Developer Support (lack thereof) for the HTC One E8 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi XDA,
I had debated buying a m8 vs e8 and ended up buying the e8 due to dual SIM necessity for myself .
However, after buying this device, my biggest gripe is that there is absolutely near zero developer love for the e8. [emoji31]
The e8 is basically a m8 stripped of the IR blaster and camera changed. THAT'S IT.
Can the devs at m8 forums please show some mercy to us folks and release a tweaked version of their roms for the e8?<---once again this is a request or plea for some help, and thanks if you took the time to read.
Thanks and please let another xda lover or developer know if this can be done.

It will come eventually. Devs need to actually own/have access to a device to work on it. Most devs have the M8, not the E8.
Patience is needed. There will be something eventually.
Also, google is your friend.
This is what I got from a simple google search (e8 roms).

Thanks for the hopeful words!!
I'll wait for support to build up eventually.
I did a fair bit of googling, and I found ROMS (the precious little available ) are for the China Unicom version - m8sw and these don't work on m8sd. Just my luck eh??

Developers please make ROMs for e8 also...please

Please devs ... Please support m8sd ... We need more roms for this device

I thought every snapdragon device has development. But e8 eventually proved me wrong. No development so far .Not even cm.Even HTC desire 816 got unofficial cm.I m feeling screwed by choosing this device by selling off my canvas 4 which device got cynogenmod (though it is mediatek) and tons of roms.
Devs please have a look on e8.Device is gr8 in all terms but lacking development.
I posted all over xda and official Cynogenmod forum but no response yet.

Because most devs have the M8 and aren't interested in getting the e8 cause it's just not really any upgrade.
So yeah, as said development I'm sure will come, but I'd expect it to be fairly quiet. Won't be near what the M8 development is anyway.
Patience. ?

This won't help. We need to be noticed by the awesome developers on m8 development threads. They won't bother to look into a 'help' thread unless we post on their dev threads and beg them for mercy.

Take it upon yourself and make your own ROM
If you're after a stock rooted ROM then you can do that yourself easily. Then you can add tweaks with sense 6 toolbox and xposed.

Now a days E8 only serving purpose of playing high end games.
As well as their are 2 variants of same model. We have m8sd.so we have to find an Indian developer.:sly:

Begging likely won't help either. If a dev is not internally motivated to make a ROM (usually since they own the device) they usually won't just do so because you beg or request it. You can try to start a bounty to create a monetary motive. But really, your best bet is to make one yourself, as previously suggested.

The only way that will work is you buy and send to them an E8. They can't develop for a device they don't own or have access to.

Unless you're out for the most advanced thing in the world it will be easy. It takes patience but its something worth learning. I tried my hand at it, and since I was helpful around the forums I got help from countless devs (mostly from Team Venom) to learn to do what I wanted.
Although my main interest is themeing, I wanted to make something unique to my device and be able to say yes I did this myself.

Nice. Good luck. Its something I've always wanted to try my hand at, but my personal life (2 kids, including one new baby) just doesn't presently support it. There are a number of good guides on XDA, easily found by searching. This one caught my eye in particular, as it refers to MIUI, and is also very current and updated:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2769142

The only thing I called it my custom rom is to root it and delete some bloatware. LOL

Any E8 rom please? :C

[REQUEST] AOSP Android 4.0.4 | Stock look, feel, colors | Softbuttons

Hi guys,
I really like this new phone from HTC and I'm seriously considering of buying it. However, even with all the ICS improvements, I still like the original and pure googlish android 4.0 experience more than the new sense. Do you think that a fast, clean and smooth pure-ICS rom will be avaiable soon on the HTC One X? You know...I think HTC published a lot of drivers these days, so I assume it wouldn't be too difficoult to build a clean and simple ICS rom from sources...
Anyway, I hope the answer to this topic will come as a new thread containing directly some interesting download links ;D
Thanks!
A pointless thread in the Developement forum.
I'm sure we will se a CyanogenMod ROM but not because of your request..

You aren't funny. At all. I come from a wonderful experience within the Nexus development area of xda (I've got a N1), and I wanted to start sharing some ideas here in the mind of getting this HTC in the near future. I guess some people here think to be god only for the higher experience or...whatever, and they enjoy themselves answering like as more as possible.
Overall...yes, you've got a result now. I'll probably get a Galaxy Nexus, but surely not for sense-related tastes... just to avoid the need of talking again with people like you. You could have answered "surely CyanogenMod will fit your needs, buy this awesome device and you won't wait long! ;D", and you would have even so 'closed' the request, but with a smile.
A word is enough to the wise
I don't think you're wise enough anyway. You're spamming answering like that, not me. I've made an answer. Nothing forbidden or...whatsoever.
p.s.:CyanogenMod is still unavaiable for many devices that have gingerbread/ICS very well-developed from other devs. Usually, CM comes months after a stable release (official or not) has been shared. On the N1, we've ICS fully working (incl. HWA), and CM devs said we won't get their 'v.9' almost surely.
That's all.
EDIT: I think people should ask about future developments...to developer. Why should I be answered from the 'general section' users? Why should they know if developers are now or are planning of working on a pure ICS release??

[info] Basic Informations about HOX, sense and the universe

Hy community,
I once was a newbie on XDA (and still am ^^), but with the time I understood more and more things, now I want to give back and condensate the Information I got to answer questions I see often in multiple threads.
there are more and more questions about sense and roms and SOFF and if your phone can control your mind if you take an image of a brain as your wallpaper...
So here is the
officially unofficial "Question's you better not ask"
thread.
Feel free to add your 2 cents in the comments, I will try to keep this updated with your ideas
The goal of this thread is to inform the users, in order to avoid them asking those things and getting angry answers or blocking real dev work on threads.
Does this AOKP/CM9/AOSP Rom have sense ? :silly:
Click to collapse
No ! It's like if you were asking if Linux has windows in it, if a Ferrari has a Dacia in it...
Explanation : Sense is a framework, it's like wrapped over the android OS. AOKP/AOSP/CM9 based roms are free of this framework and based on the original google android source code.
In the same idea, a sense rom doesn't contain CM9, but you can make it look like with themes or a "de-sensing".
For this exact reason, you need to wipe your phone before installing a non-sense rom over a sense one (or the other side) (even if you should wipe when going from one rom to another, sense or not.
Does this AOKP/CM9/AOSP rom contain the sense cam

No, It has to do with what is written in the first explanation.
Explanation : Most sense apps and widgets are linked to the sense framework, some more, some less, making it theoretically possible to port those apps to a fully sense framework free environement. However, the camera is solidely attached to the framework, it may be possible, but don't hope for it soon
Can I flash the boot.img from "rom A" on "rom B" ?
Click to collapse
And still the answer is : NO ! you will end in a bootloop.
Explanation : The Boot.img contains many stuff like kernel, ramdisk... and this ramdisk is different for most of the rom's and a boot.img will only fully work with an adequate ramdisk.
However, you can repack the kernell with the zImage tool which is to be found in the forums.

It's obvious you've spend 'a lot' of time with the intro of this thread.
But all you write is old news as all is written already, 'instructions enough'.
To my opinion this thread won't help anybody because people who don't like to read won't read anyway,
so this thread is another clutter, nothing more to my opinion as it don't bring anything new.

When I started on XDA I was searching for a recap like this, people not wanting to read throught hundreds of pages of a well-filled thread is not meaning they won't read a recapitulative thread...
Is a post trying to help others such a pain for you ? If this can help one person and avoid a single useless post on a single thread I will be more than happy.
I hope you can revise your judgment...
You just created a extra thread, nope I won't revise my statement.
Probably you have good intensions, but to my opinion this thread is clutter and a waist.

I agree. This is the strangest forum I've participated in on XDA. Here's some personality categories I’ve observed.
* Narcissist’s - in spite of a topic or point being posted multiple times in an already open thread, people feel that they're experiencing of an issue is somehow more important than anyone/everyone else's. They have no problem starting a new thread saying "I know this has been posted before, but..." Hint: before you post, ask yourself are you posting for the benefit of others or for yourself?
* Newbies with Attitudes - Not picking on this user in particular but this is an excellent example.
RADLOUNI said:
I am totally furious about the fact that HTC released an ICS phone with a GB kernel. Sorry if it sounds negative but this is plain deception, and disrespect to its base of customers. Other vendors without mentioning the name has released their phone with a decent ICS kernel.

Not only is it naive, it's wrong. Had it been posted as a question "what's the difference between the 2.X and 3.X kernel?" the poster would have realized s/he's uninformed. Hint: instead of coming out with both guns blazing, ask a question rather than making a statement if you're not sure about what you're talking about.
* Martyrs - Yes, the One X has launch issues. More than it should. They're all well known by now. Similar to the narcissists, the martyrs relish reiterating the same complaints amongst themselves in page after page in a thread. Hint: No one here can help you. Rather than ***** pointlessly figure out how to get your problem resolved. I'm not having any problems but it took me all of five minutes to find the two most senior HTC execs in Europe that oversee customer service so those with issues could have someone to write to and seek help. Hint: Don't just post "*****es," post potential remedies.
There are other personality categories unique to the One X forum but you get my point. I love my One X but sure wish it came with SGS3 forum.

A RUU is the full ROM installation utility from HTC, using it will fully reset your phone to the same state when you bought it (only thing it won't change is the fact your phone is locked/unlocked if I remember well), can't tell you what it wouldb be in Samsung-land ut probably samsungs Odin flashable base rom.

LOL I clearly remember when Shaky appeared on the Desire forums before the device was bought, there was this guy from DHD forum who commented " Oh shaky you're now here! After shaking a lot and not baking anything in the DHD" .. hahaha.. I feel really sorry for all of you who kept saying"oh shaky plz do sense 4 for us and you're god and what not!" All rubbish..
What I find hard to understand that why would a dev never talk about what's working and what's not behind the scenes ??? Not even in dev forum? People stopped writing in dev as per his request.. what happened at the end ???
All bull****! I'm not saying that he can't do something, only he knows better, but the way people have been treated in his forums are disgusting.. it never happened in threads in the likes of leedroid or coolexe etc.. everyone was given a chance to express and be heard..
I feel these new so called dev are "noobs" than normal users the people are maintaining their threds

yes, I want them to talk about it, and omg, they were locked because Shaky wanted it, not moderators (except of some warnings in development thread). If it was because he did not want to read about it or any other reason, it does not matter, I just don't want this topic to die (when still some hope is alive, maybe).
Back to topic, in Droid Incredible forum I have read that PureMotive had some talk with Shaky and sbryan like 4 days ago and that guy sbryan is most probably looking into that audio issue... we will see
Conclusion : leave shaky alone, he's working hard for us and there is no need to make him under pression.
About this topic, mmmh ... too words, not enough acts ?
To me this thread looks like disrespect to shaky coz he closed two of them already clearly for a reason.
And now again will be the same everybody taking and nobody can actually provide even a simple logcat, you know how many tutorials with step by step explanations have been posted on xda lately for everything: porting ics, compiling kernel, compiling roms from source, kernel optimizations, modding, etc do why non of the talkatives take some time off their life and start working on porting sense 4 and/or kernel 3.0? Seriously this thread would be so much productive rather than waiting and pushing one person to the edge?m?
Does it make sense?
If I had time to waste for ungrateful users I'd work on this myself- however real life and work for now are more important to me.but I bet if any of you read the tutorials and got to know insides of android you could port it yourself. Even DK and Sandvold and Sebastian started like this by experimenting.

When shaky was soliciting donations to buy his Desire you just had to check his history here at XDA to realize he is a prima donna that will probably let you down (if you chipped in for his phone). As the saying goes...he's all hat but no cattle. So I stayed well away.
Now, when laidbacknikez was doing the same (getting donations to buy a new Desire for developing) I did donate to him. He not only sent out a personal thank you note, he has delivered a fantastic ROM in spades...and I would bet he will give us Jellybean a well.

everyone should just LEAVE IT unless they are going to help out with something productive.
if you compared the Nexus One thread and the Desire thread for the same shaky dev thread and the nexus one had like 3 pages, while the desire had about 100 in a short space of time.
I know people are excited and stuff but try and keep it to yourselves unless you have a bugreport or something useful to contribute.
in the meantime enjoy Gingerbread or ICS AOSP on your desire.

One more thing I don't understand, if this is called 'FORUM' it's made to be written in it, so why some of us think that it shouldn't?

Let it go man. If we can't make people stop creating threads to discuss what is the best rom of them all, we can't stop this thread too. :silly:

Just curios...Why not more ROM development?

I understand at least the T-mobile variety has an unlocked bootloader, and we have root for all, so why aren't we seeing a bit more action in the development section(s)?
I am not a developer just an avid flasher, so I am not keen on what makes one platform more attractive to developers but it seems to be a very popular phone. If this is a dumb question, flame away...
Just wondering out loud...
thanks,

I just think other devs have a different device and arent interested in the G3 currently.. Hopefully that will change soon

We could do that, I know jcase is having a bounty for the international version of the G3 (see thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/bounty-lg-g3-d855bootloader-unlocking-t2807900)
maybe we should get him a T-Mobile G3 and have him make a ROM.
It would be cool if the tmobile g3 begins rom development now until all other variants get their bootloader unlocked. That way we wont loose much time.

[Q] sprint port to t mobile

Is that gonna be coming or is everyone gonna wait for t mobile?
The sprint variant of the LG G3 is a cdma device and therefor is very different from ours. The devs aren't going to attempt to port a rom that will end up broken and non functional when we have an official release on the way. If youd like to give it a shot there are a number of resources on xda that can teach you how to build roms and to port them from other devices.
I'm well aware of the resources here at xda, that wasn't my question your obviously not a dev so don't answer something you're not qualified to think you know. Ty

Why dont you just post requirements of person need to reply your post ?
This is community , over here we share ideas and give our opinion.
You seems new too because you posted question on general section. Mod please lock the thread or move.
He gave you a legit answer. Nobody is gonna waste time attempting a sprint port when we know ours can drop any day. If they were going to attempt a port they would grab the att one anyways, since it is also a gsm device. However all the various G3 versions are oddball enough on hardware to really make any reliable port. Just too much that would be broken to be worth it.
I personally don't care if you been around since XDA was a baby, your reply was pretty dickish for the info that was supplied to you.

You should be aware that your question makes no sense. Stop being a douche bag and be thankful someone actually took the time to reply to your dumb question.
