Hearthstone optimization thread - Nexus 7 Themes and Apps

Hi, I had some reboots and freezes when trying to get the game to run, but I think I finally found a decent setup, loading times are nothing to write home about, and there are some graphical artifacts when holding a card from your deck, but the overall performance is surprisingly good.
So, if you think you found the perfect setup for your n7, pls do share.

The newest update to android(5.0.2) and hearthstone made a big difference. on default kernel settings just slight lag in animations
Slim LP F2FS m-kernel 1600/484 is very smooth compared to when HS first got released to Android.

I installed this ROM(Slim-grouper-5.0.2.alpha.0.91-UNOFFICIAL-20141220-1511), and performance is really good overall.
But I installed trickster mod and can only change max GPU, if i change max CPU it goes back to 1300, what I need to do?
Thanks.

Hi i have installed freakslimrom and trickstermod can't stick my 1600 cpu setting only default 1300, so i installed rastapop 5.0.2_r1 f2fs version, m-kernal a73, and google apps minimal edition, default trikstermod have 1500 cpu. Its not as fast as freakslim but hearthstone is going really nice only small lags on loadings. If only gltools work it would be awsome.

Its hard building a game for such a wide range of hardware... See Windows for example.
The cost of freedom I suppose.

nope unless your overclock which you have to 1.6ghz but to have no lags in game if it still does just use ramexpander as I have been using it for the past 4 hours... I have seen so much improvement as now I can play dead trigger on High detail and able to play other games as well such as black ops and fifa 12.
to use ramexpander you need to set it to 512mb and swappiness to 90 (and click start top left and let it load) then your down and minimize and enjoy playing
both use does kill battery fast but I lasted 2 hours game play to 14% using mark phyton ics with doom kernel at 1.402ghz no frills smartass v2, deadline
also reminder is to shutdown app when your not playing games buy clicking on ramexpander on notification bar and click start to uncheck box then wait for few minutes for it to deactivate as it freeze phone for 2 - 3 minutes as it takes time to deactivate then exit application and when you need to use it just start it up again.
Requirements;
SD card number 4
overclocked to atleast 1.402ghz at smart ass v2, deadline (1.6ghz will do fine if you wish to use)
ramexpander 512mb ram - 90mb swappiness
games to play and test out
I hope this helped!

It's all about the hardware in this case involving 3D rendering, even with the latest Android version the hardware is still limited on the Play.

[Q] Galaxy nexus lags over time?

So, background information. I am running apex launcher trinity kernel and android revolution. I have read ahead to 2048kb and seeder on aggresive and such. And i changed the interactive governer "hispeed_freq" to 1344000 a.k.a 1.3ghz
So why is it that my phone starts to lag flying through the drawer and homescreens after a while. Only a reboot will fix this, and then it'll be fast as lightning. But then again after a while it slows down incredibly and i close all the apps and it's still there.

its not just you, many guys are having the same issue, regardless of speed or settings or free ram
it just happens at random and fixes itself by changing wallpapers
but if u use a live wallpaper, it will always be smooth so try that

Try another rom. This happens on almost all 4.2.2 roms. Those that don't suffer are those roms that are close to stock as possible or void of bloatware.

Then you probably are one of the lucky (like me) who may have a problem with the eMMC chip. There is a bug that affects some August 2012 models that leaves you phone slow as hell when you start running out of free space. Look around and try flashing a rom called Cataclysm (dont forget to do a factory reset, it helps with this problem), the dev made a workaround that helps alot.

The following roms I have tried and are smooth are Atom, Vanir, Purity, Rasbean. This rom are void of bloatware that is why they are fast and smooth. Pair them with anarkia, trinity or fancy kernels.

Performance Improvement

Let me introduce myself first. I have been developing software for Windows for almost 20 years. I love to tweak and tinker. That is what drew me to the Android platform. With that said, here are my findings:
I own a T989. I love the phone. I have tried numerous tweaks and scripts etc out there. In the end I found some very minor tweaks that I have done manually that make a noticeable difference in performance and a battery life.
The biggest increase in performance and battery life that I had noticed was going from a stock rom to CM 10. I am currently on CM 10.2 (and eagerly awaiting a stable version of CM 11).
With that said I noticed that if I changed just a few minor things CM 10.2 runs considerably faster.
Here is what I have done:
1. Disabled ZRAM completely. I have noticed that my phone boots faster with it disabled. I noticed that multitasking was not as good with it disabled but the phone seemed much snappier.
2. Changed Min Free values. I used the Performance Control app for this. My settings are currently as follows:
Foreground Applications: 16 mb
Visible Applications 18 mb
Secondary Server: 23 mb
Hidden Applications 42 mb
Content Providers 49 mb
Empty Applications 56 mb
This seemed to help a lot with multitasking and now it multitasks fast and the phone is much snappier and less laggy. So far my phone is very stable and fast.
3. Set SD Card Read Ahead to 2048.
4. I also left KSM disabled and left Allow purging of assets disabled.
That's it. My phone is rock solid stable and fast with these settings. I also noticed that my battery lasts about 15% longer. Even better than just switching to CyanogenMod 10.2 alone.
Let me know if it works for you.
I would absolutely love to try this, but I don't understand majority of what you wrote. I'm familiar with cyan though..

How do you disable zram entirely is what I'm wondering ?
*MEGA 4.4.2*GS2 4.4.2*2SHAYNEZ*
Disabling ZRAM is CM is easy. Under the performance menu just go to Memory Management > ZRAM. Select Disable. Reboot.
Oh I'm running slimkat on my i9205 mega and downloaded the performance apk. And I'm running beanstalk on my t989
*MEGA 4.4.2*GS2 4.4.2*2SHAYNEZ*
I updated the OP with new Min Free settings. I noticed that it wasn't as stable as I thought. After using it heavily all day I updated some apps in the Play Store and the launcher hung and everything was slow until I rebooted.
I then changed it to the new values above and used it very heavily. I made sure at least 18 apps were open then reinstalled those same apps from the Play Store (I uninstalled them first). So far no problems.

Is there a way to disable ZRAM on a rooted stock T989 running 4.1.2?

As far as I know the stock ROM doesn't have ZRAM.

Running JMT8 right now, and this has been one of the best posts I've seen on this forum. All roms I ever flashed would be snappy for the first couple days then slow to a crawl after a month. This has brought this phone back to life and prevent me from having to flash all the time. I wasn't able to do the ZRAM disable since I don't think I have that settings, but I updated the min-free settings and have seen noticable improvements. Thanks!

[Q] N3N Games & Apps Performance Issues

Hi there
I have my Note3 Neo for a month now and it runs superb, love this device. However.. there are few 3D Games that glitch during gameplay
Beach Buggy Blitz- Starts up fine but after a while I start to notice game Glitches, The checkpoint clock and the Boxed graphics on the sides don't act as they should be. There other parts of the game that acting the same way.
Dungeon Hunter 4- (Great Game) Starts Fine, After a while all the characters lose their characteristics.. face.. sword details.. armor details.. etc..
PlayStation® All-Stars Island- The Game itself runs fine, but on the main menu (the Island) it like the 3D is broken (pieces disappear and appear again).
Other 3D Games like Kritika: Chaos Unleashed, Dead Space, Dark Avenger, Dead Triger run smoothly.
Just want to know if there is anyone else out there having the Same Problems or its just me.
P.S i read about Modern "Combat 5 not working" If thats the case Big.Little Possessor is there a way to fix this?
Thanks
Although the reviews compare it with snapdragon 800 and they say the cpu is on par and gpu os on par with adreno 320...however I have noticed games were much smoother on my Nexus 4. At SOME point on note 3 neo games do stutter.

Have a look at this App to change GPU speed
FYI just tried the GPU_OC up to see if it will do any difference to the games.. But now i get an "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped" error on the long press of menu button (recent apps). P.S i own an N3N 7505.
just saying as heads up..
The error was caused by the secure settings the apps asks you to download..

Family Guy game issues please help

Alright, its a long shot but here goes,
Ive been really into this Family Guy Quest For Stuff game, for those who havent played it I recommend you do!
Anyway it really seems to hate custom roms, It lags unbelievably and becomes unplayable, Yet when im on stock it is smooth, fluent and works flawlessly.
Ive been into the game for a few months now and have progressed well and would like to keep playing it, However I dont wanna be on stock to be able to do this. Are there any other Family Guy players around here with the same problems?
For what its worth all other games work as they should, this is the only game in my collection that has this issue.
Cheers people!
? "Family Guy" and "Big Fish Casino" are the only 2 games I play on Android.
? I solved the lag issues by installing the games on my Tablet instead! (Bigger screen & more processing power).
Sent from my SM-T310 using Tapatalk
That doesn't help me identify the cause though, the issue doesn't lie with the devices processing power because on a stock rom it is fine.
I want to figure out what is different between stock and custom that could have an effect on this particular game.
The game is server based. Could there be something limiting my connection to the server? Could it be that there is different gpu configuration between stock and custom? I really don't know much about how things work but there must be someone who does around here
Sent from my Moto G using XDA Free mobile app
I think you already answered to your own question, when you mentioned "different gpu configuration"...
Try using some game booster app?!
Here some examples:
"clean master" for example, has a game boosting option.
Or maybe a more specialist app like (Android Tuner) that will help you to fully control how your device operates.
? I hope this can be of any help to you,
Good luck!
Sent from my SM-T310 using Tapatalk
Well I've been boosting the game through clean master and it has no effect. I've used an entropy generator to try and reduce lag. Still no difference. I've overclocked the cpu and fiddled with the governors too.
I will give the Android tuner a go and see how I get on with that.
Thanks.
Sent from my Moto G using XDA Free mobile app
Okay so I have optimised my device to the extreme for playing games. Boosted through clean master, had Android Tuner highly configurated and had the cpu overclocked to the maximum possible as well as kernel tweaks and gpu tweaks.
This issue is 100‰ not related to the devices specifications.
The conclusion I have come to is that the game isn't compatible with 4.4.4 as when I was stock I was on 4.4.2 it worked as it should. Can someone shed some light on this?
Also, what could possibly change from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 that could influence the way this game works?
I know it's no big deal it's just a game. But it's the principle now, it's got me intrigued as to what is happening behind the scenes.
Cheers.
