How many MONTHS until we get VoLTE? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any guesses? I'd say sometime in Q2 2015 due to general Verizon incompetence.

i thought we already had it? my G2 got an update to get it..i never tried it though

Do you understand about VoLTE? it provides no benefit what's so ever. It's a gimmicks to get your money!

I actually like HD voice... which uses VoLTE... It's definitely much clearer if both parties have HD voice.

Yep, that is the main feature of VoLTE, way better voice quality. I would think to be fully implemented, everyone needs the new equipment which compatible with VoLTE, which seems to be quite a while.

Fact of the matter is, Verizon advertised the phone as VOLTE, then recently, removed that icon from the Note 4 page, just like they did with the headphones.

Some markets are VoLTE capable now, but you and the person you called must have a supported phone to get HD. It sounds very good. I've heard several T-Mobile customers talk to each other with it.

No benefit, if you ignore the much, MUCH clearer voice quality. Right.

This really wasn't a "help" thread, it was a discussion on when we get volte support. But alright I guess.

No man. It's free. VoLTE is much clear on both sides of the call. I used it on my GS5, my wife also has a GS5 and it was great.
it's not gimmicks to get your money because it's free.
I think the Note 4 should have it in about a month or so. I'd say depends on how popular this phone will be and how bad people will bug VZW to give it to us.

Any XLTE phone can be compatible with VoLTE, in maybe 2 years most smartphones should be

VolTE just needs an update.. same like G2/S5

the next vzw to get it are the droids from last year. i'm guessing the note 4 will get it before the end of the year. the s5 already has it.

interesting, I assume they will need to do an update to each phone's radio?
Hahaha that suppose to be starting yesterday. Weird that just today y friends started telling me that they cant hear me well. That my voice comes and goes but this is suppose to be for tmobile users not the callers
Probably be in an update. Haven't gotten anything on my end.
I am all about it though. Especially my stepdaughters Nokia Lumia as it is ridiculously terrible on the voice side, which is strange as Nokia used to be known just for how good their call quality was. Been through 3 replacements to boot....
My S3 sounds fine as well on most other phones, but the more the merrier as the old saying goes.
Sent from a galaxy far away!
Funny thing is with all the teaming off att frequency band AND thus hd voice thing, my s3 signal quality been worsening. More dropped calls and when not dropped, sounds quality is mediocre to not useable.
Only recently though.used to be quite useable

If you go into Service mode *#0011#, you will see AMR 12.2Kbit/s. Im guessing that this is it. I wonder if you need to have noise reduction enabled for this? Also, I've noticed my signal improved( Usually -89dBm) I'm reading 83dBm now...

I read somewhere that you need T-Mobile wifi-calling/IMS for VoLTE (Voice over LTE, or in this case HSPA+ "4G")
Oh yes, it is also going to be used for T-Mobile's VoLTE for its 2013 LTE launch, too. So it really does need to become supported in CM9 and AOSP soon.

Source: xda post
T-Mobile open sourced IMS, which is used to allow apps to use wifi-calling (source is here). In order for "HD voice" to work on AOSP based/non-TW ROMs, IMS support will have to be added to the ROM. AFAIK, it can be done with the code T-Mobile and Movial released, but whether it ever gets added is looking slim as no ROM developer has expressed any interest in it it looks like the source T-Mobile released is pretty useless without knowing how to connect or authenticate with T-Mo's servers.
Sorry if I sound bitter, but I'd personally love to see wifi-calling ported to CM10 T-Mobile ROMs (especially the S3), but it doesn't look like it'll happen. I get horrible coverage in my home and drop calls/lose signal if I move into most areas inside. That said, wifi-calling is the only thing keeping me from ditching TW for a nice CM10 based ROM.
+1 and agree with you. That is the only thing keeping me from a cyanogenmod based rom. I prefer those anyway over everything else. But until wifi calling comes to an aosp rom i will have to stay on tw

LG G3 is not listed.
Figures... Thanks for the link though
But no LG phones are listed, so it must be unlisted for a reason other than no update coming...
Nexus 6 isn't listed either. I'm pretty sure being omitted from that list does not mean the G3 isn't getting lollipop.
I am not quite sure as to how the LG G3 Lollipop update was left off of the list, but I am happy to report it is in the T-Mobile testing phase. And our testing is going really well. I will reach out to product development and try to get it added to the list. Thank you for pointing this out.

Agreed
G3 is now listed as 'Manufacturer Development'.
Why on earth is T-Mobile just now in the testing phase when every other carrier has had a release. T -mobile is the new Verizon when it comes to updates, very sad. I expected more from the uncarrier.

Could be, T-Mobile is the only carrier using IPV6 only on LTE (if I'm not mistaken). They could also have required VoLTE be working, so LG could be taking longer to make sure all this works. Still sucks that it's taking so long.
i had to move from a nexus 5 to a lg g3, what a regression when you see t-mobile slowing such updates!
I've been using a Moto X 2nd Gen. New job has the silly policy of not allowing rooted devices to access our craptastic Lotus Notes e-mail. The G3's KitKat build is unusable without root. Hoping Lollipop is better, otherwise the G3 will be finding a new home.

I tried. Didn't work. They use Airwatch and I couldn't get anything to fool it on the G3 while rooted.
But now that you pointed me to it again, I searched through the RootCloak thread and apparently there is a version of Airwatch that can be fooled. I'll have to try it and see if I can get it working on my G3. That would be awesome.

The answer is so simple...
There's developmental teams for each region and NOT all of them finish at the same time... The last responses shows how childish some people are. Some devices get finished on other carriers and some don't. T-Mobile isn't always the first and they are not always the last. You can say that with ANY carrier.
If manufacturers really wanted to fix this problem they should take away the carrier options they give them, and then have a single base phone so they only need to code for a single device(iPhone 6, and 6+ as an example they are all exactly the same). Of course device prices would get more expensive then people will complain how expensive they are while blaming the carrier for the prices.

The fact of the matter being LG had 5.0 in hand early to mid Q4 and many carriers were putting finishing touches on their certification by the end of the year. We are now 2 months in to Q1 and every carriers' update status has surpassed ours. When you say there are different development teams for each region I assume you mean domestically which makes perfect sense but isn't that a nice way of saying "we're not ready yet". I'm not one to usually ***** about updates because it makes things less enjoyable in most cases but I'm a little blown away. When I heard LG G3 was one of the first handsets scheduled to get lollipop I thought for sure T-Mobile would shine once more. I just need to modify my definition of "soon" because in T-Mobile's dictionary the definition is a month or more.

Oct 17 security update has new camera app too

There was a new security update for the Verizon version of the Moto E4 this week. It may have been released across the whole Moto E4 product line.
Besides securing the phone from the Blueborne Bluetooth weakness, the update also updated the camera app.
I was pleasantly surprised with both.
Does anyone know if the camera is performing any better in low light? The camera has been one of the few big weaknesses of this great cheap phone.
My Boost Mobile Moto E4 has received a whopping ZERO updates. It's still sitting on the May security patch... Hopefully we actually receive the update at some point.

Waiting and hoping... The story of Android.
The kicker, I have a LG Stylo 2, that was updated to the September security patch a couple of weeks ago, in fact LG has supported that phone consistently throughout the years. Sad to see Motorola, who builds basically a AOSP phone, unable to provide updates in any sort of consistent manner. I like Android, but that's way I switched over to iPhone... Timely Support.

There is a huge difference between the two. $800+ on a Pixel and only 2 years of support, spend $800+ on an iPhone and 4+ years of support.
I can't afford to spend large amounts of money every couple of years to play catch up.

On a more serious note, I think I've made up my mind to buy this phone (my reservations are: 1. smaller than expected battery and 2. very poor software support).
If by August the support improves, I stay.
If not, I sell and get ROG phone 3
They should send phones to custom rom developers instead of youtubers. You keep customers happy with your device and it fixes all the flaws and security holes that outdated and buggy firmware involves.

Still a great buy today June 2020?

Hello, I am wanting to buy a smartphone that is as complete as possible in all aspects and this LG G8s is a great option that I am seeing.
One of my doubts is the Software, in many reviews they kill it for it, is it so bad?
Do you still recommend it or would you buy another one at the same price today ($ 400)? The only two that call my attention against the G8s are the Huawei P30 and Xiaomi Mi note 10.

The price is the only one I get in Argentina, I can't buy on eBay.
If you don't care about updates, the software works out of the box. You do not have to restrict, disable, deactivate applications. Everything is working properly.
The ONLY thing this phone has going for IMO is the price. I got an ATT version for $230 and don't feel ripped off at all. If I paid $400 for it? Yeah I'd probably feel ripped off.
Hi, how are you? I tell you my experience, I have had the LG G8s ThinQ for three months and for now no problem, except as they said above, the topic of the updates because it has not yet been updated to Android 10 being high-end of 2019. But someday it will arrive for sure . Beyond that, excellent equipment, supports any application and game without problems or lags. Great screen, perfect audio, beautiful design. I am quite satisfied except for the updates because I really like modifying the system (modding). I bought it in Argentina together with your LG W7 watch.
I got a Verizon G8, it's been updated and everything to Android 10, has desktop mode, beautiful screen, great cameras, it's fast, battery life is good. The LG G8 is very under rated.

How is it not an option then? If you have an exploitable firmware version
I have a G8 through Xfinity and I think it's pretty great. I have always had phones that could be rooted and ROM'd, but I don't really miss it. The quad dac is awesome, it's fast, every game I've tried works great, and I get updates all the time. I just got one today. G820QM520i. June security update. I think even at $400 this phone isn't a bad value, especially depending on where you live.
