[Q] home button sometimes unresponsive - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone, I just got a Tab S 8.4 SM-T700 and the home button seems to only work when pressed exactly on the center. When pressing the button a little to the side, I will hear a slight click, however, nothing happens.
Is anybody else seeing this issue or is it considered "normal operation"? I also have a Galaxy S5, which has a very similar home button that works every time, regardless of where you press.
Thanks!

I have the same problem but I don't know if it is a problem or not...do you have found something

Hi domy_deg, thanks for the response... I guess the fact that you also have the same problem could suggest that it's normal, or maybe we just got the same defect on our devices. I still haven't found anything else, but if I do I'll post it here.

Ok me too...but I think it's normal or I hope because if it was a problem the home button doesn't work ever just like the iPhone 4 we must press very hard the button to work
what do you think about it?

I started to think it was normal, but it seems that I don't get a response from the home button really often...

Same here but with Galaxy Tab 4 10.1

Tmobile Touch Pro 2 Screen Problems

Hey guys I was wondering if there was a simple way to solve this problem.
For some reason when i press the power key or just open up my phone my screen wont come on. I have to pay around with it a few times to actually make the screen come on. Has any1 else had this issue? If so how did you fix it?
Im using standard firmware, noting custom on my phone at all.
I don't get it man, you say you do press the power button and it doesn't come on? when I first got my Tmo TP2, I was baffled at how to get it on, but just pressing the power button at the top once was the only way to do it for me..maybe you're holding it down to long when you press? I'm not sure..did you do the upgrade to Tmo's official 6.5??

What about when you pull the stylus out when the screen is off? Same delay? If so, then the source of the issue is related to the phone's response, not the switch method (top button, slide switch, stylus switch).
Im using the updated window 6.5 and im not holding the power button to long. IDK whats wrong with it. As for when i pull the stylus out, i never really used that method to make my screen come on. I just tried it adn it worked. but im not sure if it will continue to work. I will use just that method for hear on out to see.

Yeah, I never really use it that way much (if ever)...but that's probably the best way for now to try to isolate the issue
Ive tried the stylus thing for a while now and like the power button it doesnt work all the time. Im not sure if the phone is just broke what.

Capacitave buttons not very responsive..

Just been noticing that I usually have to press the capacitave buttons a few times to get it to recognize.... anyone else notice this. On my EVO if I press home or menu or back it recognized it right away, on the ET4G it seems to not recognize touch very well, but only on those soft buttons, everywhere else on the screen is great...
Mine work good, a hell of a lot better than my Epics. I'd say mine are a little less sensitive than the Evo 4G's and the Shift though.

I think these have a smaller area for the button than the EVO did because I was experiencing the same thing but then noticed I wasn't pressing low enough. Now that I'm getting more used to the layout it seems like I'm getting a response from the buttons every time.

Makes you wonder... Were they designed that way, for some odd reason, or was the form off, and nobody bothered to QC the mass production version?

Volume up, Menu and Home key not working!

Hello everybody! My htc desire's physical buttons(actually just the volume up, home and menu keys) don't work...I press them but nothing happens. Well, they work sometimes, but when they don't I reboot my phone, randomly press some buttons, and they start working again. I just don't know what the fault is. Im on MildWild CM 4.3. I think the same problem was with other firmwares too. Can you please solve my problem?
If your device is under warrantly just send it to htc. It's a hardware problem, not something that you can solve with a script.
Ah, so you're telling me there's nothing that can be done to repair it? Cuz, my device isn't in warranty(I just replaced the casing)...

I don't know.. I don't want to be pessimistic, maybe you can search for similar problem in internet and a possibile solution, not just for Desire but in general for devices that have hardkeys. Maybe like use a spray for electric contacts while device is turn off and wait that it's completly dry before turn it on. Good luck.
I can't remember it, but I think that this problem appeared only after I got my casing changed. Could the technician have done something wrong? Can I send it to the man that changed the casing?
It's probably just some dust that gathered underneath the buttons. I had the same problem with the volume down button. I used a needle to clean the dust around it, and then it worked perfectly.
I dont think it could be due to the dust, cuz there are three buttons which simultaneously stop and start working... It's a bit strange tho..
I have issues now with my power button. It's unreliable... that is, the button sometimes works. Sometimes when I press it, it opens the shutdown menu..
Started all of a sudden. Not sure how that happened... and it's out of warrenty for 4 months now..
That is why I use Button Savior
Same!
I am getting the same problem. I have replaced the keypad flex with a new one and still getting the same issue. It would start working randomly like if I open the browser and open many tabs, then it would work. Funny thing is that they would not even work when I go in recovery.
My desire is 2yrs old now but I still love it.

Same problem here.
Mostly happens with Home and menĂ¹. Less often with volume buttons.
For now I'm using the "button saviour app" workaround, but if is something hardware I will know it very soon... (made a copy of my rom on a friend's HTC Desire)

All three buttons simultaneously! Buttons usually fail gradually one by one and drive you mad finally. I would put my money on the keypads being misaligned during whatever you got done with casing. Take it back to him.
If its some kind of misalignment no amount of sprays will help.
BTW I use zmooth for button conservation
use soft key instead

I had the same issues : menu button working randomly, had to press very strong on up/down volume buttons.
I've dismounted my phone (using this : http://www.formymobile.co.uk/desiredisassembly.php ), and I saw that there were a lot of dust, hairs.. I tried to clean up/down volume buttons the best way I could, and they both work so much better now! Not totally perfect though.
By the way, I noticed that there was a lot of compressed dust in micro-USB connector and was able to remove it fully (thing I couldn't do without dismounting phone).
I didn't want to go farther to access menu/home buttons because I didn't have time and Menu button works quite OK.
I have the same issue here with the volume buttons they tend to get unresponsive and unreliable.
Even though all the parts were renewed since six months ago, the volume buttons are probably bad designed?

You could replace bad working buttons' functions with others'. My volume down isn't working, so I made my search button act like a vol down.
Buy the new one

[Q] Home Button not waking up phone?

I've been having this issue and its been happening to me on stock, CM10 and ktoons rom as well.
Just randomly when i want to wake my phone up using the home button, it does nothing, or the buttons for menu and back lit up but the screen is black.
Sometimes if i hold home long enough it will show the lock screen or if i use the power button its fine.
Ive just switched over to the S3 from an iPhone so im really used to pressing home to unlock the phone.
Anyone else having this issue? Ive searched around alot of people have lag issues but i haven't seen one like mine yet.

Ok i thought so, sorry for creating a topic on it. on stock it happened it to me a few times as well though.
i just wanted to make sure it wasn't faulty.
I used to be able to just hit the home button twice and it would work but lately it's just a black screen no matter how many times. Using tasks ROM. I'm getting used to using the power button

[Q] I9195 Vibration issue

Hello guys,
I'd like to ask you if somebody has the same problem.
Mmy s4 mini vibration is very buggy.
Everytime it has different strenght.
Sometimes when I press a button on the keyboard I can feel a strong vibration and sometimes I can barely fell it.
But there is more. Sometimes it makes a sound like cracking which is very frustrating.
Thank you in advance

To test buggy vibrate hardware on Samsung.
Go to Phone, then type: *#0*#
You will then see various options. Press the Vibration/Vibrate button and see if it is constant. If it's not constant then it may well be a hardware fault.
To get out of this menu when you're done just tap "back" twice.
I tried but invalid mmi error appeared and can't be fixed with a ",".
What do you mean with a comma....
So the code *#0*# doesnt work on the 9195 version.
Can someone else with a 9195 confirm since it works on the 9190.

*#0*# working well here on GT-I9195.
By the way I am using cyanogen if this maters.
I fixed it guys. Flashed back to stock where the *#0*# menu was available then pressed the vibration button and the phone started vibrating. Maybe the motor was stuck or something but now my keybord vibrations are normal.
It works on the LTE version. Tested.

I can confirm that in stock rom, this is the behaviour in SwiftKey in my device also. Sometimes the strength is different, and sometimes you can here a small sound like a crack (it comes from the back cover, so nothing really important).
Do you also use SwiftKey?
