Hi everybody,
i just bought a smartwatch 3 and i just don't get how to activate the wifi, i searched everywhere but no information.. even to activate or desactivate nfc to save battery but i cant find th options..
if anybody can help...
thank you

WiFi is not enabled until Google releases a version of Android Wear that supports it.
The same for NFC, it's active but only limited functionality available right now.

This is great news to hear! Can I ask for the source?

SOURCES
You see here WiFi Ready:
Play Store https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=sony_smartwatch_3_black
Sony Developers Product White Paper: http://dl-developer.sonymobile.com/documentation/whitepapers/SmartWatch3_SWR50_WP_1.pdf
Verizon, Technical Specs http://www.verizonwireless.com/accessories/sony-smartwatch-3/ also in "FEATURES" it states "Wi-Fi ready (these features to be activated after launch, timing to be announced per Google)"
...And I posted official test documents in this forum proving it has WiFi

and the wait is almost over!!!
Been a long time in the making but finally:
Wi-Fi support
With GPS and offline music support, you can already leave your phone at home, then go jogging and jamming like normal. Now Android Wear supports watches with built-in Wi-Fi. As long as your watch is connected to a Wi-Fi network, and your phone has a data connection (wherever it is), you’ll be able to get notifications, send messages, and use all your favorite apps. And if you really do forget your phone, you can always ask your watch where it is.

Is the wifi feature properly working? How will I know if the wifi feature is working? does this mean i can turn off bluetooth on my phone and have the smart watch still work?

The latest update to the Wear app now includes the Wi-fi functionality however, I could not get it to work. Has anybody else had any better luck

You still need to receive the Smartwatch upgrade (watch itself)

It should be out in the next couple of days or weeks. Just keep checking the Sony companion app.

Is there a Sony companion app for the SW3? I normally just check under settings on the watch itself.

yeah for windows though

when I first bought my SW3, I received a firmware upgrade notification. I was able to update it thru the watch itself connected to my phone,

I didn't know there was any NFC functionality yet. What is currently usable for NFC?

I think the only thing NFC on the watch can do is open the app on your phone. Apart from that it's useless.

You can use NFC to pair headphones with your watch, I pair my sbh-80 headphones this way

Has anyone received the wifi update yet?

Thanks. I just found on another thread that it also starts up the watch when it's off. I tested it and that works and is pretty cool that NFC works when the watch is off, though I have doubts there will be many possibilities of using NFC with the watch off.

NFC can be somewhat powered by the reading device, so I thought I'd give this a try to see if it was enough to wake the watch up and power on. I turned my watch off, and tapped it to the NFC location on my phone. The phone launched the Android Wear companion app. The watch and phone both vibrated, and the "Sony" logo appeared on the watch then disappeared without ever finishing booting. I tried leaving it on the phone, and it buzzed a few times trying to start.

How does it behave without a BT connection?

Work no longer let's us carry our phones with us there for the 360 will spend a lot of its time with no phone connection. I'm assuming it will still keep time? I only ask because an early Sony smart watch couldn't. What else? Can you still set timers use the stop watch? Can you use apps that don't require Internet connection like a calculator?
Anyone?
I don't have one but if it's like the g watch you will be able to still use the functions you asked about.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
That's what I would expect.. But you never know these days. I just didn't want some usless brick that says please sync all day.
Thanks
Yes, I can still check the time, set a timer, use the stop watch, etc. I haven't found a calculator app that works on the round display, yet.
It seems like voice recognition doesn't work, but anything you can run from the menu does. So you can set an alarm, timer, etc, though you have to use the touch interface which may not be as flexible.
I hope they give the option for offline voice recognition at some point. I think it would be very advantageous to be able to do basic tasks like setting reminders, alarms and creating notes etc. these could easily then sync once the phone is reconnected. There's no hardware reason why this wouldn't be possible it will just require implementation.

Also, if you put it in airplane mode, it doesn't even give you the voice prompt screen... instead it immediately shows the list of activities / apps you can do. Voice on that screen does not work at all. Too bad!

I'm pretty sure this is not possible. When you first take it out of the box, it asks for a language, after selecting one, no swiping, tapping, or anything else can get it from a screen saying to download the Wear app on your phone. It simply will not do anything until it does.
That's my experience, anyway. I couldn't get anything until my phone synced.

Yeah I talked to motorola customer service and they said that it won't ask that if it doesn't detects a android phone nearby. Hope this is true.
You have access to all of your watch apps like still. All apps that depended on your phone (like google now) won't work anymore. Basically what you'd expect.

How would WiFi work?
To get data from your smartphone you need to do what? WiFi is usually turned off on the Smartphone.
Do they plan on letting your watch hit WiFi access points, solo (no smartphone)?
If they do I wonder if there will be a keyboard to enter passwords to access secure WiFi? (I do know you can sideload a keyboard)
Also the battery life on this device is the best I seen but it is not great.
Got to effect the battery.

Good question. My original thought would be that it would connect to your home wifi or whatever you want to connect to. Or it could be your phone I guess as well. Either way, wifi offers greater range than bluetooth and I can't wait for this release. Maybe wifi will only turn on when bluetooth disconnects as it thinks you're out of range. But also have a option to have it on all the time. We will see.
WiFi Direct
My assumption is that, since the device supports Bluetooth V3, it will use WiFi direct for faster transfers between phone and watch. With the lack of a keyboard on the device (which I would describe as a lack, actually) nothing else makes sense. And in that case MP3 files or other stuff can be transferred much more quickly. Also, installation of APK´s and such can be done via WiFi direct.
But we will wait and see. According to the article, many more devices actually have a dormant WiFi module, as WiFi is built-in to the SnapDragon 400. The question is whether or not the manufacturer included an appropriate antenna complex in the device.
Maybe it can stay tethered when on the same Wi-Fi as your phone. That would be killer...I don't carry my phone around the house.

I'm really hoping that it google stalks the xda forums because I'm really hoping that the WiFi function works as follows.
You leave your phone at home. Your watch goes out with you.
It finds a recognised WiFi hotspot outside and it automatically connected to it and to the internet.
It seeks out your phone at home and syncs with it getting all your stuff pushed to you watch. Now that's a true smart watch.

Indeed. I will have NFC tags all over the place once this gets activated. Nightstand, the inside of my car door, laptop, desk, girlfriend.
They really should make NFC a priority to beat Apple to it, though, before their watch comes out.

The way I would do it is to simply have the saved WiFi networks list from you phone be synced up with the watch via bluetooth. And to save battery, only have the watch look for one of these WiFi networks IF it loses the bluetooth connection with your phone. Not sure if that's how it would work, but that would make sense to me. That way, it's seemless, requires little or no user input, and notifications just work, regardless of whether phone is in range or not.
aaaand here it comes:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...te-with-wifi-support-always-on-apps-and-more/
Hopefully the roll out is pretty quick! Can't wait to have the wifi feature.
They say over the coming weeks.. i wouldn't hold my breath for anything quick...
(Though, i am sure it will be here before the long forgotten replacement bands for the watch... )
EDIT: Two other features not mentioned in the first article: http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...djustable-font-size-and-pop-up-notifications/

Won't stay connected

Just got this watch. I had the Moto 360 before, it worked fine.
This doesn't want to stay connected. I have to reset the watch, uninstall Android Wear and re-install it, then it'll connect once. After that, it disconnects and won't connect again. So notifications, syncing, weather, etc don't work.
Looking at my phone in Android Wear it just says Connecting.... on the watch, it says disconnected. Going into Bluetooth settings doesn't do a damn thing either.
Try Bluetooth Auto Connect from Playstore, it´s working for me on a Note3 with Omega Rom
Thanks for the reply. I managed to sort it out... I missed the step to click "trust device" during the initial set up. I didn't realize that was a necessary step for the watch to stay connected. You'd think it'd just do it automatically.
I don´t know, if it´s automatic, but i have the function with klicking on "trust device", no change, only the "Blutetoot Auto Connect" app is working.
This piece of crap is doing it again. Once its been disconnected, it won't connect again without complelety startinh over and resetting everything.
I'll check out that app.
You know, people can bash apple all they want, but at least their **** actually works properly.
Hasn't happened in a while, but if mine won't connect I just go to the android wear app and disconnect the Zenwatch then connect again. Works every time...
Tried that, many times.. never works. That app doesn't work either.
Well this is a serious problem I've had the watch for about six weeks now it took awhile to get initial set up to begin with I was at the point to return it on the first day , then I don't know how but it just paired and started working fine , I was very happy until today turned the watch on it wasn't paired and I've literally been trying for hours to get this chit to connect with no luck I've reset it ,tried the app mentioned above no luck at this point I give up I bough it at best buy but I'm past the return period I'm going to try and find some customer service rep ,at this point I give up trying to get the watch to work,if anyone knows of a customer service phone number I would greatly appreciate it , or if anyone here has any helpful information , ,I'm pretty tech wavy. But I surrender at this point what a shame I really liked the watch but the aggravation factor is to much ,sorry for the.long rant but there's no where else to vent or look for help maybe together as a group we can find some answers again any help would be greatly appreciated......

Go to settings / apps on your phone. Find google play services under running apps. See if device connection service is running. If not try rebooting your phone then the watch in that order and try to pair. You could also check if there is an update for play services and update if there is.

Same issue here, boxing up my ZenWatch and bringing it back to Best Buy today. Still within the 15 days. I really like the watch but these random disconnects are a killer. Most of the time it auto-reconnects but every now and then I have to reboot everything--which is kinda ridiculous if I'm out running.
At least I'll have a different watch with everything else the same for comparison sake and report back.
Have you tried uninstalling zenwatch manager? Mine started disconnecting after the last update, and uninstalling seems to have fixed my issue
Sent from my SM-N900P using XDA Free mobile app
I had the same problem I think the update from google services broke it.
unpair the watch from your phone then factory reset the watch and this is IMPORTANT pair your watch using "android wear" NOT the Bluetooth from the system phone
after I paired my watch using Android Wear now the watch stay connected and reconnect normally

After half a day working this seems to be the solution, thanks. :good:
Bad luck: two days later same problem persists (frequently disconnecting)
I am getting pretty tired of my Zenwatch not staying connected either. $200 is a lot of money for a watch that doesn't work right. It's had three or four updates since I bought it and it still sucks, should have sent it back the first week.
The Google nag to enable Google Now in the Android Wear screen is also a sore spot with me, if I wanted it enabled it would be enabled.
This whole "wearables" thing seems to be a poorly executed fad more than anything else, one that I'll be avoiding from here on out.
why would you have a watch that relies so heavily on google now and not enable it? connection has been just fine for me no several phones and software versions since I got it in January

Same here. I mean, it has disconnected maybe 3 times since I got it in November, but it hasn't been a big issue. Toggling BT on the phone reconnected it. I also agree with you about Google Now. It's central to how Wear works. Using a Wear device without Now would be like buying a car and trying to drive it without starting the engine.

You don't need Google now to benefit from owning this watch.
1. I like the ability to change watch faces and create my own with Watchmaker.
2. I can answer or dismiss a call from the watch.
3. Text and email notifications.
That's all I care about, anything else is an unnecessary distraction.

Google has released Android 6.0 for Wear..keep an eye out

Yep, so glad! Doze should be awesome for our watches. Hopefully some of us get it soon.

Waiting for Sony, except with wear it does not take that long as google didnt allow much modifications . days or weeks, not months before it gets through Sony

You don't have to search for it, you'll get a notification card on the watch. The phone app actually isn't involved in the process (just as the pipe if your watch is connnected via bt), it is downloaded straight to the watch. But google says you do need to have the current phone app (updated Jan 26).

Spotify not working

Got the watch to replace my LG watch sport. Love wear os, hate all hardware it comes in. I honestly don't really like tizen but I literally cannot find any other watch that will last more than 10 hours and has Lte, so galaxy watch it is.
One of the biggest problems so far is streaming. I don't get it. Wear os has all sorts of options for this, google play music, pandora, last fm... I was doing great with pandora premium and youtube premium (with google play music included). But now that im on the galaxy watch they're doesn't seem to be a way to stream without the phone nearby. No pandora app at all, obviously no Google play music app since Google is a bratty teenager these days, the only 2 things that seem to be available are tidal (lol not on a million years) and spotify.
So I download the spotify app for the watch... Wait no I didn't, it doesn't exist on the store despite multiple advertisements I watched making a point of it. Looking into the forums turns out Samsung has since hidden the spotify app god knows why. So after a few days of complaining online I find a direct link to the galaxy store spotify page. Great! Now I installed it. And open it up... Can't connect to phone, please open spotify app on phone... It says this as I'm staring at my phone automatically open spotify... Ok, close the watch app, open it again now that the app is already open on the phone. Can't connect to phone please open the spotify app... Weird, manage to dismiss the warning. I'm presented with 3 options, steam on wifi, stream on lte, and remote. Knowing the first two require spotify premium I try the last option. Nothing, literally nothing, it's like the button isn't even there, no haptic feedback, no warnings, nothing.
Ok, remote isn't why I wanted a watch anyway, my end goal is to run with JUST my watch. So since I'm financially well enough I decide to get premium to use the other options. So I upgraded to premium spotify, made sure it was premium on the phone by playing specific songs, and im good to go right? Wrong! Even though I reinstalled the watch spotify app, remote doesn't change its behavior. So I try wifi, it asks for user and password. I painfully enter it with the flip phone style keyboard aaaaand? Failed to log in, try multiple times very carefully to no avail. Same story on lte button. At this point I'm so mad streaming music is the main reason I want an lte compatible watch!
So... Am I doing something wrong? Is spotify to blame? Or samsung? Still have a few weeks before my return window expires, any help or info would be greatly appreciated.
I'm on a note 9 for the phone
My spotify is through a Facebook account
I have cell service on the watch from tmo
You need to use the Spotify ID to connect, not the Facebook login, it wasn't working for me. Just go to Spotify settings on a browser and set up a device password to make it work.
Today, Spotify has been upgraded to the watch (not a little trouble). For the time being, it looks like all the functions are working again. Check out the Galaxy Store.:good:
Seems to be working only on Samsung phones though. I don't see the Spotify app in the Galaxy store (Belgium / Pixel 3 XL). Just got the watch yesterday, loving the hardware, software not so much at this point...

It could be a store location or a watch region issue, you could ask samsung support to see why and if it's a store location use a vpn and try to download it or if it's the watch change the region if it's a big deal for you.

Yes you can change the region of the watch but you should know that doing so it will only allow Samsung Pay cards of that country and for some it's a must have.
Before you do anything you should check what region you want to add and find the code for it, because the region names are just 3 letter codes and it's hard to know what is going on when selecting the code(there are a lot of them) and you don't want to spend hours guessing to change it to a new one. And before you change the region write down the one your watch came with so you can go back if you need it or want it later down the line.
The first step is to download SDBstarterKidv1.zip from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74585286&postcount=330
Then you follow the steps in here(it says gear sport but it works fine on galaxy watch).
Also when it says "debugging mode on" you need to select it on the watch and restart it so it works.

In the meantime you can use the stock music player on the watch to control Spotify from the phone, and also just about any music app on phone.

I don't use Bluetooth headphones so I can't help you with that unfortunately, I use wired earphones

Has anyone noticed the battery consumption of Spotify on the Galaxy Watch SM-R815F?
I went for a 30 min run today. I played music with Spotify offline. Battery dropped from 93% to 70% during the run. According to the battery monitor Spotify accounted for 17% of those 23% (the rest was screen, S Health and Strava).
17% battery consumption for 30 min of music seems quite high to me? Or is that normal?
I haven't tested the normal music app to compare. I assume bluetooth takes some battery but still.
