Free Note 8 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Walked into AT&T today to buy the note 4. They gave me a free note 8 with the purchase. Anyone else do this?

They gave you one on contract or just a free tablet? I paid for my Note 4 full price and didn't get anything ..lol

I was offered some LG tablet for $.99. I didn't really pay much attention because it's actually $240.99 ($.99 + 24 x $10 a month). I guess either your deal or the one I was offered is decent for people looking for a small tablet or one that's LTE capable. I already have a cellular-equipped tablet. Neither of the tablets we're talking about are "fresh" and have at best mid-range specs. The Note 8 was launched in April of 2013.

I also got the free note 8.. free as in you buy a years worth of service for it also.. gave it to my gf.
My mom and dad also upgraded this weekend.. to new iphones.. they got a single ipad for themselves. They were offered 2.. took one because they didn't want to pay for 2 tablets worth of service..

they gave me a note 9 instead. lol

Nice. Yeah I got the note 8 with a contract. I'm using it on my car audio system. Mounted it on dash. I'm kinda a SoundCloud whore and they also upped me to the 60gb plan for the price I was paying for the 30gb. (Have 8 devices on att)

That 'free' note 8 is not so free anymore if you have to sign up for another 2 year contract at $15 bucks a month.
24 x 15 = $360

It's $10 for 24 months and I like not having to fiddle with tethering.

But the thread title is misleading. You're paying AT&T an incremental $240 in mandatory service charges. And if the tablet gets lost, breaks, or you stop using it the service charges continue. I'm not saying that $240 isn't a good deal for some folks. It's just not "free."

I got my note 4 yesterday but nobody offer me anything like a free tablet. But as what you said is likely you have to pay about $10 month so isit really free?

We just switched to family share and the guy mentioned the tablet promo toe as well but again your paying for it over 2 years essentially. Of they had nicer tablets like Barry mentioned, say note 10 pro or whatever I'd be down. We also took advantage of the double data and are getting 30 GB for less than the 15gb plan with our discount.

All Samsung phones free this weekend?

So, I saw the ad for this weekend in chicagoland; free Samsung phones with new service..
After calling 4 stores to confirm that the Gnote2 was included, I have gotten different answers from the stores I called.
Some say it does NOT include the Gnote2, others said it did.
does anyone know for sure if it includes the gnote 2?
thanks!

No one knows for sure until the promotion starts, but supposedly the Note 2 will be available for a reduced price -- not free.
i asked my friend who works for tmobile as a sales rep and he said note 2 is not included but will be on sale.

its hard to figure out what the note will actually cost; its once price for the "classic" plan, and another price for the "value" plan..
I guess I should wait until Friday and go into a store to see for sure..
not gonna lie. if it ends up being free or like a 100 bucks after upgrade, im gonna burn my tmobile store down. being a first adopter sucks. lol
yeah, I'm usually the one on the bad end of the stick too...trying to avoid that this time!
I kinda hate to leave ATT after only 8 months, but it will be a pain trying to get one from them for even 299, which, I could sell my note one for, at least, on Ebay...
Plus, developement is still pretty slow for the note 2, and its great for the note one...
I saw the commercial last night, they mentioned just about every Samsung phone except the Note 2.

its going to be 199 after mail in rebate. If you factor in 3 months till you get your rebate, it still makes sense to get the rebate, pay the 200 dollar migration fee to value and you still save money over the 24 months.

You only save about $40 doing what you are suggesting. The 3 months on a classic plan cost $60 more than a value plan.

There is a news article on T-mo news' website (i would post the link but since i am a new user, i can't) stating that the note 2 is on sale, but just a different offer from the free after rebate sale that other samsung phone is getting.
And I just asked a sales person at a local t-mobile store in southern california and talked to a customer support on t-mobile's live chat. The store's sales person told me the news is correct and the live chat support didn't deny it either (i didn't ask directly about the sale with the live chat).
However, if you asked anytime earlier than today (i'm assuming anytime before noonish), you might get a different response. This is because the sales person at the store told me that he just received it not too long ago (i went to the store at 3:15pm ish today--nov 14th), so this was new to them as well
I just got off the phone with T-Mobile and the Note 2 is eligible but how this "promotion" works is you pay full pop no matter what phone or contract, and the rest / savings are all mail in rebates... I just bought the Note 2 from Firefly and I think I'm going to save the headache and eat the $100, but that's just my take on it.

you pay 20 dollars a month extra for 20 months. thats 400 dollars extra on the classic plan as any fool would switch to value after 20 months with no migration fee. you pay 40-60 dollars extra while you stay on the classic plan and wait for the rebate depending on if it takes 2 or 3 months. You pay 200 migration fee. So you save 140-160 dollars.

An admittedly stupid question, but let's say the Note 2 is part of the deal and one waits til they get the 300 dollar rebate and then take the ETF and switch to prepaid=Note 2 for 200 dollars? Possible? Consequences?

No consequence as long as you pay the etf.
Don't know how you get $200 for note 2 though. Cheapest without including any monthly plans or activation is $400 already.

I think the note 2 is roughly 300 with the unlimited classic plan, which one would get back in the form of a rebate within a couple months if the Note 2 is included in this Friday/Saturday sale. ETF is 200 dollars(since I am on the 30 dollar 5GB prepaid Tmo plan through Walmart with my Gnex and would go back to that with the Note 2), so that's where I pulled the Note 2 for 200 figure from. Just idle thoughts.

What are you paying for your Galaxy S4?

My phone was free, 24 month contract, I can upgrade at 18 months, I pay 35 pounds a month (55 dollars) for unlimited texts, unlimited minutes, 3GB of 4G internet, unlimited of that BT wifi **** (I don't know if that is a thing in anywhere but the UK). My phone is on Orange, but this is the closest board seeing as in the UK Orange customers get access to T-Mobile's services for free. I just wanna know how good I did.

$232.50 - to cancel my Sprint Contract ($200 ETF + $32.50 surcharges/taxes).
$377.25 - to get the S4 ($329.99) + initial charges ($47.26).
$300.00 - to pay off the rest of the phone (or I could've done +$12.50/m for 24 months.. but why?)
$081.99 - monthly bill ($50 unl. talk/text, $20 unl. 4g, $11.99 device protection, $0 wifi calling).
$000.00 - for activation.
Got mine on May 1st, instantly happy with my decision - I barely got 3G speeds via Sprint's E4GT, and
I was paying ~$125 for that bull****. Several Sprint rep's came out and just told me to go to South Florida,
Texas or Tennessee if I wanted to see better 3G (or even 4G!) speeds. I got a lot of dropped calls and
failed text messages (sent and received), horrible. I got $25 off my bill for five months, woo. :\
Awaited the S4 release on T-Mobile, jumped on it April 30th, got it the 1st, have been enjoying the phone
and 4G service since. Don't even care I spent nearly $1,000 at the beginning of the month.

Man, I wish I had that much money to throw around. Would have loved to try the One too. It was a good thing we left Sprint a long time ago. Not the most expensive, but service is worse than T-Mo. Still trying to see if I should keep this EIP or not. Looking for better options since I have the old Classic plan with several loyalty discounts.

For me the S4 is a luxury device. If you have rooted your S2/S3 devices, don't know if S4 is really worth upgrading too. At the least, I think you should wait until at least after Google I/O.
This is my first smartphone - the last 3/4 years that I've been using a cell phone that was a basic 'dumb' phone. It's time for me to upgrade.

We'll see. Though I have played around with the Nexus 4, I have to say there are quite a bit of Samsung apps/features that I enjoy using. I still see Google devices as benchmark devices to show off what the Android OS could do. Some people will find the cheap, no-contract pricing attractive. For me, there are still certain appeals of having expandable storage and replaceable battery that I like.

150 plus 50 in tax, 200 down payment
Since I am on their classic plan, the 20 a month is included in my phone bill. So in essence, I paid 200 bucks for this phone.
$149.99
-$50 ebates rebate for new service
-$50 T-mobile port rebate
=$49.99+39.37 tax = $89.36
If it's a REALLY bad ebay auction I'll get $300 for my S3 plus accessories after fees.i plan on putting that money straight into the device payment.

ebates.com which is an awesome site to get cash back everywhere online, is running a deal with T-mobile.com for $50 cash back on new lines. T-mobile doubled that by porting my number over from AT&T and giving me another $50 in a MC gift card. I tried to let people know to sign up for ebates before the launch, but only a couple of people seemed to take me seriously.
Note: For some reason ebates list my purchase amount as double what I spent, but I only got 1 GS4.
Just paid $681 for S4 no contract anymore and bill is much lower!
i payed $150 down and around $55 in taxes for the total amount of the phone. and im supposed to pay $20 a month for 24 months. im paying 50 a month for the line, no contract. no activation fee. :highfive:

From ATT Unilimieted data (BS throttling) to Tmobile unlimited..any feedback?

Unilimieted is german for Unlimited! LOL
Hi!
I have been on ATT for a long time and still have their unlimited data plan.
I was hoping for feedback on Tmobiles unlimted data plan.
I currently pay about $85 with taxes etc for my plan (and that is because of a $20 discount I get from work!) but as you may now, ATT BS Unlimited means that after 5GB my speed drops to about .5MB!
So I dont want to give any more money to such a BS Bullying company...so I was surprised to read about a $70 plan by Tmobile that offers NO speed drops.
Is this for real?
I was about to get a Note 3 by Tmobile to use on ATT (yeah because of another BS move by att locking the bootloader) and now I am thinking of just changing companies when my contract expires next year.
So any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks!
It's real.
There was a problem with speed some of us had, but they got it fixed. If you have good Tmobile coverage in your area, they are a good choice.
The only real reason to be on Att is if you don't get good coverage with t mobile. Other than that they are great. I am on their 2.5 gb plan because I am dirt poor
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I went by their store today and I really liked what they are offering so I am going to check at work what kind of coverage coworkers get (work sucks for ATT mostly) and I am dropping ATT. I dont care if I have to pay $205 as I was told today to cancel early. I rather do that then pay for their ****ty service tactics for a whole extra year!
My Note 2 is unlocked so I should be able to use it with TMobile as well.
Thanks guys!
During football season, my use skyrockets, due to sunday ticket. Over 8 gigs last month

Oh yeah I am never close to that! My biggest was 12GB and I was in Puerto Rico on vacation so my phone was my internet at the time, but normally I am from 5 to 8GBs so yeah, I am for sure changing. Just need to decide if I end ATT early and pay the fee. Also if I keep the Note 2 I have and use it with Tmobile or sell it to try getting a Note 3..etc.
I ended att contract early due to their bs throttling and switched to tmob. Couldn't be happierr, just do it already .

Just not sure if I should sell my Note 2 and get the Note 3 from them using their payment plan thing which of course ends up paying a lot more for the phone than buying it used i guess, or just keep the Note 2 and use it with them. Guess that is all I need to figure out

Sell your Note 2 and just buy a "like-new" or new T-Mobile Note 3 off of eBay. That's what I did when I made the switch from AT&T over to T-Mobile.
I just bought another brand new S4 off of eBay for $455 and no tax. T-Mobile's full price is $600 (I just checked) but a few weeks ago when I bought it, it would have been like $650 from T-Mobile directly. I don't get why people would finance through T-Mobile and end up paying extra when you can buy the exact same thing on eBay (brand new) and easily save $150 - $200. Then you don't have that higher bill either. This is what I do each time I get a new phone. I sell the old one, and then I just pitch in the $150 - $200 required to get the newer/latest and greatest model.

Buying a T-Mobile phone off ebay is a risky option. You could end up buying a phone that was on the EIP plan and ends up not being paid by the seller/owner of the phone you just bought.
I ended up buying a N3 off EIP and will sell my current iphone to pay some of it off . Then I will pay off the rest of the balance in a month or two.
I have read some horror stories about blacklisted T-Mo phones that were sold to unsuspecting buyers. I was not going to risk it.
Well I normally just check the IME. Like one local seller was doing one cheap, checked the IMEI and it has not been paid fully so...no go for me
Eghh, I just buy brand new sealed phones off eBay. Check the IMEI then when it comes in. I've never had problems buying from reputable sellers on eBay.

Well its been a fun 3 months

So I got the Note 2 with new contract with At&t almost 3 months ago. But seems like development has come to a very slow uphill roll (like how I said uphill). Which is sad because this device IMO is amazing. But T-Mobile has that "we will pay your ETF" promotion going on and they also buy your device so you can buy one of their devices. In which case I only paid $99 for my Note 2 and Im pretty sure they'll give me more than that for it. Plus their plans are less expensive. I pay $127 a month with At&t just for myself and it's only a 4GB plan. Which really sucks because now Im like a vulture everywhere I go trying to find free WiFi connections so I don't burn up my data.
*if anybody has made the switch to T-Mobile via this promotion could you please let me know how the transition went. What did they actually pay for and how much did they give you for your Note 2?
Thanks

Call AT&T Retentions for Note 4 deal!!!

After giving my T-Mobile Note 4 to my brother for his birthday, I tried to see if I could get a deal from Ma Bell themselves. I was successfully. They price matched the T-Mobile variant at $749.46. I did AT&T next at 12 month of $41.30, and received a credit on my bill for $77. Its not the greatest deal, but hey its better than nothing, right? Not too mention I plan on trading the device in after 12 months, so I will only have paid $418.
Just thought I'd share. Give it a shot, you have nothing to loose.

Yep, I've gotten 3 free phones ($600), 4 contracts given an early upgrade by up to 6 months, and probably $1000 in bill discounts by calling them over the last 7 years being polite, nice, and just asking them if they can help with stuff. Not happy with the whole locked bootloader garbage but they've always hooked me up on that end. Just call and tell them what's up and ask them if they think this is possible because you like AT&T and at least want to give them a chance to keep a customer, unless you owe them money or have burned them in the past most of the time they'll do their best to give you what you want. Just be polite, funny, and nice is they key. I called once and talked to a lady from an Atlanta AT&T call center and we ended up talking about how amazing her fried chicken recipe was and how her kids/grand kids loved it and I got a free phone ($200 waved) and 5 months early on my upgrade. It's crazy but it works lol. Good luck

Exactly. I was very polite and thanked him. I mentioned how my bill has never been late and is always paid in full. I was actually quite lucky because they didn't have to do that.
While I'm all down for unlocked bootloaders and root, the truth is, I tinker with my phone too much then. Its gets tiring having to switch roms every week. So I think I'm just gonna do my own thing and call it a day. While I fully support those going to the T-Mobile route, I just found that too much of a hassle. That and very rude T-Mobile staff.
Not only have I had retention credit me to help out a bit. I had them upgrade my wifes line a year early and next day her a new 32gb white s4 before our honey moon last year for free.
I see Sprint has the Edge for $840 as opposed to ATT's whopping $945! Going to call Retentions later and see if they will price match. Thanks for the heads up OP.
Let us know if you were able to get one out of contract for less than full price! I tried 3 times already on phone and chat; retention was ready to let me cancel rather than give me anything to stay. I have always been extremely nice on the phone and usually get deals... but am not getting anything to lower the price of this phone.

Let us know if you were able to get one out of contract for less than full price! I tried 3 times already on phone and chat; retention was ready to let me cancel rather than give me anything to stay. Technically this one out of contract as it was on AT&T Next's program. Instead of paying $825.99, they gave it to me for $749.46 (T-Mobile's note 4 price).

Just called ATT and they gave me a $100 credit. Which is cool since the difference between the Sprint Note Edge and the ATT one is $105.00. So I guess that's the way they price match since they can't actually change the price of the phone?

Are you also on the Next plan? I have found that CSR shut down as soon as I tell them I want to buy it outright and not on Next.

Yes im on the Next plan, if you're buying it outright you should be able to find a good deal online. You may want to try back after you buy your phone.

Do you all know if you on Next plan and you payed off your phone and you want to get new device you have to trade phone you just payed off. Loose , loose on your end. Better is to buy phone some where else for lower price because on Next plan you will end up paying full price on phone and do not get phone. You only trade in your phone if you want a new phone at 12 months. If you keep it 20 (making payments) the phone is yours to do whatever with. Also with my $25 a line discount it only ends up being $19 a month for my note 4 so I end up paying $380 over 20 months to own it free and clear vs $750 buying it outright.

How did you ends up paying $19 a month ? if you choose 18 months Next plan payment you ends up paying $34.42 x 18 = $619 plus you need to trade your phone. $25 line discount is for access not for a phone. If you agree to 2-years contract you pay $15+$25(discount) =$40. I and my wife (accountant) calculate all options and best way is to get phone on some other side then on Next plan. You will ends up paying full price on phone whatever plan and phone you choose from At&t..

I completely agree with you. Next is AT&T's way of charging you the same but making you feel better OR to get you to change phones all the time and give them the old phone back which they can sell for more. The best way is to get the phone out of contract and pay $15 a month under the "bring your own device" discount. My goal is to get the phone out of contract for less than the crazy $825.99 that AT&T is asking for.
Sample Calculation For All Options:
Note 4 out of contract ($825.99) + 2-yr of service with bring your own device discount ($15 x 24 mo) = $1185.99
Note 4 with Next 12 ($41.30 x 20 mo) + 2-yr of service with Next discount ($15 x 24 mo) = $1185.99
Note 4 with 2-yr contract ($299.99) + 2-yr of service with no discount ($40 x 24 mo) = $1259.99
Sample Calculation for Next 12 to make yourself feel better but not really:
Note 4 with Next 12 and service discount ($16.30 x 20 mo) + 2-yr of service with Next discount ($40 x 24 mo) = $1185.99
Let's also consider that you turn in your phone at 12 months like AT&T wants you to; you end up paying $495.60 out of pocket and end up with nothing. AT&T, on the other hand, has to pay for the rest of the bill for the device, which is $330.39. If they could sell the Note 4 in a year for more than $330.39, which of course they could, then they are making even more money of you. You may wish to argue that under the "make yourself feel better" option, you're only paying $16.30 a month so after one year you pay much less than $495.60; great deal, right? No, you just paid the rest under the service plan. AT&T will gladly take your money.
Not sure where your calculations came from but why are you adding the discount to the bill instead of subtracting. I pay 41.30 for next 12 on my note 4 but with my 25off discount i pay 16 a month for my phone. 16x12=192. After 12 months i would only need to pay 192 and then i can turn my phone in and get a new one with no penalties and if i keepy my phone i end up paying 320. The access discount is only appied when you are on the next plan or buy outright so it needs to be considered in your calculations because if you sign a contract your bill jumps +25. For 2 note 4s on next 12 plus 15gb family share with unlimited calling and text i only pay 180 a month. Just playing with the at&t cart i added 2 smartphones to the cart with 10gb share and on contract and the price is 180. I pay exactly what new customers pay but with the option to upgrade early.

Exactly. I plan on doing this.
Anyone else get a deal through retentions?
I did this, I was pissed the ATT version was more expensive than the Tmobile version. Called retentions and complained, they have me a $180 credit. I since sold the ATT version and got a Tmobile one anyway.

Let me clear your mind. The $25 discount is for your line which they normally charge you $40. With the discount you pay $15 instead of $40. Your $41.30 payment stay the same no change what so ever.
