CPU-Z and Antutu shows I have 1690MB of RAM, not 2GB? - Amazon Fire Phone

Hi, I got my Amazon phone about a week ago... been playing around with it and recently seen some issues...I used cpu-z and antutu to look at the device and check versus the specs and it states the RAM on my phone is 1690MB? What happen to the 2GB of RAM that's stated by the specs. Can someone please explain? Thank you.

This is stating the total RAM, not what is being used. Wish I knew how to do screen capture of my cellphone...like print screen in windows. I'm sure the OS and other things are running from RAM, but these programs should state it. Can you or someone install cpu-z or antutu and see how much ram they have? I really appreciate it. Thanks

I just ran CPU-Z, says 1690MB RAM as well. Antutu too.

Thank you for letting me know snapplefish! Curious why this is? I wonder if the RAM is set up as ramdisk and set to unknown format that these android apps can't read...can't imagine Amazon would be wrong about their 2GB of ram specs...but who knows... that's why I wanted to ask the forum members.

Same thing on my end.

ZRam

The OS takes up some ram, this is permanent and cannot be used by any other apps. More over, the GPU also use ram.that's why we only have about 1700mb of memory left.
Hope that helps!

Wrong post sorry.

[SOLVED][Q] Where's the RAM?

My phone shows 370Mb Total, 198Mb Free. Not the 512Mb as promised.
I don't get it. Is some of this RAM blocked off and dedicated to some obscure backgrounded processes?
How much RAM do you guys have?
reserved for system
I read around a bit. So does the GPU share in the 512? How come my G1 showed the full advertised 192Mb and this does not?

Yes, the GPU (and the radio) shares in the 512MB. That's normal.
believe the radio/gpu are using 128mb or close to that

thats y the g2 has better graphics.
No bigger tho you wont have a problem with it

NS4G's ram sized 512mb? or 345mb?

well... i just came from Evo4G and im very new with samsung with android..
i didn't bother to check when i first got the phone but right after my rooting process and installation of Miui 1.9.2, i installed perfect system monitor app and put the widget on my main screen and it showed 345mb of ram and only had 49mb free ram..
i was like WTF!! but is this normal? i thought NS4G came with 512mb?
is there a fix?
i do believe the Nexus comes with 512 ram. sounds like theres some setting displaying wrongly
It does have 512 RAM
I've read about this very issue on other forums before.
Some people speculated that it limited the RAM on purpose because the OS doesn't need it all and later versions of the OS would need it.
But ultimately I saw someone post that said that the GPU requires a certain amount of RAM, and so it is almost like partitioned and is unavailable for the rest of the system.
Development? Nope. Thread closed.
And for the record, Irrowley is correct. It is allocated to the SGX 540.

[Q] HTC Desire RAM Question

How come GSM Arena tells that the Desire has 576 mb ram, but, on any rom, it shows only 404 mb?
Is there any way to fix this?
I have seen some post with the hypothesis that a large piece of ram is allocated to the Android system, but I don't think that's true, because I can only achieve max 300 mb free ram, and the rest has to be busy with something...
don't know why it shows reduced either, but it doesnt really need 'fixing'.
assume that software developers generally know more than most of us here...
this might be an interesting read.
my recommendation is not to worry...check how your rom actually feels in day to day use. not how much free or total RAM you have or think you need, or what a benchmark score says...

My rom works like a charm (Mildwild Oxygen), buy I was just asking out of curiosity. I know all the ram theory, and how i shouldn't care, but did HTC sell us lies?

They didn't lie.
Actual ram size is less when in use. A bit like how a micro SD is less when formatted.
Plus part is dedicated to the GPU (graphics)
So yeah probably about right

How much free RAM do you guys have?

Is that normal? How much free RAM do you guys have?
doesn't look like it, but mine is the same. I believe it is the lollipop memory leak issue...so as usual we just have to wait it out
Sucks that just as we are finally seeing 3 Gig of RAM we end up in the same situation as when we had 2Gig ?
I have not upgraded to to 2015 Flagship Standard yet but ...
I was hoping to START at the beginning of Boot Up with about
1.7 -2 GIGs of free RAM for Tasking etc.
I think " upgrading" to Lollipop on many Devices could create more problems than it solves - right ?
And the supposed Wifi Calling and VoLTE are not going to work
because they are Carrier Specific Software which must come directly from your Service Provider.
Free RAM is UNUSED/WASTED RAM! Understand? The more software/applications that are pushed into RAM the better because it is available to do whatever it needs to do without having to go and search for it and place into RAM! If and when you need more RAM for something new, say like opening another application...then Android will move out of RAM whatever is not being used and replace it with the new software. If your phone had 10GB of RAM it would still look nearly full. This is a GOOD thing. It's all still available for use when needed. Remember that RAM is always the fastest part of your phone. Of course the more RAM you have the more applications you can have open at any one time without any lag/stutter. But for now 3GB of RAM is quite good for a cell phone on Android.

Come on... I have Galaxy S4 now (going for S6 today). The S4 comes with 1.8GB usable memory but when it reaches arount 1.5 GB it starts lagging, and by lagging I mean a lot! The fact is that when the device has less RAM it gets laggy and it works better when it has more free memory.
Anyway the higher memory usage is probably of how Lollipop works - it preloads the entire app in the RAM instead of loading it from the flash. It is meant to speed up loading but it takes more memory and I can argue for the effect.
once there are some custom roms, this "issue" will be addressed.
until then, you just have to deal with it

Game Performance (Thinking of Selling)

Hi. I bought the 551 version with 2gb ram and 16gb memory a few days ago. So far the experience has been good. I'm just having problems running the game I regularly play, Crusaders Quest. It slows down to a crawl at times specially if I don't reboot my phone. I'm thinking it's a ram problem. Maybe I should get the 4gb ram one? Or it won't make a difference? Or is it the limitations of the GPU? Should I just switch to the nexus 5 instead?
Appreciate if you guys would chime in before I decide to sell the phone over the weekend. Thanks.

I bought the 551 with 4 gig RAM, and 64 gig HDD. I came from the note 4 edge and haven't looked back. If you let me know what games specifically you are playing I can test them out, but this phone hasn't even broken a sweat for anything I need it to do.

should be related to memory leak in android 5.0.1.. 2gb ram was never enough if memory leak is not fixed..4gb version still can manage and handle the leak, no solution so far unless you root it and install xposed fix memory leak module which also helped me in my case..other than that, just wait till asus push higher version of android such as 5.1 that was said to have better memory management..

Could be throttling due to temps. Its highly unlikely this game is slowing down due to RAM/GPU/CPU unless the device is throttling. What's your ambient temperature there?

It's around 40 degrees Celsius here. So you really think it's not a ram problem? When I run the game I can't even multi task. If I leave the app when I go back to it, it relaunches.

Yea. That's hot, man. Your phone is likely throttling.
The issue with it closing when multitasking is a Asus kernel setting issue. Check your free RAM. I don't believe its a 5.0 leak issue. The leak manifests itself differently than this.
The 4gb version will help with apps closing, but not with the throttling. The Zenfone 2 is beyond powerful enough to run this game.
40°C is still cool enough..i think i remember that i read somewhere before, zenfone kernel started to throttle cpu when it reach 55°c, correct me if im wrong..but unlike my samsung S3, when using lollipop custom rom the temperature usually stays on 40-47°C while using the phone, so phone like this powerful zf2 should not have any problem even on 40°C..but just my two cent yet, anything can be a problem on this phone, unless they update in to newer lollipop and unlock BL so developer may help to improve the kernel and rom level of zf2..

its the problem of low free ram only, dont worry.I guess after updating to latest 5.1 x64bit lollipop...it wont have ram issues hopefully, and this prob only in 2gb,4gb can easily kill anyother phone interms of multitasking

yes, can't stand that 8bit graphic, didn't even want to get into the actual battle because of the graphic...the phone itself is fine.
I do find this phone heats up more than others I've used....would like to find a custom back, something that would allow greater airflow for gaming. If you play a heavy game, just pop the case off and let the extra airflow through.
Hi All, I was playing contest of champion from kabam, my problem is that when I just launch the game it look really nice in full HD graphic, and after 2 games when the heat goes up, no more HD , and when play after about 1/2 hour the graphic start choppy or even stuck in some point. anyone having the same problem ? Thanks
This might be because zf2 has 64-bit processor running with 32-bit lollipop......32-bit won't handle 64-bit efficiently

According to anandtech's review, the Zenfone 2 is not affected by throttling issues. Maybe the game you want to play is not x86 friendly and the slowdowns are because of binary translation (ARM emulation).

it's not 32bit lollipop, CPU Z clearly says the kernel is 64 bit. plus, how can a 32bit OS manage 4 gb of RAM?

That said yes, it's a 64b version. Even about phone will show x86_64.
40C Yep, ambient temp and that's HOT -> phone starts OUT AT 40C, so pretty much ANY stress on it's going to hit thermal throttling PDQ.
