IDEA - Official SlimRoms support for E975 - LG Optimus G (International)

Hi! I recently found, that there's only - AT&T E970, E971 and E973 marked as "geeb" without our international ( ! ) E975 supported (geehrc). I'm looking for people who want to have official SlimRoms on our E975. So i decided to make a request on official SlimRom's forum. Our idea isn't "first thing to do" for developers, so I need a lot of you guys . I think this wouldn't be a big problem, because we already can run on our E975 rom from E973 with a few "modifications". But as you know official support is always better Anyone's interested? And what do you think? Please, let me know.
P. S. - Sorry for my english, it's not my national language...

I dont see how it's worth the fuss. No doubt slimrom is the best, but we can get a simulated official rom fairly easy.

It is worth because it's only "simulated" as you said. Our phone don't have a lot of custom rom support. So we have to look for every possibility of it. As I previously said it isn't hard to do for us and especially for devs. All they need to do is only to modify existing E973 rom to work on E975 and add a right couple of lines to their website.

Dude we had so many roms if you include gee, geeb roms too. If its just a few lines why don't you make it happen?

Because, it isn't official. I know... We can run this rom on our E975. But it isn't strange that E973 have support and E975 no?

Just be happy and respect what we have.

Gee roms are not real roms. Also thats a pretty conformistic attitude, I'm sorry but he can ask if he feels like it.

Official vs unofficial is like saying your not happy getting 99% in a test. Slim has been my favourite rom for years, but I also like running a new rom every few weeks, if we get an e975 rom maintainer it would most likely be at the expense of another new rom. So my statement about being happy and respecting what we have is far from conformist, its just a simple matter of give and take, especially considering we have so few true developers in the LGOG community ( many have moved on...curse you N5, bacon and HTC one). Oh and in my opinion gee roms are real, are getting more real thanks to stock camera thingy and will become even more real once loller and psychogame finish new kernel. Then Kev and fjsferreira are doing wonders with L, its exciting times and I feel thrilled to have an LGOG despite no official slimrom.

I'm really respectful to devs and happy with my unofficial version. But if I wouldn't post to the slimrom forum, they wouldn't even know about E975 and possiblity of supporting it. Why? Because they are working hard in android development, they have their own families, home and work. So they can simply forget or skip it. It's just a reminder for them. That someone is waiting for it. That's all

Optimus G for developmental purposes

I was recently talking with a fellow xda friend about expanding my developmental work to more/different devices and it was recently suggested that the LG Optimus G would be a good place to start. So, what im asking for is either a lg optimus g phone that someone is willing to donate or an optimus g that someone would like to let me borrow for a bit. I do not believe in 'blind porting' or putting out work for devices that i can not personally test myself to ensure that they are up to par before release. I have been developing for about a year now and have contributed to the Samsung Infuse4g forums during that time. You can check out my work from the links in the signature or by visiting the samsung infuse4g threads. You can also take a look at my source files at http://www.github.com/scotthartbti. Please rest assured that if a phone is donated, I will put in work so that the optimus G community benefits. Please PM me with any questions or concerns you may have.
The problem is, there's quite a few Optimus G out there, so which one do you want? Location is an issue too.
You can get a Optimus G for $300 of Kijiji.

Since im asking for developmental purposes, im not going to be picky... Doesnt really matter... the point of asking for a developmental phone for donation is so that i can develop for the Optimus G and not take a hit in the wallet doing so... Im located in the USA.

I believe he means there a god only knows how many versions of the handset, and they are not completely compatible.
So if you buy an E973 for example, rest 80% Optimus G users will be out.
The best choice, would be the E975 EU model. Im sure, it supports more languages ( i guess ). Its pretty new in EU.
We really need a CM dev or aokp/aosp dev here.
I know LG is knowen for slow updates to their phones. But with some gr8 devs, thats not a problem
Im getting this phone tomorrow and im a bit scared of the lack of devs here. I really hope, there will be some more activity in the devs section soon. Or els im sure im going back to HTC again. This is lg's last chance with me

Thanks for the info. Thats why I started this thread asking for a donator optimus. I have gotten the infuse to the cm10 stage unofficially and have been maintaining it since day one. You guys need developers, find me a phone. That way the community will have more variety and I'll be able to develop on a different device. Check out the infuse forums and you will see that I'm definitely capable.
Hopefully that doesn't come off sounding to cocky.

I'd rather see some LG based ROMs... Stock ROMs are nice and all, but the LG has done a very good job with their software.

problem getting photosphere to work.

I have been at this for a long time now. But when I start the camera..it says "gallery stopped working"
I'm on cm10.1 rc5
I tried flashing the camera zip
I tried pushing the files via root explorer setting permission to rw-r-r-
Gallery works but camera crashes...
Help is appreciated!
Maybe, just maybe, because i'm a total n00b,photosphere will not work on non-nexus devices?it doesn't matter if you have the apps related to photospehere,it's coded to nexus framework.it was a while ago working on chad's CM 10.1,but now i don't know, he was complaining about google blocking photosphere on non nexus devices. And chad's cm has nexus4 kernel base, not like the official CM, which has lg source.
so,again, n00bish question, why do you think it would work on G?
if you want photosphere, get a nexus device.if you want photosphere on optimus g, buy nexus device.
Maybe because I read somewhere on xda that people had it working on a optimus g.
It has been reported to work on lot of non nexus devices...so that's why I asked..
well, go to that detailed "somewhere" source and use their procedure. If you would've paid attention to what i said, you'd find out photospehere WAS indeed working, but only on chad's CM,at least on his earlier versions.I saw about a week or so ago chad saying something about google blocking photosphere.
If you want photosphere that much, check his thread. But he has at least 2 major bugs on his rom :
1. Call bug.
2.no focus on camera.
Nr. 2 is redundand, since you want CAMERA features, having a camera with problems, will make photosphere kinda useless, right?
If you don't believe me,go ahead and try.
Maybe it's me but you seem a bit aggressive in your reaction.
I'm just asking a normal question about a function I'm missing and, call me silly, I'm expecting a normal friendly answer.
If this is the way people normally react on the lg optimus portion of the XDA forum than this phone is getting old really fast!!!
So you either get your act together or stop posting on these forums.....idiot!!!

If you want a pad on your back or a hug, you came in the wrong place. I choose the way of giving people information. If they ask stupid questions, i give them smartass answers.Maybe next time they will use search function.BTW,that answer is from one of the top developers here. So you may wanna take on him too. You're saying this device is getting old fast? So?your point? We only have a handful of devs :
- CM team for official CM -but they will not consider any bug/requests
- chad - with his kernel and cm (with the issues i mentioned before)
- thinking bridge team - but their project is based on official CM
- houstonn(but he's more into canadian section, not international G),
- shelnutt2,autoprime and fiddy619 "guilty" of making freegee and for rooting
- bippi79 - avatar rom
- a few others i won't mention here, because you can see for yourself.Which one of them should start working right away on your request?

I got my act together just fine, thank you.You don't like it?Maybe you should stop asking this kind of things if you don't want to get such answers. Bottom line, either you buy yourself a nexus for photosphere or you start porting it yourself. Then share your work here, for free, after alot of time spent, only to see ignorants not happy with it and asking for more.
Bye.
/thread ignored.not worth the trouble reading.
Well dear friend..you just inspired me to trade my OG for an N4...
Not because of the photosphere feature...but.because of your attitude!!!
If you set the "standard" for this community, frankly my dear, i dont want to part of it!!!!
Fantastic job, I hope your proud of yourself!!!
Just a short contribution. I've had the exact same problem as you, and everything that's said here is pretty much spot on. It will only work with Chad's CM and his modified gapps (not sure if it still works). Although I really would love to have the function, we currently just have to accept that since photosphere isn't part of the aosp (I believe?), which makes it not open source it's not so easy to port to any other phone. Even if we basically have a nexus 4 :/
While the nexus4 will have much more development (and photosphere ofc) this is still a pretty awesome phone that has most mainstream roms ported and some really nice devs here.

Your question was definitely legit since there has been pretty much no talk about the photosphere on our phone. I hope its opened up or some workaround to get it working in the future since I think its an awesome function and personally I feel its not worth downgrading to a Nexus 4 just for it though.
Well, dream on. Samsung has it's tw and framework closed, same with htc and the other manufacturers.google must have some cherry picks too.just pure android is not enough.so,google found this nice pick, called photosphere.i know it worked on chad's cm.i was one of the users reporting photosphere working, but not anymore.when google updated it's source, they also add a small code line to detect non nexus devices.
About my friendlyness,we are not here to join hands and sing kumbaya.we are here to share and gain knowledge.i'm learning something new almost everyday and i try to contribute as much as i can. If this makes me an idiot, because someone doesn't know what questions to ask or he can't use a simple forum search function, then i am an idiot.
Only if he knew i helped alot of people here, since my days on galaxy s forum,3 years ago.
Well,have a good life.

Please go bother someone else on nexus4 area.ingrats like you will never be satisfied unless they have their asses kissed.you're not the center of the universe so no one owes you squat. When a person starts to offend another,it just shows how intelectually limited that person is.i gave you cold hard arguments on the subject, the only dev that made photosphere work for G says it won't work anymore because google blocked non nexus devices and what do you do?you start calling me names, like you know me.i'm sick and tired of ignorants like you. You were the first one starting with insults in your first reply. If you had just said that "some week ago it looks like Google patched out non-nexus phones" it would have ended in a third post saying "Okay, thanks". Now lets stop the drama and continue on. For now its not possible, but we never know in the future, this is a development forum after all.

hi,
I'll chime in if you guys don't mind..
All roms 4.3 for sprint that was built by me was just showing some love to sprint users.. I wanted to get the ball rolling for sprint and eventually hopefully someone could continue and with my help they would be off to a rolling start already.. I don't own a sprint g2. I'm a Canadian g2.. I usually don't like building variants that I cannot personally test myself..
I felt is is unfair while everyone owns such a beautiful phone and not able to have it custom while other variants of the exact same phone are able to. So I tried my best to do what I could while I had the time to..
All 4.3 roms I posted for testing will not be supported by me nor will I take responsibility for any problems it may cause..
I will only support anything current that I personally post myself.. anyone is more than welcome to try anything I have released previously, cause if I didn't ok that I would remove the file myself.
I'm a member of PA and all my releases with 4.4 will be built from PA sources. PA is starting fresh so the builds are basically same as stock aosp google releases except with the few minor additions. PA is reworking fresh and will bring in all the known pa features as time passes. it won't be officially support until I post an official thread. but right now I have alpha test builds out. I hate having temporary download links all over the place..
but as for sprint, I felt you guys needed some loving too since I don't see much support at this time.. as for other roms and other official roms, I don't know if the devs will support this variant or not.. it helps to have a dev that has the same variant.. I guess the Canadian g2 ppl will be lucky since I use a Canadian g2
I will try my best to support what I can with the amount of time I have.. having a full time job and building so many variants is very time consuming.
On another note. if someone wanted to post a link for any testing it's best that it should of been posted in the General Section since this forum is for development purposes..
all aside. if you guys want I have an alpha test build of PA 4.0 kk4.4 for the sprint ls980. you can find the rom here.
links can change at any given time.. I will work some more at fixing some bugs but this is what I have to offer for now.. I hope u guys enjoy.thanks. it's best you follow my thread in the original dev forum until I have a formal thread posted with full support but as for now this is what you get till I have more info.

I don't think anyone will be working on 4.3 anymore... I will most like support sprint officially with PA if have enough time to manage all the erors.. it seems more simple with the other variants since they are gsm and have mostly all things in common..
we are in the process of all migrations and merging of 4.4. If I don't build officially for sprint I'll make sure to have all the sources on PA's legacy github https://github.com/AOSPA-legacy and anyone that wants to build for you guys would have all the sources they would need.. there is 2 branchs or gits for PA now. the AOSPA which is PURE AOSP and PA uses for Nexus supported devices and now AOSPA-legacy which is for all supported non nexus devices we support. I will try my best.. remember im 1 man.. the team has so many devices and so many things on the go. If I had a whole team of devs working on this with me , it would be much more simple .. I am working with a few ppl and am helping another dev bringup 4.4 for Omni (hopefully if u guys can convince him, he'll build for sprint too )
it's still so early and knowing that g2 has kk. im sure more devs will jump on.. just a little patience
I'll do what I can for you Sprint guys.. but you have to bare with me. I'm only one guy like I said.. I'll keep you guys updated tho.. for all other info you can always go on irc on freenode.org in #lg-g2 . I may not always be online.. and please.. let's keep those PM msg flooding to a minimal. I've been flooded a lot lately and I don't have the time to visit every thread and every PM. I have a hard time enough keeping up on my own thread.

CyanogenMod 12/Android L Discussion

Hello everybody.
So I was wondering, when CyanogenMod 12 comes out, will they still support all of the devices they have been supporting? Or at least, in specific, our device? I can't imagine why'd they drop support.
Also, I hear in the new Android version, the Linux 3.10 kernel is being used. As opposed to the current 3.4 kernel we are using. Does anybody know about any significant changes between the two?
This is very exciting if/when we get this on our device I personally will just wait on a CM or AOSP version of Android as stock never really does it for me.
I don't know, but the more I think about it, the more excited I get (also the more apprehensive I get since I'll have to upgrade my kernel sources).
I know I probably shouldn't bring this up, but I also can't wait to blow my friend's new iOS 8 update out of the water with CM12/L (Not like CM11 doesn't already do that )

You'll have me doing the little bit I can for this device for the next 8-9 months I'm stuck with this thing
Don't worry about developing ROMs, all you really need to know is how to compile and maintain. I plan to attempt at some unofficial builds of a ROM or two once I can deem my kernel as done. But don't worry, the LG OGP is definitely booming with activity right now, and will probably only get better with the following months to come.
We already have:
Gummy
PAC
Beanstalk
CM11
AOKP
AICP
Vanir
and a pretty good range of stock ROMs.
Soon (and I mean within a month or so) I hope to add Carbon and Paranoid Android to this list, but we will have to see. I do not know how to compile unofficially or much about it, but it doesn't look extremely difficult. So my hopes are high.
Plus, as this device drops in price, we may get some more people to keep development for this device relevant. Although I did not see our device in the local AT&T store last time I was there...
We have a beautiful phone with the processing power to last as a quality device for another year at least. LG makes some pretty nice stuff.
Unfortunately, we will be seeing more and more of our users leave as the months drag on as this phone gains age
We'll have to see who lasts the longest with this phone as their primary device... lol.
I suspect we will reach our peek in ROMs soon a few months after Android L is up and running. Just my guess though.
Shayne has a good point though, now is definitely the time to start. So better hit the tutorials!

It seems as though a lot of ROMs by that particular dev get abandoned eventually... but that's none of my business.
Yes AICP would be a great one to start on, first thing is first though, rjm, get yourself on a Linux VM or a Linux computer. Also, I hope you have some decent specs or it'll be hell trying to do it.
For example, I have an AMD FX-6350, so I have 6 cores in my system. I can allocate 4 to my VM
And you'll want some RAM, too. Like 8 GB so if you're using a VM you can allocate 4 as well.
For the distro I suggest using Linux Mint 64-bit (has to be 64-bit).
And I really hope your host OS is 64-bit, because otherwise you are probably incapable of compiling ROMs.
Best of luck!
P.S: I downloaded Carbon sources today. We'll see how that goes.
Oh also be sure you have PLENTY of free space, those sources love hogging space. I just cleaned out my old VM and set up a new one with 200 GB of space allocated. Thank God for Terabyte HDDs
Staying on topic, the L/5.0 SDK was released today. Approx. two weeks until the official Nexus release, and hopefully not too long until we get a taste of that afterwards.
KitKat was great (it felt like the smoothest Android experience ever when I flashed my first KK ROM) but I'm ready for Lollipop!
Material design looks interesting, although I gotta say... the circle triangle square virtual buttons aren't the best design choice imo. Maybe it's to make switching from an iPhone to an Android easier for the iUsers that find the current system to difficult to understand  They sure like their shapes of rounded edge squares and circles.
I'm not kidding, actually. A friend of mine steals my phone all the time and she cannot figure out PIE to save her life...

I don't think I want to compile AICP. Beanstalk is the only ROM IMO that really would be a loss if development stopped. The features of Beanstalk outnumber those of other ROMs

What about compiling it for the sake of learning how to compile...?

Is Beanstalk as stable as cm11. Does it have a RC or something similar to PAC or M11?

I'm pretty sure Beanstalk only releases stable updates. From what I remember there aren't any nightlies, as it sometimes is months before a new update is released. That is another reason why I like Beanstalk better than other ROMs.
I will be happy to see official LG update for Android Lollipop 5.x Waiting for updates!

Probably a sort of noobish question, but anyway many roms are cm-based (including beanstalk), and even aokp is cm enabled. How dependent are these roms on cm, basically meaning could they sustain themselves without cm continuing support too?

I think CM official support is close to vital for these ROMs, mainly for the kernel, but also because they update the device thingy you use to build ROMs I do believe.
I am 90% sure we will receive updates from CM though. They sure know how to take care of their devices.
Any custom ROM will do, if we are talking about testing the new Android L. What's bothering me is the support for F240x devices. If CM, Beanstalk, VANIR/COMMOTIO or AICP (the one I am using for a long period of time), will release an update, will there be a KERNEL or ROM that will work for the F240x?

I really hope it is for your sake. Luckily the dev that makes F240 ROMs for you guys seems to know what he's doing, and I'm sure he'll keep working for you. As long as e980 has support he can use that kernel and use it for F240.

[Q] no paranoid for lg g3

i have realized that no mainstream custom rom team is providing its flavor to lg g3 users (even after its specs are somehow more then that of samsung galaxy s5/one m8).. i know the reason might ber "not unlocked bootloader" but there already is a work around by team bump to bypass bootloader check.. i always have used paranoid rom on pretty much all older devices i had(and trust me, i loved i more then any rom out there);but sadly all i can do now is hit on my face with my flagship device as the team is not planning/yet have provided any official support/announcement!
please do consider or i will end up throwing this flagship device and take s5(with lower specs) just for PA :|

Why should we have to buy devices with official support for a free rom? I'd much rather make donations or create a kickstarter for G3 support from PA.
Yes PA has been my favorite AOSP rom since my Galaxy S3 but I don't see why they haven't already begun developing for the G3, especially with an official CM Nightly build for most G3 models D85X.
Unless they are waiting for a milestone or something>
Paranoid, plz support the G3 D855, even if I saw an official experimental I'd still contribute and offer to test.
Plz PA! You guys could take over the G3 XDA forums!
Much love!

We don't support devices that aren't open. We will never officially support the g3 in any form.
You can keep an eye on the legacy community on g+ and hope and pray that the legacy team takes on the g3.
There is more to supporting a device than just having one. That's the first step to supporting it.

What?! Didn't you know that we are supposed to own every device and have intimate knowledge of every device and build for it without having a device in hand to verify everything works?
I mean, hell, it's only money and time, right? Oh, **** I forgot, we don't have either of those things.

T- Mobile LG G3 (d851) is the only with an unlocked bootloader and compared to the other variants of G3, this variant has less roms. I hope they support this variant instead since its the only one thats unlocked

Good luck with that....considering nobody has money to be buying devices like that and it would still fall under the legacy team.
