[Q] zp999 error with MTK droid tools - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi All,
I want to backup my stock rom of my zp999 pro (build 20141218-145608) , make a scatter file so i can root my phone with sp-flash tools. (right procedure ?)
I have succesfully installed drivers.
But when i run the latest MTK Droidtool is can see the specs of my phone but on the right screen i get an error :
--- ERROR : --- TotalBytesPerChunk Not Found. Set default Page/Spare=2048/64 !!!
ATTENTION! File /system/recovery-from-boot.p which restore factory recovery in case of phone switching on in a normal mode Is Found!
Therefore i do not want to go further incase i should brick my phone with that.
Any suggestions wether it is safe to go further in mtkdroidtools or not?
Is Mtk droidtools working with MTK6595 devices after all?
Are there other methods to backup stock rom , make a scatter file and use SP Flashtool to root?
Any help is welcome.

Use SP Flash tool read back method. Links and video tutorials available on YouTube

Hi Mohammed.nomaan,
I could be mistaken but to make a backup of your ROM with SP FTools, i think we allways need MTK Droidtools , no ?
Correct me if i am wrong.
And why i get the error in MTK Droidtools ?
In the mean time i rooted my ZP999 correctly just by using a stockROM from Zopomobileshop.com (2 available), using SP FTools and Carliv reovery and Superuser to root in CWMrecovery.

Thanks - i looked this video a while ago.
But making a scatter file of your actual ROM implies you need to work with MTK droid tools. And this program gives an error....so not working with this phone.
Correct me if i am wrong.

If you sure that you are making the scatter file correctly, it should not give u issues.
Try to check the files in scatter and then readback the whole rom, even if its not rooted, it should work

The program gives an error when connecting the phone to usb. See attachment.
I do not take the risk to go further.
But i am rooted now with a stock Rom and Carliv recovery , so i am fine !

The Blue box on the bottom means you do not have shell root to proceed. It should be Green (Proper root or Yellow to get shell root)
Flash the Chainfire zip and try again, you should see a yellow box if not green but not blue

As a matter of fact , the previous picture was BEFORE i was rooted.
Now that i am rooted, MTK Droid Tools give me a yellow square with some additive info....(to get root shell)
So as i can understand, i could not use MTK DTools unless i was rooted , right???
Now it is no longer necessary to backup with MTK DT because i am rooted now
ps : what do you mean with Chainfire ?

I referring to the SU Zip file by chainfire that can we flashed to get root access. Anyway since you already have it just read here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58033915&postcount=169
Once you have shell root on MTK droid tool (If you see yellow, click on the root link on MTK and it will get shell root to proceed.
Then you can have a full backup of IMEI and stock rom to play around

How to root Micromax A25.

After lots and lots of research, I have now confirmed that the only way to root Micromax A25 is through the following steps:
1. Obtain its scatter.txt file and boot.img.
2. Make the boot.img insecure.
3. Use the scatter.txt in SP Flash Tool to flash the modified insecure boot.img file to the phone.
4. Then root with UnlockRoot.
So dear modders and fellow Micromax lovers, please help me and let's get this phone rooted. The phone already communicates with my PC. I think the drivers are auto-installed when I connect the phone to the PC. And Motofail was able to reboot it. One of the many rooting methods that I tried managed to install a battery saver apk on my phone but not the superuser apk and the su binary. Therefore I am sure that the usb drivers have been installed.
Now the real question is--- How to obtain the scatter.txt and boot.img file? Will the scatter.txt file for the Micromax A52 work with A25? They have very similar specs and both have MT6575. Somebody please help. I seem to be the only person trying to root this phone.
I also want to root My Micromax Smarty A25

We are together in this. I believe that I am very close to rooting this phone. We can't use UnlockRoot directly because it cannot access the root shell. I had successfully rooted Micromax A50 before with UnlockRoot. However, the process is not as simple as just connecting the phone to the PC an clicking on the root button in UnlockRoot. We need to obtain the rom dump or at least the boot image and make it insecure and then flash it back to the phone. Only then can we use Unlockroot successfully. I have done all that I can and obtained the scatter loading file. Now I am working on dumping/obtaining the rom dump. Do some research and please share here. I will too. If we obtain the boot image for Micromax A25, the rest is a piece of cake. And one more thing. Please upload the drivers for the phone here for other users and I would also like to check it out. Or post the link to the drivers here. Thanks.

That same rooting procedure was successful on my micromax A50. It should work on A25 too. I am never afraid of taking a little risk. I haven't been successful so far. I will try again after some time. If you want to revert back to its original state, you will have to unroot your phone with the SuperOneClick software and then flash the original unmodified boot.img back to your phone and maybe do a complete factory reset.
Hey please root your phone fast. And upload a video in youtube with detailed instructions........ please do fast man..... I wanna root it....

ok,sure.....
Download the following files.
1) Unsecured boot.img (zip contains unsecured boot.img + A25 scatter file)
2) SP.FlashTool
3) A25_USB_VCOM_Drivers
4) UnlockRoot
5) Original boot.img (You don't need to download this to root the device)
STEPS TO FLASH BOOT.IMG:
1) Run SPFlashTool, preferably as administrator (not mandatory)
2) Select USB mode under Options
3) Click Scatter-loading & select scatter file you downloaded from above links.
4) It will automatically load boot.img if it's in the same folder with scatter file otherwise click BOOTIMG & select the downloaded unsecured boot.img
5) Turn off the device fully, remove the battery for 5 seconds to be sure n re-insert the battery but do not power on device.
6) Attach the usb cable with PC but not with device
7) Now click on "Download" button on SPFlashTool, it will show searching for device in lower panel.
8) At this time, attach the cable with device in power off state
9) It will search for drivers, select the USB_VCOM_Drivers u downloaded from above links. You may have to go to Device Manager to manually install the driver.
10) By that time if SPFlashTool shows some error then don't panic, just make sure that there is no ongoing flashing process on SPFlashTool n if the device is showing battery charging animation then it's safe to detach the cable. Detach the cable n follow step 7 again.
11) Now as soon as u attach the cable to device in power off state it will show a progress bar in lower panel n then a dialogue which states successfully flashed n another dialogue showing green colored ring n stating Download OK.
12) Close the dialogues, close the program n reboot the device by pressing power key.
then use superoneclick and press root ....no need to install busybox, superoneclick installs it

[Solved] How to Root unrootable SpreadTrum SC6820

Model - Callbar A1
Android - 2.3.5
Kernal Version – 2.6.35.7
Software version – 2.3.001.P1.12065
Hardware version – P1
CPU – SC6820 (1 Ghz.)
Screen – 3.5” HVGA
I tried several methods such as DoomLord, SuperOneClick, UnlockRoot, Z4Root to root the phone but none worked.
Tried ADB to manually root the phone through commands but almost every command returns – “Permission Denied” or “Read Only System”. However files su, SuperUsr.apk, BusyBox were easily pushed into /data/local/tmp. Further steps like making local.prop and onwards could not be executed and returned above stated errors.
Also tried modifications by putting update.zip on SdCard root and running Android Recovery System but this method also returned error “Signature Verification Failed”.
Tried Nautilus on Linux Mint with OpenSSH while running DroidSSH on the phone but could not mount device by any means.
Scanned my device with ‘X-Ray’ app which reported that device or firmware I am using had been patched and is not vulnerable to any of the exploit available at the moment.
I desperately need rooting to remove pre-installed bloatwares and applications to free internal memory which is very less. I am trying to root phone for the last several days but every method has failed. Can any one help???
I have attached PDF file containing complete details of System Memory Map, MTD Tables, Symbolic Links, Directory Permissions and File Permissions of my android phone. I hope some one having knowledge of android system can help me by suggesting custom exploit after going through these details.

CallBar A1 SC6820 Stock ROM Available
UPDATE
Original Stock ROM of CallBar Mobiles is available on following official link.
Millions of Thanks to Company's Sales Head Officer in my country to whom I talked on Mobile. He was kind enough to spare his precious time and guided me to download StockRom and flash it properly. Without naming him on this public portal, I would like to tell that he is Great Person.
There are 3 Stock ROMs for Models CallBar A1, CallBar A2 and CallBar Tab7 available under the Modem Driver Download Section. The Rar File includes all tools and software required for flashing.
Here is the link
SpreadTrum SC6820 CallBar A1 Rooted
Successfully rooted CallBar A1 Mobile through ResearchDownload.
Requirement - Stock Rom (pac file) and CWM Recovery Image.
While flashing original ROM through ResearchDownload Software, I simply replaced the path of Recovery.img file to CWM Recovery image file. After Flash was over. Restarted phone in CWM Recovery and applied update.zip from sd-card containing SuperUser Files.
Its done.... Rooted.
Took me almost months to get success. I kept experimenting whenever got time. At one time also bricked.... any way finally I am done.

I also dont know much about rooting but after several tries i successfully rooted my SpreadTrum. (CallBar A1 Mobile). It was very difficult because I rooted another Samsung Models with much ease.
All methods for my CallBar had been unsuccessful, till I got original firmware. SO In my method, you need firmware first. If you have original firmware then write back. I would surely like to help you.
If you have CallBar Mobile then I will write the steps in details so that you can root your mobile. But as far as my knowledge is concerned all Spreadtrum phones dont root with common method.

Bro, you have a newer phone and people are still trying to root this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2500162
If you find CWM Recovery image which may be working for your Model then it would be better because I tried to find CWM for your model but found none. Any way... you may try random CWM images for your mobile.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2165554
From the above link you need some tools, software, images:
First of all you will need Research Download Tool so download Package Debug Tools.
Working CWM Recovery Image for your model. At the moment no specific is available so try Random CWM images.... You may try one after another image.
FDL files so download FDL file set also.
Remember, Research Download can revive even dead phone.
(Windows XP is better for using Research Download because SpreadTrum Mobile drivers don’t install in Windows 8.... You may try on both windows though. For me, it worked on XP so I had to install VMWare with XP on my Windows 8)
1. Install SpreadTrum Drivers.......
2. Run Channel Server (You will find in Debug Tools package)
3. In the setting select 115200 baud rate.
4. Run Research Download
5. Channel Server should have green light when Research Download is run. If not, change Com Port and Endian Setting in the Channel Server.
6. Open Firmware (pac file) through single gear icon.
7. Open the setting (two gears Icon). Make sure that baud rate in Research Download is also 115200
8. Replace fdl1 and fdl2 with the files available with you.... (Try different sets you have downloaded.... Hit and trial.... I would suggest you to try first without replacing these files)
9. In the Recovery row, replace the path of file to the CWM Recovery image file Downloaded by you. This is Custom Work Mode Recovery file. By changing this file, Research Download will flash CWM Recovery instead of Normal Stock Recovery. In case Custom Work Mode Recovery image is not flashed, mobile will still have normal Stock Recovery BUT without advanced features. But for Rooting you need Custom Work Mode Recovery. So try image suitable for your model. There is none specific for your model so you may try one by one after flash is over....
10. Go to the Calibration Tab.... uncheck all boxes..... if you dont, it may trouble you. Flash may fail. I was stuck for days on this step. Then I tried this setting and worked for me. One more guy has also reported to have worked this step for him. Another will report soon because he is also stuck on that.
11. Press Play Button.
12. Dont plug your mobile yet. Switch it off. Thereafter, plug in mobile in Computer USB while holding Volume - button.
13. Flash will start.
14. After the flash is complete, Reboot the Phone.
15. It’s should boot ...... Hopefully it would.
Now you have phone with firmware flashed with CWM Recovery Image installed on it.
Now comes the part of installing Super User files. Download SuperUser Zip from official web site.
16. Place Zip file containing SuperUser files on the root of sd-card.
17. Shut down Phone.
18. Switch on phone while holding vol(-) and power button. (Your model may have different combination for entering into Recovery Mode) It will reboot phone in CWM mode. Apply zip file containing SuperUser files from sdcard.
19. Reboot. It’s rooted.

I am not responsible, if you bricked your mobile in the process. I bricked my own handset once... But Research Download can revive even dead phones so mine was also brought back to life.... As long as you have firmware with you.... You make take risks.
Best of luck.... If you are stuck on any step.... Just tell me. I have tried to cover all steps... But some steps may require detailed instructions for newer people.

If you find CWM Recovery image which may be working for your Model then it would be better because I tried to find CWM for your model but found none. Any way... you may try random CWM images for your mobile.

I tried all available/possible combination of kernel for the processor/mobile. Everything Bricked my phone. So I have started the process of creating my own CWM recovery Wish me Good Luck.
Once I have access to working CWM I think I can go further.

[Q] [SOLVED] Android One bricked. Unable to even start the phone. Help pls...

Recently, I tried to install a custom ROM of Android L (beta), which bricked my device (Canvas A1).
My device Neither boots nor able to go to recovery mode or fastboot.
Pressing power button or Power+Volume Up isn't booting anything.
My bootloader is actually unlocked.
So I tried to flash stock ROM using SP Flashing Tool and it downloaded successsfully.
But still not booting.
Is there any other way to unbrick it rather than going to Micromax Service Center??
Thanks in Advance
Problem solved!
Actually, I had used an old version of SP Tools which didn't support MTK6582 scatter configs.
Then v.5.1424 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/canvas-a1/development/official-stock-rom-canvas-a1-t2887150 helped me out and I successfully downloaded the stock ROM in meta-mode.
For users who encounter the problem:
First, Install VCOM drivers for MTK devices..
Then install Android CDC Gadget Drivers.
Download the KitKat stock ROM.. (See instructions there)
Use SP Flash Tools v5.1424 from there to download it.
Use both 'download' and 'firmware upgrade' modes to flash.
Other issues after flashing:
Also fixed IMEI issues using http://en.miui.com/thread-10061-1-1.html (Needs unlocked bootloader again)
Fixed Wi-fi error using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2730486 (Needs root access)
Rooted KitKait using TWRP recovery and installed SuperSu 2.40 without bootloader unlock (doesnot void warranty if warranty present)

For users who encounter the problem:
To get warranty back by resetting flash counter, choose "Firmware Upgrade" in SP Tools, which will automatically lock bootloader and set flash_counter=0
You can check it by running the command "fastboot getvar all" in fastboot mode using ADB kit or tools in PC.

Root Samsung Galaxy Folder (SM-G150NS) 5.1.1 ?

Hello,
I hope someone can help me.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Folder (SM-G150NS, SM-G150N0):
- Android Lollipop 5.1.1
- OEM Unlock available via Developer settings.
- Model : SM-G150NS
- Build version : LMY47X.G150NSKSU1APK3
- I have access to Odin flashable firmware (via Sammobile)
This phone is almost 3 years old and yet I have not found any information about root solution for this phone.
While I am really skeptical about "one click root" solutions, I have tried KingoRoot but with no luck (displayed a bunch of popup, adverts and got stuck at 90%).
I have not tried OneClickRoot or KingRoot, if someone can confirm if safe. I will give a try.
This device seem pretty "standard" to me, I mean there is a lot of Samsung phone running 5.1.1 that can be rooted easily. I guess this one can also be...
The device is vulnerable to Dirty Cow vuln but it seems like we can't really do anything from there...
I saw this chinese website that have Odin rooted package : [Can't post it as I am new user]. But payment is needed. Looks like a scam to me
Has someone have any idea how I can root this device ? I will be very grateful for any help I can receive.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers :highfive:
Edit: I will seriously buy you a beer if you can help me with this...
Download this custom recovery http://ge.tt/4cO5xGj2
Flash the custom recovery, get the 2.78 SR1 Supersu zip file, copy it to the phone and install it from custom recovery.
Hi gsmDabbler,
Great find! Successfully TWRP and rooted using your method :highfive:
Thanks very much :good:
For the record, here is the steps I have done :
TWRP Install :
1) Download custom recovery linked above (unofficial_twrp_3.0.2-r6_novel3gskt(G150NS).tar).
2) Turn off your phone and start it in "Download Mode".
3) Open ODIN, click 'AP' and select the recovery tar file downloaded previously.
4) Click 'Start' and you are done.
Root :
1) Dowload latest supersu.zip version (currently SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742.zip).
2) Copy it to your phone memory.
3) Launch TWRP and install zip.
Edit: Beer sent as promised
Would this also work for the Samsung Galaxy Folder SM-G150NK? Just want to make sure I don't mess up my phone just because it has a different radio in it.

This file is a good replacement to an SuperSU file.
The actions should be done are:
- Burn (With Odin software) TWRP on the phone after logging in download mode,
Entrance to recovery TWRP >> Install >>Find the attachment, and just install it ..
Then install an app magisk, so you can manage the root

[UPDATED] Unlock bootloader of Meizu M5c and install TWRP

I am not responsible for any brick.
I tested this guide myself and decided to share it.
Make a backup before this guide because you will lose your data!
The unlock method has been updated and now you can unlock the bootloader more easily without the risk of bricking after an OTA and without changing the bootloader.
Now you can safely unlock the bootloader using mtkclient.
Link: https://github.com/bkerler/mtkclient
TWRP can be installed via mtkclient or manually from rooted Android.
TWRP Download link: https://github.com/XRedCubeX/twrp_meizu_m5c/releases
IF you unlocked the bootloader with the old method you can follow these steps:
1) Download the attached package.
2) Download OTA zip from flyme, link: http://www.flymeos.com/firmwarelist?modelId=70&type=1
3) Download the latest version of SP Flash Tool.
4) Download MTKClient and follow the instructions to install it.
5) Power off the phone and keep unplugged it from PC.
6) Open SP Flash Tool, select the downloaded package and select all partitions, then press the download button, don't plug phone for now.
7) Boot to recovery with vol +, plug the phone on PC, depending on recovery, TWRP or stock, use adb sideload or put update.zip in internal memory and install the zip.
8) Let the phone reboot or reboot it manually.
9) Now start the flash from SP Flash tool automatically, let it finish.
10) After the flash, unplug the phone and reboot into recovery.
11) Paste the update.zip in the phone and flash it.
12) After reboot, let your phone reboot into android and power off.
13) You can follow the guide to unlock bootloader with mtkclient.
FAQ:
A) But will I lose the data with this guide?
Yes.
Make sure to back up your data in any case!
B) But this guide is a bit different than usual, where is "fastboot oem unlock"? Or "fastboot flashing unlock"?
Meizu has not implemented an unlock command and in this case to unlock the bootloader we have to use a tool that makes us change the unlock status.
C) Are there Custom ROMs?
There is only one custom ROM for this device, the Lineage OS 14 but I advise against using it because it has a bit of a bug but I haven't had more time to work on it yet.
D) But wasn't the guide different?
It has been updated with a better method with more advantages.
E) My device is in Hard Brick! How can I solve?
There are various types of Hard Brick and it depends from situation to situation.
F) I have installed Lineage OS 14 but I am not satisfied, I want to go back to Flyme!
Flash update.zip from official website.
G) Can I relock the bootloader?
From MTKClient readme:
for relocking use:
python mtk da seccfg lock
Click to collapse
H) TWRP? I am interested in Device Tree, where is the link?
Here: https://github.com/XRedCubeX/twrp_meizu_m5c
I) I have a Meizu A5 (Chinese M5c) will it work on it?
I can't assure you anything but it could work, the only way to be sure is to test on a Meizu A5.
J) Can I flash twrp from fastboot?
Fastboot refuses to flash partitions, strangely, I don't know if downgrade or anything changes the situation but for now I was able to flash it with mtkclient.
I can remove the FlameOs from the Meizu M5c and install a custom rom. So far I haven't found any rom for this device?

Well, I flashed the stock ROM a second time, using the Firmware Upgrade option, and it worked. My phone turned on and I'm in the initial setup screen.
By the way, this Engineering ROM is the ROM you shared above? Do you think it is stable enough to be used? Maybe another day I'll install it, with care to not do anything wrong again

Yes, the ROM in this thread is ROM engineering, about the stability I can't tell you why I haven't tested it, the main purpose FOR ME was to get the bootloader unlock with this ROM, if you want to switch to ROM engineering you CAN install the flyme after installed the Engineering ROM but you must always modify the OTA zip so that some partitions do not flash but if you are interested I will talk about it in more detail and maybe I will give you a hand to flash flyme safely on bootloader engineering

Actually, the ROM I installed with SP Flash Tools was not the update.zip from the official Flyme OS website. I downloaded the stock rom from needrom.
I have done this several times before.
But now, strangely I can no longer update to the latest version. The version I'm running is Flyme 6.0.2.0G. I tried to download the update.zip file and install it manually by clicking on it, and it appeared "corrupted file". I also tried to use the Update application and "network error" appeared. But everything else is working perfectly.

Ok, I'll explain in detail how it works: In the guide you will have read that you cannot return to the flyme using the stock rom or an unmodified OTA. This is a tip because once you flash the Engineering ROM, the engineering bootloader (which is essential for unlocking) will also be flashed, but the problem is that if you flash the stock bootloader (the flyme one, the one you surely have when you get the phone), the device for a reason unknown to me, probably the Engineering ROM modifies something in the device (?) and then goes into brick if you try to return to the flyme bootloader. To flash an OTA flyme on TWRP, you must first have some precautions: you must take the OTA on your computer (or a file explorer capable of editing zip files) and remove the following files: lk.bin preloader.bin (it will have a name longer but you still have to remove that) and tz.bin / trustzone.bin. Done like this, now the OTA becomes safe to install, you install it from TWRP, at the end of the flash it will give you an error but it is because it does not find the files we have removed but we can safely ignore it because it will have successfully installed the flyme on the device.
Regarding lineage: I'm still working on it a bit and gradually I'm discovering bugs. I already warn you that the camera will not work in the Lineage, I have tried in every way to try to make it work but it does not want to go, I have asked for help everywhere but no one has been able to answer so I do not know what to do, for the rest I want to keep a little longer the ROM under test to fix the remaining bugs
