Samsung people please advise - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the G3 and Ann thinking about switching to the note 4. I swore off Samsung after my SG2, and have stuck strictly Weymouth LG and HTC since. Was gonna try the Turbo but man, it's dim. All that screen and it's horribly dim. Anyway, the Note 4 was b beautiful and bright. Forgive my ignorance, but does note allow you to customize the sms bubbles and backgrounds and such?
sent from my LG G3 Rasputin, by far the BEST phone I've ever owned.

The Verizon Message + app is completely customizable. The stock Samsung is not.

I didnt see where to customize Message+. I was able to change the background and bubbles in the Samsung messages app though.

Actually you can change both the bubbles and background in samsungs app. Your choices are limited, but they do exist.

Technically any phone does. If this is a big deal for you, you can always download a 3rd party messaging app. There are tons out there that may add more functionality than a stock messaging app does. Gosms has to be one of the most customizable out there. Not only that but you can get golauncher and match themes with you icons

This seems very suspicious. Yes, its the real phone, but why the big blank box with the phone already on+manuals missing+tangled up cables?
So technically it IS an unboxing. Just not an official one. I could stick my cat in a box and pull her out and put up a video saying cat unboxing

man, if you want to do a review, go ahead but don't lie or try to deceive us because this would hurt your credibility, if you really care.

It's so freaking smooth. Fast.
I want that browser on my nexus s now.
The camera is soooooo fast omg.
Hhm, the back cover does not appear to be very robust. Looks like it would not survive multiple open/close procedures...

Yes. It is a pre-release preview phone. It's not the final model, of what I understood from the video on and the comments.

What about "Oh. Going to use it a little bit, then put it back in just to show people how it was before."??? If you notice, there was also a huge lack of space management in that box... maybe because there was a battery there before. Think before you talk.

1st: Why the heck you wanna do 1000000 opening/closing procedures in a row?
2nd: It is a preview model, maybe they'll make it more robust in the final model.
3rd: Just be careful with it. End of story. At least it isn't a 99% glass PoS like the iPhone.

I open the back of my Thunderbolt at least once per day to swap the battery. That means hundreds of times per year.

My 4S feels a lot better than my GSII...and it's a "PoS". Dumbass Fandroid. (PS- I love both my 4S and my GSII)
The back case of Desire felt extremely clumsy, but in the end it didn't break. I'm kinda sure the case is same here.

Why would you even think it's an unboxing? Just because he pulled the phone out of a box at the beginning? Or because the thread title says so?
"Recensione" means review, not much unboxing going on there, at least not with the official packaging.

Got a Rent-a-Rezound today

Went in to complain about Verizon handling this launch like a bunch of idiots and the guy offered to let me "rent" a Rezound. I said, well that would be great except I don't want to pay $35 for a restocking fee. He said no problem, we'll waive it.
Suffice to say, I have a Rent-a-Rezound for a week until the Nexus comes out. Glad to finally be off AT&T! Already noticed the better network on the drive home lol
I switched from T-mobile. Definitely better service! I have a Rent-a-RAZR.

I hope millions of people (well, thousands) "rent" devices under the extended exchange process.
And I hope it costs Verizon a lot of money.
Better get the double data now, rent a device now, and take advantage of the Jan 5, 2012 exchange timeframe.
Worth the $35 "punishment" fee, IMO.

Well let's hope they get an update out soon to fix the low volume, slow screen rotation, browser field text input, MTP failure.... Yeah, we can use the updates..
I got a temporary Rezound waiting for the GN too. (I had a GS2 and T-Mo.) All I can say is there's no way I'm trading away the Rezound!
It's a monster even with Red bloat. When root comes, & ICS, even better. I'm keeping the Rezound.

The Rezound, as hard as it is to admit, is a better screen. Higher pixel density than the iPhone 4S. It's the only one that would beat Samsung's offerings, IMO.

That's exactly why I was fine doing this. No $35 restocking fee because I talked the manager into it (and got it in writing), and able to make *absolutely* sure that I get the double-data bonus. 4GB for $30 isn't bad at all!

lol played with the Nexus for 10 minutes and have had this Rezound about 4 hours. I like the Rezound, but the Nexus is *far* better. Smoother, more pure experience (which is huge for those of us that don't like Sense, TouchWiz, and MotoBlur), and better-looking device. I'll say this, I really like the weight and size of the Rezound. It's thicker and heavier, but feels better in the hand. Might pick up the extended battery for the Nexus just to get a bit bigger phone experience.

I'd have to disagree with you on this one. Guessing you had the brightness down on the Galaxy. The screen on the Nexus looks far better, in my opinion. It *does* have the "auto adjust colors" option enabled (and un-modifiable) from the factory, but even with that option it still looks better.

And I actually like this, as well. The Rezound twists and turns immediately...which is kind of annoying when I'm just moving the phone around and the sensor thinks I'm turning it over. It's not like I flip the phone around all the time, but when moving it around in my hand (getting a better grip), it *does* move.
Either way, I loved messing with the Nexus for those 10 minutes. It's a *GREAT* feeling device. Didn't have any problems with it, and that included browsing the web, messing with about 20 different apps, and looking at pictures/videos. I forgot about the no-flash thing for now until I tried loading a speed test, but it's easily gotten around. Adobe should have an update ready in the next few weeks, anyway.

Sprint Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic 4g Touch LCD LED Differences etc.. and issues

here is the desc to a video i put up .. any s2 owner (infact pda) owner should pay attention. .
the issues with the phone and How sprint is Recalling some of these will come in my next video Yes they are Recalling Units For Special Testing>>
Sprint Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic 4g Touch LCD LED Differences etc..
First off the reason i changed out phones.
the phone wouldn't call 911 or anyone else when it doesn’t feel like it.
When you dial 911 it should put the phone in E mode thus full Control and full power and high priority on network.
(ill post a video about that resolution)
In short it just dials hangs up and you do it again till it connects.
IE the transmitter is CRAP
This call failure issue has been going on since this phone came out. (When i got it) but just got worse and worse.
sprint corp sent me this phone not from telesales etc.. (watch the other video that is coming soon about the whys etc of the replacement phones. and you will find that funny as much as interesting.
This Video shows a few things.
there is a HUGE difference in Tolerances for LED and LCD Color Binning Thus the quality of display and photos are not similar from one e4gt to another.
also shows there is something funky about the Automatic Backlight. The Unit Going back dims the LCD to much and is slow to respond to light changes in the room. (this issue was on the China Made S2s not the Korea Made S2s i had 2 of the Koreas and not an issue i had 3 Chinas and there was the isssu.
Also shows the phone going back rebooted by itself (I have seen that before)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoQaj-AM9XY&hd=1
Are you using the phone in stock form? The 911 issue was fixed long ago.
Sent from my Galaxy S II, AOKP style.
wed all like to think/hope that 911 Fix wored.
yes stock rom all current updates applied.
My new phone (left)came from Sprint Corp Inside (like VIP fullfillment) as its ESN is one of the first (Even lower than the one i bought when this first came out)
IE this is stock at the corp office from initial shipment.
(confirmed it was shipped from VIP fullfillment at sprint corp)
right fone is from local store
corp wants my phones for testing and i wasnt going into store to swap so they just pushed a fone from corp LOL>>
the phone has a known issue of not wanting to initilize a outbound call thus you have to redial to get it to go threw
your phone would act like making call then fail out right at 0.01 0.0 seconds
The galaxy s2 has an amoled screen. So it doesn't have a backlight or an LCD a screen.
What are you trying to say here?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
ya when i was doing the video i was basically going over the color binning in lcd, amoled, plasma oled etc...
IE keeping it general. Yes i know these dont have LED backlight However they do still have color bining and so other phone users could understand the binning concept.
my goal here is to let others see that there is color bining and you can get way different screens and LEDs (on the back) that are not the same and can affect color rendering... on the display and recording (if led is to white or yellow )
more of a FYI than any thing else.

Man i been trying to tell people that some epics have extra warm orangish color.
I returned 2 black epics to amazon and echganged it for white one now my screen temperature is cool-white and not yellowish.
I am sure there is a difference in the brightness and color between the displays, but for the really drastic difference with the browser (more than the rest of the UI), you might want to look at the browser settings. That app has brightness settings independent of the brightness in settings for the rest of the UI.

It is fairly common (whether its Epic, Nexus, ET4G) to see inconsistent screens. There are some lemons here and there. Even if you look in the Nexus forum you will see people complaining about Voodoo color settings not looking good and such.

Nah,im trying to say that there was probably a batch of about 1000-10000 defective black epics on amazon,so i figured i take my chances with white one and glad i did because screen is normal and looks better than black one
I remember i had same issue with iphone 3gs,my screen was yellowish and colors looked washed out.So i trade it in for another one and another one. Then reps at apple store pulled some out and they was yellow too.So they was trying to tell me that they are all like that,so i told them to look at phones they had on display, display iphones where all normal. So sense everything they had in stock was with defective yellow screen and people who was buying them just didnt know any better, they had to give me a refund.

Autostarts!

I'm not sure if everybody uses this, but Autostarts is one of my favorite root apps and I recommend it to all of my friends who have rooted. I don't see too many people talking about it anymore so I figured I would remind everyone of this awesome app. It allows you to prevent any apps from running on their own. After using Titanium Backup to debloat my ROM, I then open up Autostarts and run down the list and disable any apps that I don't want to startup without my say so. I did this on my Epic 4G Touch and never needed to flash a single custom ROM because I was able to get the stock ROM running flawlessly. It is an invaluable tool to me and I recommend it highly.

I knew you would come back to the dark side bro.. L o L.. HTC/ samsung/ sony..etc etc.. As long as it's ANDROID..
Good to have ya back..
I always intended on coming back, just needed the right phone and let me tell you, this One X is definitely the right phone. I was really hating that iPhone towards the end, I felt like I was neutered with that infernal thing. It had its merits but just can't compare to a high end android phone. Towards the end? I think I remember you saying you hated it after, like, 3 days, don't I?

The one X looks nice but I have had many a bad and sad experience with HTC. Let me tell ya I went through alot of Htc's.
They did state they were going to concentrate more on the quality not the quantity this year.. We shall see...we shall see. As for me Me wants the SGSIII. WOOT.

Don't even get me started on iTunes. It was the bane of my existence for the entire time I had the iPhone.
HTC definitely focused on quality with this thing. If you have an AT&T store near you I would go check it out, you might be surprised.

Yeah but that was because I was frustrated with it and hadn't gotten used to it yet. I built up a love/hate relationship with it over time, but the love part eventually went sour. I did really love all the games on it, but that only went so far for me. I do think it's a great device, it's just not for me.
I just can't imagine playing games on that tiny little screen... No matter how good they were..
Like I said good ta have ya back Mr Metal.

Me neither. Especially after having the E4GT. I used to love playing games on my iPhone 2g & 3g, over the G1, Hero, or OG Epic. I haven't picked either of them up except to use iTunes while running and to use Sleep Cycle since I bought this phone. The screen feels so tiny, it's hard to imagine using that small screen as long as I did. Lol

Have you try Gemini App Manager? Kinda like Autostarts but better
I've been using autostarts forever, since I had my Samsung intercrap, it was the only thing that would keel that POS above 40mb free ram. Still use it actually have it on every android device I have, Kindle Fire, ET4G, Evo 4g and photon works great especially being able to kill the Widgets I don't use even tho I use the apps they go with, when u disable the widget it removes it from.the widget list so it declutters the menu which is nice

The Note Edge is Not Worth it

After less than 24hrs with the Edge the honeymoon phase is already over, I can honestly say its not worth the extra $200. 24hrs may not seem like a lot of time but I've spent nearly 20 of those hours playing with my phone (you know how it is when you get a new Android.)
After playing with the Edge all day today I really dont think its worth the extra money. Theirs just not enough content for the edge part yet. Some of the panels like the CNN News one don't even work half the time ( its been stuck on loading all day today), I dont like the Yahoo Sports panel because you have to choose a team or teams which makes it useless during your sport's off-season, I just want general sports news (a ESPN sports ticker panel would be awesome), no custom icons, and lastly you cant even choose your favorite apps in all the panels. My goal was to put all my apps on the edge and leave my screens iconless but I am unable to do that because I can only choose my favorites in one panel.
Bottom line the Edge is not worth $200 additional dollars to me & the uncomfortable feel in the hand, it has lots of potential if it gets more support though. I will be returning mine on Monday for a regular Note 4 or Nexus 6, I am going to give it a year or so to see if the edge grows and gets more app support if so I can see myself with a Edge 2.

Sad to hear that. But did you honestly think that you could put ALL your apps on the small side screen? Seriously....I bought mine and am not looking back. This will be the future.

I've known this for months now lol. All novelty and not close to being worth the price tag. And the viewing angle of the edge screen sucks.

Not all my apps but my favorites, each panel holds seven individual apps plus you can create folders in the panel. I agree it will be the future, I'm going to wait a little longer til the edge gets more apps and features.
