System write protection.
There is a mod to disable that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/des...e-disable-write-protection-v1-0-tool-t2966850
Or use a custom ROM, those have it disabled already.

I went through all the necessary steps. Only thing/issue now is the actual flashing of the root file. It will not take. Anyone else have this issue? Is there a way to get the necessary binary or whatever it's asking for? Thank you in advance.

for me its working well. just made backup and using SU after etc. no issue at all
but i installed cwm from ROM manager instead
How does CWM save/store its ROMS, and where does it load from? With the Xoom, without a working SD, it was not possible to use CWM.
If the onboard storage is all one volume with the OS, is the storage included in the backup, and how is the images written if the storage is needed to hold the ROMS to be flashed?

Rooting shouldn't affect the Recovery partition so you should be able to safely root then backup your stock recovery before installing ClockworkMod Recovery?
Or if someone backs up theirs you could download it and keep a copy of it?
Anyone can post here recovery.fstab ?
I have just installed Rom Manager and I get a FC but it seems to have installed the CWM OK. It successfully rebooted to CWM and I could navigate around but I didn't try flashing anything yet.
The issue may be more with Rom Manager than the recovery
Installed CWM just fine, however when i try to do a nandroid backup it says "Can't mount backup path" or when i try to browse for a zip to install "Can't mount /sdcard/".
My first guess is that it is because i encrypted my phone, but i believe it works on my Xoom, which is encrypted as well... (I will check this later when i have my Xoom nearby)
FYI, this recovery also is confirmed working on my VZW LTE version.
Backups are approximately 6-700MB and are ext4.tar files for system, data and cache.

Dude !!!
Dont post this type of posts in this thread
others will think that you flashed the recovery and got bricked your phone
please edit the above thread and tell your actual problem like you flashed using kdz updater and the bricked.I have already PMed.
After clicking on the .bat file, it does put gscript app on my phone, but it can't find the script.sh file on the sd card (there's no gscript folder as well).
Should I try the installer again? Create the folder and copy the file?
Nevermind, it's working now. I just don't know how to keep going from there. How do I install a new ROM?
After I click on the script, it does blue screen and then reboots, but not into recovery mode it just starts up like normal.
Thanks .

I had this problem too (tho i flashed manually) but when i reflashed it worked fine. But before you try reflashing it try to boot the phone into recovery using ADB
Here is how:
Plug your phone in and enable debugging.
Then open ADB and type in su and hit enter after that type reboot recovery and again enter. If you flashed the recovery correctly your phone should boot into recovery. Hope that helps
Hello!
Your tutorial is quite good and very helpful.
Everything worked as you described.
But, after the blue screen, I had an issue: my phone stops at Fastboot mode. Then I get the message "udc_start()" and it stops there, nothing happens. It doesn't start android. Can you tell how to proceed from there?
Thank in advance!
Best,
F

If ripping out the battery didn't help then you need to flash the recovery via fastboot.Since your phone automatically boots into bootloader ( the udc_start () state) you need to download fastboot flasher ( you can find it via google or xda search) and flash recovery from there.Just make sure you are flashing the right recovery. And then from the recovery you can flash a custom rom.

You boot into recovery and navigate to backup (in order to make nandroid backup-you can skipp this step but you won't have a stock android backup in case you dont like the new rom or it doesn't work) than navigate to flash zip from sdcard(obviously you need the rom on the sdcard) and then select the rom and then confirm flash. After that you should see a yellow progress bar after the flash is complete you reboot your device.Oh and just in case you didn't know you navigate using up and down volume buttons you confirm with menu button and you cancel/go back with back button

I did it differently because there is no working link of the recovery.zip
after rooting the phone with gingerbreak, simply download ROM Manager from play store and flash recovery from there.
hi i need original rom 2.2.2 for my phone in zip form so i can put on my sd card and flash dose anybody have this and if so could they upload it for me thanks
Works nicely! However, I had to follow the following procedure:
- Disconnect the USB cable
- Start in fastboot mode
- Type the command in the PC (it should says something like "Waiting for device")
- Connect the USB cable
Without using this procedure, I would get stuck in "Waiting for device". Hope it helps someone.

Download a custom rom from this forum, Cyanogenmod for example. So make sure you have a .zip file. Then make sure ADB is fully working on your computer/laptop/iStone and do the following:
- Start your phone in recovery mode:
1. vol down + vol up + power while the phone is off
2. Select "recovery mode" with the volume buttons and press power to confirm
>phone boots into CWM
- Go to storage/mounts and mount system (mount your system partition)
- Open a CMD window on your computer and navigate to where your Android SDK is (/pathhere/android-sdk/platform-tools/)
- For ease of use put the rom you just downloaded (the .zip file) in that platform-tools folder.
- Now run these commands:
1. "adb remount"
2. "adb push nameofzipfile.zip /system/sdcard/"
- Now unmount system
- Go to flash a zip from your SD-card and you should see the zip file you just 'pushed' (copied)
Flash away and your phone should be at least booting again.
Other than that, this is the wrong forum for questions.
First, learn to post in the correct place. This is the development section, not the help section.
You posted in the wrong place, you dont serve help

If and only you have TWRP installed instead of CWM, you can flash another ROM from USB-OTG.
Now you have to sideload a ROM or flash factory image!

ZIP-file with binary attached by jemyzhang contains a guide. Seems to be quite simple to follow.
I can't test it as I'm still on 5.0.2 (CN rooted, but for unkown reasons still unable to flash to FM version) - but it's probably worth a try for those who have already updated to CN or FM 5.1.1 and are stuck with a non-rooted N1.
If there are any voluntaries - please post detailed report. N1-community would definitely appreaciate it! It is such a beautiful device.
It would be especially great if someone with a CN 5.1.1 could report success (I guess it would be a three-step-approach: rooting CN 5.1.1, then switching to FM 5.1.1, then probalby necessary to root again?)
I will test this when I have time (later this week I hope). I will definetely post a guide if I succeed with this.
the boot partition is verity off, you can flash the recovery(FM) to the boot partition, and flash the FM package with sideload.
Hi Jemy,
Really appreciate your work on Nokia N1 and I'm so glad that it is possible to root devices with A5CNB19. However, as a rookie, I have no idea how to follow your guidance and successfully root the tablet. Could you please update some detailed instructions on how to root this device? Thanks again for your kindly work on this tablet.

Code:
fastboot flash boot n1_twrp_rec.img
1.3. boot into 'normal' mode, this will actually boot into recovery
[restore boot image]
- restore back the orignal FMB19 boot image:
flash boot.img from recovery(switch to image mode)
[flash magisk and phh-supersu]
That's all
[Anything not ready for twrp]
1. adbd, usb connection error
2. graphic, low performance for text display
3. no signature:::: so flash into recovery partition is impossible
How to unlock boot loader??
Any one try the method? N1 can not unlock bootloader by command from adb before.
Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Fail to root A5FMB19
I have tried "steps for rooting A5FMB19", but I failed.
As you say, first I adb push three files to the sdcard of N1. Then I unlock the bootloader. But when I unlock it, all the data in the tablet will be cleared.
So, when I want to flash boot.img from recovery, I can't find them in my tablet.

fist unlock the divice, then restart to the system, if the restart doesn't work, you should flash "fastboot –w" in the fastboot modle。after that, copy the files into your divice, then go to the fastboot and flash twrp。
if you can read chinese, read baidu tieba, goto the nokian1 section(i can't post the url)
Have anyone succeeded with this method ?
I can confirm this working.
Several notes to make:
1. from what I understand, the iovyroot method is only POC, and unrelated to the second approach. ( I actually tried this approach and couldn't get root access)
2. the second approach works for me. Note that both magisk and phh-supersu require two steps of installation: first flash in recovery, and install the correspoding apk in android.
Thank you jemyzhang!
Not able to push the iovyroot.n1 it says : permission denied . even in recovery as in fastboot as in normal boot
i'm actually using A5FMB19

Hello, dear owners of this beautiful device.
After an unsuccessful attempt to get root, such a warning appeared, plus the ability to lock the screen disappeared. As a result, I didn't get root either and problems arose)
Could you show the instructions how to fix everything step by step and get root? Thanks)
Hey, so I have the same problem as you. I was installing the patched boot.img file when I rebooted, but there was no magsik app. After I tried to flash the same file again, except I put in some vbmeta file because some website said so, now my phone's files are corrupted. I got into fastboot mode and put through recovery mode, and did a data wipe and one final reboot, but even that did work because it said my phone is corrupt. The last thing I will try is to install TWRP, remove the old data, and install the update to restore the previous ROM files. I'll let you know if anything works. Just try ur methods and let me know if they worked. Sure is an expensive paperweight if it doesn't work...

Your boot loader must be unlock
Reboot to recovery, choose English when you see "Wipe data" type
adb reboot sideload
Once your phone boots into sideload mode (When you see the two error line at the bottom of the screen) type
adb sideload NX729J-update.zip
When the transfer is successful ( with a transfer of 2.0 display) you can wipe the data twice with the first and second options and reboot the phone. If you are lucky, the phone will boot

Download global V3.19 rom from: https://rom.download.nubia.com/Europe&Asia/NX729J/V319/NX729J.zip
Download QPST and QFIL flash tool from: https://www.mediafire.com/file/220h5xaxi1gd55m/QPST_2.7.496.zip/file. Install the driver (provided in the download) and these two programs.
You could then flash this rom V3.19 using QFIL flash tool. If you can flash this rom successfully your phone will work.

For QFIL, use Flat Build and in the configuration use ufs. Good luck!

Your version V4.18 will be replaced by V3.19. This V3.19 version can be flashed through edl mode. I could not find V4.18 in this format. The two roms are very similar. They are both global roms.

If QFIL does not work, you need to do side load the rom multiple times again then it might work!
turn off the red rm8 notification (Your device is broken. It is unreliable and may not work)
- enter command on PC: adb reboot "dm-verity enforcing"
- on phone for rooted device with termux: reboot "dm-verity enforcing"

The command on PC shows "Too many arguments." The Termux one works. Thanks!
