Can I flash this? Since I got it rooted, s off and super CIDed (with "11111111")
Hi, I use Tmobile on a verizon m8 factory unlocked, rooted and s offed thru Sunshie before I flashed ARHD 22.1 and soft bricked it. Restored back to verizon stock (still rooted and s off, Sunshine is awesome).
Then I decided to super CID it to "11111111"
Questions:
1) What could be the reason I bricked it--no super CID or the ROM simply, for some reason, wasn't compatible with my device?
2) (kind of a follow up question)Now that I super CIDed it, do I have a much better chance ARHD won't brick it? And also am I ready to flash this Rom here (t-moble stock rooted right?)?
3)I use both rom installer and flashify on my phone and I flashed a newer twrp under flashify than the twrp I flashed under rom installer (which I didn't realize). When I tried to enter recovery to create backup it's stuck on "entering recovery" screen until I suspected the reason mentioned above and flashed the older version again under rom installer that I was able to use twrp again...
My question: Is it better to use only one of these two apps?

[Q] Insertcoin S-OFF needed and other questions

Im running an unbranded, unlocked desire with Froyo currently. Its rooted using unrevoked.
I want to flash to Insertcoin latest but got some confusion from reading the docs.
Do i need to run "revolutionary" to turn my current S-ON desire into S-OFF or will it install just fine without changing?
If so, will it work with the existing revoked/cm/root mod or not or do i have to remove that first?
Once im on the ROM how easy is it to go back to stock 2.2 ? Can i just take a nandroid backup from CM recovery and then restore that or will that not work?
Help with the above is appreciated, especially if i need to be S-OFF or not to install!
All your questions can be answered by using the search.
S-OFF is not required to flash other ROM (as long as ROM has a Stock hboot version). Suggest reading this excellent FAQ (courtesy RootSU):

[Q] Best way to preserve Sense for easy switching between GPE and Sense

Hi All,
I just pulled the trigger on a M8 this morning and have been reading up how to root, s-off etc.
I intend, pretty much right off the bat, to flip over to the GPE. My reasoning for this is that its what i've ended up running on whatever phone i've had ever since i got my HTC desire way back.
But - just in case - i'd like to take a nandroid of the sense ROM and store in on my PC should i ever wish to go back - because - tinkering
My intention is to first root and install TWRP on the phone then backup before moving the backup to my PC.
At this point i'll S-OFF, full wipe, then convert to the GPE edition.
Now here is where things get a little muddy for me. My understanding according to the reversion thread here is that I can then flip between GPE and Sense via backup should i wish.
To quote that thread - "This does not apply if you have installed a GPE ROM. You can flash as normal through recovery. (using instructions of new rom)"
First off - is that correct? If so when do the partitions get resized to the point that you need to follow the instructions in that thread?
Is it when installing a non GPE AOSP ROM like Cyanogenmod etc - that doesn't feel correct to me?
I guess what im asking is - during what process do the partitions get resized to the point that I'd need to follow the instructions in the reversion thread linked above?
Hello Raja,
I would use SunShine to S-Off. Even if it cost 25$, it will unlock the bootloader during the process aswell. This way HTC won't know that you ever unlocked if it should come to warranty issues. On the other Hand the preload folder will be wiped by the HTCDev unlock process and thus you won't have the stock calculator as well as the stock flashlight installed, after doing the unlock with HTCDev.
After this you could
first: rund the "fastboot getvar all" command
second: download stock firmware for the show version-main in the output given by the above mentioned command
third: install the knewest TWRP 2.8.0.1 and perform a backup of the Sense ROM.
fourth: follow the RUU GPE conversion thread to perform a full GPE conversion (including Firmware!!)
fifth: follow this thread to get back to Sense

On point 3, does TWRP make backup of stock recovery now? I haven't used TWRP for a while now, it won't boot for me and I'm not going to flash it just to check that...
If it doesn't make a backup of stock recovery it would probably be better for him to rather BOOT Philz and make backup of device including stock recovery BEFORE he flashes a custom recovery. That is of course assuming that he has a version which isn't available in the collection thread.

Hi,
Im not bothered about HTC warranty as the phone i'm buying is a refurbished one from eBay so the warranty is long gone other than the one given by the seller (who has around 1.7M feedbacks (yes that's million)).
Regarding your method above - whilst helpful, it doesn't answer the question i posed in my post which actually links to the thread given above - when does the partition sizes change so that i have to follow that thread to return to sense? As that thread seems to suggest that I DON'T need to do it if i convert to GPE, see the quote posted above.
Also, why do i need to download the firmware for the version shown in the version-main output if i backup in step 3? Just so i have a copy?
Thanks for your help though. :good:

The newest version doesn't make a backup of stock recovery. Thus I wrote him to download the full firmware for his devise, as the stock recovery is integrated in that

The partition sizes are changed during the ruu installation,in my first link thus you would have to change time back to go back to Sense. This is explained in my second link, as no Sense based ROMs can be installed after the ruu process.
The backup done by TWRP is just the ROM (OS) backup. But the firmware, such as hboot, recovery, radio and so on are not included, which is why you should run this command first and download the stock HTC firmware first. Following this way, you got a full backup of all needed files to revert back to Sense.

Great - thanks for the info.

Why don't you want to extract files before executing them? It's really not a good idea to run file from an archive.

Maybe you need to run the file as Administrator. Or try to download the zip file again...
But you DON'T REALLY NEED s-off to install custom ROMs. It's even more likely that you will brick your phone when it is s-off when you are able to change initial partitions.
Really?!! Thank you!!

The only thing you have to remember when you have s-on hTC phone - every time when you will flash custom ROM, you must flash compatible kernel manually using fastboot command (recovery is not able to flash boot partition when s-on). So read OPs very carefully about kernels compatible with that ROM. Most often the best kernel file is included within a ROM zip file (boot.img). Good luck!
Really thank you!

I don't know what could be causing that issue. I'd post in the Q&A section for the Desire Eye as other people might have the same problem and would be able to help you better.

(Noob) Need help going back to stock so I can update the boot-loader

Hey folks, I have an international one m8 that is S-On and runs an unofficial version of CM 12. I tried upgrading to the latest cm for the theme engine via tarp but I keep on getting : script aborted: This package supports bootloader(s): 3.18.0.0000, 3.19.0.0000; this device has bootloader 3.16.0.0000.
Apparently, based on searches on xda, this problem is due to the fact I run an old boot loader. The solution apparently, because I'm S-On is to restore back to stock. And I have no clue how to begin doing this. I know there are guides out there that contain terms like RUU and so on but I have no clue what these mean and as a result most of the guides aren't intelligible to me. I also don't mind if someone can link me to a guide that's easy to understand if any exist.
I would appreciate it if the kind folks here can help me step by step of how to be able to go to future versions of CM 12 via restoring to stock. I'm even open to S-OFFing using sunshine if you folks can help me.
Thank you in advance.

In simple terms, restore your nandroid backup, flash stock recovery, do a reset than proceed on with official OTA

Hey I went through that thread that you posted and while my one's CID is htc_001, there seem to be multiple nandroids ranging from 1.1.2.xy to 3.28.xy. Will choosing a lower version vs a higher one (1.12 vs 3.28) help me in anyway and therefore which one am I supposed to pick? Also, the page also lists firmware. Is this the same thing as nandroid and is recommended for the task that I want to do (upgrading CM versions). Lastly what do you mean by reset? If I restore my nandroid, aren't I supposed to do a factory wipe on it anyways? Thank you so much for helping,
