Screen On Time - Desire 820 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear All,
I just got the 820 and it is a great phone so far. I'm only on day 2. I came from a Nexus 5 so there is a difference with all the setup. One thing I can't find is the SOT with the 820. I can find how long I have on the battery once it is off charge but there is no where to indicate my SOT not like the Nexus 5. Please help.
Thanks.

go to power tab in settings then hit battery history or battery usage

[Q] Battery life - is this normal?

Hi all,
Posted this in another thread, but I'd like to garner some more opinions.
Brand new Galaxy Nexus, 2 full charge cycles.
7h 2m 3s on battery.
1h 15m 30s screen time on.
Battery now at 49%.
Top culprits - screen 48%, Android OS 22%, phone idle 7%.
This is a lot worse than I expected. Am I over-reacting? And how does this match up to other's experiences?

Sorry, I wrote the wrong phone name stupidly. I do, of course, have a brand new Galaxy Nexus
It's hard to say really, battery life depends on a lot of things - use, how much time spent on 2G / 3G / Wi-Fi, what accounts you have syncing, sync frequency, etc.
I would also say it would take at least a week of "normal" use and charging before the battery settles in, and you start to get a real sense of how it performs.
FWIW, I am pretty happy with the battery so far. It gets me through a day, which is more than what could be said about my Desire
Would you say the battery life is actually better than the Desire? I'm running CM7.1 on mine and that can easily get through a day
Battery depends so much on the use case ..
A friends charges his Nexus S every 2-3 days and I always thought "how he's doing it?"
I usually got about 18 hours with my phones so far and I would be quite happy when I get 12-14h with the new Galaxy Nexus and it's bigger display.
I think we've to get used to multiple chargers, portable charger or a 2nd battery until we'll see new battery technologies in a few years.

Possible way to extends nexus battery life.

For possible the first time today after I got my nexus for two weeks, my battery actually lasted a whole day from normal usage and this is how I did it.
Check your nexus's data usage and turned off background data for most demanding applications. For me it was facebook and swype. If you have any other application that continues to update and download in the background, it is quite draining on the battery usage.
If anyone else have tips to improve battery life other than rooting and updating to 4.0.2 please let me know.
Cheers,
On the topic of data usage I found the stock news and weather app (which I don't use) had used 160mb of data in a week just prefetching articles in case I wanted read them. Suffice it to say data got disabled for that appears. Anyway on to battery drain. The easiest saver is reducing the screen brightness. I have mine set at about 25% or less and the screen is still very readable but easily get over a days use out of the phone.

It has nothing to do with usage. Some phones have battery draining while the phone is idle. So even if you're not using the phone, the phone is using high amounts of battery causing it to drain while its in standby mode.

Question about current & battery after installing new rom

Just let the battery cycle though 3-4 charges and you will start to see a noticeable difference in battery life. Stay clear of battery calibration apps - they just screw up your batterystats.bin file

HTC One X - Horrible Battery Life

Hi All,
Recently switched from an iPhone to HTC One X and I am quite disappointed so far. Does anyone also endure poor battery life with your HTC One X?
I am not running much applications in the background either, if I charge my phone to 100%, I go to bed and wake up its 80% without me even touching the phone... and it hardly lasts me half a day without charging.
Does anyone have any tips to improve battery life? Oh, and my screen brightness is always at 0-25%... thanks for any help!

There are plenty of threads discussing about battery life, look at few of them to get an idea.
One X battery life is not great, but it should comfortably last a day (around 16 hours or more) with moderate use. But everything depends on what apps you are running and how you the phone. For example if you play graphics intensive 3D games for like 2 or 3hrs then it wont last much more than 4 or 5 hours. Other than processor intensive apps the other biggest battery killer is screen, you can’t get more than 3~4hrs of screen time with One X (but then again 4 hours on the phone is not exactly moderate use either). With normal use i.e: 1~2hrs of screen time for day-to-day tasks (browsing, email, texting etc..) and about 1hr of calls the battery should last 16+ hrs. Standby battery life of One X is fantastic, it hardly drops even more than 5% overnight is left alone. If you notice a 20% drop then there is something wrong. Go to battery usage stats and see which apps are eating up the battery.

There is a huge battery thread in this forum, please read through it. However, to start do as below:
Your overnight behavior is not normal. One X uses a 5th core and barely uses any battery while asleep. Usually with auto sync on I consume 2% overnight (usually 8 hours).
Install CPU spy and Better Battery stats. With CPU spy reset the counter before going to sleep and check the sleep % in the morning, it should be above 90% at 0 mhz. Check if it has several minutes at high mhz (800 to 1200 mhz).
With better battery stats go to other in menu and set custom ref before going to sleep. Check in the morning both kernel wakelocks and partial wakelocks. Check if there are any apps generating the most wakelocks . You could have some of the following consuming your battery overnight (I had all of these):
- weak wifi or data signal generates a lot of kernel wakelocks as the phone is constantly scanning for signal.
- some weather widgets have generated me constant wakelocks
- Facebook, Currents, Flipboard all of those constantly update and consume battery.
Also if your HOX is new at first battery life sucks. Believe me it will get way better after a couple of weeks.
try installing ther latest firmware (2.17). if you cant install then search install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970
works like a charm for me and helps the battery to last longer!

One M8 to One M9 for the sake of better battery life ??

Hey,
I have the One M8 and i was thinking about the M9 mainly for the battery.
I bought my One M8 about 7 months back and I've have been having the worst battery life. I get about less than 3 hours of OST (ON Screen Time) it won't go beyond that and I loose about 40~50% of battery in 5 or 6 hrs of standby time. Hell, this one day I charged my phone to it's maximum by 2pm and after listening to music for about 6 hours. I lost about 70% battery with 40min SOT with no call or texting.
Clearly something is wrong here. But... I don't know, maybe it's the LTE network or I was a Note 3 user before I got the M8. Maybe the 2days battery life spoilt me because according to Gsam
-battery life is 1d 1.8h (6h 23m active)
-screen On: 1h 46m (1h 44m MAX)
PS: I'm sorry I couldn't post any posts any screenshots. My phone is 100% charged as of now.
I tried everything from going to stock to custom ROM to different kernels. Turning OFF Google services (Google Now and location reporting), turning OFF mobile data, disabling sync, no GPS, brightness set to 20%, killing media server, greenify system apps and even maintaining the wakelocks using Amplify battery extender and even reading a lot of post on XDA to save battery. I still loose a lot of power.
Is this what 2600mAh has to offer.
Will the new 2,840mAh with 810 processor be any different.
Or should I just send my M8 for repair and hope I don't end with up a refurbished phone because I've had a lot of bad experience with a refurbished phones. I don't wanna do that mistake again.
Or should I get the Nexus 6 and get this over with.
Without screenshots, can't really help.
But you can battery issues on any device. The M8 has excellent battery life... If you stop any issues.
Read posts 1 to 4 in the battery help thread in my signature for help and you can read post 4 carefully and post the recommended screen shots there too. ?
Oh, sending it for repair isn't the answer. It's software related surely. And like I said, an M9 or a N6 can have issues just easily.
Learn how to setup for battery life and troubleshoot issues is the answer. ?
