Verizon or AT&T? - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

im planning on getting either the M9 or M9 plus, but cant decide on which one to go for. currently i have a verizon M8 and it is VERY limited on custom kernels and roms. if i get the AT&T version, will i be limited to kernels and ROMs ONLY for the AT&T version, or can i flash kernels and ROMs from other editions as well?

I have att m8 and I've been able to convert to dev ed, google play ed and other roms. I've been able to try different kernels. Another positive is the data rollover.

So u have been able to flash roms and kernels not made EXACTLY for the ATT variant? Like the m8 has different sections for each carrier. R u able to flash stuff from the main thread?

Correct. It didn't have to be specifically for att.

ok, so im getting the AT&T variant. Verizon is just too constricting. i was only able to install 3 kernels onto it. where as the others can have literately a hundred.

T Mobile S4 on AT&T - Which Roms?

Hey everyone,
I'm definitley not a noob at flashing roms / rooting / unlocking , etc....Been flashing phones like crazy the last few years (s3,note2,htc one, nexus, etc)But I have one question that I cannot find the answer anywere.. I bought a T Mobile S4 which was blacklisted on T Mobile so I am using it on AT&T wtih full LTE.. Which Roms do I flash for this thing? Do I flash TMO roms or ATT roms, or does the kernal flash just matter? If this is a stupid question, sorrry! lol. Just don't want to brick this thing.
Thanks Guys.

Not trying to sound TOO condesending, but you haven't read much of anything in these forums if you couldn't find your answer to that. All variants of the S4 can flash each other's ROMs as long as you immediately flash a kernel for your specific device. You have a T-Mobile device so you will need kernels from this section; but you are free to use ROMs for the AT&T, Sprint, i9505, etc. Just don't flash anything via Odin that's not meant for your specific device, and don't flash anything at all meant for the Exynos version (i9500).

Yeah I know most ROMS support all Variants but I wasn't 100% sure. I must of been searching the wrong things....I was confused with the kernal flashing as well. I have always owned a Carrier Specific device and never have used an unlocked device thus far, so I was a bit confused . Thanks for Clarifying though! :good:
Infamous S4 ROM has an Aroma installer that will support multi carriers.
Look at the change log for more details.

How are you still using the blacklisted phone if it's blocked for tmobile? Thought the two carriers shared imeis?

I was going to say the same thing. If you're blacklisted on T-Mobile, you'll be blacklisted on AT&T. I have a blacklisted T-Mobile and any sim (even international) is blacklisted while in the US. However, in other countries, it works fine.

[Q] Which ARHD ROM variant to install?

Hello all, I've been following the M8 forum for a few weeks in anticipation of getting a new phone on May 8th. I have a bit of a noob question though, one that I've been unable to find the answer to myself.
Which version of ARHD 5.0 should I install on a T-Mobile HTC One M8? I've been following their thread for a while and intend to unlock/root/install ARHD within a few days of getting the device. I see mentions of the international version as well as different versions for each US carrier. My understanding is that GSM carriers can install international versions whereas CDMA carriers must install their specific variants.
If my understanding is correct and you are able to install the international version or the T-Mobile version, then what is the difference?
I appreciate any help. I'm not a complete noob when it comes to rooting and flashing roms, but I'm coming from a VZW Galaxy Nexus where it was pretty much idiot proof. I've been running the same ROM for so long that I know exactly how to flash it each time a new update is released. It didn't have specific variants because the ROM was designed specifically for the VZW Gnex. So I'm a little confused by the different variants and want to make sure I don't mess anything up a week after I get the phone.
Again, thanks to anyone who takes the time to help me wade through my confusion.
You can flash any GSM variant.
The differences will be whatever the carrier has done to tweak their version of the roms, included apps, tweaked settings, signal icons etc.

Thank you for confirming that. While I was like 90% sure, it's better to have someone confirm that for me.

Rogers is a GSM carrier .. nearly all the roms in the M8 international forums will work fine on your device
it's a good idea to update the software OTA fully before you begin the bootloader unlock / custom recovery / Rom flashing
Would that be the same for the samsung galaxy s5? If it's from rogers cause it seems like s5 has alot of models etc

The s5 has locked bootloader
So does that mean if I want to get back to flashing Roms and having the most opportunity, I should get a m8?? Cause the compaptability of Roms with s5 is limited with model??(GONNA assume that's what locked boot loader means)
Aside from ROMs specifically intended for CDMA variants (Sprint & Verizon) and dual SIM variant (if there are even any ROMs) any ROMs meant for the M8 can be flashed on your Rogers variant.
Aside from the exceptions listed above, the M8 versions are identical in hardware, aside from minor cosmetic differences like carrier logos.
You might need to update your firmware to run the current ROMs (s-off required).

Can I Flash Custom ROMS Which is for Unlocked on T-Mobile Version?

I am gonna buy a T-Mobile HTC One M8 from a friend. I want to use custom ROMs which is for Unlocked version. Is it possible or not?
Actually I want to use ROMs at One (M8) Android Development section. What I have to do that? I always used unlocked Samsung phones and don't know anything about this.
If you help till tomorrow, it's gonna be awesome!

Does anyone have a firmware flash that removes the red text from your boot screen ?

Does anyone have a firmware flash that removes the red text from your boot screen ?
I know there is one in the regular m9 section, but since its not posted here in the verizon m9 dev section I"am assuming that one does not work for ours with good reason since our firmware is different than theirs.
i have been searching for the same thing! its the last thing on my to do list for me honestly. i dont really know if supercid will work for us to flash international located in the remove red text aboot thread because then everyone else would be upgrading to 1.40 firmware and we would be seeing it around the vzw forums but i dont see it or any information about it...can anyone else chime in??
I feel like until HTC releases firmware update files for Verizon version then we will have to wait.

Speaking of firmware, is there an updated verizon firmware to 1.4xxxx? (Not trying to hijack the thread)

That thread does not list anywhere that it works for the verizon m9, it only lists international, at&t and tmobile as it includes international firmware. If anyone flashes that on a verizon m9 most likely their phone will be very upset and the owner may end up with a brick.
If that worked for our verizon variant I"am sure someone would have created a thread for it in our own verizon dev section.
You cannot flash a gsm firmware on a cdma verizon m9 and expect to not be regretting it lol. :crying:
In the last post on that thread someone even asks if it would work for a verizon m9 which with that being based on international firmware its pretty safe to say no it wont unless you like playing with fire I would say steer clear of that flash if you have a cdma verizon m9 or a cdma sprint m9 also.

There is an Asian guy that usually will port over an international firmware to work on verizon as he has done it on the verizon m8 I believe a couple times so keep watching the verizon m9 dev threads and you might see it, if so chances are Andy Bones will probably use that as a base to build a new version of his Fluent rom as he has in the past on the m8 which he supports the verizon m9 with Fluent rom also.
So basically if there is a way Andy Bones will find it, honestly his Fluent rom will give you the best and newest software you will find for the verizon m9.
There are a lot of good other roms but honestly most other roms just adapt to work on our verizon m9's where a rom that is made for ours will work better than one that is altered to work and where others may be based on firmware that is not verizon firmware and other roms many of the devs do not even have a verizon m9, just saying usually the best rom for your device is one made for yours and the the dev or devs themselves run your same verizon.
I"am not in any way putting down other devs with other roms because honestly they do not have to support our version they just do it because they want people to have options which is great, just try them all and decide for yourself.

I agree completely - anyone flashing firmware should be very cautious or thorough in making sure everything's in order. Trust me, I would never want someone to brick their phone.
Reason I pointed in the direction of that thread was that the Viper devs are saying that 1.40.xxx is needed for their 2.x.x ROMs. In fact, multiple VZW users are running v2.x.x on firmware 1.33.xxx just fine, myself included.
hmm we do need no red text FAUX aboot dont we:fingers-crossed:
No one have no red text aboot.img?
The ruu is out, just need a developer at this point

Will this change our cosmetic firmware number or did he edit the number back to be the original Verizon firmware.

I'll leave this here anyway because it's also got a return to stock aboot linked as well.
