How do I get my T-Mobile M9 completely back to stock - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm worried that I won't receive any OTA's. I've unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP v2.8.5.0, and rooted. Will I still receive OTA's?

You can backup with twtp before you root ?
You will be able to go back stock but an either an RUU, an official ruuzip or a stock backup will be required

[Q] Will I get official OTA update if I unlock the bootloader ?

Hi everyone .
I'm new to xda.
I have 1 question..
Will I get the official OTA updates from htc if I unlock the bootloader ?
Yes ! As long as you don't remove system apps (edit the stock rom) !
You can update with these criteria
Stock rom (with or without root)
Stock kernel
Stock recovery
Unlocked bootloader

Are you sure about that? I can't see how Play can be deleted without at least root. If it is deleted then a factory reset might fix it but be sure to backup important data such add pictures and music first.

Yes rooting is fine, what you need to do before installing an OTA update is re-lock your bootloader. This is because the OTA update will try to install through CWM or whatever other recovery you have flashed.

Read the above ^^
A custom recovery will never install a HTC official update, not even when you relock the bootloader !

I suppose most people with root phone will have a custom recovery. So the first step would be flash back the "Stock recovery", then only can update.

By entering the bootloader and then to recovery, if you see a sign with triangle and a phone icon you have stock. If it enters directly you can see its custom.
Not by checking the software on the phone. If its a custom rom it can be anything !

TWRP or PHILZ Recovery Backup Of Stock Rom

I have the Gold Developer Edition with Bootloader, SuperCID, and S-Off running on T-Mobile.
I am looking for a bone stock rom.
Looking for someone who is familiar with flashing recovery and making/posting backups.
Thanks.

So you need a stock backup is what you're saying?
I should have mine by the weekend, or Monday at the latest.
I can make a backup if no one else gets to it. Just PM me on Saturday if I don't respond by then.

Stock or near stock ROM

Long story short, I am rooted and s-on and running an older version of insertcoin rom. The TWRP backup of my stock rom won't restore and I want to use sunshine to s-off but it says I need to have a stock or close to stock rom. Can anyone recommend a rom that will work for me? Keep in mind that I'm still on firmware that is compatible with 4.4.3. I'm only needing the rom to enable me to s-off, then I can upgrade everything.
Thanks.

You do realize how quickly and easily you can switch back and forth between recoveries if you need to, right? Flash the backup, then switch immediately back to TWRP, then make your own with that recovery to save for later. Or you could just switch back and forth again because it is so easy. I'm surprised that there are no TWRP backups for you. Most have TWRP ones available.

If it just for SunShine S-Off purpose, just grab any TWRP 2.xx backup... you don't really need your device version stock ROM.

OK here's whats happened. I downloaded the nandroid for my carrier and managed to install it. Its version 4.4.2 and it detected there was an update. I downloaded it and it installed fine, rebooted and it detected another update, then the wifi suddenly turned itself off and would not turn back on so I couldn't download the second bigger update.
I've re-installed the Insertcoin backup and it's all working again.
any ideas?

you shouldnt be taking OTA updates in the first place if you want to Sunshine S-OFF.... the more updates you take the less chances of sunshine working

how do I get the newest update on rooted?

My phone is s-off and rooted and I have the vzw radios on my unlocked HTC 10. What is the easiest way to update? I have never had a rooted phone before.
I'm stuck in the same boat, you can either flash a custom rom, or if you want to remain stock you will have to restore to stock and update or return to stock and use magisk method. I'm lazy to return to stock

[Q] regarding the new upcoming update! (7.1.1)

Just a quick question, as you know guys this week Google will release the new update 7.1.1 patch. as I rooted my device I won't be able to download OTA update! I already have the TWRP, EX Kernel and I don't want to lose them. Now, Is it possible to flash the new 7.1.1 update via TWRP without losing the root? if so, How?
thanks in advance for your help

Have you considered just flashing the WETA ROM 1.1 which is based on the update that will be released ? I am running it with twrp, elemental kernel ON bootloader unlocked VERIZON phone . Everything works perfect. V4A is an added bonus .

Yeah. You'll have to re root.
I'm pretty sure anyways. Root is part of boot partition now I believe and when you flash the factory boot it's going to erase root

V and X are the same (X more for Verizon)...you can sideload no problem
You must TWRP Backup (Untouched System Image + Boot) before rooting your phone frist time
Then every time OTA realesed you
1- restore that backup
2- flash original recovery
3- update system
4- flash TWRP
5-Rooting device
Thats it
