[Q] Camera app missing capture modes after Lollipop update - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Recently updated my stock ROM for M8 to the Lollipop update.
I am in the UK, on EE. Software version is 4.19.61.2.
After a few days I was reading about HTC camera improvements online and thought I would check the camera app and see if I noticed any updates.
This was when I noticed that the 'Capture' menu which normally contains quite a few options, now only shows 'Camera', 'Zoe Camera' and '360 Panaroma'.
I read another feed where someone had similar problem, the advice given was, try enabling blinkfeed, update from Play, check no custom launchers interfering with camera, factory reset.
So, I enabled Blinkfeed again and I have no custom launchers installed. This did not make any difference. I checked on Play and the app is the most up to date version. So I gave in and did a factory reset from HBoot. Turned on and camera still the same.
Anyone have any ideas on what else I could do?
Many thanks for any replies!

Nobody at all experienced this?
I'm really stuck for what to do, is there any point contacting HTC?

T-Mobile 2.2 is here

Seems guys on the Androidforms are saying 2.2 is getting pushed OTA as of this morning...good news for T-Mobile users
Can confirm that, updating now yippee at last.
And me 30% in about 3 mins over WiFi
Camera seems unchanged. Controls still on the left (top). Can anyone point me in the direction of a definitive list of Desire froyo improvements/changes. Thanks
update
All done
We now have portable WiFi!!!!
Just out of curiosity, what sort of branding is on the T mobile desire? I mean is there any changed apps, boot screens?

Things I've noticed so far...
MS Exchange password no longer required
720p video recording enabled
Wifi hot-spot deffo there and working
annoying t-mo bloat splash-screen as well as the pink circle at startup
browsing on internet seems loads quicker - not tested speed for sure yet
Install Apps to SD
took about 15 mins to update and didn't erase anything, kept all existing apps.
Nothing negative yet
What are the version numbers? Radio?
ROM: 2.12.110.2
Radio: 32.46.00.32U_5.10.05.17_2
Only negative is the removal of the "privacy" settings - now has to be located using search.
Calendar entries lost...
If you get the 'You have no calendars'. Just go to Settings and Calendars. I checked my Gmail and PC - and they all back. With a bit of delay, so you might have to be patient to let it update it!

It seems t mobile haven't done too much
We still have a splash screen. And we have a new top apps icon
Well done t mobile.you said september and delivered without problems...
sticking with my rooted device, although the radio might work better seeing that my desire is a t-mobile
I root with the Unrevoked 3.21rc on 2.1, but now that I tried installing the 2.2 OTA update it's stuck in a boot loop. Any advise on how to get the phone working again?
Also just noticed a fix to the audio playback volume using a headset, it seems approx 40% louder and more bass. One happy bunny here

I've got a rooted Desire done with unrevoked3. As I understood it I could update using T-Mobile OTA and would then have their branded, bloated 2.2 and lose root.
I'm now reading that I have to unroot the phone before updating.
If this is the case, I'd like to consider updating to the vanilla HTC Sense version of 2.2, so please humour this n00b and clarify the following:
1: Which ROM is the vanilla one, I've done a search and must be missing something obvious!
2: Are there any downsides to having the stock rom as opposed to the T-Mob uk one, e.g. network performance, etc?
3: Unrooting - bricking potential?
4: Apparently the T-Mob rom is >80mb and the standard Sense one is apparently about 25mb. So far I can only find anecdotal evidence on the T-Mob forums to say the bloat is a bunch of irremovable links to 'top apps' (sigh), German voicemail and web TV things which I can't imagine are so huge. Am I misinformd regarding the 2.2 Desire sense vanilla size?
only T-Mo thing I can see in addiction is a new app called "TopApps". It just shows some T-Mobile recommended apps. Pretty useless really.
Apparently using anything other than Sense will reveal the other useless apps.
So, filling the device with pointless things then hiding them. Thanks, T-Mobile.
I've encountered a few problems prior to and after updating. For some reason unbeknownst to me I couldn't back up any of my messages (which means they are gone forever) also, Handcent SMS refuses to work now. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and it still just black screens me and then I have to reset my phone.
I'm not too pleased with the Tmob Froyo so far.
Mine is being awkward and won't update!
I download the update, it backs up my data and when it restarts I see the round circle and then it goes to a black screen and nothing happens.
I haven't rooted it, so I'm wondering why it's being annoying.
I wonder what are all those apps doing in the Manage Applications - Running? Some of them are widgets, but not all... I just restarted my Desire and it already fills up with Mobilbox Pro, Photoshop, Open GPS tracker etc... do they now start automatically?
Otherwise... Froyo feels really really good! mmmm!

[Q] Strange behavior of System Update

Hello,
I own Defy from week. Many times I tried to check via System Update in Settings if there is any update for my phone. After pressing "System updates"i can see info "Checking for available updates. Please wait..." and few seconds later window pop-up saying "Checking for updates is currently not available. Try again later"
For me it sounds like there is problem for mobile to connect with server with updates. Do you experience anything like this? If my firmware is up-to-date I would expect little bit different info.
Connection is established via WIFI, I tried check updates via GSM - the same effect.
Phone soft is not branded, no simlock, works in Polish Orange
Thank you in advance for any helpful suggestions
BTW
Is there any other way to perform update check? It seems not possible from PC but maybe I missed something.
I agree, the answer isn't crystal clear, anyway I don't think there is any available update yet, not until android 2.2

Thanks for answer. I'm not hoping to get Froyo quickly, rather update that will add missing Advanced Settings in camera options I mentioned in another post.
Regards
Yes, I've seen the other post and I must admit that I'm curious too about the missing camera settings.

"Checking for updates is currently not available. Try again later" = Motorola's OTA server is down?
I'm happy that I'm not the only one ;] In meantime I reset to factory settings to check if this will solve missing Advanced Settings in camera menu and System updates but it didn't help.

[Q] I relocked and RUU'd - now search is faulty and Google Now disappeared

Hi all, I've been playing around with custom ROMs on my One X for about a year and a half but was recently getting tired of putting up with stability issues and decided I wanted to return the phone to stock.
I relocked the phone with ADB, then ran the appropriate RUU for my CID.
The procedure worked fine and I managed to download the latest HTC stock update without any drama, except for one annoying issue.
The search function stalls every time I use the toolbar - the whole screen goes blank white except for the little 'working' logo, occasionally it connects to Google and responds to my search terms. Also I cannot find any trace of Google Now in the software, it has vanished from the phone. No cards appear on the search page and there is no reference to it in any settings menus.
What do you think the root cause could be? What are my options for fixing it?
Thanks

it is now called google search
Thanks for the reply but whatever it's called it isn't working properly.
I'm getting error messages saying "server access failure" and there are zero cards or location-based info being presented. I cannot find any reference to cards within the settings either. Would a factory reset work? Or is there someway of resetting or re-installing the search apk?

I don't use it actually but I've just tried it for you and seems to be working fine, loading up up relevant weather and location information.
Yes you could try a factory reset or try uninstalling it from the play store, but don't forget you are looking for google search, and not google now.
Press thanks if I helped you. Sent via XDA Premium 4
Thanks man, clearing the data out of the Google Search app seemed to reset it. Everything working fine now..

5.0 ruined my M8

HTC rolled out the lollipop 5.0 update OTA about two weeks ago in my region. I've downloaded it an installed it.
Now my phone occasionally gets stuck , for example in "Recent Apps" , it just stops responding sometimes ,and only locking the screen and unlocking it solves it.
But today I've discovered a new problem , when I use Facebook Messenger , the phone gets completely stuck! , it's like working on a 95' computer , where every click makes it go incredibly slow..
Does anyone else experience this sort of issues? Does anyone know how to fix it ?
I've been thinking about performing a hard reset, but I think all my data on the phone will be erased so I'm trying to think of an alternative solution.
Thanks.
FB Messenger is horrible on 5.0.1, I'm waiting on them to fix it as once removed Lollipop is fine
But, personally, I'd backup your data and factory reset it. Best way to get any bugs out left over from the update

I had the same issues. Mine is a custom rom but all my investigation led me to OS issues and not customization.
Backup your data and factory reset. After that all should be fine.
I am using messenger now and working fine.
Try disabling the "NuPlayer (experimental)" in developer options. I have read somewhere on here that it helps some guys with problems when using Facebook.
I won't know myself as I'm not a facebook user in general and haven't logged on there for more than a year now.
Thank you all for the help.
About the data back-up, which way is the best way to do it? Does HTC have a built-in function for it?
Yes, you can use the HTC backup or google sync.

Shazam app not showing "Connect to Spotify"

Hello everybody,
I hope to bump into someone with the same issue.
I got a ZE551ML 32GB, installed Shazam app, restored my taglist, wanted to restore Spotify connection, but I can't see "Connect to Spotify" option in settings.
It just shows "Connect to Rdio" - it doesn't check for the apps to be installed, so it shows that even if i don't have Rdio app on my phone.
I'm a Spotify Premium user, I was loving this feature on my previous Nexus 5, so it's a bit annoying.
Since I love this phone, I suggested it to some friends who bought it as well: all of them have the same issue.
This is still happening, since the day I bought my phone.
I opened a ticket to Shazam, they checked for the version of the phone (I live in Italy, phone is official WW version with 2yrs Italian warranty), checked for SIM card provider (I had two SIM cards, both from italian providers, H3G and TIM), checked for the latest version both of app and firmware. Nothing to do, "it should just work" they said.
I sent an e-mail to Asus support, but they replied they can't cover third party issues.
I replied that's not true, because on many new firmware's release notes, you can easily find something like "improved/fixed 3rd party app compatibility/issues", like for WW_2.18.40.12 release notes, where you can find "8. Fixed 3rd party app issue.".
I was hoping this was referring to my ticket, but no luck.
Opened a thread in official Asus forum, just one user replied having the same issue, but no replies from Asus.
It's bit old nowadays, but nothing has changed since then, even with latest updates both of app and firmware.
Since nothing changed even after latest OTA WW_2.20.40.63 and latest Shazam upgrade to 5.9.0-150904, I finally decided to go Cyanogen.
After flashing CM12.1, big suprise: installed Shazam app and... nothing has changed!
It just keeps showing "Connect to Rdio" but not "Connect to Spotify".
I can't figure out on which side the issue is.
Sorry for not posting sources but I'm not allowed yet to post links.
Thanks for reading.
Hi Soleinvisibile.
I'm in France and I'm having exactly the same problem. It seems like the problem just doesn't exist since I can't barely find any clue about this. It's quite incredible...
It's no big deal but it's quite annoying, this feature was the reason I used Shazam. It really seems to affect only Asus Zenfones so I just don't understand what is going on...
I know it won't help, but you're not alone! We can try to keep in touch here if any info comes out. Thanks for your attention. Bye.
Hi Cheumeuneu,
Thank you so much for your reply!
My post was quite verbose and I thought to shorten it, I guess its lenght wouldn't help to let the issue come out, as evidenced by zero replies since.
Anyway same for me, the feature was the reason I've been using Shazam, it's pretty annoying and even worse considering the lack of clues about it.
To me, the weirdest thing is that the issue is persistent across stock and custom ROM.
Did you root and flash or kept it stock?
Bye,
Enrico
