[Q] Google Play Store Keeps Crashing on Rooted Note 4, What to do? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Sprint Note 4 which is rooted and yesterday I downloaded Lucky Patcher and the Modded Google Play Store to replace my stock Google Play Store. So through Titanium, I backed up the stock Google Play Store and then I uninstalled it, since the Modded Google Play Store would not let me install it without doing that. I also cleared the cache and data on Google Play Store and now it just keeps crashing all the time. When I try to download something, it starts to download and then immediately it crashes and gives me the "Unfortunately, Play Store has stopped working" error. I get the error no matter which version of Play Store I use now, whether it is the modded or the official version. I tried clearing data/cache to Google Play Services as well, to no avail. When I try to restore my backup of Google Play Store through Titanium it stays frozen with "Restoring Google Play Store 5.1.11" and I end up having to force stop Titanium. This is so annoying! What can I do? Thanks so much in advance!!!

1) Go to Application manager/All, scroll down to where you find these three: Google Services Framework, Google Play, and Google Play Services. Force stop and delete cache and data for the first two (in order given). You won't be able to force close Google Play Services but choose Manage storage and scroll to bottom to clear all data. It's annoying that they may try to restart, just clear again and reboot quickly.
2) If that doesn't work, got a nandroid backup?
3) Re-flash current ROM, if no.
4) If stock and no backup, consider another ROM or start over with Odin stock tar.
Note: options 3 and 4 may require clean install.
Note 2: I've tried to suggest from least inconvenience to most; hopefully, the easier methods will do.
Edit: you may also see an option to uninstall update to revert to the original system application; consider that as option 2 or 3 for Google Play.

Ok I just did that now when I run Play Store it doesn't crash, instead it is says " Check your internet connection and try again" It seems as if it isn't recognizing that I actually do have a connection? I heard that if you go to the files on the phone to "etc/hosts" file and put a "#" in front of the second IP address in the hosts file that it will work but I just tried that and it didn't so I reverted the file back.

Also I tried going to settings>accounts and removing my Google accounts and re adding them but Play store still says I have no connection (which I clearly do). I made sure my date/time settings are right as well. This is happening with the modded play store and the official 5.2.12 Play Store.

YouTube randomly crashes now as well and gives me "unfortunately, YouTube has stopped " Google play store is still not recognizing that I am connected. I think I have tried just about anything besides flashing back to the stock ROM

Did you try step one again after swapping the Google Play versions? Worth a try, if you didn't.
One more thing: Lucky Patcher creates an Odex file. You should use the Lucky Patcher option to remove the Odex and restore the original. If you're ROM is deodexed, Titanium may not fix this for you. You can manually check for Odex file as well. Titanium is also useful to check for unneeded dalvik-cache files.
And one last suggestion I omitted: in recovery, delete all cache and dalvik cache and reboot.

Hmmm it is working now after hours of fumbling around with settings. Both the Modded and official newest Google Play Stores started working after I turned off "Google License Verification Emulation" and I had to turn off "Google Billing Emulation". Very stressful lol but they were the default settings and I didn't really want to mess with any of the settings as I am just starting with Lucky Patcher.

Was that Google Play version 5.2.12?
I flashed that to system yesterday and everything was working except that it didn't populate my applications and notify updates until a day later. I had to search for updates that I knew were available. Today, the apps populated and I got update notification for available updates. I think it may be part of the battery savings that lollipop is supposed to be bringing; less Google Play wakes.
Consider that your manipulation results may have been skewed by Google not immediately syncing the update.
As for my experience, I did find myself doing step one and considering flashing the nandroid but waited for applications to sync. They did finally sync this morning. The longer sync of apps may have been induced locally by the use of Xposed module "Recent Apps" which can be configured to force close apps and remove from recents, reducing wake times.

No, it is the Modded Google Play Store version 5.1.11 right now that's working but there's a newer version of it that is out. I'm getting frustrated messing with lucky Patcher (if anyone can help me with the basics of it? that i would greatly appreciate that as well. Last question I have is that in my etc/hosts file and there is a "#" before the second IP address in the etc/hosts file. Anyone know what that "#" is used for in front of the IP in the hosts file? Thanks again!!!

The # is used in scripts to comment out; meaning ignore that line in your host file.
As far as LP, there is a help link to read. Discussion threads on LP may get closed on XDA; LP may be a useful tool but leans toward piracy. Not saying this pertains to you but there was a thread that the developer participated in that xda allowed to remain open with a warning. That should be sufficient, unless closed as well.
Edit: found the thread and warning http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45933638, post 21.

Why not go to your time and date and turn off automatic time?
It worked for me!

Google Store Crashing but only when rooted.
Why is it that when running stock lollipop 5.1.1 on Galaxy S6 Edge is it that Google Play Store constantly crashes when I'm rooted.
When no root it works fine and dandy.
Soon as rooted the bloody thing crashes constantly..
The only way I managed to keep rooted was to use stock google play store and prevent it from updating.
This I can cope with.. If anyone else has come across this issue and found a better way to fix it please let me know

My note 4 lollipop 5.1.1 device has rooted but fix problem in Google play when I update big file(like no system apps) apps so when it's completely update after start beginning wht can I do it

[Q] auto app install upon device first boot

so i just ordered my gnex and had some questions about the auto app install process once the phone is first booted and my google account is logged in.
is there any way to stop the process altogether or kill the installs other than to go into the play store and start manually cancelling every app install?
i've got a bunch of apps installed on my current device that while i do want them on my gnex, many are older versions than what is current in the play store that i'd like to keep for one reason or another. i'd prefer to not have to allow all the updated apps to install and manually delete them then go back and install the older versions from my ti backups. yes i know i'll have to do that anyway but avoiding the initial auto install and manual deletion step would be ideal.
i guess my only other option would be to use the updated play store option of deleting apps from the webpage and just delete them from my current device prior to booting up/signing in to my gnex. i'm planning on wiping this device anyway so i guess that wouldn't be a huge deal, it just seems like google giving us an option to auto install or not would be best.
am i SOL on this? i've searched around and it doesn't look like i have any other choices but figured i'd ask.

[Q] Help! Need apk for original version of Android Market on Play

OK, I recently rooted my Play after promising myself to do it for about a year. I installed link2sd and was delighted to start moving stuff to my SD and freeing up internal memory which was perpetually flagging 'danger leve'l at around 38 megs free.
However, I got a bit over-zealous. I was trying to move the Play marketplace but failing - due to it being an system app that had had updates applied. I cleared the updates and converted to a user app, moving it to the SD too. Now though, it had reverted back to the original 'Android Marketplace' of course. So I thought I'd do a reboot to get it to update.
However, after rebooting it didn't seem to want to update again as I had hoped it would. No problem, I thought, and sourced a Google Play .apk (com.android.vending-4.0.27.apk) and installed it.
This seemed to work, as the Google Play store dutifully installed. All seemed well ... until I tried to install an app. As the download began, It promptly crashed with the message "The application Google Play Store (process com.android.vending) has stopped completely. Please try again."
This then happened every time I tried to launch it. Some searching suggested I try clearing the cache and data and sure enough this allows the store app to run again - however every time I try to download something it just causes the crash.
Obviously I've corrupted the installation somehow and need to get back to the original Marketplace app and try to get it to update itself. However, being a dumbass even though I had bought Ti Backup (with pro) I hadn't bothered to do a proper system backup :silly:
Anyone know where I can source an .apk that will give me the original Marketplace back again? I don't want to have to unlock the bootloader and flash a system image which is the only sure way I can think to fix it (I'm pretty sure that a factory reset will just clear the /data partition and won't do anything with the /system apps, which is what I have screwed up).
Thanks to anyone who can help me overcome my stupidity :good:

You don't need to unlock your bootlader to flash a system image. Sony PC Companion will flash the latest system image available on Sonys servers to your handset. This is what I would do. Next time don't move/delete anything integral to Android from your phone.
Cheers! Hadn't really used the Sony software much but will definitely give that a go. Next time I'll do a full Titanium backup too, before I start tinkering...
Strange that you'd even have this issue. I instantly Link2SD'ed all of Google's stuff... the play store updates, google settings and even Google's hidden services got the "get off my damn phone storage" treatment and have done a good job at bending over and doing whatever I tell them to.

Good news - I was about to reflash the system but on a hunch decided to remove the 'Google Play Services' package and my store magically started downloading apps again!
I'm guessing that there was some sort of conflict between the two. According to the description in the store;
"Google Play services is used to update Google apps and apps from Google Play. This component gives you access to Google Settings and helps apps speed up offline searches, provide more immersive maps, and improve performance.
Apps may not work if you uninstall Google Play services. You probably need this component."
Hmmm, everything so far seems to be working and a number of updates went through since removing it so I'll wait and see. Maybe the store will install a compatible version itself at some point, when it updates next.

root access with Link2SD is an absolute must for the Xperia - it's the best thing I've done to my XP since I got it and should have rooted/installed it as soon as I heard about it.
It totally transforms the usability of the Xperia Play. What on earth were Sony thinking giving the phone such a paltry amount of usable memory?!!!

[Q] Stuck and lost with Google Play Services - unable to update, please help

Symptoms
Google Play Services Error - receiving a message " An Application Requires and Update"
when trying to use "Update" , I get "Package file was not signed correctly. Uninstall the previous copy of the app and try again"
when trying to "Deactivate" i get "This app is a device administrator and must be deactivated before uninstalling"
this is now affecting other apps (Google Keep, Hangouts, etc)
I talked to Google already ,cleared download manager, did factor reset twice, no avail, same issue. their recommendation is to contact Asus
Yesterday I unlocked and rooted the tablet, same issue.
Any suggestions? I downloaded "com.google.android.gms.apk" but the system does not let me install it
Thank you in advance , I am stuck for over 3 weeks
You can try going into the Google Play Services app, then force stop, clear cache and clear data. This may do it.
What you may need to do, what I've had to do, is delete the Google account off your device, then add it back. (A reboot in between couldn't hurt.) Why this happens, I don't know.
I suggest to flash a factory image, may be, there is something destroyed in the firmware ...
Just wondering....

I am not sure that I have any clever answers right now, but to clarify the problem, is this with Google Play itself not letting you update or install anything (without producing this error message) or is it a specific app that you are trying to update which is the only one resulting in this error?

It is both
a) Google Play Services require an update (which refuses to install)
b) com.google.android.keep (Google Keep) requires an update (otherwise not letting to open -" This app won't run unless you update Google Play Services"). when trying to update it takes you to the same screen for Google Play Services update which fails.
If it helps, the store shows me 4.0.34 section under "What's new" which I think is not the latest Google Play Services apk
Thank you
tried both...

I tried both (multiple times), as installed by Google Support and forums
a) removal of all accounts
b) reset to factory image.
c) force stop, cache/data clear
same issues
any other thoughts guys? is custom ROM by only answer?
if it helps, this is an LTE tablet
How about this?

I tried that too.. with noresults - may be not doing it right.

At this point I'd make backups and flash a new ROM (stock or custom LTE). Something's been corrupted that isn't easily fixable, and you'll save time in the end by starting over from scratch.
I would agree that it sounds very much like something is corrupt in the ROM that you currently have; I would have a browse through the appropriate forums and find a new flavour of ROM to flash onto your device.
I have also heard great things about Wug's toolkit but have yet to use it myself.... about all I *need* to change on my N7 right now is root so that I can install a few choice apps that would not run otherwise, but don't want to wipe everything just for the sake of it
removed google+ from my account, solved.

for all its worth, I solved it by reflushing factory image and removing google plus entry from my google account. no issues now. thanks to all who helped!
If that is what worked, I am glad you have a working solution I can't take any credit for suggesting what you had probably tried anyway.....

Well, i guess you have not had much problems with google, so you may not know how to reset google issues.
I find resetting google krappa is just as problematic as having to reboot windows. Depending on what proggys or updates are used. Ha!
Step one... remove google account. Step 2... in application manager go to all apps and select google video and clear cache, and data and stop app, all in order given.
Step 3 is optional but important as Google Play controls a lot of things that also get corrupted time to time. Do the same reset in google play store.
Once you have reset, start the troubled app, and login using an existing account with google. Once authenticated you should be able to set your settings and use the app.
If by chance you are using a rooted device and are redirecting downloads to SD, it may keep Google Video from saving to SD.
One odd thing that i found with a particular custom ROM that i use... i had to modify my platform.xml even further for media to allow some apps that have odd permissions that request fail to request Media not SD or default storage.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the help, but it was to no avail. Still can't download. I'm running civato's 4.4.2 build. I wonder if there's some type of missing app/something.

Ah, well it may be the kernel... I could never mirracast with his 4.4.2 build, but able to do so with his 4.2.2 build. Don't do Google Video so I can't verify on my build, but most everything else for streaming.
Were you able to download before you updated google video? I have found a number of apps breaking as of this year. Some I may never update because of Marshy Mellow compatibility. Too tired of correcting by restoring by backup , so I just wont bother doing updates anymore.
You can try Boeffla kernel 2.6 it is very stable and does work on stock and modded Touchwiz ROMs. If it don't you can always go back to Civato's kernel.

I deleted my Play Store...and more.

So, I'm quite new at all of this, and I understand now why you shouldn't mess with stuff you don't know about.
Now that that's out of the way, I'll explain my issue. I rooted my tab 3 with kingoroot, which worked perfect, but then I decided to go and use Lucky Patcher, which is when things went bad. I attempted to get the Modded Google Play store, which downloaded, however when it was finished installing, it gave me a message I didn't see, and tapped away from accidentally.(I think it was asking me to reset my device). I then left Lucky Patcher, and realized that Google Play was gone, no mod, or original, and so I reset my device thinking that's what the message may have said to do. Of course, I get back and it's still missing. It's totally gone. Not in applications manager, couldnt find it in my file explorer. I factory reset as well and nothing was solved. I now get messages saying that an application needs me to update Google Play Services..."Which your device does not support.....". So finally I tried 2 things: 1, I downloaded a Google Play store APK, which would open, then promptly close right after, and then announcing that it had failed/closed. I also tried to side-load google play services, which also didn't solve my problem.
Im still rooted with superuser
Now, I've looked everywhere on how to reset my actual android version(without a computer), and all I could find was using ADB to downgrade, then upgrade, which I'd like to avoid using ADB, since that just opens up more possibilities for me to destroy my tablet.
Please help me
good news! you do NOT need google bloat-adware to install apps from the play store.
interweb search: apk mirror
compare hash of apk to developer.
