[Q] AT&T GS3 No data connection, APN's wont save. Nothing works. - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I posted this a while ago so i will just copy paste that post and add on some after.
"I have a AT&T GS3 running Packman Rom, one day i was updating my rom, data was working fine and after i flashed the update i had no data connection, so i restored from a back up before the rom update and same thing no data, so i restored my phone with ODIN using the default ROM, still no data. So i restored from the backup again and found out i had no APN's in the APN settings area. So i tried restoring defaults, nothing happens it says "defaults restored" or something along those lines and nothing shows up, when i try setting my own APN with the right stuff and i save still nothing there. Any ideas on how to fix? I have downloaded some apps to manage the APN's but they don't work on android 4.0 +."
I found a work around for apn back and restore and managed to get it working, but it didn't help. I have tried pretty much everything, i made a video this time to help show what is going on. Also my IMEI is fine.
Update: I forgot to mention i got LTE working some how just fiddling around, but cant remember how.

Have the exact same issue. Remote reset via FIDO (Canada) fixed this issue but its back again with a vengeance and have run out of all ideas. Began after flashing firward to 4.4.4 although I see similar issues from 4.4 onwards for others.
1. APNs dont get stored. Adding and saving does nothing. I can still see all the essential APNs in the xml file...rebooting or resetting somehow still doesnt get it read
2. Unknown phone number- phone doesnt register.
In conclusion, wifi, calls work fine. MMS and data do NOT.
Help! >.<

ok, not a solution but after you get this figured out and working again....you can download terminal emulator from playstore. type su (hit enter) it will ask for SU permission. grant it. type...
reboot nvbackup (hit enter) it will go black screen and you'll see small blue letters in upper left corner and phone will reboot. this will save all that data.
sorry dont have a fix which you obviously need. but will ask/search around.
good luck

[Q][Help] No service after rooting my Galaxy S3?

I haven't been able to find a solution to this yet. I rooted my phone last night and after that, I lost my signal. All I get in the top corner is the circle with the line through it in place of the signal bars. I've tried everything I can think of. I've re-downloaded the files and re-flashed my phone twice. I've even unrooted my phone and put the stock rom back on there and still nothing. I'm kind of at a loss right now and could use some advice on how to fix this. So if anyone knows a solution to this I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks in advanced for your help.

I am having this same issue...sadly
I've never had this happen with any of my other devices. Will I have to unroot back to stock, or can I use a stock rooted ROM? Because after dialing ##72786# in the dialer, it rebooted, and now says "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped" every two seconds...and still no service.
I'm worried, but am confident someone should be able to help me out on xda. I'm so impressed at all of the work that takes place on here. I wish I had the time to be able to learn how help others like myself in situations like this. :highfive:

Out of curiosity what happens when you do *#06# in the dialer? U still get a imei? Phone for closing is intriqing. Make a nadroid, wipe data/factory reset and format /system as well then reflash ur rom. If ur good after that advance restore the /data from ur nandroid

Hey...I found out why I didn't have service and was able to fix it. When I had flashed AOKP, there is a setting in the Mobile Networks screen to change the CDMA subscription to RUIM/SIM. Somehow (probably playing around) I changed it from the NV to RUIM/SIM. THEN, I nandroided back to stock, and had no service. As far as I know, that CDMA Subscription option isn't on the STOCK ROM...so I was baffled. Good thing I remembered what I did.
Thanks for all of your help.
Can anyone direct me to a link to alleviate an issue with only getting 1x data with AOKP? I can't seem to find a fix for it yet...I think I might not even have data actually...

[Q] Werid issue where my GS3 is stuck in Factory Mode

Let me start by saying I've read through several other threads with a similar issue, but they all have a common connectivity problem that I'm NOT experiencing so I thought I'd ask this in a new thread. I was using AOKP build 5, and I decided to try out a more TW stock rom to see how devs have modified it. I chose Intergalactic v 2.8, wiped data/cache and installed like ya do. Almost immediately I got the pop up saying, "Unfortunately, Factory Test has stopped." I didn't think much of it, even though I had never seen it before. I restored my app data via Titanium Backup and starting fiddling with my settings. Made a couple calls, a few texts. Put my phone down to go about my morning. Later when I went to unlock my phone I realized I don't have a lockscreen. Thought that was funny so I went to boot into recovery but punching the power button just turned the phone off; So I investigated and I realize I'm in factory mode. and I can't seem to get out of it. I've tried running the terminal commands to turn it off, but that didn't work. It looks like my ESF folder is empty or doesn't exist.
So here's what I know after all of my research: My IMEI somehow seems to be intact since I can make calls and get on the network, but because my ESF is empty or gone can't turn off factory mode, which is causing all kinds of other buggy issues such as no lockscreen, no power menu, and the annoying Factory Test pop-up. If there is a thread out there that had a similar problem, I apologize that I couldn't find it. is there any way to recover this info, since the IMEI is still intact? Thanks.

Tried to restore the stock JB with Odin and it didn't fix the problem. I'm attempting to flash the stock ICS, then attempt an OTA update to see if that does the trick. Will keep you posted.
So I flashed ics and then allowed AT&T to push my JB update to me OTA. Still in factory mode. I guess I'll just have to investigate this more thoroughly. I'm using widget locker as a work around for my lockscreen, but still no power menu and the popups are still showing up every now and then. Super annoying, but at least my phone is still functioning. If anyone has any other ideas I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Don't be skittish. It really and truly is the only way to get everything back to how it should be. Ton's of people have tried it and this allows you to push the IMEI back into your phone the way it came from the factory. It's not for spoffing or doing anything illegal.
Now its usually for replacng a lost IMEI from flashing a ROM. Sometimes happens when going from a non-stock type ROM (i.e. CM or AOKP) to stock type ROM (i.e TW)
Search on how to push files with ADB and you should be good to go
BE CAREFUL though and don't skip steps or go fast.
I meant to ask...can you use your phone ? does data work ? Have you tried to get into download mode ?
If you can then download good manager and select reboot into recovery or any other number of apps that let you boot into recovery without having a power menu

Yeah, the phone works perfectly other than a lack of lock screen, no power menu, and the pop ups that annoyingly show every once in a while. Download mode works, and I pushed stock back to my device using ODIN. It now occurs me me to wonder if I might have had a different result if I had flashed my stock rom using ADB.

I tried turning it off with terminal emulator at one point last night, but it didn't seem to work, I THINK because the EFS folder is empty. I'll have to re-root tonight and try it again since I've restored my stock firmware.
It may seem like I'm shooting down every suggestion you guys throw at me, but I really appreciate the input. XDA is a big place and I tried to be very thorough when searcing for a solution before posting this thread, but I'm sure there's something out there I've missed. Thank you for your efforts.

Ah exactly what I have been looking for on this one for you. I found a few that explained how to push your old EFS folder with ADB but none about making another. How crazy it was yesterday it popped up on a post. That looks like your best shot as you folder seems to be corrupted and although IMEI is intact you need a new one folder that is intact. Let us know how it turns out
Can you hit me with the stuff you found about pushing it through ADB? My efforts have been less than fruitful on that front. I'd rather be armed with as much information as possible.

[Q] RhythmicRom v1.4 how to activate phone without Activate or My Account app?

So i made the mistake of doing the HTC ONE V OTA update back in march.
It was the "Software Update: 1.10.652.6 (73.1 MB)".
After doing so i tried to flash a custom rom.
The result was my phone being stuck in a boot loop.
I bought a cheap android phone and switched my number to that phone.
I saw that the RhythmicRom v1.4 worked with the OTA update and so i flashed my HTC ONE V to that rom and it stopped my phone from boot looping and so my phone works again.
My only problem is that for me to switch back to my HTC ONE V is to switch it back though the VIRGIN MOBILE website.
After i switch it tells me i need to use the "Activate" set up wizard.
RhythmicRom removed the "Activate" and "My Account" app.
I also cant use ##VIRGIN# with this rom
My question is, How do i reactivate my HTC ONE V without the "Activate" set up wizard?
I really want to use this rom.
Ive tried to look for ways to do it and tried them but none of them work.
Ive also tried some ## codes but some of them dont work or require some security code.
Is there anyway to reactivate my phone using that rom?
I hope you made backup of your stock. You wil lneed to restore it and flash the stock kernel in fastboot. You will then be able to activate it.
the only backup i have its the one before the update. ive tried to use it before but it just reverts me back to a bootloop. now that my phone had been updated it doesnt seem to work anymore.
I've just added a thread in CDMA development

ok so i tried it. the rom wouldn't work. it has done this with many roms ive tried. it seem the only ones that are working are RhythmicRom_v1.4 & jellybeer. maybe it has to do with the code?
but i tried the boot.img from your rom combined with my backup that i made before the update and it booted up finally without any reboot problems but the wifi had an error in it.
but i then went to reboot to double check to see if it was working it booted past the virgin mobile part (with the people dancing) got to the htc logo and it wouldn't go past that.
when i tried to use you're rom it would come up as "Failed" i dont think the code is compatible with my phone.
What version recovery are you using... I'll look into it
im using TWRP 2.5.0.0
Down grade to the one I have posted in the 3rd post in CDMA development thread
---------- Post added at 11:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:15 AM ----------
2.5.0.0 will always say failed because it's trying to format a partition or your sdcard that does not exist
i will try it out thanks!
Welcome
so i tried flashing twrp v2.2.0 and for some reason it wont mount my sd card so it cant read it at all.
Do you have ADB checked under settings?
---------- Post added at 03:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:01 PM ----------
P.S. whenever you are in fastboot mode send command
fastboot erase recovery (press enter)
You'll probably get an error but move on and send command
fastboot erase cache
Now send command
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
This should give you a clean install of your recovery
If the problem persists, I'll take down the link for the TWRP 2.2.0 in my thread
when i got my phone, i went and tinkered with everything and had a custom rom on there before i got a chance to activate it as well, i ended up RUU'ing back to stock to activate, then going to a normal rom, ever since then, i've never needed to go back... hope this helps!
How do I get into settings?
And to the other person, with the new ota update ruu won't work with my phone.

I'm pretty sure I have it set up properly. I haven't had a problem with it yet. I just didn't know there was a way to fully wipe the recovery. Thanks for that info. Next time I have internet I will try it out. For now I'm stuck using this rom. it works pretty good just a bit buggy.

I don't have any problems on the artmod Rom. I fixed the data by using the apn fix and sideloaded the Sprint data flashed and saved!! Perfectly working phone!! Better than stock!! The only thing that doesn't work is the data icon on the quick settings won't lite up blue. And I can't get to network settings. Do you have a fix for that? Please help. Also I might addI flashed this by using framaroot and freegee!! No computer!!???. You're Rom is so much better than anyone else's for optimus g!! And the g3 UI is by far the prettiest and most functional out of all phones!!

I still did it. It did not help! Network always disappears, then reappears on the short-lived. APN settings always flies. I save, get out of them. Then again, I go and see what my options are not present. Field clean.

Download "quick shortcut maker and search Network in the app. The second option under phone is Network settings. Choose that and select create shortcut. It will create a shortcut to network settings on your home page. I posted a picture of the app somewhere in the artmod thread as well as the GEE3 port thread.

Thanks will try now.

Thanks I found it cool. I need the link for the 5.3.1 ota fix. The link is broken. It keeps sending me to sound cloud.

Does the OTA not work? Go to the OTA app on your phone and find the update, it will let you download it and then you can flash it from recovery.

I've downloaded the latest version update a fresh wipe and install and now I'm getting a no service msg. It's said no SIM So now I have no service. Everything was fine before this. What do you recommend?
---------- Post added at 01:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:10 PM ----------
Downloaded the latest update and no service msg now and also won't read SIM. Had to flash previous version 5.2.1 which has no SIM problems but quite a few bugs. Is there a fix in the works? The first 5.3.1 version worked flawlessly.

What do you mean the first 5.3.1 version? Also, Take the build.prop from the 5.2.1 and replace it in the 5.3.1 The reason you get that is because there are mods in the build.prop to be able to use on the ls970, but when you flashed the "official" update it wrote over the build.prop mods we did.
KwakuIsrael
Can you send me a link with the 5.2.1 build props and a new 5.3.1 zip. I don't know how to flash seperately. Thanks for being so helpful. I haven't flashed a Rom since froyo gingerbread days on my old LG optimus v lol. And thanks Art for the best Rom running right now. Also the links are down. They are taking me to sound cloud. And the ota isn't moving either.

Thanks now let me get to it.

I don't have the rom but I might be able to make you a flashable zip for the build.prop. Not today though. Maybe tomorrow. But all you really have to do is make a backup (just copy it somewhere else or pull it from /system inside the zip of 5.2.1 or the one from this thread) and then replace the one in the new update with the backup, and set the permissions the same as they were, reboot, and bam.
Here, I attached a 5.3 update (don't have 5.3.1) with the same build.prop with an updated custom OTA. It says 5.3 and is 5.3.
Flash this over the artmod rom.

Did you attempt to relock the boot loader? Check out the softbrick thread, that should get you up and running. You'll need to flash a bin file using lgnpst and that's easy to install. Everything is in the soft brick thread.
Thanks the other way was far to complicated!! Plus I couldn't understand dudes accent!!? I'll have access to laptop in morning. I have the 5.3 to reflash but I'll have to flash 5.2 first because I bricked the phone before you sent me the link. Thanks so much my buddy!!

Ha ha. What's the other way? Did you fund a YouTube video?
Here's the thread I meant if you didn't find it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230106
The other way was the long way flashing back to stock. Sorry I been gone so long had a lot of personal issues!! Thanks for all your help and fast response!! One important question for you my friend!!? What do you type in the command prompt to get teeny bin started?? I can't get back into recovery mode unless I have the right command to type & it's not in any of the you tube videos!! I see the art mod Rom is all the way up to 5.4 now. I know my nephew is dying to get his phone back running again. I also had to factory reset my HTC one because I downloaded an incompatible app and couldn't use my internal storage or music pictures movies etc.. Sense toolbox on unrooted phone. Didn't work to well. So therefore I had to start from scratch again!! I also need the Sprint data apk. That's how I got the data working on the optimus g on art mod 5.2!! Works without messing with the apn settings!! So much easier!! It's hard to find everything all over again. Can you please bail me out once more!! I also want to try the art mod Rom for my HTC one m7 as soon as I can find a safe way to root it!! I meant the Sprint data zip not apk.

I see what you mean now, command should be "adb reboot recovery" But I think you need download mode, which is a combination of buttons, not a command. Try pressing volume up and down, holding power, then releasing when the phone flashes. Or hold volume up and power, then when the menu comes up I think you can select "download mode"
I understand the button push part. I was reffering to the part where it' says the phone should reboot at 67% or 83%. That's why I wanted to know what to type in. So do I type in "adb reboot recovery" then run and if that fails do the button press? I just wanted to get get the teeny bin moving. So far I have had it plugged in to download mode not knowing how to proceed from there.

Cm 12.1 vs985 internet issues fixed

I have found a fix around for the internet issue people are having with the new cm12.1 just getting a (!) Symbol by there signal bars or a triangle I have done this on my g3 (vs985)ci have put of on straight talk so who ever put theres on straight talk I no this will work for you just for the people that's on a Verizon plain you can still try it....
1st: boot into your custom recovery and reinstall the cm12.1 DO NOT WIPE ANYTHING then install 5.1.1 gapps once its done DO NOT WIPE ANYTHING (reboot the phone)
2nd: go to settings-networks-click APN of you see the APN that says
(Vzwinternet) <--- just erase the APN and replace it with this ACCT.TF.GW6.VZWENTP
ALL CAPS DO NOT MESS WITH THE PORTS OR ANYTHING ELSE WHEN YOUR DONE TYPING THAT APN SAVE IT AND REBOOT THE PHONE
3RD: give it about 6sec and your LTE should come on if it doesn't go back to APN and just click the APN you modified and then it will come on
***I found this method you may share this post but please give credit to me dmoz15 thank you***
