Remove SFinder, Connect, and carrier text from Notification bar - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6

Here you guys go.
Didn't want to risk flashing the international version so I made my own for sprint.
This is just the APK - so to install follow these instructions:
Use root explorer
Download into sdcard
Paste into system/priv-app/systemUI
Change permissions to include everything (3x3 grid)
Reboot phone
Try it at your own risk ... I would recommend a backup incase anything goes wrong.

Worked flawlessly! The only thing more annoying than Samsung bloatware is Samsung bloatware cluttering the system interface. Can't wait for AOSP ROM's.
Thanks!

Works great here! It does mess with the first notification though. Another method that's supposed to get rid of SFinder and Quick Connect without affecting notifications is in this post. I tried to do it earlier but had issues with the finished apk.

ok, not sure if its part of the rom im running, or if its actually there. When you go to edit your dropdown shortcuts by hitting the pencil looking thing in the dropdown, i can actually scroll that page and on the bottom there are 2 check marks for SFinder and Quick Connect, if i unckeck those, they go away...no mods needed

I can confirm this is indeed available on stock firmware.

(UPDATED)Semi-transparent simple and clean notification and toggles

We need some variety and i was getting kinda bored with the phisher-price/blinky lights look of the toggles. Toggles are now simple and clean Ice Cream Sandwich blue. Notifications still appear in black backgrounds. I also got rid of the full battery icon that would appear in the top left corner when battery was fully charged i dont need that my lockscreen does that.
instructions
download file, unzip, put on sdcard, open root explorer and move systemui.apk to system, make sure you toggle ro/rw in top right corner, long press on it select permissions change permissions according to the picture below, now move it into the app folder, root explorer will ask if you want to overwrite the original click yes. Thats it exit root explorer reboot your phone
sorry for the long drawn out instructions i just dont want anyone to get lost. Feel free to use any of this artwork in what ever you heart desires.
Thanks! I really like this. The toggle icons look great and so does the translucent pull down.
The only suggestion I have would be to make the background behind the toggles dark. Sometimes it's hard to see them when the background is bleeding through.
Again, nice work.

Did you also remove the systemui.odex file? If so, that's the problem. You need to keep the odex file in place.
you seem to have 2 notif folders with the same systemui.apk.. ?

[Q] can the search bar be removed ?

Nearly every picture of this phone I've seen it has a rather large search bar at the top of the home screen. Can it be removed? If not - could it be removed with root ?

P3Droid has done it...
by far my biggest gripe with ics
Hum. But he didn't say how Hopefully google rethinks this feature of the software. I mean I don't mind it being optional and default but ...

If you remove that ... you need another hack to enable "search".
Because there is no search "key" (virtual key).

They could bind it to long-press task switcher key for example. My x10 did also come without search button but it was bound to long-press menu key. Should be possible with software keys as well, right?

I wouldn't mind so much if they let me resize the damn thing. I know it's important but I really want it a quarter of it's current size.
I think P3Droid did it by modifying Launcher.apk and pushing it back to the device.

thye could let us at least be able to move it.. say to one of the other 5 screens, so its not on the main one
I believe its constant across all 5 homescreens, but I understand what you mean. I assume you mean have only one, and make it available to move around right?
If you are willing to root, then you can do many UI customizations as per P3Droid's mods or Paul_Brian's ROMs. You need root because most involve editing the launcher or framework-res.apk and other system components.
Yea. For me anyways I would rarely use search; so stuffing it in a place where it doesn't take prime space would be nice....; alternatively it could just be an ap that you can put on a screen as desired; or a menu option to enable / disable. Lots of solutions that doesnt' require it to be on every screen at the top...

Considering that you can't use the space that is left when you get rid of the search bar, I personally don't see what all the fuss is about.
You cannot place homescreen shortcuts or any other widget there, since as soon as you pick up an icon or widget to place on the home screen, that area is reserved for the Remove/App Info/Uninstall prompt.
So the only result of getting rid of the search bar would be a blank space that can serve no function at all. If I had to choose between a blank space that cannot be utilised, over a search bar...I'd choose search bar.
Or just download a different launcher. My HC tablet has the Google Search widget at the top-left corner that is static. A quick ADW EX download and bada-bing, bada-boom.
I'm running ICS CM7 theme on my G2x and I kinda like the search bar's location. Eventually I'd like to replace it with a clock or weather widget, but I don't stick with the stock launcher very long.
Ack I though the space could be used (I do not yet have the phone). That is also sad

How about a complet transparent search bar? You couldn't see it but it's there and if you know it you can use it.
The search bar should remain a widget, as it used to be. That would give users the most options, which is what Android is about.

ICS Issues....

Well since I don't have enough posts it won't let me post in the Dev section...ugh....anyway, I just wiped and flashed MazWoz-EVO ICS ROM BETA 4 and had to do it a few times because it kept screwing up after I would restore my apps and data via Titanium. I figured since this was ICS and my previous was Gingerbread there were some issues so I didn't restore data this last time and thought all was well.
I can't seem to get the browser to work and I tried Chrome Beta but I already read on the forum that is not working right with this ROM so I'll try something different. But I heard the ICS Browser is really good so I want to try it! Someone else posted the same issue but no response yet:
slikgman: My browser stopped working and i don't know when and why. I keep getting the message "unfortunately, browser stopped working" i am now using Dolphin HD browser. I've tried using the reboot and ROM manager permission fix to correct the problem.

Then I just went to unlock the phone a minute ago and my background showed up but no icons and none of the home buttons did anything. I could scroll between all the home screens but they were all blank except for my background! Hmmm...maybe I tried ICS too soon...though people on the Dev forum seem to be having a lot of luck with this ROM
Can't really help, but sounds like a bad install. I've been running this ROM for 2 weeks with no issues other than what is stated in OP.

Can I just re-flash the zip or will it force me to wipe again? I just got some of my main apps up and going so I hate to wipe for the third time in the last 12 hours...lol
Also, do you know how to change the lock screen options? I use Handcent for messaging and want to swap out the standard "slide up" to go to Handcent instead of Messaging. I can't figure out how to edit this for the life of me!
Until you've gotten a good install I would always wipe a couple times per the instructions in the OP.
Also, when changing the lock screen icons there is a trick to it. It's discussed many times over in the OP.
Basically (going from memory since I am not running the rom at the moment) you go to the lockscreen changer, if you want to add weather only you use the rosie utility. Otherwise you have to use the other utility option that is there. You can add/change whatever icons you want by tapping the icon and selecting the replacement. The icons on this screen may not update. Once you close the utility the icons and shortcuts should be as you desire. If you go back in it will reset and you will have to do the process over again.

I was gonna say! Thanks that's exactly what I needed!
Oh FYI...I sort of figured out the browser issue. All I had to do was go into my Manage Apps, go to Browser and did a Force Stop, Clear Data, and Clear Cache and then went to try it again and it has worked fine since! Weird....
Also, does anyone know where the Car Dock settings are for ICS? I'd like to change the setting to not go into Car Dock mode when docked, since it leaves the phone lit up the whole time. Some ROMs have that option and some don't, but I'd like to know if ICS has that built in and how I get to it.
Another weird thing about this ROM....
If I long press on the home screen to add an app icon, I get the usual list (Apps, Shortcuts, Widgets and Wallpapers) plus choice for Nova Actions. I can add shortcuts and widgets just fine but when I click Apps, it will show me my list of apps but when I select an app it just opens the app! It doesn't add the icon to my home screen! Annoying even though I can still add it there by long pressing the app itself.

newbie- just got my new phone! so many questions!

first android phone coming from ios for the last many years
1. sms- how do i get notifications? i don't want that little icon on the top taskbar, i want a popup like the iphone so i will immediately know. i don't even get a notification in the lockscreen which i want. also quick reply somehow? same as missed calls, i want a big notification popup
2. contact/sms page- how do i get rid of the picture profile squares? it makes each line so "thick" and takes up too much room
3. quick way to put it to silent/vibrate only mode like iphone?
4. how do you actually exit an app? it seems like when i press any of the softkeys on the bottom (home or back) it just minimizes it and still has it running in the background
5. if i reflash rom, will i lose all my apps and settings? which rom do you suggest?
6. what are the advantages of giving me root access? examples or what i can do?
7. one big feature of iphone ios 5 is group sms, can android group sms with iphone users?
8. must have apps?
1. For SMS popup thing, you can go and download another messaging application like GoSMS from the market and set it's settings.
2. That can't happen, download GoContacts from the market?
3. Hold the volume down button or set a volume toggle on the homescreen
4. Click on multitasking, swipe left or right to close an application.
5. Yes, you will. You can backup all your apps and system data through Titanium Backup from the market, google how to do that. I recommend AOKP.
6. Better speed, stability, customizations etc.
7. No, just download whatsapp
8. Don't know what you'll like
Are you sure you wanted to leave iPhone? There are apps out there to do what you are asking for with pop ups, etc.... there are also SMS apps you can install to replace the standard one. Hands cent comes to mind for that.
To quickly go to vibrate press and hold power button. A window will open with the option for vibrate, airplane mode and power off options....
Hope this helps some what. I've had an iPhone 3G and 4. I came to Android for the freedom of not being locked into Steve Jobs view of how I should use my phone. I don't miss it. Give it time and you should see the same thing.

As I believe someone above said, there is no real reason to "kill" apps, or close them down completely.
My understanding is that apps are kept in a suspended state in the background after you back out of them, or hit the home button. They don't really chew any battery or resources, but by keeping them in the RAM the app opens faster the next time you need it, or remembers what you were doing/where you were within the app.
If the phone needs to free up that space for an active app, or services that you are using, then it will close it fully/remove it from RAM to make space and keep the phone running smoothly.
Again, this is my understanding... and if I'm wrong I'm happy to stand corrected by more knowledgeable users.
As for a previous question about what "must have apps", I am a fan of Light Flow (which you can get in a free version) for customising the notification LED.

You're looking at Android from an iOS users perspective. Don't even worry about closing apps. Android is set up to know when to end processes/close apps. Even if you do completely close an app it'll just take longer to start that app when you need it again. Let the OS handle that stuff.

3. i want to be able to delete/mark as read/etc emails without actually going into a native app? for example, from that taskbar notification dropdown or preferably from the lockscreen, is there a way to delete an email?
4. when i get a notification or any kind, all i get is a ring and vibrate. i want the screen to turn on and have the notification show (kinda like #2, a popup on lockscreen of what the notification is)

It appears that you want your android phone to be an iPhone. That is something that it will never be. They are two completely different eco systems and are capable of completely different things.
1. Updates are not available for every phone at the same time. Google/Android/Carriers do have an annoying habit of releasing updates to certain phones in certain area's/countries at different times. You will eventually get the notification that an update is ready. Just be patient. With Android, you need to be patient.
2. Personally, i am not sure there is a fluid way to make this happen, however i am sure someone can correct me. There lock screen replacement apps like WidgetLocker but i dont know if they enable large notifications.
3. again, as far as i am aware, there is no way to mark as read or delete an email without actually going into the native application. When the notification comes through you can dismiss it by swiping left or right (like you do in the multi-tasking section) but you will still have to enter the native app to delete or reply.
4. Try SMS pop up, but again, this is not and iPhone...
I saw earlier you asked about Rooting etc... TREAD CAREFULLY. This can be dangerous if you dont understand the terminology and as you have been in such a closed system that is iOS, learn more about Android before going down this road. When you are ready I would keep an eye on the following sites...
i) Androidpolice.com
ii) galaxynexusroot.com (great tutorials and videos)
iii) galaxynexusforum.com (only about the gnex)

Install handcent and use it, it has a pop up notification anywhere when you get a text. And it has better options too, and has identical iPhone theme and look. Disable the stock SMS app in its settings.
Use volume down to quickly turn on silent. Better option is to use a dedicated widget from the market. A custom rom has better options though enabled just by holding the power button.
To exit apps you leave it with back button. This let's the os claim that process for free ram. Home button backgrounds an app to multitask. So always leave an app with back button when you're done.

2. In the lock screen, you can swipe down the notification bar to see the notifications you have.
3. I don't think there is any way to do that. I think it's a security measure on Google's part so other apps can't "hijack" your email management.
4. Not a direct solution but I would recommend getting the app Light Flow. This lets you customise the LED to light up different colours depending on which type of notification you have. You don't even need to turn the screen on in that case.

You can always go back to stock. Its very difficult to permanently brick a nexus. Its pretty safe as long as you follow directions.
Edit: and for notifications this phone has a colored led light. You can set each notification to different color. Green I have new Google voice, blue I have new text, white is new Gmail, etc.

You're pretty much spot on with that. Unused RAM is wasted RAM. The Galaxy Nexus has a whopping gig a RAM, so the next time you'll need to physically close apps will probably be 2 or 3 years from now. Plus, Android's memory management is much better than iOS'.

Also, for multitasking, just install system panel. Any app you see labeled "cached" is frozen and ready to be opened should you go back to that app. Cached apps are doing nothing, so you don't have to kill them. Just leave them be. You really don't have to kill anything ever. I never do and things work great.

Is the ability to change what icons appear in the notification bar only available to international s3 phones without rooting and such?

i'll probably root eventually, i just wanted to change out the airplane mode toggle for the driving mode toggle and maybe remove a couple of others.
Ooooo I wasn't sure exactly what you were asking.
Only thing I know of is the 23 toggle mod, which is an easy enough flash if you are rooted. Wouldn't know another way, though.
There's a couple of apps in the play store which can add toggles but I'm not sure if root is required for those apps.

to bring this thread back from the dead (to save from me creating the same question in a new thread)... Has anyone found a way for us (Sprint S3 users) to edit the notification bar icons?
I am rooted and want to remove Airplane Mode and Power Saving and put other items there. Stock ROM (dont want to flash new rom).
Here is a video to what i'm talking about wanting to do

Ah
Theres a mod called 20 toggle mod. That'll let you customize it and edit the order and everything. It also adds a bunch of other toggles

after doing a google search, I only found these options:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle
-this looks PERFECT, but "- the app can not remove the build-in toggle notification on Samsung phones"
or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2051009
-this looks to be for Xperia's
