For non-verizon M9's yes, but still waiting on the crack for the Verizon ones.

Are you sure? Because the verizon Note 4 still hasn't been cracked, nor has the S6 or Droid Turbo... Verizon is REALLY cracking down on their bootloaders...

Yea, that's true. There's talented ppl working on it, and a lot of interest in the device.
Plus, there's always Java card

The m9 has already been unlocked, s offed and rooted on the other carriers. We're just waiting on the Verizon exploit now. As others have said you could always use a Java card.

M8, M7, Rezound, Droid DNA (<--I think) all went through similar "delays." I remember things got really heated with the Rezound, but it still got done. There are plenty of Devs out there with the desire/motivation to get it done.

Or anyone has the option of finding someone with a java card and end your waiting.
There are people all over posting they have a java card already.
Some people are posting their location asking if anyone in there area has a java card so people that have a java card can contact them about using it on theirs.
So if you dont want to wait like most of us post your location and list looking for someone with a java card in your area you might be surprised how many people have them already as people hate waiting

Can the bootloader on an Unlocked att Note 4 be unlocked

Hi,
I know there is no way to unlock the bootloader on an att Note 4, but if ATT unlocks it would it become an International Version and can the bootloader be unlocked? Sorry if this is a dumb question.
Young fool.... only now do you realize the power of evil AT&T produces.
Now Rosachin, you will die.
(In all realness, no of course not. ATT ain't that nice nor will it ever be. You can unlock the phone in terms of cellular network but that's it.)
I cant believe I didnt come here before I bought 2 brand new at&t Note 4's Unlocked. What an idiot I am. Just never had a at&t and didnt think anything of it because everytime I have wanted to root and mod my previous phones, I never had a problem.. I never had at&t though.. uhhgg. maybe by the time I just cant stand the stock rom, they will unlock the bootloader? I dont know if that's how it works...
Oh well, sad man here.

Oh I feel you man. Note 4 was my first phone on ATT and I regret it. If I wanted to be locked down I would get a iphone. Still the note 4 is a great phone just with a lot of unused potential.

Well, I just sent a return request for one of the note 4's. AND just bought a USED sm910T from ebay.
So, instead of me getting a brand new AT&T UNMODDABLE note 4, I will be getting a used but in great condition T-Mobile note 4.
And if I can get out of the restocking fees from the return, I will come out 50 bucks ahead. Cool.
The other new note 4 went to my daughter for xmas, and she already broke the screen. DOH!!
I lucked out this time I guess.
Cheers all.

Yeah man, I'ved used At&t for years. Some phones still ended up rooting and unlocked (Sky-Rocket, LG E970, and Note II) this is the 1st phone I purchased that couldn't be rooted to install ROMs and Mods. Very annoyed but glad to know after this experience we know not to buy from At&t directly. Either buy unlocked form Swappa, eBay or Amazon or know that you will be limited when you buy from carrier. In the mean time if you really want out, pay the bill so its clear for selling, and sell it online or in person. Also you can wait it out until the next upgrade.

Never again for me, not directly from AT&T & maybe not Samsung. [AT&T-Captivate, and VZ-Note2..rooted and other ROM'd but now ]. Question: what aspect of the hardware allows a carrier's specific bands of LTE to function? Or is it that the hardware is fully "plastic", capable of any LTE banding given the software[albeit locked] and SIM[mine unlocked] ? There are multiple Note4's. AT&Ts also runs UMTS and GSM. T's? Verizon's also runs its EV-DO. Perhaps these 2G, and 3G aspects become irrelevant and the 4G/LTE buildout completes, but the question remains over capability on carrier specific LTE bands.
With my SIM unlocked Note4 I used a VODA SIM this summer in Italy, but don't recall whether I had access to LTE , or evn which data mode functioned.
Ok, I hope I don't get in trouble for asking this here. . I tried to search but I'm not real good on this phone yet. . That's no excuse, I know. ..
Anyway, I received my T-Mobile Note 4 today and I want to root it right away as I am an owner of titanium backup and rom toolbox.
I am wondering if there is an easy way to root my device without installing a custom kernel AND not require a pc?
If I have to use a custom kernel, which one is the most stable?
My device specs are
SM-N910T3
Android 5.1.1
LMY47X.N910T3UVU1DOK2
KNOX 2.4.1
I have data turned off on my phone and disabled data from my carrier. I use WiFi and no data. .
Again I'm sorry for asking this but it's been a real long time since I have installed custom anything and my pc blue screens randomly so I'm afraid to try rooting my phone that way.
Please, step by step, easy tutorial or a link to where I need to go?
Thanks a bunch.

The real reason carriers lock bootloaders (just remove the space after www and http)
http s://www .youtube.com/watch?v=gpVocvREboo&list=UURAxVOVt3sasdcxW343eg_A&app=desktop
[email protected] the space. Ironically....yeah i will remove the space so you can suffer clicking on the link on your phone...
Since we are on the subject of bootloaders. It's been a while since I flashed a custom rom on a phone. But from what I remember, isn't the bootloader these pictures that I attached? I took pictures on my AT&T Note 4.
Thanks
Yes i have read the whole thing.
Ok, to cut a long story short;
i bought a note 4 on an online australian shop for $470 (really hard without a job)
Anyway, they noted that their phones are from GENUINE Suppliers and i got a Note 4 UNLOCKED from, you guessed it. AT&T.
Now i wasnt too fussed. I was happy i got a note 4 that wasnt a chinese brick phone, since it technically was refurbished from their Hong Kong Warehouse. Anyways
After like...idk 2 months? approx? i decided i wanna root it. Guess what?! BOOTLOADER. WHAT THE ***T!!
Anyway, i spoke to some people, one said he hasnt rooted a phone passed gen 6. and the other person said 'no cant root. Bootloader is locked and no way to bypass.'
Soo im wondering if its possible to root the phone without removing bootloader? I dont restart my phone much and the whole bootloader doesnt worry me so im just curious if i can chuck a stock rom on without worrying about the bootloader.
Some background info:
I am Australian, therefore my phone is running under Australian networks (Boost, Lyca, Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, etc)
It is filled with unwanted, unnecessary AT&T bloatware.

Ripping encrypted DVDs (or DVDs locked to a region) = unlocked
PlayStation 3 = reverse engineered
iPhone = jailbroken
Why isn't the AT&T Note4 unlocked yet? Would offering a bounty help? Is it impossible to unlock? Is it a matter of time? Is it a matter of throwing lots of computation power against the lock?
What will finally get the AT&T Note4 unlocked?

Is there no bounty offered? If each ATT Note4 owner chips in a few dollars, we could raise a bounty of several hundred dollars. Then some tech-wiz can take much time trying to unlock the bootloader.
Anybody else willing to contribute to a bounty?

Bestbuy guy said verizon versions will be unlocked. True or false?

Anyone heard anything about verizon Note 7 being unlocked in BestBuy?
What he probably meant is that it is SIM unlocked. Almost all Verizon smart phones now are classified as World Phones which means they are SIM unlocked to be used anywhere in the world on a GSM network. This does not mean that they will have the bootloader unlocked.
Yeah as mentioned above he probably just meant carrier unlocked. Even as far back as the S5 Verizon phones have been unlocked to use any carrier, apart from sprint because they suck.
Best Buy employees don't even know a bootloader exists.

When I was an SES at a few different best buys, we had a guy that was telling Customers that if he liked iOS, he could just install it on a Samsung. After calling him out on it, he told me I was an idiot and that he has done it. LOL

So question would be is it or would it be best to buy from Samsung or Verizon? because i am hoping if i buy from Samsung then i will get all the missing stuff that verizon took away?
Part of Samsung's new security features, unlocked bootloaders will never be offered on major carrier networks in USA regions. This is why TMO devices have locked bootloaders today.

If you buy a Verizon phone from Samsung it will still be the same as any other Verizon N7. If you want it to work on Verizon and have all the original features you'll need to wait on the N930U to be released.
So the question... The oem unlock toggle doesn't do anything.. Just curious.. Mine toggles

Switch to...?

Hey fellas,
I literally just got my s8+ from Verizon. I am still within my period for about 12 more days to swap this out for a different phone.
Simple question is this: I know root is out for the s8+ but no bootloader hack yet. Does anybody think there is a better chance the pixel 2 will get the bootloader hacked before the s8+? (It's been out for a while now, I don't think it's going to happen to be honest)...
I don't think that the bootloader may get cracked on the Verizon Pixel 2/Xl. However, you will get updated for 3 yrs, that's enough for me to switch.

Reality is, if you have a Verizon 2 XL chances of ever having a bootloader unlock exploit is near 0%.
If you have a Google 2 XL chances are 100%.

It doesn't matter it's a Verizon phone either way the bootloader is locked like fort Knox. I ordered the Google branded unlocked version for this reason alone.

I may just stick with my s8+. It is a decent phone and there is a working root so far. I would like to compile android though (to be honest I am not sure what you can really do without bootloader access and roms as far as I am concerned).
Explain something to me; if you have Verizon, what possible advantage is there in ordering the Verizon version when you can get the unlocked version for the same price? If you put in your Verizon SIM in an unlocked version, does the bootloader all of a sudden get locked somehow?

No, the only difference between the two phones is Verizon locks the bootloader from the factory. Inserting a Verizon sim only triggers the play store to download 3 bloat apps which can be removed. The advantage I guess is that your getting device support / protection / warranty through Verizon in which case you are overnighted a new phone if anything goes wrong and can bring your problem to a local shop vs dealing with Google. Their deals and trade-in programs are much more robust than Google's as well. Bottom line for the average user that doesn't plan on rooting or installing custom ROMs it really makes no difference. All software updates come from Google not Verizon as well with the pixel phones so it makes no difference there.

just what the title says. they have a buy 1 get 1 free deal going on was wondering if it is worth it. it also comes with google home and chromecast. i would probably sell those on ebay though.

Getting a VZW locked device, maybe not worth it if you are dead set on flashing custom stuff.
Getting TWO 2 XLs (selling one for $300-400) probably worth it unless you're dead set on flashing custom stuff.
Google offers the same financing that VZW has (24mo 0% interest) and for roughly the same monthly $$$ you'd pay at VZW, you get an unlocked 2 XL!
If you get the Google unlocked version, which can be used on Verizon's network; it's ABSOLUTELY worth it.
I took the Verizon sim card from my unlocked 6P and dropped it in my unlocked 2 XL, no issues!
The 2 XL was a great device before I rooted, flashed a cust kernel, and cust rom on it, and it's just that much better now that I'm running all the custom stuff.

Yeah. I want to switch from VZW. I would have had the phone in my hand by now if it wasn't for the locked bootloader. I am just looking to the future. I have my Nexus
6 obviously unlocked running Android Oreo. With a locked bootloader once the official OTAs are done. Then your screwed. From Google play store the deal isn't as good. Sucks
I just bought a Verizon pixel 2 XL and unlocked the bootloader. I'm currently running magisk 16.4 / elementalx kernel / nitrogenOS and love it.

its still a great device with a locked bootloader.
You're asking the wrong questions however.
If you dont have any intentions of rooting/custom ROM'ing or things of the like, there is no reason not to buy it from Verizon.
If you plan to, or even think you might want to do something custom with the device, then it would be better to buy from Google.
An unlockable bootloader for most people is irrelevant. Tech minded people (like those here on XDA) place a premium on it.
Whether or no it is 'worth' anything is only something you can answer.

I have an opportunity to pick up a Verizon 2 XL for $200. Only known issue is that the back left corner is shattered. I read you can replace that for under $20.
Screen is fine.
Do you think it would be worth picking it up as an intermediary and in a couple of months invest it towards a Google edition 2 XL (after repairing it)?

Uh, the Pixel 2 man, you already have the current best Android phone, but you got the wrong version, need to only buy from Google, you bought the red Nazi version from the evil V.

Verizon locked your phone, and locked you in at the same time. Like others have said you bought the wrong variant of the P2XL. Maybe you feel you were/are forced to buy the wrong variant because you cannot buy an unlocked phone to escape the clutches of the Red Devil, but you would be wrong. Buying a phone subsidized by Verizon (getting the phone up front and paying for it on-contract for 2-3 years) is no different than just financing it from a reputable source. Finance any unlocked phone you like. At that point you are free to stay with Verizon until your contract is up and then go to any other carrier you like. Hardware good. Verizon bad.
What device you guys think is getting the best development at this point?

No, they're not. Was just answering the question generically. If your talking strictly Verizon compatible phones, then probably the google version of any pixel device.

There are exceptions, as VZW did not carry the Huawei 6P but it does work, very well I might add, on their network. The downside of using a non-VZW device on their network is you lose some of the goodies that come with a VZW supplied device (free vzw cloud, asurion insurance, etc).

Pixel 2 XL (Google version, unlocked)
As a VZW user myself, I found that in order to root / mod any recent device offered by Verizon, you MUST buy from the manufacturer (unlocked).
Google has many offers similar to VZWs payment structure with 0% interest for two years, or you can buy it outright as I did and not mess with payments.
If you're stuck using only the devices offered through a VZW retailer, I don't think you're going to be rooting / modding your device anytime soon.

I guess it really comes down to your priorities. If you are willing to consider phones not sold by Verizon (but still CDMA compatible) you could start by looking HERE for some ideas. Although being unlock-able is a requirement, it doesn't guarantee dev popularity... so you would need to cross check your top choices here on XDA. Just go into the respective forums and have a look around at the number of ROM's/Kernels, etc. (TWRP/Magisk support is critical, too) for each respective phone. If Android 9.0 and regular functionality and security updates are important, you may find yourself circling back to the Pixel2 again. Prices will drop even more when the P3's hit. If you go this route I strongly recommend you buy directly from Google as your warranty experience will be far superior across the board than if you buy from anywhere else. Financing is available.
Thanks everyone, I got the Verizon edition for half price from Best buy, on payment plan. I'll be looking at Motorola or something like that now. The pixel is great but I miss my themes and ROMs

Sell it on swappa. I bought another 2xl on swappa for 560$ you can probably get 450 then only a little bit more to get Google version.

You buy the wrong version and get mad at the "pixel" for it and when people tell you that you need google version you still just plan on Moto. Anything that comes out of verizon will be locked.

If you're getting the G5 plus you will definitely miss the Pixel. The G5 has middle of the road hardware.

When you say Huawei 6P do you mean the Huawei built Nexus 6P? If so I'm pretty sure that won't work. Verizon is notorious for not allowing phones that they don't sell to be actived on its network even if the phone fully supports the network. I know for a fact that Verizon won't allow the Nexus 5X on its network. Unless Verizon has changed things since last November.
