Verizon Note 4 Google Wallet? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know/expect that the Note 4 will have a working Google Wallet? The Verizon Galaxy S5 works with Google Wallet right out of the box, right? I don't want to have to use ISIS/Softpay. This is one of the big deciding factors for me.
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it will. Since I don't have the note 4 in my hands yet so no one can verify 100% for sure, but only 99% )

An Android device not being able to use Google Wallet would be like an IPhone not being able to us Apple Pay. I've had the Note 2-s S4-S5... never had issue with not being able to us Wallet, even with ISIS being installed.

Note 3 couldn't use tap and pay in GW. Most others could. The wallet minus tap and pay always worked.
I think it will work they even removed the note 3 from the devices that it wouldn't work on just a little while ago.

Hmm... I believe I was able to use I with my note 3, it was from T-Mobile and It was unlocked. I remember only one rom I tried out let me set up tap to pay. Though there are no places to actually use tap to pay, so I never tried it. Even if you can't use your phone to pay, I don't feel that's a huge deciding factor. People bought the iPhone 6 and tap to pay was supposed to be a feature but there isn't that feature yet, not on my wife's phone anyway.

Well.. my Galaxy S3 won't work with tap & pay (yes, I was really referring to tap & pay). I read somewhere it has to do with how the phone is built and how Google has changed the way tap & pay works or something, so old phones are screwed. I guess we're good! :good:

i believe it is a Verizon thing where they want you to use Softcard (formerly ISIS) so they disabled the ability to use the Tap feature

This is the current list granted note 4 no out long enough to be listed if not working but hopeful because note 3 was on it and removed not to long ago.

Bloat on Galaxy Nexus

Nexus used to be a great series...until it took an arrow to knee. All jokes aside, I cant believe they are letting verizon do that. I wasnt going to get one, but I have some friends who are and I wish you devs good luck on getting some clean roms the new nexus deserves.
Aren't there already roms without this? It's been reported that the Verizon version will still get updates directly through Google, which is the real concern.
Ill see those Verizon apps for like 5 minutes until I unlock the bootloader and flash a custom rom. I'm not losing any sleep over them.
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV
Verizon probably requires this bloatware in order to sell the phone through its retail channels.
Google doesn't seem interested in pursuing direct customer sales anymore so this is the price the Nexus line will have to pay.
Also, there is already an extensive thread on this with almost the same title.

I do, quick way to see minutes.
It's two basic apps, not the end of the world.
I, for one, never liked having Amazon baked into my Nexus S ROM.
It is what it is and isn't "bloatware."
At least it's not CityID ****ware.

They can't pursue direct customer sales simply because it is not profitable, especially since another manufacturer is manufacturing the device. Majority of smartphone purchases are bought with a contract, afterall and a large number of users will discover the phones through 'phone stores' that are partners to carriers or carrier specific to begin with.
Carriers 'own' this market. Apple learned that with iPhone as well.
Google does as much as possible, but they are still a company that needs a profit in order to keep doing what they are doing. They did release the software without bloatware as much as they could as well as added option to disable such apps (unless carriers demand these things taken out).
So this is all part of negiotiation with Verizon, since Google wanted a 4G phone on major network, but needed to release it on a large carrier to make use of it. It was likely a long negotiation where these apps and Verizon replacing Google logo were the compromise. Otherwise this would make less sense for Verizon, since they can have other 4G phones and ignore Galaxy Nexus entirely.
I would have thought that Google's first criteria in choosing a partner carrier would be Google Wallet acceptance/promotion, which doesn't seem to be the case with Verizon.
I think you'd only call this stuff bloat back in the day when you only had 256mb to install apps. Now we call it 'branding'?

Google wallet now supported on sprint?

So I flashed cleanrom 4.8 from 4.7 and it broke my google wallet app. Tried to get it working again the same way and had issues. I saw from google io 2013 notes that sprint galaxy note 2 is now supported by google wallet. If I am on at&t, does this make it easier to get it working now that the phone is approved, even though it is from another carrier?
I'd prefer to stay using cleanrom. I've been happy with it for the most part.

Nope, not supported on gsm networks yet. There are several post about this already. It really wasn't the rom that did it. Blame the playstore. It defaults to auto update. Once it did, you are screwed.

The Note 4's successor

So far, I'm relatively happy with my Note 4, with one big caveat- no root.
You've probably read the advance press on the Note 5. Sounds nice, but no SD and non-removable battery makes it a non option for me. To boot, I don't believe future Notes will be rooted, unless you buy a developer's edition.
Whilst shopping through coming phones... I find nothing I'm looking for in a top-end phone. Does anyone have a clue for me? What's next? Does the Note 4 even HAVE a successor?
Maybe someone can disillusion me about the future- and I'd appreciate getting rid of my illusions, seriously. Thanks for any help.
Steve
This fall LG is coming out with a phablet with a like s-pen of their own. It will have a removable battery and sd card slot. If the pen preforms like the s-pen then I'm all in.

I've been wondering the same thing. I don't even think I'll stick with Samsung after this, after years of loyalty. They are going downhill by making their phones like all the rest of them. :/

Outcaster pointed out an interesting possible alternative on the horizon, the LG G Pro 3.
If it's anything like the specs it's rumored to have (stylus, sd card, removable battery, 4 gig ram, etc.) LG may be getting the market share they're looking to glean this year.

It may be an awesome phone but I can't help but think Verizon will make them lock it down. Are other LG phones on Verizon unlocked?
Honestly not strongly considering messing with the Note 5 or any of the others. I'm on a Note 3 right now...maybe a Note 4 when a solid root method comes around?
I'll be tempted if it has a removable back/battery and card slot, but it's not a done deal unless it has more than 4gb ram. That's the only place my Note 3 makes me sad. It seems a waste to have made the leap the 64bit, and only have 4gb. How about 6-8? Any power consumption reasons this isn't likely? Or does it have to do with being strapped for space with an SOC?
The only other thing that might tip me over to a Note 5 would be a giant screen option. We're stuck without anything bigger than a Note on Verizon. My gf is vision impaired, and I was shocked to find out that none of the 6" phones were available with Verizon.
The bootloader is locked but they are all rootable.

Due to my wife's health problems I really need the s-pen. I need to take notes when I talk to health providers.
Note 3 still has not root on 4.4.4.
Which sucks cus I just bought one on that version.
Back to my Note 2 I go.
Root is only part of it. A custom recovery is what I care about most. Amazing how invaluable the nandroids of my note 2 have been over the last three years.
Why should a phone owner not be able to make a backup of their phone??
I need your help dear

Sorry I can't help. I dumped my Verizon Note 4 for a T-Mobile Note 4. One of the best moves I've made in a long time. Verizon can lock down their phones forever if they like- but I will NOT buy them. The service is much much better on Tmobile anyway.

I see you have a DE, so it's a moot point, but some people may be happy with disabling the bloatware instead of removing it and using Adguard. That's what I did with my roommates' retail Notes, and they're both quite pleased with the result. I'd hate my life without root and custom recovery, but to each their own.

Yeah custom recovery and root are a couple of the other reasons why I bought my DE. Viper4android is another. One of the best perks of my phone is the awesome battery life. I still don't know why mine is so good when so many retail phone owners are unhappy with it. Does the method of bloatware removal you mentioned help?

Idk what the successor is for me and I just got the Verizon version. The wife bought it for Christmas because I've been paying rent a center $100 a month for a few months for their T-MOBILE Note 4 and she was hoping to save me money. I'm reluctant to let go of the rent a center version because I've unlocked the boot loader, rooted and flashed a stock debloated deodexed Rom on it. Its does what I want it to and Verizons version wont let me. Very upsetting.
I have an at&t HTC one m8 also. I'm thinking of selling the two phones and trying to get a note 4 dev edition somewhere

any working root method for the note?

hello,
apologizes for making a thread for this if its already been answered however just wondering if there is any working root method for the n910v? i see quite a few seeing that it has to be the dev edition. so im curious, is there any working instructions for unlocking the bootloader? since it being locked is the reason for lack of root access...thanks in advance and also another quick question is, are there any good roms for the verizon s3? want to install something else on it. again thanks
Friend, just a brief scan will tell you that the answer to your question is no. There is no bootloader unlock for the Verizon Note 4 n910v. Allegedly devs are working on something, but given that it's been out for over a year and nothing has happened yet, I would wager that we will never see it happen in our lifetime. It took me a while, but I've learned to live without rooting my Note 4.
I'm still within the 14 days to return or exchange my Note 4, but I've made the decision to keep it, even though it might never get root, and I've rooted everything I've had. Once I made the decision to buy the unlock code for FoxFi, it made the decision easier, considering all I really needed root for was the tether feature. If for some reason FoxFi stops working again, I can always use my S4 for the same purpose. Do I wish I could get rid of the ads in some of my apps, sure, but they're apps that I can always find better versions of. Plus, if I really need more room for games and such, I can use my Tab 3 that is rooted.
I personally think that the Note 4 without root, with Nova launcher Prime is an awesome phone that I will keep till it dies! My phone kicks butt, better than any of my previous phones!

no root is very, very unpleasant. for example, i can't pull my authenticator credentials. worst, i can't secure the device. vz can pull anything on me, which means i am vulnerable to social and financial loss.
Personally, I USE ADW Launcher EX.
Root would be great for themed OS'S and getting rid bloatware.

yea i just got my note 4 about a week ago lol so i could return it. but i like the device itself. just annoyed that i cant delete some of the bloatware and **** that comes preinstalled lol oh well. guess ill keep an eye out for any one who might just find a way of rooting. thanks to all who commented. i figured by what i was reading that there is no current root =/ but oh well.

Any way to edit build.prop to get gear vr working again?

Basically what it says in the title. I just got the pixel XL and it's junk compared to the Note 7. I honestly don't see the difference between Google assistant and Google Now and that's the only thing that would make the pixel worth keeping. so I'm going to keep my note 7.
I read in a post that you can edit the build.prop so that the gear VR sees the phone as the S7 Edge. Is there any way to do that with this phone without rooting, or does anyone know another way around getting the gear VR to work with the note now?
Would like to that as well. Since my Gear VR arrived yesterday, I never had a chance to download oculus firmware on Note 7 (set up does not download anything after oculus ban on 10-11). I am fine using Card (for movies), but as the drivers are not installed, I cant use Gear VR touch pad or buttons. Royal pain to use touchscreen every time you want to do something.
I do believe you have to root there is no alternative
Pixel is a terrible phone.. the aesthetics a lone should keep you out
Has anyone done this? Does it work? I haven't had a need to root but i will if it works

I actually did this as an experiment right after they disabled the N7. It does work. I'm still able to use my gear vr. I did need root though.

Do you mind sharing how you did it?
How it works
I know you can change the phone model from that of note 7 to S7 edge and it will work. so instead of SMN-930V you could do SM-G935V
There is a link here of someone doing it in another language but can not get it to play for some reason.

I watched the video, looks like he changed ro.product.model to SM-G935F . He didn't actually edit the line on the video so I'm guessing help had already done it at that point, just showing what model to use.

Yes exactly. I originally tried to use 930 (regular s7). No joy. Things are not lined up correctly, but s7 edge works perfectly. Ironically though now Verizon is targeting me with ads for my "new galaxy s7 edge" lol I may have changed it in too many places. I just changed everything in the build.prop that said sm-n935 to sm-g935. It works though.
I just got my VR the other day and wanted to play with it a little (first time with anything VR), and unfortunately I have a replacement Note7 that has the PHE firmware. It's my understanding PHE doesn't have root, but PH1 does and that you cannot downgrade from PHE to PH1. I just wanted to play with it a bit before I finally return my note7.
