Any way to edit build.prop to get gear vr working again? - Verizon Note 7 Questions & Answers

Basically what it says in the title. I just got the pixel XL and it's junk compared to the Note 7. I honestly don't see the difference between Google assistant and Google Now and that's the only thing that would make the pixel worth keeping. so I'm going to keep my note 7.
I read in a post that you can edit the build.prop so that the gear VR sees the phone as the S7 Edge. Is there any way to do that with this phone without rooting, or does anyone know another way around getting the gear VR to work with the note now?

Would like to that as well. Since my Gear VR arrived yesterday, I never had a chance to download oculus firmware on Note 7 (set up does not download anything after oculus ban on 10-11). I am fine using Card (for movies), but as the drivers are not installed, I cant use Gear VR touch pad or buttons. Royal pain to use touchscreen every time you want to do something.

I do believe you have to root there is no alternative

Pixel is a terrible phone.. the aesthetics a lone should keep you out

Has anyone done this? Does it work? I haven't had a need to root but i will if it works

I actually did this as an experiment right after they disabled the N7. It does work. I'm still able to use my gear vr. I did need root though.

Do you mind sharing how you did it?

How it works
I know you can change the phone model from that of note 7 to S7 edge and it will work. so instead of SMN-930V you could do SM-G935V
There is a link here of someone doing it in another language but can not get it to play for some reason.

I watched the video, looks like he changed ro.product.model to SM-G935F . He didn't actually edit the line on the video so I'm guessing help had already done it at that point, just showing what model to use.

Sorry, I don't notice your reply. Yes I did as instructed below. Ironically I haven't had occasion to play much after that.

Yes exactly. I originally tried to use 930 (regular s7). No joy. Things are not lined up correctly, but s7 edge works perfectly. Ironically though now Verizon is targeting me with ads for my "new galaxy s7 edge" lol I may have changed it in too many places. I just changed everything in the build.prop that said sm-n935 to sm-g935. It works though.

I just got my VR the other day and wanted to play with it a little (first time with anything VR), and unfortunately I have a replacement Note7 that has the PHE firmware. It's my understanding PHE doesn't have root, but PH1 does and that you cannot downgrade from PHE to PH1. I just wanted to play with it a bit before I finally return my note7.

[Q] basic T-mobile GSIII

Thank You 1st.
Trying to find a user manual for T-mobile Galaxy S III. Not sure if I'm missing it on this site / or my eye-site is worse than I thought .
T-mobiles site shows that its not available yet . Just trying to understand the basics of the phone - 2nd smartphone since the GSII was replaced 7 times and never actually used it for anything other than basic calls -- so I finally got the SG III, so I'm a newnewbe, and I can screw up my pc just by turning it on. hit your 50's and learning curve is more like trying to fish in the desert ! Thanks again. PR

You should get the manual from the above link.
Also suggest you to download Samsung Galaxy SIII user digest from the play store. The app will explain all the inbuilt features of your phone.

Verizon Note 4 Google Wallet?

Does anyone know/expect that the Note 4 will have a working Google Wallet? The Verizon Galaxy S5 works with Google Wallet right out of the box, right? I don't want to have to use ISIS/Softpay. This is one of the big deciding factors for me.
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it will. Since I don't have the note 4 in my hands yet so no one can verify 100% for sure, but only 99% )
An Android device not being able to use Google Wallet would be like an IPhone not being able to us Apple Pay. I've had the Note 2-s S4-S5... never had issue with not being able to us Wallet, even with ISIS being installed.
Note 3 couldn't use tap and pay in GW. Most others could. The wallet minus tap and pay always worked.
I think it will work they even removed the note 3 from the devices that it wouldn't work on just a little while ago.

Hmm... I believe I was able to use I with my note 3, it was from T-Mobile and It was unlocked. I remember only one rom I tried out let me set up tap to pay. Though there are no places to actually use tap to pay, so I never tried it. Even if you can't use your phone to pay, I don't feel that's a huge deciding factor. People bought the iPhone 6 and tap to pay was supposed to be a feature but there isn't that feature yet, not on my wife's phone anyway.
Well.. my Galaxy S3 won't work with tap & pay (yes, I was really referring to tap & pay). I read somewhere it has to do with how the phone is built and how Google has changed the way tap & pay works or something, so old phones are screwed. I guess we're good! :good:
i believe it is a Verizon thing where they want you to use Softcard (formerly ISIS) so they disabled the ability to use the Tap feature

This is the current list granted note 4 no out long enough to be listed if not working but hopeful because note 3 was on it and removed not to long ago.

Randomly walked into an ATT store this morning and got a Note 4...

...So when are we getting a good root?

Probably never.
I bet by the end of this week. Root will be easy, bootloader will not be broken though. I just want my Titanium Backup and Root Explorer so root is all need.
I called a few att stores in my area and each of them said they have them in stock, but cannot sell them... How'd you pull this off?

I just walked in and asked? Ha. And would we not be able to flash custom ROMS? I need my CM11!
You'll never have CM11 on it. Never. But you can use exposed and do other mods. Just no ROMS.
Wow. I guess a lot of things have changed since my old S3.

They already have root

Shoot. I might consider returning it and getting a Nexus 6 then. I never even bothered doing my homework on this, I assumed it would always be possible

I was surprised when it happened because samsung phones were always so open. Nexus 6 looks good but it's just a big phone with no feature that I know of at least to take advantage if that screen. At least they finally went above 32gb now. But I don't think I'll ever buy an AT&T phone ever again.
I did the same. Walked into an AT&T near me during lunch and got a white Note 4. I wasn't expecting to be able to get one but they are selling them here in Milwaukee.
Much like some of you here, I don't need anything more than root to run titanium and a couple other things. I never understood the idea of getting a note device to throw an AOSP rom on it that negates the S Pen functionality and other Note qualities. Why not just get any other big phone?

Why do you say that? Root and bootloader are two completely different things.
Root should be easy and we should get it. Custom recovery on the other hand, probably not.
I'm in Pa and just called my local store, they have them in as well and the guy said I can come get one now. I'M on my way to pick up note 4 also. I'm with u guys just want root for titanium backup and xposed , I really don't flash roms to often anymore.

Correct me if I'm wrong but these custom ROMS don't support the S Pen. If that is true, what use is the ROMS if you can't use the S Pen. That is one major point of the whole note.

The S Pen was never a real selling point for me. HTCs have bad cameras, LGs have have horrible reliability from mine/my buddies experience with the G2 and the Note is still the spec king. I could definitely get behind a Nexus though.

Which store did you go to? I tried at the Greenfield store on 76th and Layton but they said they will start selling it on the 17th.
I don't mind touchwiz myself and if you haven't played with a note 4 in store you might be pretty happy with touchwiz this time around, its snappy and actually doesn't look nearly as bad as it used to. Can just install nova or google now launcher if it is that bothersome though from a UI perspective. Setting wise I think Samsung offers more a better features than aosp.

I got the Note 4 in Pasadena, they had 5 white and 2 black. They are technically not suppose to sell them until Friday, but all the corp stores got them. It took a bit of effort to get them to admit they had them, and I pulled the corporate partner card on them so they went ahead with it.
Now what sucks is I can't transfer any of my data with titanium backup, I am wondering when root will be available.
I also agree with others here, if you don't need or care for the S-Pen the Nexus 6 is probably the device you want...
So who will be first to release a root?
Hopefully we can get root for now... Maybe we should check out the G3 forum as they got root with the bootloader locked...

Got mine from a store in Austin today. Just walked in and they said they'd sell it.

App Pinning

From what I have read in the new Lollipop features, there is supposed to be an option for pinning apps so if you let someone else use your phone you can lock it to utilize just one app. It's supposed to be under Security > Advanced but I dont have the option on my phone. I have seen lots of screenshots for other phones that have it. Just the Verizon phone dont have it? Looks like a cool feature that I would certainly use.
Can someone verify they too dont have the option on their newly updated phone?
Wow - everyone else has this option but me? I will have to take my phone back tomorrow and exchange it.
None of us have it
I'm irritated that the Note 4 firmwares on all carriers didn't get it. The S6 has it, which is why I want someone with an S6 to run a logcat so we can see exactly what it is in the firmware that enables it, and what we are missing in the Note 4 so we can try to add it.
Why would they leave something like this out on these models but other Note 4s have it. Definitely frustrating.

None of the stock Note 4 phones got it with the update to lollipop.

any working root method for the note?

hello,
apologizes for making a thread for this if its already been answered however just wondering if there is any working root method for the n910v? i see quite a few seeing that it has to be the dev edition. so im curious, is there any working instructions for unlocking the bootloader? since it being locked is the reason for lack of root access...thanks in advance and also another quick question is, are there any good roms for the verizon s3? want to install something else on it. again thanks
Friend, just a brief scan will tell you that the answer to your question is no. There is no bootloader unlock for the Verizon Note 4 n910v. Allegedly devs are working on something, but given that it's been out for over a year and nothing has happened yet, I would wager that we will never see it happen in our lifetime. It took me a while, but I've learned to live without rooting my Note 4.
I'm still within the 14 days to return or exchange my Note 4, but I've made the decision to keep it, even though it might never get root, and I've rooted everything I've had. Once I made the decision to buy the unlock code for FoxFi, it made the decision easier, considering all I really needed root for was the tether feature. If for some reason FoxFi stops working again, I can always use my S4 for the same purpose. Do I wish I could get rid of the ads in some of my apps, sure, but they're apps that I can always find better versions of. Plus, if I really need more room for games and such, I can use my Tab 3 that is rooted.
I personally think that the Note 4 without root, with Nova launcher Prime is an awesome phone that I will keep till it dies! My phone kicks butt, better than any of my previous phones!

Are you running on 4.4.4?
no root is very, very unpleasant. for example, i can't pull my authenticator credentials. worst, i can't secure the device. vz can pull anything on me, which means i am vulnerable to social and financial loss.
Personally, I USE ADW Launcher EX.
Root would be great for themed OS'S and getting rid bloatware.
