[Q] How to turn off camera shutter sound - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've read that the tmobile folks are able to turn off the shutter sound but can't seem to find that option anywhere. I even tried using root explorer to rename the camera_click.ogg like I did on my s3 but that didn't work.
Any ideas?

Nope, not on my Sprint Note 4.

Do you see any of those settings?

pretty sure that Sprint disabled the ability to turn off the shutter sound (a Sprint thing and not a Samsung thing). Sprint claims reasons of privacy and that they don't want people taking photos of people when they don't know your taking them.

I don't have that shutter setting. I also don't have Drama Mode. It is shaded out.
Any input is greatly appreciated!

System/csc/feature.xml/(in a text editor)CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu >false
Find that line and change to true. Let it backup and then reboot. Should see your shutter toggle in camera settings.
This only works if you've gained root (that I'm aware of). And I have the sprint variant Note 4.
Update: It needs to be changed to "true" as default says false. Had it mixed up. My apologizes and thanks for correcting me Chad.

Change to "true", but it worked. Sprint Note 4, of course, confirming the fix.

"method public getModel()" and "method public getDeviceID()". Right before the return at the bottom of each function, put: const-string v1, "GT-I9300" (replace v1 with the value the return uses, v0 for getModel, v1 for getDeviceID.

Thanks for posting this... I'm wondering a couple of things:
- why did it work for a good 13 or 14 hours with no problem, through a few reboots, and never once give a network error -- and then suddenly start showing this, to me and to several other folks round the same time?
- if I modify build.prop as described, what's the potential impact on other operations on my Galaxy Nexus? Will other software get screwed up, thinking it's on a phone that's different than what it's really on?
Thinking about the first question brings me back to my earlier speculation that perhaps Samsung or Vlingo was filtering communication based on the S Voice unique ID -- but that was pretty much disproved. Now I'm wondering whether Vlingo is filtering traffic for this app based on device type, and is restricting it - for the moment - to S3 devices...

So far, I've gone thru all of the apps on my device and haven't had any FC's. I'm currently downloading a few from market to see if there's any issues with that.
Hopefully, Sammie doesn't start filtering based on something else.

I did the above and i don't get a network error but i get a FC when the answer starts to come back from any questions. tks,
If you are getting FCs after making the the build.prop changes and rebooting just reinstall the apk and that should fix everything.

Multitasking Feature

Does the At&t version of the Note 2 not include multitasking? I know a little while back Sprint users got this feature with a firmware upgrade so I figured that the At&t version would ship with this feature.
Anyone else buy a Note 2 today and notice this feature missing?

The AT&T version is already behind on updates. I went into the store today to look at the Lumia 920. Meh. The salesman showed me the Note II. I long pressed the back button...no multitasking menu. Took out my international Note 2 and showed him the multitasking in action. He was amazed. I told him THIS is the reason I don't buy carrier branded phones. They are always behind on updates. I wasn't being a jerk, I know they guy wanted to re-sign me on a contract. I was just making a point.
Point taken by him. I walked out of the store. This is why you buy unlocked. Not even LTE would lure me into a carrier locked, slow to update phone.

My mistake. I still have an S3, so didn't realize they changed it to the back button. (Patiently waiting for Verizon to release their N2). That's weird it doesn't work for you tho. One potential workaround would be using a different launcher like Nova or Holo and creating a launcher shortcut for recent's. Doesn't help if you're in an app, but you could at least place it somewhere convenient on your homescreen.

Ahhh...multiwindow. Haha! I always considered recent apps "multitasking" but I guess multiwindow is the true definition of multitasking now! I don't think many carriers included it out of the box, but most seem to be releasing updates with it already.

[How to] Enable on screen buttons

Samsung should have made the capacitive buttons work with the s pen. I have a few times tried hitting them with the pen only to feel like a idiot.
I am not 100% on where I found this, but with a easy build.prop edit you can enable the on screen buttons so that you can use the s pen.
I'm not responsible for what happens and all the usual disclaimers, and have a back up.
Using a root explorer app, go to system and long press on build.prop to select text editor.
At the bottom, add (without quotes) this line:
"qemu.hw.mainkeys=0"
And to turn them off, change it to:
"qemu.hw.mainkeys=1"
Or simply delete what you orginally added.
Enjoy!

I was about to post the same, after seeing entries from the rest of the file. It worked! Thank you. Coming from AOKP, this is a great addition.
I do notice that the menu button is missing when the home screen is showing. Any way to get that back? My plan is to turn off the hardware buttons altogether. Cheers.

The quick answer for the menu soft key is Google disabled it. Apps should have a menu button in the UI, and when it doesn't is when it shows in the soft keys.
It can be made where it is always there, but it takes a ton of coding and would require it to be done for each themed ROM. I might mess with it one day, but it doesn't seem worthwhile as it knows when to enable the menu soft key.
Sorry, but if I do it, it would be for my own ROM. It's hard enough to have time to work on that, let alone touch others to enable something that many wouldn't use
sent from my awesomely huge Note II
This isn't necessary
Just draw a "^" or a "<" anywhere on th screen (pressing the spen button) and it will either bring the menu or take you back, just as the capacitive buttons. Its explained on the spen help section on the settings.

I could resize it so the icons are smaller, but again that requires a framework edit. I would have to do it for every themed rom, or I need a morph zip. If someone knew how to make a morph zip, that would be the easiest way.

Stupid Wi-Fi calls notification delete?

Any way to get rid of the Wi-Fi call persistent notification? I like Wi-Fi calling but dislike the notification even more!
I dont mind the logo on the notification bar, but dont need it in the pull down too
Not that I have found yet I want it gone too
If you are rooted try "notifications off" from the play store. It's free but needs root permissions. I used it on my HTC one and loved it but haven't rooted my G3 yet, so can't comment specifically for the WiFi Calls notification. Don't see why it wouldn't work though.

Now i have activated Air-View with Fingers.
The Phone must be rooted.
You must go in the folder system---> etc and edit the floating_feature.xml
SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_COMMON_GESTURE WITH FINGERHOVER from FALSE to TRUE.
SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_SETTINGS_SUPPORT_FINGER_AIR_V IEW from FALSE to TRUE.
REBOOT
Now Finger-Air-View works on my device without any problems.

I follow all the instructions..not working for my:confused device SM-N915G
I even added the toggle, but is not working well... And... The AirView only works with the pen, not the finger. (anyway, the Finger AirView doesn't actually work on any of my devices...) If anyone can make the toggle work... That would be great... Removed toggle...
All of this apllies to the Note Edge & Note 4... same behavior on both devices.

Update : it no longer works with lollipop!!!
Is the air view refer to the air hover thing that was in s4? Where you could do stuff on phone without actually touching it?
