[Q] German keyboard on LG Optimus F3Q - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hello,
as my old Xperia Pro gets slower and slower, I imported a LG Optimus F3Q from the US, as this phone isn't available in europe yet.
Now I came across an issues, which I cannot solve by myself. Maybe someone here has a good idea.
The physical keyboard is QWERTY. When I hold some keys longer, a window will pop up to give me the choice of additional characters (like long on u will give me an ü). That's fine, that way was it on the Xperia Pro as well.
Now, I am used to QWERTZ, which is common in Germany. When typing quickly, I will mess up with z and y a thousand times.
I can change the keyboard style to German/QWERTZ in the phone's settings. Z and Y will be at the place, where I am used to. Fine so far! But.... (there's always a but): No window will pop up, when pressing the keys a long time. Instead of a popup to select Ü, U will be written as long as I press the key (like this: uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu). That's quite anoying! I tried all the other keyboard layouts, none but the English/QWERTY keyboard will show the popup.
Is there any chance to get äöüßéè ect. with the QWERTZ layout? Do I have to press some special key same time as "U" for example? Or is some specific app available for this issue?
Any help is appreciated!
Cheers,
doclouis
P.S.: I don't think, it's a specific F3Q issue, but for all phones with a physical keyboard. If someone found a solution for some othe phone, I will try it out!

Hello,
I haven't found a Qwertz-Keyboard-App that runs on my F3Q, but finally I got a solution: I found an App tp rearrange the keymap and simply switched Z und Y keys.
Still there is this popup-issue. When I hold a key longer, a popup will appear to give me the choice of accent letters (äöüßéè etc.). Still, the line of accent letters is not in the order I want them to.
So, is anybody out there, who can give me a hint, how to change the sequence of accent letters in the popup???
Cheers,
doclouis

Hallo
As I'm a german guy too this is interesting for me as well.
Unfortunately my F3Q hasn't arrived yet but I would start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2804980
It is for the Samsung Captivate Glide device so it may or may not work for the LG F3Q but it is a startin point so I would give it a try.
Let me know if you had any success (or not)..
Greetings

Guten Abend xdajog,
well you can give starting aid for publishing it in Europe by using the US of a certain online aution site. That's what I did to get it to Nothern Germany. There are Canadian online sellers as well who will sell and ship to europe an unlocked F3Q.
Tanks for your hint, I will give it a try.
Cheers,

I've already bought it - no worry.
Its on the way over the ocean
To be honest it is the second one I bought. The first one is in use by my wife and the new one will be a development device only. I will try to port AOSP/CM to this device. Check out my signature for all the details

Still important
Hello fellow physical keyboard lovers,
I just received a nearly new (well, refurbished, but looks like new) LG Optimus F3Q. And, evidently, I too am interested in having a working QWERTZ keyboard and would welcome german localization.
Did you - over the time that has passed since - solve those questions or just change the mobile phone?
Youtube shows several videos of people allegedly running Nougat or Oreo on this mobile, but the links are either not working or have been removed due to (I assume) malware-spreading. Am I right in not believing this to be real?
F3Q is rooted, but nothing else has been altered so far.
I am currently using a Vernee Mars pro as "main" device, and was using an Elephone P8000 until recently.

Hermes Keyboard Map

I flashed to the htc release wm 6.1 but accidentally did a foreign version. I flashed it again with the US release and it works fine except the symbols E, D, X, W, S, Z, Q, and A are not working correctly. They input a different symbol.
I went to do the keyboard fix...
"Goto the following registry entry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty]
There is a key called 'Layout' and it is in Decimal.
The default value of English ROM is 20409, and Chinese ROM is 20404 (both are in hexadecimal)."
...and the value was already 132105 (20409 in decimal)
I went ahead and changed it to 132104 and then back to 132105 but it is still not working.
Is there such a program that would allow me to easily re-map the keyboard?
Any help is appreciated!
schaps advanced config 2
Thanks!
I ended up just finding this fix a little further down the page...
"Issue: When applying a non-cingular ROM to an 8525 its default keyboard is different than the 8525.
The Fix:
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty]
"Layout"=263177 (decimal)"
...it works, but now the keyboard will not light up.
Is this an unrelated problem?
How do I fix it?

No it doesn't fix the problem, any other place in the registry do you know....? Thank you!!
Apologies for jumping onto this thread, seems the best place really.
I've just bought a HTC Hermes, and it has WM 6.1 installed, using it on the Orange UK network.
My only problem is, when pressing ! I get @, and when pressing Y i get Z.
I've ensured all language and keyboard options are set to UK, however I just don't seem to be able to change the keyboard map to full UK, although physically the keyboard is correct, just not the SW side of things.
I was just wondering if someone could help me, if you let me know where I need to look, i'll be able to help you, just not used anything MS based for the past 4 years, so its a bit of a foreign object now.
Thank you,

Hi there,
I'm actually new to Smartphones, and the Tytn / Hermes was going cheaply online (ebay unfortunately), but the phone itself is excellent and is easy to use from back in my windows days.
Most is familiar, but seeing how far Windows can go before I want to switch to Linux.
Where would I get the ACT? Is it downloadable from here as a development tool, or is it online needing payments etc?
Thank you,
greee, u can get it at schaps website here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070&highlight=advanced
galaxys,
I've downloaded the ACT, along with a pocket msn, and neither will install.
Do i need to put them somewhere for it to install correctly? Just i'm only getting access to my memory card.
Thank you,

Both should install on main memory.
Are you getting an error when the don't install?
So far kareem, i'm getting an XML output for the ACT, and for Pocket MSN it reports:
Setup Is Not a valid Pocket PC application.
With the ACT, i've no option to install, although the setup file I have was meant to be a cab file.
Thank you,
Scratch all that, got both PocketMSN and ACT installed today! For some reason the keyboard was in German, so switched that back!
Thanks guys!
Now got to find uber cool stuffs for my phone...

= Solved = Can you get a Rhodium to work like a Raphael in Japan?

Hi there!
I apoplogize if my Google-Fu is weak and something similar has been posted before, but I personally couldn't find it, so here it goes:
I am in a little bit of a tigh spot atm.
Here comes the sob story, feel free to skip this to get to the actual question at hand:
I am currently on Softbank in Japan, want to get a HTC smartphone (not the dumbed down stuff they try to sell you here) so the plan WAS as follows:
1. Get an unlocked Touch Pro
2. Get the Full Data Flat Rate
3. Setup the open.softbank connection, MMSLite and all the other good stuff posted here by guys who gave a total noob the confidence that it can be made to work
So the Touch Pro was ordered, the subscription changed (will be effective of September 11th - yeah, I know, ominous date *sigh), the neccessary .cab files downloaded and anticipation set in.
Today I got the bad news that the online store that sold me the Raphael was actually out of stock (despite the fact that it doesn't show up on their website, they confirmed the order and I made the payment last friday). After having an attorney in our company threaten them that he would have all their bank accounts frozen if they didn't refund me within an hour I got the cash back within 10 minutes, so no money lost.
BUT
As far as I can search, I cannot find an online store that will actually sell you a Raphael for less than 100.000 Yen or thereabouts, yet Rhodiums are in abundance and at an expectable price of 80.000 - 90.000 Yen (that is what I could dig up on short notice). So it looks as if I "have to" get a Rhodium, since I physically refuse to fork over that much money for a Raphael.
Now for the actual matter at hand for those who are busy:
From what I can tell the bright heads here have been able to get a Raphael to work near perfect in Japan (i.e. use the flat-rate properly, get MMS to work via MMSLite303, read and write Japanese etc.) BUT apparently the same cannot be said for the Rhodium from what I could gather with my possibly weak Google-Fu. The connection set-up seems to work but regarding MMS and Japanese input everything appears to be still under development. I know it will get fixed eventually, (still, I want to be able to confidently step up to the iSheep surrounding me and laugh in their face )
So what's the current status on getting a Rhodium to work the same way as a Raphael on Softbank in Japan?
Any help will be highly appreciated!
EDIT
Yes, it is possible. Got the phone yesterday, set up everything and it works like a charm. So if you are in the market for a Rhodium in Japan: Do it!
And once you're finishied, be nice and say thank you to all the people who racked their brains and originally came up with the solution and then put it into nice and easy .cab files like BeeGee_Tokyo, Shunsai, Larsuck, Asukal and many many more

Check my website. All I wrote there is at the moment working on my TOPAZ aka Diamond 2 under WM 6.1.
Should be no problem to apply the same to a Rhodium.
Yeah, BeeGee's site was pretty helpful to me (i'm using the rhodium in japan too btw).
i haven't gotten my first bill yet since independently changing from Softbank X01HT to an unbranded HTC Touch Pro 2 (i don't actually use internet on my phone anyway), but i'm pretty sure it will be no different than normal. i just popped in the sim, ran the softbank connection setup cab, and i have been able to send and receive MMS and SMS messages and phone calls no problem (well, setting up the Softbank MMS is a little intuitive).
it was a little tricky for me getting Japanese input/output to work, but i detailed my steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550605
there are a few other users in these forums somewhere in the same boat as us, and i think quite a few of them have gotten theirs working without much problem.
Thanks for all the great info!
@BeeGee_Tokyo: I am actually very aware of your website and the cool step-by-step guide it provides. Really understandable. Big *thumbs up* for taking your time to write it
@shunsai: Yupp, I also read your thread prior to posting. However, I got a little bit confused in the end since there was (at least for my n00bish self) no real conclusion how you can get everything regarding Japanese input to work properly. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the time and effort that went into it, but the results appear to be inconclusive. Especially since it ended in a hard reset, which afaik sets you back to your basic rom.
Ok, enough kissing up After doing a little bit of cross referencing between several threads and BeeGee_Tokyo's page I have a few questions left regarding the Japanese input. I hope I don't appear as kind of a thicko, but I'd like to know what I am getting myself into since this will be a first for me:
1. The .cab provided BeeGee_Tokyo's page for Japanese input seems to comprise Asukal's LetsJapanWM6 (not entirely sure about the name) and the Ooki Japanese Input. Is that correct? If not: Please correct me an I WILL edit this post.
2. Unfortunately I couldn't find anything in Shunsai's thread regarding the interaction between the Ooki Input and the TP2 apart from something along the line of "Good, but not as good as a new piece of software could be" (briefly summarized, not quoted!). Anybody have any experience in that department?
What I would like to end up with when all is said and done is the following (rearding Japanese input):
- Be able to read Japanese
- Hardware keyboard still works for English/Romanji with all keys intact (Text prediction and/or XT9 are optional)
- Software keyboards to input Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji (don't really need it often, so using the stylus to input Japanese would be fine).
So in the end it boils down to this: Is there anybody who has successfully achieved the above on a TP2 with the .cab provided by BeeGee_Tokyo, i.e. LetsJapan and Ooki Input?
Again, thanks for all your help!

you are complete correct. I mixed Asukal's LetsJapanWM6 with Ooki Japanese Input. I love Ooki's solution, because it forces me to write Katakana, Hiragana and Kanji with the correct strokes

At least I was successfull Otherwise I would not share my solution
And another guy here in Japan contacted me and together we setup his Xperia X1 with my cabs.
And I setup my IT guys TouchPro with my cabs as well, and his keyboard is working for English/Romanji.
AND!!! ALL CREDITS FOR MY CABS GO TO THE CRACKS HERE ON XDA-DEVELOPER!!! All I did was putting together the pieces to an solution.

you've inspired me to clean up my thread. it seems that a lot of people passing by that thread didn't understand that i was finally able to figure out how to 1) be able to read japanese 2) write japanese 3) use both software and hardware keyboard to input japanese and english.
the hard reset you're referring to was just how my intial experimenting ended. the part after that (the highlights) is the actual steps/solution. but thanks, i realize now how unclear that was! LOL
i'll fix it in that thread later [fixed], but to do what you want to do on your TP2 you should do the following:
1. install Asukal LetsJapan6 and restart
2. install Asukal's IME_31J_FULL, but do not restart
3. install Asukal's Enable_IME and restart
that simple. romaji, kana, kanji, kensaku, tegaki (the handwriting recognition inputs) will all work. XT9/Predictive will be broken. And you will need to switch between かな カナ or 英数 on the soft keyboard to get the hardware keyboard to type in the language you want.
Okay, I'm so thouroughly convinced that I ordered the Rhodium today (should arrive on Monday) and plundered brando for some nice accessories (should arrive at the end of next week).
@shunsai: Ahhh ok, now I know what you were getting at. Thanks for the update here and on your thread!
But I'll probably try out BeeGee_Tokyo's .cab first and if that doesn't quench my thirst for Japanese input I'll give Shunsai's solution a shot. Reason? Shunsai's solution is far more than I assume I'll need at the moment and involves more than executing a .cab. Still, love that you figured it out and went through all the trouble associated with it.
Thanks to BeeGee_Tokyo and Shunsai (in order of appearance ), the crackers who figured it out in the first place and the community in general for being nice to a n00b.
I'll report the results of my efforts and once successful will mark the thread as "Solved" for the further reference of future eager-but-unsure Rhodium Owners!
Reading Japanese only
Am I correct to say that if I only want to be able to read Japanese, I only need to install Asukal's LetsJapan6?
I would say so from what I have read so far.
Optionally can follow the instructions on http://www.ookii.org/software/japaneseinput/font.aspx .
Admittedly, I still have to test all of the stuff in this thread myself once I get my Rhodium, but so far, I would say yes.
Deleted. No longer applicable. ;-)

Help Asian Language??

I just recently purchased this phone for work only to find out that I cannot read Korean fonts on sites or email. Im not a hardcore tech or anything but I was told by HTC and Microsoft that it can be done but I would have to go through some third party application. Can someone please help me out with this issue? I really need to see and write asian font. Thanks in advance.
Have you googled?
http://www.google.com/search?q=add+korean+support+windows+mobile
Hi Mesquire,
I've googled like you've suggest and I found very first one with touch pro installing font into windows/fonts/ but I can't seems to find windows directory on my TP2. Is there any code to unlock the hidden directory or something?
TIA.
I've ran into these and installed to my Touch pro 2. (it says it's from HTC HD2) http://www.mymits.net/zboard/zboard....page=2&no=5757
Thanks to James Kim, it work fine as far as texting and e-mailing in Korean. (I've installed it last night and so far so good)
It comes with "Moa keys" and I was able to get some info from youtube. (I'm learning)
I've got T-Mobile and it's working fine, but when I try to send to my friend with AT&T, it gives me message and tells me try to send it without the symbols.
I guess it doesn't work if you have AT&T.
with some googling, i was able to read korean throughout the os.
heck, i was even able to change htc sense language into korean.
however, i can't seem to find a way to type korean.
With all the winmo phones out there, it's hard to believe that there's no easy solution.
Please let us know if you find a good input method for korean.

[Q] Greek SMS with 70 characters limit

Hello everyone!
I have the usual problem with the system limiting my SMSs to 70 characters when using the Greek alphabet.... Someone suggested on the Smart Keyboard forum (http://www.dexilog.com/smartkeyboard/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=970&p=4484#p4484) that HTC has solved this. But for me, the problem persists in a weird way:
-Of course I type in all caps
-If I use any letters that are specific to the Greek alphabet (Ψ,Ω,Δ,Λ,Σ etc) the limit stays at 160 characters
-If I type a letter that is common to the latin alphabet it drops to 70 characters!
It's strange, but I haven't seen much talk about this issue here, though it was a big topic in WinMo discussions (WM has the same problem).
So:
-Can someone verify whether or not HTC has fixed this?
-Does anyone have a suggestion?
Using RevolutionHD 2.09 with 1.72.405.3 .
Thanks!
T
Anyone?.... I also tried the IME mod v27 to no avail...
Goodmorning my friend,
Unfortunately my friend you have to use the ACE HELLAS solution for this, which is a "top secret" info, they will never help you out with this.
Had the same problem with my previous phone (HTC Legend), and ended up using SlideIT with Greek add-on, which I remember that worked for SMS (ofcourse always caps). Give it a try and let me know.
In case you really need Greek, and you are willing to come back to ACE HELLAS stock, I can Nandroid mine when it comes back from service and upload the ROM for you.

Good morning Kostantinos,
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply... I can't believe we're in the same s#!+ with Ace Hellas once more - it was the exact same situation some 4 years ago when I got my TytnII! Of course this is not the sign of a serious company (speaking both for HTC and ACE) since the fix should have found its way upwards and be included in the stock HTC ROMs.... but I digress.
I'm running a custom ROM, so I wouldn't want to go back to a stock one, but I guess that this could be rectified by just grabbing the relevant apk(s)?
Also, thanks for the SlideIt kb. I had tried it, but didn't remember it fixes the problem - will try again.
Thanks again, and have a great day,
Themis
I will let you know regarding APKs after I root my DHD, as soon as I receive it back from service (the blur picture left part camera issue).
Until then, you can also "dig" information and try the new Swype beta for DHD as well, but I dont think it supports Greek at the moment (not sure). If I find anything I will send you a link.
Yes, the problem is really frustrating, but at least the WM problem was a single HTC_ime.cab file, which worked in almost all devices. In Android it is a real pain in the arse!!! That is why I still stick with the stock ROM.
After 3 years of upgrading Android OSs, this problem should have been fixed generically, from the box.
OK, you can try here... NOT tested, but you have chances to work
Thanks - I'll take you up on your offer, so please do forgive me if I bother you with a PM in a few days
Swype doesn't have Greek - at least didn't have the last time I tried it, so it's a no-go, but SlideIt is good enough I think - it's just that it's totally different and i happen to like the HTC Kyboard
Was it an IME cab for WM? I seem to remember it was a keyboard cab. And it seems to be the same here - there are messaging apps (call me Handcent) that solve it with the stock keyboard, but there are also third-party kb's that solve it with the stok messaging app! So it seems it can be fixed two-ways... If I could help in any way with digging into the ROM please do let me know!
Oh, just got a notification about your second post in a row - wow, it includes Greek! Lemme grab it, quick
Thanks once more mate, it's strange how not more people discuss this issue (time to visit the ACE Hellas fora again after several years I think! ).
Cheers
T

Ahhh yes I remembered the problem with Swype: it FCs whenever you switch languages... so kinda useless
[edit] and, also, it doesn't solve the 70-char issue, it's exactly the same. Gonna try SLideIt.

My dear friend can you send me the HTC_ime.cab file or tell me where can I find it? I have the exact same problem with my wm6.5 phone! I don't want to use the solution with the remapped keyboards!
Number of Characters has to do with Unicode or GSM Alphabet?

[Q] Japanese Encoding Support

Hi,
I've recently got my HTC One X. It's the non 4G version with four cores, I purchesed it from allphones in australia.
One of the main reasons I got this phone was to help me study japanese, which I use Ankidroid for.
Anyway my main issue is that japanese charactors (Kanji) are appearing as their chinese varients.
I think it's some sort of failed attempt at this: "Google "Han Unification" and click wikipedia as I can't post links"
For example: 直 looks like 直
骨looks like 骨
It's really annoying and completly funked out. Presumably it works for japanese users of this phone? I'm using muliling with the japanese plugin for IME.
I'm a bit worried about rooting in case the Wi-Fi Antenna falls off or something and I can't return it under warently. It's serial number starts with HT24KW12....
I am interested in rooting though if this wasn't an issue.
Thank you for anyone that can give me any help, this is very frustrating and I can't seems to find any information that will help me, despite my searches.
Is it that I need to install a certain font?
Does anyone know of a way to do this?
