RDF Discussion Thread for the Sprint Galaxy S6 (and Edge) (SM-G920P) - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6

Welcome to the RDF spotting thread for the Sprint Variant SGS6 (SM-G920P)
From @rwilco12 post
For those of you who don't know what an RDF is... RDF stands for "Resource Description Framework". In non-geek terms an RDF is essentially a specification sheet that details what the finished product will be. In this case the product itself is already out but any time there is a software revision it results in a build number change. Each build number has an associated RDF.
Latest RDF:
The "latest" RDF displays the software version our phones currently have OR it might display the upcoming version that is about to be pushed out OTA:
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SM-G920P-SPRINT/latest (listed as OF7, Android 5.1)
to monitor the page automatically for changes, use this extension: Page Monitor or Android app Web Page Monitor
[The RDF link is best viewed in Internet Explorer]
Thanks for the link @garwynn!!
Newest testing build found:
The newest testing build is found by entering the last 3 characters of the software number into this URL followed by .rdf and is indicative of a version being tested by Sprint (rarely the testing builds make it to "latest" and change presumably when bugs are found/squashed and version # then increases)
OFF http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SM-G920P-SPRINT/OFF.rdf (Lollipop 5.1)
Leaked test builds:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CURRENT STABLE OFFICIALLY RELEASED FIRMWARE:
Official announcement for OF7 from Sprint:
Sprint page for software versions -> http://support.sprint.com/support/a...pdateTheSoftwareVersionOnYourSamsungGalaxy#!/
GOTA link: (coming)
How to install using the GOTA link: (just like receiving the OTA push, will not wipe any user data)
Download the file from above, move to the SD card of your phone
Power down the phone, boot into recovery mode (hold HOME+VOL UP+POWER until the blue type appears at the top of the screen, then release buttons)
Navigate using the volume keys, select using the power key -> move to install update from SD (hit power), navigate to the file you downloaded (hit power)
Wait patiently, reboot the phone if it didn't automatically
(best practice for major updates is to just factory wipe before and after this process so all the cobwebs are cleaned out, at least wipe out the cache for all apps)
How to grab the GOTA link to share: (from Droid-Life posting)
Install the Android SDK, enable USB debugging (does NOT require root), (great video from @qbking77 here) on your computer
When prompted to download an update, immediately plug your phone into that computer (with the SDK installed)
From that computer open a command prompt and type "adb devices" which will start the daemon, then type "adb logcat" and hit enter (information will start spewing from your phone to the command window)
THEN tap the download the update button on your phone, monitor the information from the logcat and find the URL (should start with "android.clients.google.com")
Might be easiest to copy the logcat into a text file and search for it (capture using command: adb logcat -d > logcat.txt) as the information might be too fast and furious on screen to read any of it
Once you have the URL, please post it in this thread so we can put it in the OP
Full Tarball link:
Hey what's a TAR BALL? Is it cancerous? Maybe, but just do this with it instead:
Untar the tar ball and find the zip inside (firmware file) (may already be in zip form if grabbing from Rwilco site)
Best Practice is to wipe your phone in recovery; wipe data/cache/dalvik/system because you might run into problems after flashing (although you don't have to wipe if you are a very defiant person that likes to live dangerously with the potential for app crashes)
Put phone in download mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons, then press up when prompted), then connect phone to computer
Open Odin (on desktop) and place zip file in PDA/AP slot, make sure that re-partition is NOT ticked, hit start. [Reboot if it doesn't reboot automatically. Don't use mobile odin as it won't properly flash the modem and junk]
Now you will be on 100% stock with the 100% stock unrooted ROM and modem
Profit
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, here's the link for the Source Code from opensource.samsung.com. Usually when that drops, the OTA is released within a couple days:
http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=sub&sub=F&searchValue=G920P
to monitor the page automatically for changes, use this extension: Page Monitor or Android app Web Page Monitor
A lengthy build number convention explanation for Samsung phones:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356325
TLDR: 2014 = N, Months = A - L (ex: May is E), Revisions = 1-9, A=10, B=11, C=12.....

Just starting this thread as a place holder. At this time, I am not buying the S6 BUT I wanted a proper place for the RDF pages.
I'll monitor the RDFs for the S6 as well and try to keep tabs. In the minimum, I will update the page with RDFs that users may find.
The "latest" build is OCF as of 4/2/15

Honestly, if I could find $150 more dollas, I'd get the S6 64GB ASAP. I already have $150 gift card reserved for this, but there are so many projects I should be doing. My wife wouldn't be real pleased. Plus, I'd need another $20 for one of those pocket power bricks for when I travel. I mean, I'm okay with the un-waterproofness of the S6 after seeing it survive for 20 minutes under water, but that battery life is a real stickler for when I travel, which isn't super often, but real convenient to have 100% battery instantly in the S5. I could care less about SD card access, internal storage is always faster, plus I can finally download some actual larger games like FIFA.
Not sure if you saw it, but Dbrand skins already has a nice back skin for the S6 that might help with the slipperiness.

It looks like Sammobile has the full SM-G920P 5.02 0CF tarball available for download if anyone is interested.
Note:
Not posting a link, search for it yourselves.
I think its against XDA policy to post links to websites that require registration.

I'll gladly post any mirrors that go up in the OP as needed, ie, RWilco, etc. Not many people "that find the link here" utilize that tarball anyways, just devs and modders so they know where to get it already.

@mmark27 No updates for this? Very odd, considering T-Mo is working on 5.1.1 for their S6.

I really just can't pull the trigger on the S6. The RF quality over on S4GRU.com forums really are bad. Most folks say it's a touch less than the S5, which is already turrible. I live in fringe areas for signal so that won't cut it.
sent from an underwater dust storm from my Sprint S5

Everything but the cell signal is better. And it has been announced by Samsung that they're aware of it so I expect a fix when 5.1.1 is released.

Well, one thing I learned from the S3 and Note 3 is that the software version isn't always correct in the RDF. I'd be a little surprised if the next update isn't 5.1.1.

the 4.4.X update - discussion thread

http://www.tmonews.com/2014/02/andr...alaxy-s4-s4-note-3-and-other-samsung-devices/
Today, Samsung announced that it would be pushing out KitKat to a slew of its Android-powered smartphones. Although we’re not precisely sure on specific dates for T-Mobile devices, the 4.4.2 update will be rolling out from today.
Among the list of devices being supported are the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S 4 and S 3 as well as others. Full press release below:
DALLAS, February 18, 2014 – Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile) announced today that a number of Samsung Galaxy® devices will receive the Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) software update, enriching the Galaxy experience.
The upgrade provides a number of innovative, easy-to-use features that enhance the user experience, including a more intuitive user interface, enhanced messaging capabilities and updated applications:
· Location Menu: An integrated location menu enables users to easily activate GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks, while simultaneously checking the battery usage of apps running location service capabilities.
· Enhanced Messaging: Enables users to choose between Messages or Hangouts as their preferred default messaging application, and select from a larger assortment of updated Emoji icons.
· Upgraded Google Mobile Service™ (GMS) apps: Users can automatically back up photos and video and can open, view, rename and share Google Docs and files.
Samsung Galaxy U.S. devices currently scheduled to receive the KitKat update include select carrier variants of the Galaxy Note® 3, Galaxy Note® II, Galaxy S® 4, Galaxy S® 4 mini™, Galaxy S® 4 Active™, Galaxy S® 4 zoom™, Galaxy S® III, Galaxy S® III mini™, Galaxy Mega®, Galaxy Light, Galaxy Note® 8.0, Galaxy Tab® 3, Galaxy Note® 10.1, Galaxy Note® 10.1 2014 Edition.
Availability varies by carrier and product, with updates beginning today and continuing throughout the coming months.
If you have one of the Galaxy devices mentioned in the announcement, be sure to let us know when/if the update lands. T-Mobile isn’t always speedy when it comes to giving the green light to software updates on Android. Let’s hope these start to land pretty snappish.
Nice. going to have to Odin back to stock then.

Don't update, the bootloader might be locked. It best to wait for a dev to get a hold of the firmware and make it into a flashable rom that doesn't include the bootloader.

I am used to waiting to take updates being on VZW and what they did with breaking root with the Bionic and then the S4 fiasco. But why would Tmobile launch a phone with an unlocked bootloader only to lock it after an OTA update? It's one thing to patch an exploit, but to lock an unlocked bootloader when it was meant to launch unlocked I think would be stange. Again, I'm waiting anyway, but I think the phone will stay unlocked.
Not sure how excited I am for 4.4.2
No app ops. I can't believe google would intentionally remove a vital security feature. I guess we'll just have to add it back in

I agree! In fact, that's the first thing I thought about when I heard about the news.
We do, however, still have xPrivacy, though. I've donated to the developer and hopefully we'll see continued development including, I hope, a more user-friendly system closer to the way App Ops works. (For the record, I'm not knocking xProvacy; rather I'm pointing out that it could be easier to manage for laymen like myself.)

i'm guessing you are right. But you have to remember, it's not TMO that's doing it. It's all part of Sammy Knox initiative to make the phones more secure. If you have an unlocked bootloader, there's no way to say that your product is secure. We've picked apart the last 3 builds /na6/na7/nb3 of kitkat from germany, and there's alot of pointless crap built into these roms that will have to be pulled out to , along with the regular developmental crap that sammy puts in there for "Future Updates" Like fingerprints scanner perms and instructions, radios that will never be used, and something pointing to a backup antennae even though the phone does not have one (that's for the note 10.1)
I think they are being lazy, , making one huge TW Rom and then modifying it for individual devices. If you look at the S4 release and the Note 3 release, they are identical builds minus screen size settings and the addition of spen support.
Any idea when the TMobile update will be available? Sprint customers are getting theirs from today.
Some people from g+ are claiming to get the Sprint updates yesterday. Wonder if someone from TMO got updated too.
There is a complete silence regarding Tmobile update. Even the dog slow at&t has a leaked version out.
Apparently us cellular is getting their update as well.
Here's the link if any one is curious.

Apparently using Mobile Odin you can flash the update with rootkeeper and you keep Knox at 0x0 and get a rooted 4.4.2 (make sure you set it to reboot into download to flash the bootloader)

Hopeful
As much as I hope it is released for our phones, a single person who does live chats all day may not be the most rock-solid source. Any number of things could turn out to have happened, from misreading an information sheet before giving you said information to her being just plain wrong.
Thank you for posting this though, it is important that up to date information like that is made public. Its just that I'm not sure if one representative saying it is on its way is a complete confirmation.
Does anyone know how reliable these live chats usually are?

Not very reliable in this case since they are not allowed to give too much information out to the public. I posted a thread after I talked to one of Samsung's live representatives and they told me that the update would come in a matter of weeks. You can check my thread out if you want.

When I went to the Samsung Experience center to let them force the OTA onto my phone again to see if that would fix the issue, that tech said the same thing about 4.4 coming out, but he thought my freeze issue is hardware related.

Kit Kat does bring down memory usage, so if you use or want some of the S applications and features that Touchwiz has, you should see better performance due to released memory.
Theoretically that is, I've been on CM11 nightlies for awhile now.

From what I can see, there isn't really much going around for the find 7 QHD international or even the Chinese model yet, since most people are still receiving their pre orders (even myself) be patient and hopefully some stuff will start cropping up, there is a root method already though.
Hey,
I set mine up with AOSP 4.4.4 / root / etc ...
With the instructions here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53814021&postcount=57
Installed fastboot with this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
Seems to work OK, main issue is that the mic does not work on the speakerphone or when taking video.
Cheers
I'm on a Find 7 QHD, and have been running CM11 since Monday. I flashed the 7/2 nightly early this morning, and have been hammering the phone for the past 7 hours. No issues...rock solid...45% of my battery left.
While your mileage may vary, for me this has been a very solid ROM.
You can go visit thread in Oppo Forum too: http://www.oppoforums.com/forums/third-party-development.131/
I suggest you to install the recovery first (Gummy's CWM recovery), then root, then install ROM. Like DeadlyDa said, you can go download CM11 nightly (latest one) or Nameless ROM, and Gapps, and then flash them.

I tried rooting via xda video and no go I'll keep looking and if you find a you tube video that is solid, let me know thanks.
Oh my boy loves the notification light on the 7!!!! I won't let him touch it..... wwJoshDew (youtuber) posted a vid about an insurance company that is cheaper than all just in case you break a phone. It's 5 bucks a month, supposedly. I may check it out.

LolliPop for the Note 4 due soon...

Looks like Samsung may release LolliPop to our beloved Note 4 sooner rather than later.... but how long will the carriers take before turning it around for us?
http://www.sammobile.com/2014/10/21...te-to-android-lollipop-for-the-galaxy-note-4/
:good:
I will be shocked if we see it before April 2015 on AT&T. Samsung will have to massage it, then AT&T has to bloat it.
I hope I'm wrong.

I'll probably have sold the Note4 before it gets lollipop.
In 6 months of owning the S5, it was never upgraded to 4.4.4

4.4.4 has only been out for 4 months, you think you'd have it already on a carrier specific phone, and samsung at that? and with 4.4.4 being a minor update?
By the time 4.4.4 released, Sammy was already well into working on 5.0 Why do the work for a minor update when you could just go straight for the big release?

And? That means nothing. What is it you think you're missing out on with the 4.4.4 update? In answering that 99.99% of people are going to have to look up what the update even entitled.... Can't complain about not getting something that changes absolutely nothing in your phones functionality / aesthetics / UI

I was shocked when Verizon released it, they are usually really slow. ..
And to answer Techsavvy2's question, in Verizon at least, the GS5 4.4.4 update fixed many Bluetooth issues that were present in 4.4.2. But I agree with Tech's point in that new for new's sake is a little pointless.

I hope we see it before the New Year, although I know the odds of that happening are almost nil. I also hope Samsung adopts the new aesthetic as much as possible, though their current version of Touchwiz is much better than previous versions.
Hope so. Not going to hold my breath waiting though.
Good news

Terrible link. I can't read the article due to the constant scrolling as ads load and the full screen T-Mobile ad that I can't seem to dismiss.

Yeah it's pretty bad. You have to wait to let the ad load before the page will let you scroll downwards. I experienced the same thing. Give it 10-15sec to load and hit the X in the top right, then you should be good
Sorry about that

Thanks and I hear you, the news sites seem to be the biggest offenders.
At least it is good news
Hopefully as stated earlier in the thread it holds true for AT&T. Maybe they will realize with such a big OS release that people will want it sooner than later.
I have a feeling AT&T is going to delay it for at least a month while it figures out what features they want to disable to add in their own bloated, pay to use version of it !
Why is it called lollipop.....suckers.....
So maybe now a nexus 6 is looking good?
Good.luxk getting one.

For anyone else who loves the new design eLements, there is a great post here that allows you to install an L themed google keyboard for non-rooted devices. I must say, I've been using it for several days and I love it!! Totally appeasing my need for the new style.

Would the root injection method (can't find the thread, or I would post it) work for the base image? It was intended for less popular variants, but the exact method should work for this, assuming 6.0 doesn't **** the bed after rooting like that. I mean, someone has to take the first step...

Might up this to other servers to help since im 150 up and down and ill through it on a server or two of mine.
But root injection might work if we can root the bootloader XD. Unsure if I can fiddle with it because I/m only on break for now and back to work soon lol

Certainly welcome to do so, I couldn't get it to properly upload anywhere else. I'll probably end up removing it in a few weeks after it's made the rounds.
Well I took the dive into stock, and it's not too bad. Yeah, I miss Notifications Off and Emoji Switcher (LG Emojis look like dog ****) but I'm sure I'll cope. This coming from the guy that was "CM or bust" last year at this time... God I miss CM...
Has anyone tried using flashfire to run the update?

No it will not. Google added flags to the boot.img (both kernel and ramdisk) for security reasons. So unless the bootloader is unlocked, it will see that the system partition has been tampered with and refuse to boot.

Yeah, I found the thread and read about 6.0 root issues. Shucks. It's a bummer that such an awesome piece of hardware is held back with oppressive software.

it was a great deal on ebay at least $150 less than other G4s . plus all the band were compatible with my carrier in Canada.
Now i know why it was $150 cheaper. too much bloatware and too much blocking.

What features are missing? i am not too tech savvy. If i can update it to 6.0, it would be an accomplishment for me.

Off the top of my head, Verizon removed Smart Settings and the built-in LG theming software found in all the other models (god knows why), disabled the FM radio antenna, disabled call blocking from the Phone app to force you to use their own carrier-based call blocking service, and they also pre-installed their “always-on” Verizon Cloud storage app and Verizon Support & Protection app, which literally monitors every single thing you do on your phone under the guise of anti-virus protection, disk usage and “battery monitoring”. It’s awfully redundant as LG’s built-in software already monitors free disk space and apps that use excessive battery, but the only way to freeze or remove Verizon’s bloatware is with a rooted phone.
It’s a shame because the G4 phone itself is really quite nice and sophisticated if we were allowed to use it how we want.
