[Q] SIM card question. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6

I preordered an S6 and I'm very excited to upgrade from my m7. I read that the s6 uses a nano sim and that I may have to visit a Sprint store to get a new sim. Is this true? I kinda preordered so I wouldn't have to go anywhere near a Sprint store. -______-

When you preodered it, it mentions it will come with a new sim card. All the phones I have bought from Sprint have come with one installed. So you should be good and not have to order one.

just got mine. it comes with a SIM. even better, you can self-activate during setup. all you need is your Sprint phone number and your account PIN. it only takes a few seconds and you get an email confirmation afterwards.
no need to call or chat with a rep. no need to go anywhere near a Sprint store. :victory:

Yep am all set up and good to go. ??

You get one from the only place you can.. You get it from Sprint, it comes with the phone when you buy it.
Are you sure you are not meaning the SD Card? If that's the case just buy any one, preferably a major brand just to be safe. Also those are not nano, they are micro sd cards.

Yes I contacted the Samsung company and I asked if a Sims card or SD Card was required for the phone and I was told that it needed a Sims card but not a SD card
If you're getting your Note from Sprint it will have a sim card with it
The SIM should be included if purchased through a retail location or through telesales/online. A service and repair sprint location may carry the SIM card you need, but I would call ahead of time to check. Www.storelocator.sprint.com will show locations near you and list them as an eligible repair facility. I would avoid third party stores (those listed as "Sprint by _____") unless absolutely necessary. I know the SIM's SKU you need ends in 206R if that helps you clarify with the sales rep/technician you will be talking to in the near future for the correct SIM you need for your device.
Now if your device is displaying No SIM and a SIM is in fact installed (located directly by the battery to the left and is white with small numbers printed on it) then you are probably looking at trying to hard reset or replace your device. If you are within your 14 days of purchase, I would recommend just pushing for them to exchange it for a brand new one out of the box. I just saw this today and was unable to successfully fix the issue, though the person I was working with did not want to wipe their device until they backed their phone up to their personal computer.
Good luck!
If you are getting the Note 4 from Sprint, it will come with a sim card. If you are getting one from someone else and the sim card doesn't come with the phone, you can ask Sprint for a sim card.

Unlike T-Mobile, the card in the Note 4 is not a UUCID card but is an actual SIM card necessary for Sprints LTE side of their network. It even says SIM on the card. All Sprint phones that use LTE come with the SIM card when you buy them. There is no need to acquire one unless you got a phone in some shady method.

I am a store manager at sprint. I activate phones all day long. Its a ICCID card. Go to your about phone > status and under MEID will be ICCID and that is the same number that is on the card. Also if you look at the barcodes on the box it'll also say ICCID under the barcode and have the same number. When the card is only needed for LTE registration it's a ICCID hence whe you still get 3G and voice coverage without it. If it were a SIM card you would get zero coverage with out it.

Thats nice, too bad Sprints LTE service is crap on this phone.
Oh and my comment was about a UCCID which T-Mobile uses, not an ICCID which IS the same as a SIM. While a UCCID is not.
Its technicalally a UICCID Card. And Actually in Spark areas I get amazing download speeds and non spark areas i get a respectable ~20mbps down

According to the Sprint coverage map I live in the heart of Spark coverage in the North Dallas Area and I am lucky if I get over 2 on the down and over 1 on the up. It is like this all over DFW for me and Sprint says Samsung is at fault and Samsung says it is a Sprint/Tower issue and I am caught between them with a turtle phone.
In either case on topic, the phone comes with the card when you buy it. If it did not then you are getting ripped off or the phone has been stolen if you are not buying it new.

Only the Note 4 has this issue and Samsung has even released a tech doc to the higher level techs at Sprint stating this. But you won't know this unless you finally get to talk to a top tier support person like I did after three weeks.
Even though it has been stated though, neither wants to step up and take the blame as the backlash for both would be devastating to business.
The tech told me that samsung has admitted that some note 4 phones have an issue connecting to Sprint towers properly. The claim a reflash MIGHT fix it. I took it to my local Samsung service center who kept it for 2.5 hours claimed the checked it and reflashed it and could find nothing wrong with it.

I just remembered the last time i was in the dallas area, i still had my note 3... But assuming you are outside your 14 day return period, I would either ask for a replacement through the TEP program (free - if you have TEP) or through Samsung (you'll have to contact Samsung for this, not Sprint) if this is the case. The TEP replacement most likely won't be a refurb since the phone hasn't been out that long... Probably an open box return, which happens quite often or a rep grabbed the wrong phone and opened it, so it'd be a brand new phone. If sprint gives you trouble at the store level tell them to look at your account notes and they will see a note for each call to tech support. That's my best recommendation as someone who works in a sprint store.

I am 99% sure this guy is not talking about a SIM card since he refers to a good one and there are no good or bad SIMS, you get what your provider gives you. What I believe he is talking about is a Micro SDcard. If that is the case then just get any major brand and it should be fine. I have a Samsung 64GB in mine and it works great.

Verizon compatibility/IMEI

Anyone have the IMEI, ESN, or MEID number for the Nexus 5X(or 6P)?
verizonwireless (dot) com /b2c/nso/enterDeviceId.do
Looking to enter it in there to check if its "officially" compatible, I know it has CDMA compatibility but want to be sure.
I don't, but FWIW I called them today and they indicated (i) they aren't selling it but (ii) it will work on their network.

A simple way to get a nano SIM would be simply say you bought your buddies old iPhone 6 or Nexus 6 (Since both use nano SIM) and ask for one in store or if you're doing it over the phone ask for a new one to be shipped after telling that story. If you just come out and say it's for the 5x they might not give you one since it's not directly a Verizon device. If you do need to cut the SIM card down this works well http://www.amazon.com/Noosy-generation-Cutter-iPhone-Phones/dp/B009QTVG4K?tag=androidcentralb-20&m1k=d_ac
If you have any other questions feel free to ask !
Thanks, if I call Verizon and mention the nexus 6, will I be required to provide any specific numbers from the phone?

I went into a corporate store last week, told them I was an existing customer and needed a nano sim for a phone that I bought through a private transaction.
They asked me if I had the phone with me, I said no. They asked me for my phone number, and if it was an android or apple phone (?), I gave them my number and told them android, and a few moments later I was leaving the store with a new nano sim. No hassle at all.

No shouldn't need to, as mentioned below just tell them you don't have the device with you and you need a new nano SIM give your Verizon number if they ask for it and you should be good to go!
Same thing here, I'm a VZW employee and plan to use the nano sim from my iphone (ugh, I know) and slot it right into the 5x
Finally called Verizon and they are going to mail the sim, but I need to call and provide the device info to activate. Guessing that will not work.
Or you can activate a nano sim using a adaptor off amazon. They are cheap, other option is to cut your current sim down to size.

That's exactly what I did. I always get the smallest card available and use an adapter. Saves me the trouble going between sim sizes and activating.

Pretty sure its no big deal. As long as your a customer just walk in say you need a new sim and they will give you one..Im not even sure if they charge you for it.
The problem is activating the sim, they input details on the phone and it needs to be a Verizon approved device.

The usual work around from what I've seen in YouTube videos is they need to take a SIM from an device at the store that's already activated. Some stores know this and others don't.

When I sold my Nexus 6 to a guy on swappa he used the imei from a display device to activate his sim card on verizon I think. I can't believe that works but apparently it does. I wish it was that easy to bring a phone to sprint. On Sprint the imei numbers have to actually be white listed in the system which always seems to lead to problems on launch day. Due to these phones being compatible with project fi I am hoping all of those numbers are already in the system since they need to be able to work on sprint's network for project fi I assume.
Day 1 - Verizon won't "Activate"
Hey guys,
Got my 5X yesterday and ran into a few problems. Still using the old phone for now, but I'm optimistic.
Nano SIM required:
Went to the Verizon store since my S5 uses a Micro SIM. They gave me a Nano but couldn't "Activate" it (see IMEI issue). They postulated if you pulled a Nano SIM from an already activated device (S6, iPhone 6, etc) on your account it may just plug and play, but this wasn't available to me. None the less they gave me the nano SIM and I proceeded to call the tech guys on the phone.
IMEI not in Verizon's Database:
After 3 transfers I finally got to a guy with his head on straight and he confirmed the IMEI isn't in Verizon's database (Deja vu anyone?). We spent a bit of time reviewing the 5X specs (bands) and he confirmed there is no reason why it shouldn't be allowed. Something tells me Big Red intentionally didn't import the device into their database in advance out of spite of the good ole Nexus history. Tech Support was very positive though and placed a request with the big wigs to add the device to the database and allow me to activate as a "new device". Hoping to get a response in the next 24-72 hours. Looks like my 18 years of loyal (Verizon) service is getting more pushing power than I did with the Nexus 5...
I'll keep you guys posted.

Hi man. Dude just find a phone that uses the nano sim. Activate your new sim and put it in the 5X.
I have Verizon and Had the Sony Z3V which uses a Nano sim. I simply pulled the sim out of my Z3v and put it in my 5X. Been using it since Tuesday perfectly. Love the phone on The best COVERAGE network
Pulled the nano Sim from my iPhone and plugged it into the Nexus with no issues. VZW seems to recognize it On my Verizon as an LG device as well
I'm a VZW customer and when the device arrived I called CS. They said the device is on their whitelist and he could send me a SIM. I said that I would drive over to the store and get one. I showed up at a corporate store and 5 minutes after being helped my phone has been on VZW without any issues.

International Unlocked Note 7 with AT&T

First and foremost, I'm a noob.
Anyways, I'm giving this whole Android thing a go for the third time. I had an S7 and an S7 Edge, both were great phones but they were also carrier versions. I've owned pretty much everything Apple and coming to the realization that Apple is dropping the ball. It's time to switch it up.
I ordered an International Unlocked 930F Note 7 and I'm currently with AT&T. After researching, I'm aware that I'll be losing a few things like Samsung Pay and VoLTE. Few questions I have: When the Note comes in the mail, shall I remove the SIM out of my iPhone SE and insert it into the new phone? Or go to an AT&T store and ask for another SIM?
Your feedback/suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Someone will correct me if I am wrong but I don't believe you will lose Samsung Pay. It should work. And yes, just plug your SIM (if its a nano) and go. I plan on getting the same phone and I had the S7 Edge international version and it worked fine on AT&T. I never tried Samsung pay though.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Not too worried about Samsung Pay, as I don't even use Apple Pay. But the VoLTE is what I'm mainly concerned about.
Also what about visual voicemail? I understand it can be downloaded from Google Play, but will it still work and keep my same greeting, etc..?
Brings me to next question: Samsungs website offers the micro SD card as a free gift when purchasing the phone, do you know if they honor purchases from eBay and/or international devices?
Yeah I don't use Samsung pay either. Not sure about VoLTE.
Visual voice mail works fine. Just download the app from the Play Store like you said but not sure about the greeting. Don't know if that stored in the app or on AT&T's server.
From what I've been reading, when you register your phone, regardless of where you got it, you will be able to take advantage of the current promotion. LETS HOPE!
Samsung pay should still work, and so will the VVM app from the play store.
Eventually if a root/flashing method should come out for the international model which could let you flash over AT&T stuff such as HD voice. Not 100% sure on that but maybe someone else can verify that.
When you get the phone, go to the store and ask for a sim.
As for the free gift, it only applies if you buy it from a carrier store, or certain stores. I'm assuming the guy you bought it from already got the promo gift from Samsung. If you really want it maybe cancel the eBay order and get it from Samsung.
As far as I know you can't buy the international version straight from Samsung. If that would have been an option, I'd been all over that.
Would the SIM in my iPhone not work?
Seems you may be right, the only options I see on their site are carrier models. If you go to the promotion site though, they have an option for "other" retailers so you can try with your eBay invoice as proof of purchase.
I like where your heads at.
I suppose what I can do with the SIM is try swapping it into the Note and if it doesn't work, go to the store.

I'll pop in with a lil info for you. I use a international Note 4 on AT&T now with zero issues. A few reasons why I went with this version instead of a carrier branded phone. First one was the unlocked bootloader, since the AT&T version was locked up and still locked to this day. My 4 still works perfectly fine with a custom S7/Note 7 Rom on it. So you decide if you want it..
Now in regards to the crapple sim going into the N7, if I'm not mistaken you're going to have to get that changed from the crapple set-up. Think they need to put it back to regular data or whatever all the other phones use. You know it's always something special with crapple! I would say try the sim if no data you'll know why.
Good luck

As mentioned above, I believe Apple uses different settings for data with their sim cards. When my brother switched from a 4S to Android he had to get a new card. I also just got his LTE working for him by contacting support and registering his Sim card with the one I from a store display phone. I just took a picture of the IMEI of an S7 in store and used the "ATT Phone" APN settings. The NXTGENPHONE APN will not work for some reason when I tried it.

While I'm at the store, I'll snap a pic of the back of an S7 as well just to be safe. Can you clarify "ATT Phone" in the APN settings? Where is this located?
Go into the phone settings and get the IMEI and IMEISV
I needed both when talking to tech support.
As for the APN I used the same ones as the OP from this thread.

any sprint users able to activate yet?

I have never done BYOD, can someone give me a rundown of how to proceed, and how its worked for you on the pixel (not yet showing as a viable device on their BYOD page!)
i would love to be able to activate without dealing with a store (from my account page) is that possible?
I did a chat with Sprint rep. You need a SIM card that you can either order and self-activate, or go in-store. I was told no charge for the SIM card in-store but $30 activation fee. The UPC for the SIM you need is: 019962040146
Personally, I'm considering moving to Fi since my Sprint service has been poor last 4-5 months due to alleged "tower improvements", just not sure if I want to give up $60 unlimited everything. ?

But did a search on sprint's site and came across this - https://www.sprint.com/landings/howtoactivate/index.html?id16=swap |All&question_box=swap |All
My SIM is sitting and waiting for my darn phone to ship!! I don't think it will be a problem. I would move to Fi, but I just couldn't afford it at this time.
nightmare with Sprint. Got my phone this afternoon and have been to 3 Sprint stores, a Best Buy, and a Best Buy Mobile.......CANNOT ACTIVATE ON SPRINT!! I purchased the correct SIM Card, but when the Rep goes to activate it, I get 2 answers as to why I cannot activate it: #1 (from the less informed) the device is not compatible with Sprint. I was given this answer at 2 sprint stores, and over the phone when I called to activate the device & SIM Card. #2 (at a Corporate Sprint Store) They have an email that walks them through how to activate the Pixel. FOllowing the steps, he got an error stating that the SKU is assigned to a PREPAID phone and it needs to be reassigned to POSTPAY before it can activate. He called some number, on the phone for about 20 minutes and handed my the phone and said the ladt was no help, try calling Customer Care. So, 3.5 hours into my trying to activate I call customer care who does nothing, transfer to tech support - NOTHING and says its not a compatible device. I asked to speak to supervisor who then basically told me to go to the store and they can fix it. when I explained I have been to 3 stores and they cannot fix it, he says sorry, I cant do anything over the phone.

Sounds like you were the individual they were talking about when I walked in with my Pixel in hand. I told them I needed a sim and to have it activated. 3 guys were telling me about someone that had just left, who had been there for over an hour, with a SIM they bought at Best Buy, while they were on the phone, talking about it registering as a prepaid phone. I said, "well, just let me buy a sim kit for the nexus 6". They brought it out, said, "we'll give it a shot". They pulled up my account, scanned the SKU on the box, scanned the sim, put it in, and I was out with an activated Pixel within 10 minutes.
I'm not sure what they did wrong with you or the other guy. Did you have your box with you or just the phone?

Went to a sprint store where the guy told me I need to order a special SIM for the Pixel, and they expected them later this week. I asked him to try it with the SIM in my LG G5 which he was nice enough to do but he couldn't get it to work, claiming each device maker has it's own SIM (...ok...).
At any rate, when I got back home I went to the site that jj14 posted - sprint.com/landings/howt...=swap%20%7CAll - and tried first with the SIM that was in my old Nexus 6 (didn't work) then again with the one in my LG G5, and that worked! Up and running, making calls, etc. No issues!
Has anyone tried putting a sprint sim in a Verizon pixel?

Take your box with you. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it but at least they'll have it to scan. I know it shouldn't matter but, you never know.

That the number sprint needs is on the box and about my phone on your setting
Got my pixel xl from the Google store, ordered the card from Sprint and activated thru Sprint support chat.
Everything is working great! Best Android phone out there!
I don't know how I missed this thread. I was super curious about why I was experiencing so much trouble getting proper activation.
I activated mine the day I got it, online, with the sim card from my HTC 10. It went through but have me an error after it was activated. So I'm currently using that sim and it works with the exception of minor issues like unable to send SMS over 160 characters and MMS not always behaving. Other than that it works.
I went to 3 stores local and while I'm Richmond VA, I checked a corporate store. No one has the damn sim needed! It completely baffles me. Phone rep is having one mailed to me.. how nice of them
got my phone from the google store, trid switching sims but it didnt work. went to a sprint store and told them i need the "3 in 1" simcard to activate an unlocked phone and a guys which actually knew what he was doing swapped the phones for me. there is no activation fees because you are swapping phones, not activating. its working great so far, however sometimes i have some weird signal drops which happens randomly. anyone experiencing the same?
Went to the store and they did it for me

nightmare with Sprint.

I activated my pixel XL within 10 minutes as well lol idk why they're giving u the runaround. U just need to go to a corporate store and ask them for the sim card with the last 3 numbers ending in 146 or tell them u need a simple card used for the htc M8 it's the same card that ends in 146.

Question Is Esim enabled at launch in the USA?

Just need to confirm that Esim is enabled in the USA at launch. The fold 3 fiasco with Esim has me doubting, so need to confirm prior to ordering
I think it's safe to say yes as the S22 Ultra worked out of the box.
It BETTER be FFS!
Samsung has a mixed bag on this and the last fold did not work dual sim
They announced esim is available
Went to Best buy today to play with one. Flip 4 had Sim manager in the connections settings. Fold 4 did not. Guess will try a different best buy lol

I think this may be carrier specific.
My Flip3 that I got from Verzion in June did NOT have sim manager. I flashed an unlocked ROM and got it.
If it doesn't have it out of the box (unlocked), that is going to make some heads roll, I will tell you that.

Yes and neither did the S21 Ultra and Flip 3.
At this point in the game I would be very surprised if any Samsung flagship didn't have it out of the box.
Well, pre ordered today. Lets hope...lol
I went on BestBuy's site, and had a chat with a 'geek' named Olivia. They sell the TMO locked version ( I bought the unlocked, but plan to have TMO SIM in it, so my bet it will boot into a TMO environment like the locked ones). As per very SPECIFIC questions I was told that the Fold 4 supports eSIM. I asked in three ways , and 2 out of the three questions were , in short. a 'YES' , the fold 4 US version under TMO will support eSIM to cover non TMO USA territories. The third question, if she can tell me if the menu under setting->connections have a SIM manager menu, was ignored.
Did I learn something new? NO. Do I know eSIM is supported? NOT SURE. I guess we will know around August 24th to 26th when the pre-orders from Samsung come in... Or maybe someone who got his AMAZON order maybe kind enough and share if the menu indeed exists..
My fear, before entering a TMO SIM, it will be there, and as soon as a TMO SIM will be entered, the menu will be gone... I have no doubt Samsung has the hardware. I will check the setting BEFORE I place the TMO SIM and will see...
Best Buy's chat support are either AI bots or 3rd world employees being paid $1/day. I wouldn't put any faith in them whatsoever. They're about as reliable as Samsung chat support.
Also beware in order to use embedded sim the device cannot be locked to a different carrier. For example if you have TMO and buy a device from them on EIP, it will be locked to them. It should work with two lines but not with Verizon or ATT. The only exception is if you pay in full and wait 45 days for them to approve an unlock request. Of course if paying cash it makes sense to buy unlocked in the first place. ;-)
Yeah, I am fully aware they know nothing of the devices they sell.. and I am well aware this is for fully purchased TMO devices. I did speak to a real person, and I did not get the answers I trust to be the truth.. I really hope SOMEONE who got his unlocked device from Amazon already will share his experience. With all the things I bought in my life at Best Buy, service and warranty by their 'Geek' squad was never something I paid for..
Man, I currently use eSim on my S21 that I am trading in. You guys got me nervous that i won't be able to setup my Fold 4 when i get it haha. I might need to order a TMO sim just in case lol.
Confirmed by TMO at a US store that the TMO version has Esim enabled. Saw it myself with a TMO sim inserted

Confirmed for T-Mobile i just enabled my Esim.
Yup. I did mine yesterday when I got my Fold
When I got mine yesterday, I had to insert the sim card from the Fold3, then go online to chat with a rep to get it activated. Tmobile device.
Wow, in the UK, all I did was 'Transfer e-Sim" on EE's site/app and plonk away it went after scanning the QR. My watch 4 to watch 5 e-sim swap however.....
Just want to clarify....
Esim is live for T-Mobile only..
Atnt straight talk and Verizon don't connect, they can't. I've been told by Samsung directly to wait for an update like the fold 3 for esim support to go live for them...
Came from a OnePlus 8 pro running atnt and Verizon and was slapped in the face when I found out this 0hones 1sim+1esim I was under the assumption the unlocked one was going to be dual sim..
So I'm trying to deal with Verizon through sim card for the time being. Verizon also doesn't have a slightest clue what my device is either, it read the 8 pro, now it just shows nothing in my account for a phone.
