[Q] Devices don't see Wifi Tether Rotuer Hotspot after Lollipop update - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Hi There
First post!
I have a Note 3 on T-mobile.
So I had rooted kitkat using this method: http://www.galaxynote3update.com/root-tmobile-galaxy-note-3-sm-n900t-no-knox-counter-trip/ and had been using Wifi Tether router to have unlimited tethering while i'm at work.
I used this method to get to the new lollipop when it became available for my phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...icial-lollipop-n900tuvufob5-t-mobile-t3046295
and now Wifi Tether Router runs, enables the hotspot, but none of my devices can see the hotspot. I've tried the SQL thing, and someone suggested trying to set the encryption to Open instead of WPA2, but that doesn't work either.
anyone else having this issue or have a fix?

Hey, i managed to get it working by changing the SSID. For some reason keeping the SSID i used before the Lollipop update wouldn't let it be seen.

Pls am having the same problem... How did u resolve yours Mr gohanrocs12.. How did u change ur ssid?

Ssid is the name that identifies your wifi network, like Netgear 77, or Lynksys. It's typically the name your network wifi router comes with when you take it out of the box and set it up.
You access it with a computer based settings program that comes with the router allowing you to change settings on your router. .

Now UV got me in a maze.. Pls can u gv me a good link on how to do the work.. M not really a tech guru mate... Thanks

Try Google and youtube, you will find a bunch of stuff on it. Use your brand of WiFi router in search to get more specific answers.

Is anyone able to get android-wifi-tether to work on LG2?

I just rooted (teamepic cwm+root.zip) and installed the android wifi tether. Wifi tether is not working. I went to the QBKing thread in development, and see that others are having similar wifi tether problems. Does anyone have wifi tether working on an LG2 release? I am considering flashing back to a stock LF9 if sprint managed to bork the wifi tether with their latest release.
TIA.

After my laptop connects to the tether, I can't actually get out to the internet. It's like the NAT is not working. checking the IP stack on my laptop, I am getting the right ip address, gatway, etc assigned. Wifi tether shows the laptop connected. But I can't do anything.
I followed the QBKING video step by step (except using a different password for encryption). I have the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (LTE/CDMA) profile selected. I've tried some others in desperation, but none are working.
I think I'll try uninstall/reinstall of wifi tether, or maybe just use foxfi now that i am rooted.
go to settings of the wifi tether app if you havent already and set it to enable the security settings so that youll need a password on any device you enable to use your phones internet signal and that should work because i was having that problem with the wifi tether app on my evo 3d and when i enabled security protection that allowed additional devices to connect to the internet. on my galaxy s3 i havent had any problems like that cause i intiially started with this method and ive been up and running just fine and im in houston so it seems the 4g lte is up and running here cause my phone shows 4g at the top for signal and my pages load up on the phones web searches faster than when its connected to my uverse wireless modem. hope this helps you man.

Ok if you didn't already, try gnex gsm instead. Also does the tether app show any numbers moving or do they stay at 0.0. Make sure your version of the tether app is up to date as well. And disable wake lock is unchecked in settings
I had the same issues as the op. With wireless tether change profile to galaxy nexus gsm not cdma and you must use access control. Then you should PROFIT......

Has anyone had a chance to try this? Did it fix the intermittent connection problems? I am going to try it later, because wifi tether is still not working for me (LG8) using Galaxy Nexus CDMA/LTE and with the access control disabled. I am just curious to see if anyone has this working as using the GSM profile is counter-intuitive for Sprint.

I tried it and the wifi tether still doesn't work. Half the time I start it, it requests Superuser and "starts" but there is no SSID being broadcast and I don't think the wifi radio is actually turned on. Every once in a while, it will broadcast the SSID, and I can connect but the up/down data stay at 0.00kb. Other times, I can connect, and I see the up/down data slowly incrementing, but I can't actually get out to the internet (or FTP, or telnet or....).
I guess I'm just fooked until foxfi or android wifi tether for root actually release a specifically-supported SGS3 version of their apps.
My issues were i could see the ap but not fully connect or allow internet access. Make sure your using access control it will not work with out it. Also make sure you have routing fix checked and use auto not ad hoc.

*edit* I'm starting to wonder if this is an LTE-related thing. After a bit of testing, it seems like the tether works ok if I am on a 3G connection, but when I'm on LTE is when it won't work.

AT&T: Tethering not working after upgrading to ICS +root +LTE

I have successfully followed the process to root my phone and am currently on ICS with root and LTE. All features are working very well with the exception of tethering. I have tried the built in tethering plus a number of tethering apps (Barnacle, Android Tether) and all suffer from the same problem. My phone can connect but I never get a public IP address. I am able to use PDANet but that is my preferred options. Anyone else suffering from this same issue?
Did you flash the .111 baseband only ? ATT stock baseband doesn't work for tethering.
Sent from my LT28h using Tapatalk 2
I just now actually tested tethering and it worked for me. One problem is I had to choose WPA2 security and create a password in the hotspot settings, my laptop would not connect with out it. Even though I had it unsecured Windows kept asking for the password. I changed the hotspot security to WPA2, added a password and used that password on my laptop to connect, all worked from that point.

Yes, flashed the .111 baseband. In fact started the root process by using .111 and wiped everything. No AT&T firmware or firmware components on the phone.

Thats what it is supposed to do. The phone has the public ip address and any device behind the phone gets a private ip address. The phone is acting as the router.

Let me clarify. I fully understand how the phone acts as a router. The problem is any device I tether to the phone gets assigned a 169 IP address which is an invalid private IP address. It should be assigned a 192 IP address. This happens with every app that I have used with the exception of PDANet and that makes sense since it is running through its own modem adapter.

Locked doesn't mean unrootable, and the.233 Chinese ICS ftf is a real firmware release not a cooked Rom. So we have root and ICS not much else yet.....

That's because you used the AT&T baseband. You need the LT28i baseband. Just flash the international firmware baseband only.
Sent from my Sony Xperia™ ion.
but I followed the exact steps in the method for rooting it so does that mean I have to flash back to LT28i GB and then go to ICS root and do the same LT28i baseband to get the LTE back cause I do have LTE just not the Tethering and Hotspot settings. Because I mentioned before its rooted, has ics and has LTE but no Tethering or Portable Hotspot setting in sight at all within my ion's settings

Yes start with the LT28i firmware for the rooting and upgrade process. Do not start with the LT28at if you want tethering cause it might work but might not. Seems like there is something that just doesn't work right when going from LT28at to ICS even if you flash the LT28i baseband, The tethering is there just not seeing the settings for it.

[Q] WiFi Tether enable or working app?

Hey all,
Does anyone have a wifi tethering app suggestion? or specific settings to set on a particular app to get wifi tethering working?
I'm rooted using MotoChopper. I tried WiFi Tether for Root Users and I can get the app to start just fine but my the network doesn't appear to be broadcasting as I can't see it on any other devices.
I can't use the built in hotspot feature because it's not enabled on my plan.
I understand it's early in the development stages for the SGS4 but just seeing if anyone has a workaround for the time being.
Thanks,

Some strings need to be edited in the framework to change where the traffic get directed to so T-Mobile doesn't see you are tethering. Then you will be able to use the native app/toggle.

does it provide free tethering? or are you on a tethering data plan?
Is it possible to redirect all tethered traffic through a VPN and therefore circumvent t-mobiles tether detection?
E.g. set up an SSH tunnel with port forwarding on the phone and then set your phone as a proxy server on your PC?
Or, if t-mobile only uses user-agent detection, can you simply use a VPN directly from your PC? As all traffic is then encrypted, t-mobile should no longer be able to identify its origin.
im on my unlimited plan, and the free version is limited to a small bandwidth limit. 8 bucks for the full version and no additional fees.

VPN issues?

I'm not so sure its just my VPN provider anymore. I've tried a few different apps and I get the same issues.
I'm currently with Private Internet Access (PIA) and I've tried both their app and OpenVPN and sometimes it will connect on LTE but I get no active data transfer.
I have reason to believe its because g3 doesn't do ipv4 anymore? But that doesn't make much sense as OpenVPN works over ipv6 supposedly. Is this an issue with my provider or the g3? I can't seem to figure it out. Anybody else having VPN issues? Please post results.
I am aware I can use native VPN feature but I don't like that I can't use a knock code for credentials.
This thread might be of help for you in regards to getting VPN to work: T-Mobile D851 IPV4 Support
The two main posters in there are trying to get IPV4 to work on the G3, as one of them, The Pagel, was trying to get it to work for their own VPN apps.

The issue is probably that you are getting a private IPv4 address from the provider, as well as a public IPv6 address (LTE areas only).
Most companies are still running VPNs on IPv4, and some VPNs won't play well with certain NAT implementations, which is used when you have a private IP address.
When you disable 4G and eHRPD, you will start getting a public IPv4 address again.
As you may have heard, we are running out of IPv4 addresses, and provider using NAT and Private IP addresses is a work around until more people deploy IPv6. Once your company deploys a VPN on IPv6, things should improve. However, this could take a while as this is a major transition and in some cases will require software/firmware updates on network equipment. Also, some very old operating systems don't always support IPv6, so all of that has to be retired as well.
Anyone know of a VPN service that runs IPv6 that would work on android? PIA doesn't work at all
I ran that patch from the other post, and no luck. Not a single VPN connection works on this phone. I am debating if I should take it back, as a VPN is a necessity to me
Did you mess around with your vpn settings at all maybe you should uninstall then re install? Pia is working fine for me with ipv4 in fact I am posting right now from my g3 on the vpn.

I've thought of flashing it as I now live in an area where 3g and hspa could come it handy as I get either LTE, edge, or nothing now, mainly nothing.

Yeah native tether still doesn't work but everything else does. A few people have had problems but not many. I would suggest you make a backup before you do it because xposed is kind of a jealous lover and hates when you eye other modifications. But on the other hand it really depends on what xposed modules your using.

Wait still? Does it work now? Haven't tried to find out.
I think it's something with LG's android build. When i had my Moto X I could use PIA on LTE. I did not check to see if it kicked itself to IPv4 but that seems to be the problem. It works if you have the EPC T-Mobile APN set to IPv4 and connect through HSPA+.

ipv4 is definitely locked down for fast on this tmobile version but it is luckily a easy work around if you don't mind loosing built in tether. I have confidence that built in tether will be fixed for that mod soon but I am currently using my phone tinkering time (limited atm) on a korean port that wont require any modifications. Before I stop caring about tmobile builds ill fix it. Something I am sure a lot of people might find interesting is after my first boot on the korean port it is looking like I might be able to bring voice over lte to our phone before it officially happens.
Unsure if related to the mod, but attempting to access tmo account via tmo app yields a server error

Try this, no promises. You'd need a FoxFi paid version or PDANet to utilize USB tethering.
Create IPv4 APN and add ,dun to the APN type. Then use PDANet with the hide tether usage option enabled. I think I've managed to get it working for myself last night.

I know some routers can treat your phone as a USB modem, but I don't have one at home nor have I tried before. I know it's possible though.
