Sprint No contract S3 unlock - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Can this phone be unlocked and used on different network ? specifically international networks ?

Since Sprint is CDMA, not even sure if they have a sim slot .. it says no contract phone ...

No it cannot be. There is no sim slot at all. You may be able to put it on straight talk or pageplus, but I have no idea if you could put it on any other cdma network. To my knowledge most other countries use gsm over cdma.

The only one I know that does allow sprint devices, is ting

Freedom pop is garbage. It's all voip. Even with strong 4g, the call quality is terrible, and it all barely works. Ting is the only one that's a normal service.

I agree, but some people don't talk on the phone much... Just throwing it out there, especially because they are the only ones to have a completely free plan.

True. But ting scales depending on your usage. Although I wish it was unlimited everything.. Just can't afford a new $300 unlocked phone to go to another company. So stuck with ting

Same here, but right now I'm alright with that... Especially if we're getting official 4.4.4 soon.

vs.
Spec wise both phones are identical
the only real difference is that one has the t-mobile & Samsung logo in the front, and the other only has the Samsung logo
the tmo version also has a tmo customized boot animation, the telus version is plain samsung boot animation
tmo verison has extra tmo broadware apps, the telus version has only one extra broatware (Groupon)
which would you go for?
will you pay the extra $ for the unbranded version?
The one with bloatware crap that might get WiFi calling at some point.
I like the telus one less branding and bigger space to press the capacitive buttons. The Bloat can be removed with root. I wonder when samsung going to drop source code for this phone. Sprint and At&t already versions already have source code slightly before phones come out. Android police and engadget have already reviewed the tmobile samsung galaxy 2.
Why not just wait on the HD version of the phone? Although I'm not sure when that will be out.

the HD version is not AWS compatible
Hmm well do you really want to pay $150 more for the branding because everything else will go away when rooted

Save the extra dough and put it towards something else to play with and go for the Tmo version.

wow, if it weren't for the galaxy note coming out, I would definitely get the T-mobile version.
Really good pricing
go with the Tmobil version!!
People are saying the battery life is the worst on the t-mobile galaxy 2. I think its all that badly programmed bloatware on that phone. Also the phone is taking in lte speeds which means the phone uses more power to pull in data. It shows to say lte is over hyped. I think the adreno 220 is overclocked in this phone as well.
Good thing you can usually turn 4g off...
root will be around fast enough ...hell if they can unlock a phone on this site before the actual compny that produces it can i think root will be attainable in no time. save the money and get the tmo version. you can always call tmobile and have it unlocked for free

But hspa+ is 3g so if you turn it off you get edge. Ironically edge speeds on tmobile are faster than at&t 3g speeds.

Will a t989d work in the states?

I have an unlocked telus t989d
I will be moving to the states in a few months and i'm wondering if this phone will work on any network in the states. and if so, which network will it work on?
Thanks
Probably AT&T and Tmobile, as they carry identical phones except the AT&T version has LTE. The T-Mo ver is the same thing, but im guessing you could flash a t-mobile modem just to be sure.
Someone with more experience might know better though.
our phone woks on any cell provider in the world except JAPAN, just plug in a SIM card from your favourite local provider where you gonna be staying during the vacation / visit
Would it still be possible to flash an AT&T modem and just use their 3G network instead of the LTE? Just in case you're moving into
a more rural area where T-Mobile doesn't have acceptable coverage.
SGS2 T989 on Synergy kernel with beastMOD
I'm a quick learner, teach me something.
T-Mobile will be your best call since the phones are exactly the same in specs and radios, if you go to AT&T you won't get 3G coverage only 2G.

that is 200% incorrect
the T989 can get 3G/4G on any HSPA provider, except CDMA

+1 Confirmation as to what AllGamer says; I use an unlocked SGH-T989 on AT&T and get 3G/HSPA speeds. The icon just stays as 3G on stock rom.

Can Sprint update their SGS3 to have global roaming like VZW will do?

I just bought a Photon, which I only did because it is an international capable phone. I know Verizon is going to unlock global roaming, and they're CDMA like Sprint. Is the hardware inside the devices the same? Would it theoretically be possible that Sprint could issue a software update to add global roaming capabilities to their Galaxy SIII? I'm considering replacing the Photon because of the lack of real 4G, and mainly, the lack of SVDO. Part of the reason I have the internet on my phone is so I can get the email or notification right there and then, and if I'm talking to someone, I wanna be able to look something up, especially if it involves school or work. But I want a phone I can go abroad with too, and the Moto Admiral, the iPhone, or BB is no option
And if not, does Sprint really think they can revive their brand if going around the world means not having a phone? Have they not learned lessons from Verizon and ATT's success? Why be late on all three SVDO, LTE, and people travelling with their phones, especially such expensive and premium phones? I, for one, will be more likely to stay with Sprint, which I'm with at the moment because I'm young and don't have a ton of financial resources yet, if I don't always have to worry about renting a phone or having a dumb phone abroad, especially bc smartphones are great for strangers in strange lands.
so I called up Sprint today and the guy told me that it if Sprint wanted to, they COULD issue us an update to have international roaming on the GS3
the answer is no. it's physically impossible, because the Sprint SGS3 has an embedded SIM card for its LTE. meaning you cannot swap SIMs in it. no way around this.
sprint on left, att/tmo/uscc/vzw variant (this one is att) on right:

you don't have to swap SIMs for international ROAMING, so that makes sense, but this does mean it would be hard to use a prepaid SIM card, which is a **** of a lot more convenient. Plus, it probably wouldn't be hard to mod the plastic, or go online, order the part of the back with the screws and SIM-card slot version, which I might do

It would make perfect sense for Sprint to enable this; us galaxy owners could go overseas, they'd get the high roaming rates, and they wouldn't risk losing customers who wanna travel. I still might save my Photon to swap SIMs. If Sprint doesn't enable it, they are idiots.

No. It needs to be SIM unlocked, paid off & not blacklisted. I bought one off of Craigslist. Had the guy meet me at a metro store to verify that it was all good. Fortunately, all went well. It'll cost you $10 for the micro sim card + $15 for the "ESN" change on your account.
It doesn't need to be unlocked metropcs is a T-Mobile mvno they run on the same towers but if you want to unlock it nothing to lose just request for an unlock code but if you haven't bought it yet take other guys advice if buying on Craigslist or if buying on eBay ask for the imei and check the status through T-Mobile
I'm just stating what Metro PCS Corporate told me directly. ALL phones (Including ANY T-Mobile phones) MUST be unlocked. Without exception. Their words - not mine. Was I surprised? Oh yes! I too thought since T-Mobile & Metro PCS are essentially one & the same that one wouldn't need it to be unlocked. NOT so. Don't take my word for it - call their TOLL FREE 888-863-8768 number & ask 'em. They'll confirm what I've said here.

I personally used my old droid dna on Metro pcs. It wasn't sim unlocked, just put a Metro sim in. Granted since I hadn't changed anything else it only got 3g data. But since it is T-Mobile M8 on Metro pcs you should have no issues.
Luck favors you indeed. Go here: https://www.metropcs.com/content/metro/en/desktop/metro/offers/bring-your-own-phone
Their own website says it MUST be unlocked.

Is the Verizon branded HTC 10 Unlocked?

I canceled my unlocked pre order that i was going to use on my AT&T account when they told me end of May early June before it ships. I was wondering is the Verizon branded one fully functional out the box for att like a lot of their other phones are? If so just gonna go in and buy one for 648
I don't think it is. The T-Mobile one probably is, though.

It indeed is unlocked. I have access to a cricket sim. I put the sim in, the phone informed me that it wasn't a verizon sim. I cleared the message, entered the cricket apn and indeed it worked. I am able to place phone calls and surf the web. Signal is HSPA, so maybe the radios are different???
All Verizon LTE devices are sim unlocked I believe

IT is sim unlocked, but you will be limited using it on GSM networks, some features will behave wonky, and it will be missing some bands. Buy an unlocked one.
As far as teh bootloader.........maybe soon

I really want the Verizon HTC 10, I have the LG G4 on VZW now which to this day still doesn't have bootloader unlocked and I hate that. I will wait to see if the VZW HTC 10 can have its bootloader unlocked so I can finally go back to having a customer recovery and ROMs.
For Verizon HTC 10 can unlock GSM....
