[Q] Is there any way i can root my G3? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had this phone for like a month, and i can't take it any more. I need to root it. Every single root method i found, does not support this version, and here goes my question, even if i downgrade, will i be able to root it?

Yes, if you downgrade it to KitKat with KDZ you can root it, then you can install a bumped Lollipop ROM

Can anyone make Lollipop supported Root method, please...

If they could, they already would have. Revert to kit Kat and root

Alright, thanks. I found the original kitkat firmware, flahed it, rooted it and then flashed a custom lollipop rom.
I just wasn't sure that that when you change roms, you're build changes, as well. Now, i am.

Can You Remove Root Yet?

Hey folks
I'm on Verizon and I'm on day 1 of my 14 day return policy for my G3. I'd like to root it (seems like ioroot is compatible with Verizon) and tweak things, but just in case I find something broken with the phone, I need to be able to remove root in case I need to return it. Is this possible yet? Will a factory reset remove root? If not, how is it done (if it can be done)?
Bonus question: If I root it with ioroot and install xposed to perform tweaks on the stock rom, will ota updates still work?
Thanks

Sorry but i am going to borrow this post. I have the D855 and i am rooted via towelroot. Currently on V10a and i received an OTA notification. Obviously i could not install it so how do i get updates? TWRP did not list the G3 on supported devices.

[Q] How to root LG G3 D855 on Lollipop.

I was wondering if there was some method for rooting the LG G3 on Android 5.0 (Lollipop). I've searched far and wide on the internet but have found nothing so far. I did see that there were methods for the Nexus devices but nothing for LG.
Would like this as well. I thought I could live a while without root.. Seems like I just can't. :crying:
I think that you can find already rooted lollipop version on the forum.
For now, i nowhere found any root options.
Sent from my LG-D855
now it's impossible to root lollypop via purpledrake, ioroot or other programs but you can flash a rooted bumped rom.
I'll wait for this.
Same situation here.
Planned to use the pre-rooted lollipop but to use it you need twrp on the phone. To get twrp you need first root. So its a dead end, a points on b and b points back on a, both needing the other present first.....
Maybe if you flash an older kdz, root it with any of the previous methods, then get twrp on the phone and then flash the pre-rooted lollipop. Im just gonna wait for a lollipoproot without twrp needed.

I am on 5.0 and tried purpledrake (since i used it with 4.4.2), but it did not work, i also tried Stump and got an error too. With 5.0 the structure has changed and the methods for KK are different to Lollipop. So far, even with Nexus, the only way to root is through bootloader/kernel.
Hopefully soon we will see a method that can bypass this.
This is the method that works on the d855 by skin1980 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/rom-lollipop-rooted-rom-skin1980-t2936022

Yup, thats the reason why i downgraded it to KK. Downgrade, root and you can install rooted L.

Does that work then? I'm on Lollipop 20a on the D855. If i install the KK kdz, will it make the phone rootable again? I read something to do with the boot loader not reverting back to how it was before lollipop

Use this guide to downgrade http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
(you can flash almost any KK KDZ, v10x of course, but make sure it's for your device)
Root it with your preferred root method (i prefer Purple Drake)
BUMP it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2900614
Now you can flash the bumped roms you'll like. Just make sure, it's for your device.
lg g3 d855 5.0

G3 root problem [Help/urgent]

My phone is LG G3 D855 international model and I recently have upgraded it to android 6.0. However I am quite disappointed with the performance to its performance and would like to downgrade it to the older version like android 4.4 so as for easy root of the phone and flash fulmics rom. And a problem comes out- I cant downgrade it officially ! No matter I am flashing in tot files or kdz files, I can't downgrade. So I tried to root it directly and no matter what method suggested in the net , I failed to root my phone. Errors, errors, and errors...I am enough with errors and would like to ask for help in order to solve my problem. I genuinely want to flash the fulmic rom into my phone! My phone lags so much!!!!
easy

Do you want to make a clean downgrade to Android Kitkat from Marshmallow? From what I see, you're root. If you do not have recovery installed, you can install the official app of TWRP which does install the recovery. After that, download Kitkat official rom in format zip (look in xda threads) and formats your rom from the recovery. For example, the name of the rom for my variant (Lg g3 D851) is D85120G-Rom_Untouched_Stock_Restore.zip

Bought new LG3. How should I go about rooting? Update first?

So I bought a new G3. It'll be there today, and I don't know if I should update to MM first then root, or just root, twrp and then load a custom ROM.
There isn't any need to update to MM right? Since we're all here doing custom Roms, I can always just flash a rooted stock MM ROM right?

Its easiest to root LP and install TWRP then just flash a rom
Which model? Anyways, on my D850, I updated to the latest version (had to keep forwarding date after each update so get the following update, because the AT&T version wants you to wait a day between updates), which I believe was the Lollipop LRX21Y. After that, I used this guide for rooting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3129197
Note that the distribution did not have a "reboot" script, even though it was mentioned in the docs. Create an empty text file called "reboot" without an extension and type one word LEAVE in it, then it should work. Or simply pull the battery out after rooting to exit download mode.
And use this guide for TWRP (make sure you download the correct version of autorec from that page):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/apk-flash-twrp-autorec-thanks-to-t3081396
Sorry, can't believe I forgot the model. Its a vs985 and it was OK 10b. So I used stump and twrp manager. All is well now. Thanks all!

You are perfectly fine to do so on 10(which is kitkat), on lollipop or mm you can´t go down the same routine

About D855 Android 6.0 Root (v30a)

Greetings guys.
I am using Hong Kong version LG G3 D855 (32GB), with Android 4.4.2 (v10n-HKG-XX).
Recently want to clean my phone and re-flash stock ROM, and I noticed Android 6.0 is out.
I downloaded D855's "v30a" firmware here:http://lg-phone-firmware.com/firmware-Lg+G3-Tutti-41.html
And searched for root method around, but looks like there are no root method available, kingroot may be working but not sure.
Is my understanding correct?
If D855's Android 6.0 is still not rootable, then I will not flash 6.0 and I will flash 5.0. Please advise, thanks in advance!

But this will replace the official recovery with TWRP (don't know the meaning), maybe I want everything stock... I think I will install 5.0 instead then since there are no similar rooting method as 4.4.2 and 5.0...
