[Q] m8 AOSP build - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to build 4.4.4 for the m8 from aosp, without basing off the code from a custom rom like cm11 or PA?

Why not? They did it. ?
Gotta be an expert chef tho.

I know, I've tried looking it up but I can only find guides for aosp-based roms

[Q] Build AOSP ROM

Hello Developers
is someone able to create an AOSP (KitKat 4.4) ROM for our Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini? It would be great if we have a "vanilla" Android version for our Smartphone and this can be used as base for other ROMs. Would be great if someone could build it
Greetings

Most ROM are based on AOSP or CM (which CM is based on AOSP) :/
And if you want a minimum ROM, there's few ROMs are even less 'bloat' and more 'vanilla' than AOSP itself.
I think he meant that he wanted an actual aosp rom, not just an aosp based rom. While we don't have a pure "aosp" rom for our phones, cyanogenmod is pretty close, slimkat is also pretty bare if you're into that. I'm sure a lot of people could port it, it just remains to be seen if any developer is interested enough to actually do it.
Yes a pure AOSP ROM would be great. The whole ROMs which are aviable for our device are based on AOSP so I think it wouldn't be so difficult to build one from AOSP isn't it?

Slim kat is equal to Slim ROM? In that case there is already a port to the S4 mini in the developer section of this forum

[Q] Sense 4.4.4 Custom Kernel?

Hello there
4.4.4 has been out for a while now on a couple of custom ROMs but unfortunately I cannot seem to find any custom kernels that support it. I looked in both the Android Development and Original Android Development sections but the latest I could find were for 4.4.3.
The reason I am asking is because I would like to install MultiROM but it requires kernels with kexec-hardboot patch, like ElementalX and such. I am currently running the latest Android Revolution HD 20.1 4.4.4 which I assume has a stock kernel?
Can anyone please help and/or point me in the right direction? Would it be possible to install kernels based on 4.4.3 if 4.4.4 ROMs are still using an older kernel or would I just have to wait?
Thanks1

No custom kernels exist yet for Sense 4.4.4. Custom kernels require access to the kernel code, and that is yet to be released yet by HTC. Unfortunately, those who have tried 4.4.3 kernels on 4.4.4 roms have ended up with bootloops.
Yeah.. bootloops is what I was afraid would happen. Thanks for your information, cr1960, I appreciate it.

Build AOSP Lollipop ROM

Hello Devs,
I think the new Lollipop version is great but at the moment we only have CM12 ROMs for our S4 Mini. Can someone of you build a pure AOSP Lollipop ROM for our device that other dev's can use as base for other ROMs? I do not like CM and at the moment I'm using SlimKat but it looks like there is no update to SlimLP in the next days so it would be great if someone can build a pure AOSP LP ROM.
I would do it for myself but I have no experiance in ROM development. I found this thread but I'm not sure how to add our device. Also I found this and this repo on GitHub but I do not know which from them (or maybe both?) I need to compile the ROM or if I have to change something on them because they are for CM and not for AOSP. It would be great if someone can teach me these steps because this is often my problem when I try to learn something about Android ROM developemnt.
Yours sincerely
Cilenco
Cm12 at the moment is just aosp, give it a try it's very good

[Q] Android 5.1 ROMs help

Hello, i need an advice from you guys.
i've been looking for 5.1 (not sense) builds for the m8, but cant decide which one is better for me or maybe just better overall.
On the other phones i had i used CyanogenMod, now im running SkyDragon Sense 7.0, but i dont like sense, the best thing of that rom is the harman/kardon mod, but the problem is that i get some FC and sometimes it get really really slow.
What ROM i can use that is stable for a daily use and have enough features like the GPE versions?
CM12.1? CyanideL? Team UB ROM? SkyDragon 5.1 GPE? dont know what others 5.1 ROMs are here

Kernel Compatibility

I'm not new to the rooting seen at all, but I am new to the M8. I know Sense kernels go with Sense and GPE with GPE. My question is I don't see any AOSP or CM kernels. So are GPE kernels compatible with CM or AOSP? I'm having trouble understanding the kernels. Thanks in advance.
