did you ever solve this problem? If so, I'd be most grateful to find out how you did it.
