touch screen stops working - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

this has happening to me lot now. I could be in the middle of any app and the touch screen will just stop working totally until i lock the screen with the power button and then unlock it.

Just a wild guess, do you have DT2W/DT2S enabled?

Yeah, I do have it enabled currently. Is it really that buggy?

I've experienced some issues with DT2W/S on other devices/roms, even when its a feature enabled by the kernel.
Try disabling it.

I'll be sure to try it the next time I have the issue.

bump
happening here as well. noticed the logo used for the "interruptions" settings menu pops up as an indicator at the top of the screen every time this happens. tried changing around the settings within interruptions with no luck. also have dt2w off. imgur . com/KK7riD

Hardware problem
Il you put two fingers and make some pressure between the front camera end the rear side of the phone, the screen becomes alive

You can "expand" the running notification, after that a Stop option will show...

I tried that first and it didn't show anything to stop it. After lowering the timeout to 5 min vs 30 min it showed the ability to stop recording. I'm going to bump it back up to 30 min and see if it happens again and if so there's a bug if not just a freak thing.
Just tested it out again but didn't up the record time and this is what I got. Guess I'll just stick with scr screen recorder unless there's a fix for this. Can tap on that recording screen notification all day and it doesn't do jack have to force stop gravity box.
Expand that notification to show the stop option.

Doesn't expand. I found that when the recording is started before opening a game app it works fine. Only weird thing is when in landscape the tab needs to be situated so the charge cord is on the right or the power button needs to be on the bottom or the recording is all funky. Little weird things but it seems to work just as good as scr pro which wasn't free.
Started game. Started screen recording. Dragged down notification, stop button present.
All works flawlessly. Nothing wrong with the implementation whatsoever :good:
I think it depends on Android version. GB for 4.3 may have this bug but on 4.4 there is no bugs whatorever

That's what it looks like when it's working properly. Might have something to do with the game I play which is dead trigger 2 not allowing it to work. When my recording notification goes away either by waiting or force stopping there's no recording made like it didn't completely start up. No big deal just something I've encountered.
Are you using GravityBox(KK) with JB 4.3?
How to unhide the stop and toggle pointer options.

Hi there; I was having issues with the screen recording feature as well, I managed to use it after I selected the option "Use stock binary" under the menu "Screen recording" of gravity box (this disables the option to record with sound though).
Now to your question, I wasn't able to find how to stop the damn thing, it turns out that after you start recording the screen you have to expand the status bar and you'll see the "recording screen" notification not showing the stop option so you have to expland the notification itself by sweeping your finger down on it and only then the stop and toggle pointer options will be shown.
Hey I can't record with sound but other than that I can record the screen without issues. Hope it helps.

Hello justchillin2013 , Even i was having the same problem, no option to stop recording and toggle pointer...
I found two solutions -
1. Open Gravity box >Statusbar tweaks > Notification drawer style > And check Expand all notifications...
OR
2. As soon as you finish recording ,pull down notification panel > tap and swipe down "Recording Screen" notification...now you'll see both the options....
hope that help...

Turn off knock on?

Hi guys, does anyone know how to turn off knock on on the G3? Tried looking for it in gestures settings like in the G2 but can't seem to find it. The g3 keeps waking while in my pocket making it feels constantly warm. Anyone else experiencing this? I don't mind just using the button at the back to wake it. The placement for the button is quite comfortable actually.
I'm sorry to hear this is a problem on the g3, I have this problem on the double tap to wake code on my Nexus 5 and so I just turned it off. I know for the galaxy 2, sorry g2, voice dictation, they released firmware fix for this I think

Can you tell me how you did the wake code on the nexus 5?
And to the op, isn't there a setting in the screen gestures section of the phone to turn it off?
You can turn it off in the hidden system settings menu
Dial 3845#*855# to access it.

It is the very last setting in the list, just scroll all the way down to the bottom.
If you have the Korean model replace the 855 with 400
I turned this feature off as it will save battery life too as it needs to keep the screen driver awake happy using the back button.

855 opens my hidden menu. But I still can figure out which option to choose after scrolling down to the bottom. The screen shot shows my menu. Could u let me know which option should I be disabling?

we don't have that functionality by default, it's patched into custom kernels and eats 2-3% battery per hour (another reason I turn it off)
Just so you know, I had issues with Knock On unlocking my phone in my pocket so I turned it upside down and the issue is 100% gone !
I think it's due to the light sensor not being 100% in the dark then the taps on the lap unlocked the phone. When it's upside down the light sensor is kept in the dark
I just can't find that setting... Ive looked everywhere. My phone is rooted with towelroot. Is that the problem?

Is it really the light sensor? I think the proximity sensor would make more sense in this case! Otherwise you wouldn't be able to use the knock on feature in the darkness...
Screen wakes in my pocket whichever way up I put it in and I don't want to have the screen face outwards. This is very annoying and didn't happen on my G2 - The screen is clearly very sensitive. I don't want to turn off knock on and I don't really like knock code.

Same here. Upside up or Upside down makes no difference for me. Display from body away seems to be the only real solution...
Looks like a few of u are experiencing the same problem. I have been facing the screen away from me as a solution but it feels so awkward when I m so used to have the screen face in. And I can't find the hidden settings to turn knock on off. They really hid very well I guess.

[Q] Touchscreen unresponsive waking up from standby

Is this happening to anyone else?
The power button and volume buttons work but the screen is entirely unresponsive. The only remedy is to remove the battery. It has happened three times but not predictably enough to reproduce.
The phone is rooted with IORoot and I'm running Xposed, G3Tweaksbox with quite a few of the theming options enabled (inc. status bar and lockscreen contents). I also disabled the Knock feature through the hidden settings. I'm completely aware that customization might be the cause, but curious if anyone else has had similar symptoms or knows of relevant bugs.
Happens to me as well, D855 version. It happens once a day but i can unfreeze it, i keep tapping the screen and pressing randomly power and volume buttons. It unfreezes after 5-6 seconds but it's by no means a FIX. This should not happen on a new phone and i'm thinking of selling mine and buying some other model by a different manufacturer.
No combination of screen presses for any amount of time gets it working. It's happening 4-5 times a day and is only resolved by taking out the battery.
I tried the method from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792580 but my firmware version did not change.
It only happen to me if I disable the Knock feature..Try to activate the knock feature and see if it helped
Thanks, @bollefinn. Enabling Knock does seem to resolve the problem. Of course, it creates new problems with the phone turning on in pockets, but that's of less concern.

Touchscreen issues

Anyone run into intermittent issues on their watch? Sometimes I have to tap 2 or 3 times for the watch to wake. Other times I have to use the power button to wake as even 10 taps doesn't wake it.
I've also noticed general sensitivity issues where the touchscreen has issues like scrolling through the quick settings when dragging down from the watch face.
+1
I noticed that as well

Nope, my watch has been perfectly responsive to touch. Tilt-to-wake is pretty hit or miss, though. Are you on your custom kernel or back on stock?

I was on stock but now custom and saw the issues and this is my first replacement because of this issue. I may just return the device. I'm not happy with a device that can't get basic touchscreen right. My OnePlus One has some touchscreen issues but not this bad. It shouldn't fail to wake after 3+ taps.
Have you tried turning on "Show Touches" in Developer Settings? You might be able to find a pattern of what's not working.

Good suggestion. I didn't see a pattern but it showed when I had the wake issue that that touches always registered in a certain location on the phone. It helped to have ambient on so I could see the touches. It would definitely register them but always near the lower left corner of the screen.
Either way, I returned this device after seeing this same issue two devices in a row [emoji17]. I wanted to have a device that works the way it should. It was fun playing around with something new. The next gen Asus is a possibility but I'm shaken away by them right now. Maybe new moto.

Weird, inconsistent touch screen behaviour after screen replacement

So I've recently replaced my screen and I'm getting some strange behaviour with the touch interactivity. I have turned on tap visibility in the developer options and will try and descibe what is happening...
It seems to really dislike some apps, for example on the home screen it is the worst - It sees my fingertip contact when i tap, but its as if i'm holding my fingers down. This is the kind of behaviour in the lock screen too.
The weird thing is though, that I can get to the settings menu through holding the power key > "Side key settings" - and everything works perfectly. In other apps it its also pretty usable - though maybe slightly more laggy sometimes and can hang for a few moments.
I am wondering whether this sounds like a software or a hardware issue to anyone with more expertise? (relatively new to this repair/modding stuff). I have tried downgrading it to a younger version of android with odin but that didn't work. I am also wondering whether rooting might open some possibilities?
Thanks
