Car charger no longer working - sufficient? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Have had the same car charger the last two phones I owned (Note II & Note 3). It would charge 2 phones and keep up with the screen on and GPS running.
However, it doesn't work at all with the Note 4... Plug in the Note 3, no problem.
Am I the only one experiencing this?
Do we need all new car chargers? I realize it has some new fast charging capabilities but I figured the old ones would still work.

My car charger still works but very_very_slowly. If I'm streaming Sirius and using GPS with the screen on it just holds the current percentage of battery life.

The Note 4 charger and battery are different from the from the previous models, and the current note for battery accepts higher voltage (9 volts and 1.5 amps) and the previous models were (5 volts and 2 amps) for the house chargers so i would assume that there is a car charger that has different charging capabilities..

Looks like a second charger I had works fine. Strange.

Weird you say that because same thing happened to me. However, now my charger doesn't work on my old phone could be a coincidence

problems charging the note 2 in the car - any ideas?

here is my setup in the car and i can't get the note to charge - well, it does say its charging but at best it will maintain my charge level it never actually charges
dedicated charger into my fuse box
note hooked up with mhl to my pioneer appradio 2
gps running, mhl running, bluetooth running. i use a screen off app to totally black out the screen.
now, this setup with my gs3 worked perfectly it would charge the gs3 like crazy as fast as a wall charger it seemed. with the note it will never increase in charge but at best maintain or slowly use charge. the power it is getting cannot keep up with all the tasks its doing.
now, i know this phone is a beast...but can anyone think of anything for me to try or buy to get this charging no matter what? i figure it may take custom kernals or something like that to finally get it done.
that being said - if you are using an android phone you absolutely must check out the pioneer appradio 2 with the appradio liberator app. you hook the phone up via mhl and with the app have full touchscreen control and mirroring of your phone on the 7inch touchscrreen radio display its pretty awesome.
I know the wall charger is a 2A rated charger....which is built for tablets. Perhaps attempt to locate a travel charger rated as such. I'm no scientist, or electritian so I cannot attest this will work, but just thought I would throw it out there

my chargers i the car claim to be 2a but doesn't seem to make a difference. hell, the one charger would chage an ipad in the past
most samsung tablets need an adapter to "trick" fast charging mode on non-samsumg chargers. otherwise it'll just trickle charge. i've not tried any yet but seems i may have to since the gnote2 is gonna need the same juice as my gn101. kinda what i expected since they're pretty much the same specs.
here's a thread to make your own adapter:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845844
page 9 has a few links buy your own. just put .com in place of .co.uk on the ebay links.
here one for $3. ships from china so it may take a few weeks.
the stock AC charger supplied with the note 2 is 2A. I also have a 2A car charger. I cannot get the note to charge at any rate higher than 1A. Yes, i do know the trick to get the phone to go into fast charge mode. I have a feeling that 1A is the most we are going to get. Yes, if you have a ton of stuff running all at once you are going to use more than 1A and end up with a dead battery after a while. It does suck. My previous phone (Epic) would not charge beyond .5A. It died while on my car charger ALL the time. Hopefully this one wont die quite as often.

Yes, the trick i use is to short the two data lines going to the phone NOT towards the charging source. If you do not do this the phone will be in USB mode which will only allow a charging rate of .38A. This seems to be an android/usb standard across almost all vendors. once i short the data lines that is when the phone will go into full charging mode. The highest i can get the phone to go is 1A and this is even with the supplied Samsung 2A charger. I have also tried an iPad charger and it still only produced 1A to the Note II.
The Note II also seems to vary the input current based on how much battery is left. If the Note is very low (i.e. 50%) it will go into 1A. If the battery is high (i.e.95%), the current will bounce around. I have seen it start at .5A, jump to .8A, then to 1A, then right back down to .5A and it will continue there until it reaches 100%.
Bottom line i have not seen anything above 1A
JD
at least one of the adapters on the other thread claims 2A, but i don't think i've seen anyone with those results.
this is a pretty ridiculous problem for samsung to do nothing about is it not? the notion that you can't even charge your note in the car is a bit ridiculous. i wonder if someone makes a kernal with fast charging enabled if we'll be able to get around this

You can't charge if you are intensively using the phone though. it loses charge.
Is there a specific car charger yet for the Note 2? I imagine this issue will be resolved with that charger.
People with the HTC Flyer/Evo View had similar issues. Unless we use HTC proprietary car charger, you lose power while plugged in. Standard usb chargers, charge it very slowly.

I am using the PowerGen Dual USB 3.1A 15w High Output Car Charger since it claims to be a 3.1A charger. What I thought was a fast charge was in reality not. Using the Current Widget app (which shows you the mAh) it registers 9882 mA for one of the usb slots and 10005 mAh for the other using the Galaxy Note 1.

Yes, just like a regular 1mA wall charger, but not like the 2mA one that comes with the Note 2.

Charger works on other phones, not my Note2?

I have a few different Android phones at home. My wall chargers won't charge my Note 2, but have no problems charging my Blaze, S2, and Evo3D. If my charging light even comes on, it might only charge 5% over an 8 hour period.
My 12v car charger works great though. I'm using various chargers, including the white one that came with my Note2. Anyone else notice this?

You are probably using 1Amp charger adapters. You need to use the 2Amp ones that come with the Note 2, or buy another one like the Nexus 7's.

Try clearing the cache via recovery. That may help. Even the stock recovery will let you do that. Boot the device and let it sit for 10 minutes. Couldn't hurt.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
The charger has to be at least 700 mAh output. Better if 1 Ah or higher.
Thanks! Wiping cache seems to have worked. It's charges fine now.

LuguLake 6000mAh Qi

Just purchased 2 or these today. Getting ready for my new Nexus.. I charged these up and to see if they are working put a Iphone 5 on the charger. Neither one of these chargers will charge this phone. Says on the site and the booklet that they support Iphone 4 and 5. Any thoughts?
Found the answer.
Models that Require a Wireless Charging Case / Cover Adapter:
Samsung Galaxy S4 i9500 use directly if the QI receiver built-in back-cover case of the phone, if not QI wireless receiver is required
Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300
Samsung Galaxy Note II
iPhone 4 4s 5
The 4 and 5 if I'm not mistaken does not have qi charging capabilities, I think you need the qi receiver case for the iPhone to work. It's for all the iPhone.
The device will only charge wireless if the phone supports wireless charging. The Nexus 5 will work out of the box, a Galaxy S4 you would need the special back cover they sell. It will not charge any iPhone wirelessly at all. Not unless you had a special back or piece that turns the iPhone into a wireless charge ability. It will charge an iPhone though using the usb cable, maybe thats what it means by charging an iPhone.
This charger is best of both worlds, you can keep it on your desk for wireless charging and take it on the go if you have a long day.
Amazon.com: LuguLake 6000mAh Qi - Enabled Inductive Wireless Charger Charging Pad; Portable Power Bank With A USB Slot
If the price were a little cheaper I would bite but I'm not sure it is worth the price? Someone who has the product want to convince me?
Too expensive for something made in china.
Typical external battery efficiency = 70%
Typical Qi efficiency = 70%
6000x0.7x0.7 = 2940
Expect the phone to charge less than 1.5 times if you use Qi for power.
You'd better use it as a normal external battery that can also be used as a wireless charging pad.

Since the efficiency is so low, if you want to use it as a backup battery, you'd better use a cord instead of using qi.
As a qi charging pad connected to AC, it's fine, though.
I just got this today;
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Qi-Wireless-Charger-PAD-for-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-Note2-S4-Receiver-10000mAh-Battery-/141047804367?pt=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&var=&hash=item20d71ab1cf
basically the same, a qi charger with a built in battery, but with 2 outputs.
great idea to have this as a qi charging pad at home and on a long day can unplug it and have an external battery pack charged and ready to go!
only downside is there isn't a light to show its charging the phone via qi.
I love this charger, IMO it's the best. Here is my review on it, highly recommend it.
I've been using this for a couple of months with my N4 and N7-2013, and it works flawlessly, though I can't speak to 'true capacity' as I've never drained it fully to test # of full recharge cycles it provides.
There's a slightly smaller capacity unit also available (I can't post links yet, but search Amazon for "Qi 4800mAH") that may or may not be a better option, the benefit of that smaller unit being, well, size, in that it is more pocket friendly. Though if you would also use your Qi for a tablet, the slightly larger footprint of the 6000mAH unit might be preferable.
How fast does these Qi wireless charging charges the phone?
I got the LuguLake charger Wednesday, and I must say at first I was impressed, however shortly after I was very, very disappointed. The flaws I have found, at least with the unit I purchased:
Does not charge a 2nd device while plugged into AC power
As of yet, I have been unable to get it to charge the internal 6,000mAh battery since I depleted it once.
I'm going to keep toying with it over the weekend, but either I got a defective model or I'm doing something wrong. Also, anyone with one of these bother to "read" the guide / warnings? I just have to remember not to torture the battery, and to be weary if it ever becomes smelly!

This math is incomplete and may not work. You're ignoring voltages. At what voltage does the 6000mah come out at? Assuming the standard 5V that the USB output is at is usually the wrong assumption for these things - they're often 3.3V. If that's the case, you need to step up the voltage as well.

the 20-30% loss for standard power banks comes from exactly this in combination with any losses in the charging circuit of the phone.
I think the point is that you get crazy losses if you need to both change voltages, and do wireless charging from a limited power source.

usb charger for the car and fm transmitter recomend

hello
1)what do you say about these thing to the car
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...-Cable-for-iPhone-5-5s/213215_1800369296.html
is it will charge the nexus fast?and when only the nexus will charge it will get 8.4 amp?
2)I see many fm transmitter's ,can someone Recommend on one that can go with ringe fusion on the nexus 5 ?
thank you
I use the DC-17 from nokia, it's really powerful, does not even seem to be charging in a car,
If you have an Aux input in your car, I recommend this:
http://smile.amazon.com/Kinivo-BTC4...d=1403801042&sr=8-2&keywords=kinivo+bluetooth
Works like a charm for me, it's got a 1A port where you can connect a USB cable to the charger and then to your phone; it won't charge as quickly as the standard 2.1A charger that comes with the Nexus, but it'll at least keep it from draining too quickly. When I've hooked up my phone to the charger while I was using Google Maps/GPS, it kept my battery steady without draining.
first...I don't have AUX at my car sadly
second I bought the Belkin 4 ports of usb I think that it can give my when the Nexus is charging alone 8.4 amp it soppuse to be very powerful with the orginal cable or with the one that come with it
about the fm transmitter I have two but I thought about new one smaller something like these .
http://img.dxcdn.com/productimages/sku_149709_1.jpg
http://image.dhgate.com/albu_374487441_00/1.0x0.jpg
but I wonder if it goes right with the ringke fusion?
I've been using http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000S...00_QL40&qid=1404014983&sr=8-3#ref=mp_s_a_1_3 for a few years now and haven't had problems. I've bought them directly through amazon not through a third party for about $8. Right now it's just third parties that are selling it. It usually charges my nexus 5 in about an hour fifteen (from 0% with phone off)

Hm, that's surprising. The charger is listed as 950mAh, which would take 2.4 hours to charge the Nexus 5 from dead.
The Anker PowerIQ charger is another good option. It has an output up to 2.4A, and the maximum the Nexus 5 will draw is 1.6A. That gives you a charging time of 1.4 hours. It also has two ports and can charge two phones at the full rate at the same time.
http://www.amazon.com/Anker®-Dual-P...=1404151754&sr=8-1&keywords=anker+car+charger
I was surprised it took so little, last week I had my phone so low that it turned off. I plugged it in for half an hour, when I turned it back on it was at 43%.

Charge speeds weird?

Hey all, just got my M9 on Thursday and I've been finding that charge speeds appear to be very slow. I've used the Anker 40w 5 port charger which should auto detect charging speeds and I'm getting 270 mah read on ampere. Is this just an ampere issue, or am I seriously charging that slowly?
I say this in comparison to my GS4, which when using the same charger goes at as fast as 1900 mah (using fast charge. Right now I have it down to 1200). So I know the capability is there, it just seems like the M9 isn't taking advantage of it for some reason). Anyone else having issues with it?
I'm pretty sure ampere is wrong. It tells me the same speed whether I'm using USB on my computer, my oem charger, or my Quick Charger. And they all have very different charge rates.

Ampere has a hard time with quick charge units. Using a slower charger actually gets you more accurate results. I bought the anker this week as well and it'll sometimes read 290 which I know is wrong.
Okay good to know that it's not just me....anyone know of another app that can give me more accurate readings?
Either way hope Ampere improves

I am the developer of Ampere. I just found this discussion by accident.
I would just have to tell that without your help Ampere will not improve. It is not possible that I buy all devices for the development. Please join the Ampere Beta tester group on G+ and please read the Ampere development thread here on XDA. Maybe we can find a way together to get Ampere working with HTC M9 like the Nexus 6 which already works with Ampere and Ampere can detect the turbo charger.

Just did what I think is right as far as troubleshooting goes, and screenshotted the info page on ampere. Still not getting speeds that I think are high enough, so maybe something can help getting it to work
I use the anker 40W 5 port charger as well. Ampere is reading about 380-400 sometimes dropping to 290. I have GSAM installed as well and getting similar readings. I have a continuing problem with very slow charging even with Quick Charge 2.0 chargers. For example last night I had the M9 plugged into a fast charger for over 12 hrs and it went from 5% battery to 87%. I checked the Settings - Battery usage history - and it displays "NO APPLICATIONS FOUND" - very strange...
Something is very wrong. I have multiple 2 amp and quick chargers all with poor charging times. I have tried 4 different chargers and I tried to post links for the chargers. but the forum rules prevented it.
The Ampere app displays varying charger power from 15 mA to 880 mA so I don't think it is accurate.
Testing with multiple chargers point to the problem in the M9. This is maddening. Seriously considering returning the M9.
Any feedback?

Wow. Did you read my message? especially the part where I write that I have tried multiple chargers? In 12 hrs of charging any one of these should work to fully charge the M9 and they did not.

At least one of these should fully charge the M9 in 12 hrs. I have had very poor results with all of these. I wrote to find out the experience of others with the M9.
I seem to have a defective M9... dang...

The stock charger that comes in the box charges my M9 in about 2hrs30mins (there abouts) from 10% - 100%
With regards to Quick Chargers, the one that comes with the Note Edge can charge the M9 from 10% - 100% in approx 1hr30min...same goes to the Rock Tank Quick Charger I just bought

Wow. Did you read my message? especially the part where I write that I have tried multiple chargers? In 12 hrs of charging any one of these should work to fully charge the M9 and they did not.

Yep i read it, and nothing in your list is Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 .. you can use a million iphone chargers and non of them have the chip in them required to quick charge the M9. did you check my link ?

I found that turning battery saver on but only checking the CPU option helped me. Try that to see if it makes any difference.

Guys .. I just got my m9 and I'm having this exact issue. Ampere seems to work but it's reporting 290mA. I charged the phone overnight and it didn't get to 100%. Really frustrated by this and considering returning the phone. Even though I think it's a software issue. Have also tried a full reset and slowly installing apps to see if it's a rogue app. No joy there tho.
Any advice on this is greatly appreciated.
Try using the charger and USB cable that comes with your M9.
I am unable to charge to 100% if using chargers with 1A output. The HTC charger is as about 1.5A output.
