App for Smartwatch 3 to provide World timezones - Sony Smartwatch 3

My work involves multiple timezones and while I know there are several watchfaces available that do multiple timezones none really look practical. I would like some way to get those zone variables pushed to the watch so I can access them using a Facer display that I have designed myself. I can do it by using Zooper Widget and Wearable Widget Apps but this isn't ideal because it relies on the phone to constantly update the widget, meaning at the very least no seconds display and high battery usage.
In a similar manner I would like to be able to display phone battery level on a Facer designed watchface. But I can't see it on the list of variables in Facer.
Anyone discovered an app, or at least a method to achieve what I'm after? Any other watchface design apps that will allow me to achieve this?

Can you not use Facer and add a number to the hour variable to show different timezones?
Put the following including the brackets and replace <offset> with the desired timezone:
(#Dm# + <offset>) to add time to the hour counter.
You'll have to manually update the face to add a new offset if needed.

Yes, I have been able to manually set an offset using a modulus. The problem is it only is right for a specific timezone change, so each time I move zones and my phone syncs with the new network and the offset is incorrect. I then need to manually adjust the offset in Facer. The beauty of the Zooper Widget was you can set a specific timezone. I know the Facer developer has a few extra features in the pipeline. Hopefully they may include some timezone functions.

Ok, I see the problem. You would need to set the different offices relative to GMT and not your phone time. You can display the timezone in Facer but I can't see a way to base calculations on it.

I have discovered that the Watchmaker app allows 2 other time zones to be displayed but it appears to operate as a widget more and as such is heavier on the battery. It also doesn't take account of daylight saving, so to get to GMT from my current time zone (NZDT) I have to set GMT-1. Early days for Wear and it's apps and I must say devs seem pretty open to suggestions for improvements.

I am Unable to Find a Calculation for a Global time as in India to Read a Global Time would be -> Local India Time - 5:30 = GMT
Now I have seen only Watchmaker App can Achive that not Even Facer can do that, also unable to find a watchface app which has Dual Timings Adjustments

HTC weather widget locations

Moved up from G2 to Desire yesterday and was trying to replicate how I had my G2 (and liked it). I noticed straight away that the weather widget from HTC is now limited to purely locations pre installed on the Desire.
On the G2 you could pick your "current" location where it would open google maps and you could if you wanted you zoom & scroll to your "desired" (no pun intended) location & pick virtually anywhere on the globe and use that.
Just wondering why on the updated UE with more advanced ROM I can't do this?? So my question is to those who know alot more about the backend of these apps/phones, can the location data I have created on my G2 be located easily enough and possibly moved over to my desire??
Thanks
From the manual.
If you consented to turn location service on when you were setting up your phone for the first time, you’ll see the weather of your current location right on the HTC Clock widget of your Home screen.
You can also use the Weather application to check the current weather and weather forecasts for the next four days of the week. In addition to your current location’s weather, this application also displays the weather forecasts of other cities around the globe.
If you declined to turn location service on during first-time setup of your phone, turn location service on in your phone’s settings so that you’ll be able to check your current location’s weather on the HTC Clock widget, Weather application, and the Weather widget. Press HOME > MENU, tap Settings > Location, and then select the Use wireless networks check box.
Location services are on and it works as described for the "current" location. My question was with regard to other user defined locations, which I could do with the previous version of the widget on the android OS on my G2.
This way I can check the weather say at a destination later in the day which isn't contained within the database within the handset.
Is this what you are looking for, although it sounds as though you are limited to the cities listed on the hand set.
Adding a city to the Weather screen
Add more cities to the Weather screen so you can instantly check the weather forecasts in these cities. In addition to your current location, the Weather screen can display up to 15 cities.
1.Press HOME, and then tap Weather.
2.On the Weather screen, tap +.
3.Enter the location you want to add on the text field. As you enter text, the list is filtered to show the possible locations based on the letters you entered.
4.Tap the desired city to select it.
It annoys me that they still don't let it access the weather service online and use your location from there as my location is still no there it was the same with the hero i had.
The locations you can add aren't brilliant I have admit.
I was searching for Basingstoke (someone has to) and couldnt find it until I noticed it under 'Baskingstoke' !
I'm in Reading and it can't find any weather data, it's because we don't have weather here see. That's what it is.
I emailed them over this back when i had my htc hero like 6 months ago and still no fix to this issue.

I can get Reading OK on mine?
I have exactly the same problem, it wouldnt let me puck my own location...except the one picked by the phoneitself. For instance I live in bromley and when HTC set bromley as current location, there is no data available, however If I look for bromley myself and and add as a second location, the weather infor is available for that but the phone will not let me set that one as my current location.
sometimes the current location is unavailable for some reason, however if you add another city and use exactly the same location as for current location it will work fine and then you can set it as your default weather status
I like "Jabbypants" have emailed HTC as from what I can see it is a backward step not allowing us to use the map to pinpoint locations we want to know the weather for.
Maybe if enough email we may get a response?? Or somekind soul from HTC that reads these post will put up an "unofficial fix"??

I have tried that but it did not work..
I too had an oddity with the weather widget last night.
I'm in Leeds in the UK. That's the Leeds in Yorkshire, not in Kent. The weather widget only offers one Leeds, but doesn't state which one it is.
That seemed fair enough until last night. The weather for current location (Leeds) was different from the manually added city (Leeds also). I'm talking major difference - one said snow/rain with 2 degrees and the other said sunny at 8 degrees.
I'd like to figure out which Leeds is actually the one listed for manual selection. It obviously recognises both locations as showed the different weather for them both, but only lets you choose one manually.
Dae.
Edit. It's doing it again now. Leeds(current) shows 7 degrees, sunny and tomorrow (Monday) at 12 degree high with rain. Manually added Leeds shows current 8, cloudy with tomorrow being 11 degree high with Sun!!!
Well I have had a response from HTC, directly via email and via facebook.
Basically the "pinpoint" method employed on earlier android UE's has been removed due to a lack of customer trust. People didn't believe the weather it displayed for locations.
Email conversation is below
"Thank you for contacting HTC regarding the weather widget for your new Desire.
The Google map pinpointing technique you describe is no longer available. However, you can still find your location by doing the following:
- From the home screen, tap on Weather (or click menu and then Weather).
- Once in Weather, tap Menu. This will give you a keyboard so that you can type your preferred location.
I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required.
Kind regards"
I then tried a different tack
Thanks for the reply,
though the technique you describe
- From the home screen, tap on Weather (or click menu and then Weather).
- Once in Weather, tap Menu. This will give you a keyboard so that you can type your preferred location.
is flawed in that it is limited by the locations stored in the UE's database? I can't say for instance pick "Famagusta" in Cyprus as a location I want the weather for, as the UE only brings up Limassol or Nicosia in Cyprus (2 locations for a large island). I know that is a wide of the mark example, but I spend time there, though is is the same for most European countries.
Is there any way to expand the geographic database or do we have to wait for someone to hack it, like they did on Windows Mobile based devices such as the Diamond, where we could edit the database with locations from accuweather.com
Any further info would be most welcome as it has somewhat taken the shine off my progression from handset to handset (last 5 all HTC) which seemed to offer more to the consumer and be more customer orientated in that we could personalise them.
Many thanks
"Unfortunately, there is no way to expand the database. We cannot offer support regarding 3rd party applications, such as you describe. However, you are certainly free to investigate this avenue yourself.
We will feed back to HQ with your comments, but at this time, the locations in the list are the only ones available.
Kind regards,"
I'll be keeping an eye on any developments for this because I'd like it to be able to tell me the weather in Ipsos on Corfu. As it is, Corfu island is omitted altogether.
Anyone with this problem?
My current location displays Portugal instead of Lisbon.
My HTC Hero displayed my location correctly, local city detail instead of county detail.
The weather widget really annoys me. My location is not on the list and if I tell it to current location it knows where I am but says no weather data available. I can view the weather okay on accuweather.com so it's just the widget that won't show it for some reason.
I also asked :
I cannot set MY LOCATION manually. Strange, but I live in Bucharest which is the capital of the country and the weather program from Sense UI finds the city but in the HOME screen the weather it's different (not Bucharest). So my location it is not set manually, the GPS and google settings knows that I'm in Bucharest but the weather shown in HOME Screen it's not Bucharest - instead I have (I guess) Weather for Romania (no city , only Romania). Before writing this e-mail I did some research on the net and the user manual, and I find out that My location it is taken from network settings or something like that. This is not normal and it's very annoying. All I'm asking it's a way to set my location manually or a real automatic setting for this! Romania it's quite big you know ????? Thank you and I'm expecting your answer urgent! Kind regards!
This is what they answered:
Thank you for contacting us,
Regarding the issue you're facing, kindly be informed that if you disable the automatic location settings your location will be determined from the world clock that you can set manually but you will not receive any weather updates, you can try to use another SIM card from a different operator to check if this issue will persist or not, you can also try to searching the Android Market to check if there are any 3rd party applications that might help you with this issue.
Same issue here, weather for Paris works great, but I would like to add the small village where I spend my week-ends, and I can't find it in the database...
Looks like the cities are stored in an xml file, but I don't where to find it...

[APP] Compact Calendar

Please be advised this application is under constant development.
Compact Calendar was developed to solve the need of compact UI experience that I was missing using the regular WP7 calendar. Also in the time when I started this project, there was no possibility to import additional internet calendars. And also I wanted to gain experience in WP7 development.
Few words about the app:
Events are being read from built in calendar (so please do not define them again in compactCal), after that you can import any ical you want. They can be downloaded by configurable time span from 15 minutes up to a year.
When the list is scrolled to the bottom of list, calendar will be feeded with events from configurable time frame, again time frame is from 15 minutes up a year. You can also switch on/off loading of past events (time frame is also configurable).
You can choose from two kind of view: compact and even more compact view. Duration of each event can be displayed in four ways: classic (09:00[am] - 11:00[am]) or advance (10:00[am]-02:00).
To quickly find the closest event simply touch the first event text at top of a page.
To display more details about the event double tap event you are interest in (first display is a bit slow), if you have an address there and the bing can find it, it will be displayed. To see next or previous one use the finger to swipe to the right (next) or left(prev)
Of course there are a lots of place for fixing the app and I'm still working on it, but I wanted to share the current beta with you and maybe gain some reviews about the general idea, get reports about new bugs that you found, or maybe some requirements that are not on my list.
Missing, todos:
- bug fix
- better/nicer icons
- performance test and fix
- creating reminders
- creation of new entries, currently compactCal is just a readonly application
- tiles, live tiles
- How to modify the screen lock to display the information from calendar
- more
Issues can be found on bitbucket.org, add this suffix (since I cannot add external urls) /jstadnicki/compactcal/issues
Application runs on my LG-E900 and emulator. Was not tested on any other device. This is my first WP7 application so please treat gently.
Hope you guys will like it.
Jarek
Wow. looks great. Is it possible to color events based on categories from Outlook Exchange? I know, i couldnt enter them in the WP7 calender, but the field is available. Maybe you can use it or WP7 will use it somedays with a update, what is hope so much.

Unfortunately no - there is no such api that can give me this kind of information.

[Q] setting variables

So I was wondering if there is a way to set a variable to something, then change it dynamically based on an event. Here is an example of an end goal with what I mean. So you make a widget that shows the forecast and all items have some form of
[bo]$#TMU_ISPLAYING#=1?0:100$[/bo]
To hide if media is playing (when combined with media utilities). I would like to take this a bit further and say, if I have that same widget, a forecast widget and down in the corner is an icon, by clicking that icon(the event) it changes the value of a variable in zooper, and the widget can change based on that. Much like with the TMU_ISPLAYING, except with this, your click changes the variable and not an outside app. Does anyone know if this is possible at all, even just a very random workaround solution would be cool, I just want to be able to change a widget based on a click. Thanks in advance.

This is possible with Tasker. Zooper has a built-in Tasker plugin so you can send data from Tasker to Zooper and I have used it for the same thing you are trying to do. If you are used to work with Tasker it's really easy to setup but if you are new to Tasker, it might take you a bit to figure it out. Here is a link on how this generally works: http://www.jagwar.de/en/zooper-tasker-variables/. To get you started, you can find my task here. To use Tasker tasks from Zooper, you set them as a Module OnTap action via the Tasker shortcut action.
Hope this helps you out enough to get you going

[Q] Changing location with tasker scene

I would like to change the widget locality for a module using a tasker scene. The idea is to click on a hotspot in the zooper widget which starts a tasker scene. From there, I pick a location. This sets a zooper variable in tasker to the new location. Up to here there's no problem. But I don't see how I can use the zooper variable to change the locality of the widget. Is there a way to do it?

No, Zooper currently doesn't support changing the location via external means
@VeryGenericUser are you trying to get a map of your current location? Directions from where you are to home or someplace else?

No. The idea was to change the location for the weather forecast. I wanted to have a Zooper weather widget for my current location by default, but still be able to manually change the location with two clicks right from my home screen, for example to set the locality to the place I'm about to travel to.
OK. Why don't you make your Tasker scene to change the parameters of an HTTP GET to something like Yahoo weather. In your scene change the city or zip code and be able to enable or disable the profile.
In Zooper hide the travel weather if you don't have it and show it if you do.
I haven't had the chance to play with scenes yet. Scraping an RSS feed for weather I know how. Have to do a bunch of variable splits.
If you want I can create the RSS scrape and then you can do what you need to do.
Let me know!

Thanks, that might be a way to do it, but it would be more elaborate. Maybe I'll get to it one day when I have more time.

[Q] Trying to match Yahoo Weather exactly

All,
I've been spending a bunch of time trying to get my icons to match Yahoo (using yahoo for my data as well). Ultimately I want my widget to open yahoo weather with certain clicks and I just want everything to be cohesive in look.
So far, I was able to extract all the icons from the yahoo weather apk, and i generally have them working. However, I've noticed that Yahoo actually has many more than 16 weather types. This seems to be causing me all sorts of inconsistencies in terms of what is shown on my widget versus what is shown in the app, specifically in future forecasts for the days ahead. For example, the app shows the next 6 days as scattered thunderstorms (its florida after all). But, my widget is showing them all as full thunderstorms (different icon than the app). I can somewhat "fix" this by mapping them to scattered, but that would just break the ones who truly should be mapped to thunderstorms.
The other problem I'm having is that the future days (once its past sunset) are all changing to nightime icons instead of being locked to day versions (as it is in the app).
Anyone have experience in trying to get everything consistent? Whats the best way to address it? And, is it possible to map the full list of Yahoo data instead of just 16? Perhaps I just screwed something up in my config file when i tried it? The yahoo developer page has a list of all of them, though I have no way to tell if that's actually 100% up to date either? Looks like it was posted in 2011. How can I make the day/night versions ONLY apply to my current weather, and not future? Maybe build 2 different sets of the same icons and exclude night? Seems like a lot of work, so wondering if anyone has tackled something similar.
Thanks,
Also, i assume somewhere zooper is taking the 48 Yahoo weather conditions and mapping that down to just 16? Where / how is that done?

You will not be able to match Yahoo's weather states exactly with Zooper. As you already figured out, Zooper only knows 16 weather states, which is done to unify the states from different weather data providers to a single interface. The external states are mapped internally to these internal ones and this process can not be influenced from the user side.
As to your second question about the day/night icons: download my weather icon set here and check the included XML. It's configured to only show day/night icons for the current weather option and not the forecast variants. You should be able to transfer this to your set quite easily
Thanks!
Interesting. I didn't know zooper converted the 48 yahoo weathers to 16. What are those 16? I'm trying to do something similar to the OP but with bitmaps.

I am facing the same problem regarding day/night icons. I downloaded your config.xml and tried to modify my existing xml based on the info in your xml, but it seems I'm doing something wrong because when I open Zooper on my phone the app is not recognizing the modified xml.
I am attaching the icon set (including the original xml) without any modification. I would appreciate if you let me know exactly what to modify in the xml.
Thanks
