Apparently this is a know problem with any screen protector in place. No fix provided yet.
Great...

Thank you guys, It works like a charm

I got this same problem today looks like I will have to get a proper screen protector with holes cut out for prox sensor.

Make a hole on screen protector

If you use the screen protector, you should make a hole on it right at the position of sensor, with a thin knife.
I use a flashlight torch shine the screen to locate the sensor. It's a little below the front camera with the width x height about 1-2cm x 0.5cm.

Mine is not affected. Only three holes, top and botTom speaker and front camera.

Force screen to dim when on a call?

Sometimes I am using the (front) speaker phone or the caller's voice is loud. In both cases I end up holding the phone away from my ear and the backlighting will not go off. Is there a way to force the backlight off during a call?
the proximity sensor isnt that impressive for me. it doesnt work on when its over your hair. i have a feeling it would be more impressive if i was bald.
I tried pushing the power button during a test call and it seemed to work to turn off the screen but not disconnect the call. Maybe that is all there is to it.

HELP: How to prevent screen shut off at call connect

When the phone connects with a call, the screen blacks out.
I only want it to black out with the proximity sensor. I have to push the power button to turn on the screen.
Can someone please help me?
I have hard reset my device. nothing installed, running stock ATT rom and the screen still goes off when the call connects, then turns on when the call is ended.
the proximity sensor is not controlling the screen.
Anyone have any ideas???
SOLVED
I thought I would post the solution I found for this issue.
I removed the screen protector and cleaned the edge between the speaker and screen - that fixed it.

[Q] In-call my cheek hits "end call" quite a bit..

So my DHD seems to not be turning the screen off properly as I hold it against my ear, and for the third time in a week I've just hung up on someone as a result
Firstly, am I holding it wrong? Should it be touching my head?
And if that doesn't work, are there any alternatives (i.e force the screen on or off)?
press the power button to shut down screen display during calls. It happened to me too.
Ah why didn't I think of that?! thank you! That won't affect the call in any way though will it?
You may also try application: Proximity recalibrator.
It is usefull in case proximity sensor doesn't lock screen when you are talking.

[Q] How turn screen on when on call...if power key set to hang up?

I'm on Blade ROM (based on Ordroid)
I do use the accessibility feature of having the power button hang up call, however several times when I'm on a call via headset, I'm unable to turn the screen on.. because pressing the power button will hang the call.
Previously on ICS, I used to love the swipe 2 wake which used to solve this kinda situations.
Any ideas guys, other than just switching off the feature altogether.
That's what the proximity sensor is for when you remove your phone from your ear the screen should come on like it has done on phones for years

Yeah, maybe your screen protector or case or just dirt has blocked the proximity sensor.

No proximity sensor in use.. I'm using a BT headset for calling, when I'm without headset this problem doesn't arise since proximity sensor takes care of it.

Please understand my problem, proximity sensor works perfectly. also this problem will arise if you are on a call on speaker, you keep on talking and the screen goes off.
Only way to get back in phone is to hit the power button and end the call or keep touching the phone to keep it on

So just swipe your finger over the sensor or just turn the setting of and just use the end call button

Thanks for the suggestion guys, I don't want to change the power button end call feature, I want to keep it like that, I already said that in the OP.
The sensor is only used when the screen is on, when the screen is off due to inactivity, the proximity sensor doesn't work.
However I got my solution, Going to install a volume button wake up mod for JB.. So I will be able to keep the feature and yet wake my phone using the vol button when in call.

while on call proximity sensor does not work properly?

LG G4 international version.
Any one experiencing while you move the phone to your ear during a call, the screen goes off. But when you remove phone from ear the screen will not come back on. I have tired double tapping screen, using volume keys to activate the screen on again.
Is there a work around or anyone else having this problem?
Thanks
I think it was the glass screen protector, covering the sensor. I will try another one that has the cut out. But after removing the protector it is fine again.
My Verizon version seems to act up about half the time by not turning back on when I pull the phone down. My phone is naked so there's nothing that should be interfering.
Same here. No screen protector.
I had that happen once but it turned out that I had a notification that was causing the issue. When I started the call all was fine but during the call the notification arrived and the screen would not come back on until I pressed the power button. Then I could see the notification and dismiss it and all went back to normal
