[Q] Enable 3g or 2g only on LG G3 D850 (AT&T) On Lollipop! - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, Could someone help me achieve to enable only the use of 2g or 3g networks on my LG g3 D850 ? I need this in order to avoid always using LTE....
My Phone info:
Model: Lg G3 D850
Carrier: AT&T
OS Version: Lollipop 5.0.1
Rooted: Yes.
Custom Rom: Yes but based on official AT&T latest OTA.
Note: I tried to post this in the development area but XDA won't let me. I have read several threats addressing this issue but they all end up in using Xposed and an application and that only works on Kit kat version... I need the solution for Lollipop so I can take the advantages of this version.

I kept reading and in this threat (http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/how-to-xposed-running-properly-stock-t3030261) They show you how to enable xposed in LG G3 Lollipop. Be warned though this is a Beta version and you will have to disable Quickcover and Lg Weather App in order for it to run, if you dont do that Xposed will crash and will make your phone unusable it will boot and everything but it will have a pop up window indicating that something went wrong and it wont go away.
After you manage to enable Xposedon Lollipop install the APP intelli3g in the Play store and Give permission to it in Xposed.

This is for Sprint Not AT&T

Hey thank you for your post.. as stated in the original post this is needed for the AT&T variant. The Sprint variant has options that the AT&T doesn't. I don't have that option available AT&T managed to take it out. It's not that easy. The only way to this is following the steps I previously stated.

Look what I found!!!
If you are rooted you can do this easily. You just need to edit the build prop file.
1. Download buildprop editor from the play store
2.Then just change one line, ro.build.target_operator from "ATT" to "OPEN".
3.Reboot.
This will change the phone into thinking it's not ATT branded and will put the "Network Mode" menu back to choose under "Mobile Networks" in settings.
Works perfectly. FYI the AT&T signal bars will change to the generic version but it's a small tradeoff to get that menu back and enjoy better battery life. Enjoy!

I had to use another build prop editor since that one did manage to apply the change BUT after I restarted the phone the property would go back to it original value. So i used ES File Explorer to do it. Just needed to give root access in the app settings and enable the system Write permission.
Cheers

You only need a hard Reset , shut down your phone , hold volum down and power , make a hard reset and you good to go
thumbs up...
its working now, loving ICS, but hate the 80 character limit in sms, is there a workaround for that ???
You can use gosms to get around the limit!but you also need to set the correct SMS center number.
Ahhhh..... with GOSms the limit increases to 147 characters... above 147 characters the sms sending fails...

Well, I think you already know this, but it's probably because of incorrect APN settings.
No, APN settings are working. I did accidently delete message.apk... NoBloat did not make any backup's, only empty folders. But i think got it back now. Thanks...

Here you can download the engineer version of ICS, works perfectly with ROOT & CWM. After flashing this you can flash any latest ICS and root it.

Can't hook back to the network after lost signal
I flashed the official ICS successfully and installed the latest firmware update to it too, but every time I lose signal (elevator, tunnel, etc.), the phone can't hook back up to the network, so I stay out of reach until I notice it and turn the 3G/4G toggle in the notificaiton bar on/off once, then it hooks back up to the network. Any ideas?

thanks, bro, I typed 5457 # * 6200 # in the keypad, and the phone was set on the "Global + LTE" option by dedault, so I changed it to Auto GSM/WCDMA, since my provider doesn't yet have an LTE network up and running, and now all is well It seems that it has just been searching for an LTE network first, and when it couldn't find it, just hung and stayed out of service...

Does your phone have iZat?

EDIT: If you're missing iZat (read below to see if you already have it) I may have found a way to install it at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54558037&postcount=11, requires root though!
So I heard on reddit about this Qualcomm iZat, which is meant to improve the GPS location your phone gets, seems some people have it and some people don't.. I'm one of the people who don't
It sounds like all the chipsets have it though, just some phones don't have it enabled. My D855 doesn't have it, but on reddit it seems some people with the Sprint model have it and some others with the same model don't.
You can check if you have it by going to Settings -> Location -> Mode and underneath the standard options there'll be an Enhanced Location section where you can enable iZat.
If anyone here has it and wants to help us who don't out, uploading your /system/build.prop would be appreciated (it looks like theres some iZat settings in there)
If you could also check your apps to see if theres a Qualcomm iZat app installed that'd be swell
Nope, i don't have it i think?
Got a D855 (16GB) but no extra option whatsoever
Not seeing it in either of the locations you mentioned. (AT&T D850 here.)

Well that's strange, I wonder why they're only enabling it on certain phones
For reference I found out about it from http://www.reddit.com/r/LGG3/comments/2c3k3s/lg_g3_and_geocaching_how_is_the_gps/cjbm9q0
Sounds like at least 3 people there have it, one on Sprint, one on Verizon and I don't know about the other one. Hopefully someone on XDA has it too and could maybe help us figure out how to get it ourselves.
AT&T G3 here, no iZat that I have found, even looking around rooted.
I'm on Sprint and I have it, I would upload the build.prop for you guys but I believe I need root and Sprint doesn't have root yet.

Ah well hopefully a root will show up soon, although maybe it's inside your KDZ too, could you maybe go to http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=*********** and change the stars to your IMEI, and copy the sw_url path here so we could take a look into it?

I have the same lines in my build.prop, I think it means that iZat is disabled, but I'm not 100% sure, if you check the reddit post at http://www.reddit.com/r/LGG3/comments/2c3k3s/lg_g3_and_geocaching_how_is_the_gps/cjbm9q0 it says where you can find the setting for it.

Hmm well that's strange, normally it gives a link to the KDZ there, at least it does for me...
Luckily there's another way to check, I used your IMEI at http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/cs_auth_model_check.jsp?esn=************** and it gives a link to http://dl02.gdms.lge.com:5006/dn/downloader.dev?fileKey=PS47109201/LS990ZV4_04.51101.zip, that files not found but googling the name brings up some uploads from other people, time to start digging, thanks for your help :good:
Edit: Looks like we might have already cracked it
Doing searches inside the system.img in that zip for the string "IZat" I found an apk which wasn't on my phone, namely /system/app/xtra_t_app.apk, decompiling this apk showed it as being "com.qualcomm.location.XT". Seeing nothing else related to iZat that my phone didn't already have I took the plunge and installed it, and when I went to Location -> Mode I was greeted with a nice "com.qualcomm.location.XT has had to close" error. Darn! At least the enhanced location section was there, but it had no text under it, just an off/on button.
Determined, I looked into what was happening using adb logcat and it seemed like it was looking for an xt_native library which my phone was missing. I found that at /system/vendor/lib/libxt_native.so in the Sprint image and copied it to my phone, went back to settings and to my surprise the iZat option showed up!
Enabling it brought up some standard privacy policy b/s, and after saying OK to that it seems like it's enabled! Not sure how to check if its working exactly, but seeing as it looked like just this apk and lib file was missing I think it's working
A download for the apk and .so file is at https://mega.co.nz/#!DoQzgSjA!k8OeUr6W6pfhszd-kddVtzXNd7d1voWQsqN-A0D_0J8
To install it you'll need root (although there might be a way to package the .so inside the apk and skip needing it, this is my first time messing with Android since 2010 or so though so I'm a bit rusty with stuff like that)
First mount your system as r/w, running this works for me:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount -t ext4 /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system /system
Copy the libxt_native.so to your /system/vendor/lib/ folder
Run chmod 644 libxt_native.so to set the permissions properly
Install the apk
Restart, go to the location settings and enjoy
The permissions for the apk are pretty crazy and mention some in-call purchasing things, this isn't my doing though. In case you want to verify it you can download the LS990ZV4_04.51101.zip, extract the tot using LGBinExtractor (might need a small mod to support Sprint tots), open the system.img with Ext2explore and compare the hash of the apk I uploaded with the /app/xtra_t_app.apk inside it.
Major thanks to deadh0b0 for helping us find where it was!
Anyway, enjoy
Edit: also, obligatory disclaimer that I'm not responsible for anything that happens by doing this! This is literally just-found-out-about-5-minutes-ago work, so I haven't exactly tested it long, my (3UK D855) phone seems to be working fine though, so hopefully all should be good!
Edit2: I think there might be some more to this, not getting any XT debug messages in logcat besides the settings changes, hmm..
I don't even know how it works but I have it

Dear All,
Please note that LG D855 with V20i bumped image does not have by default the xtra_t_app.apk applied. However it has the related .so library. If xtra_t_app.apk is installed, the Enhanced Location Menu appears and it allows to turn it on/off.

It does not currently support Spanish. It only supports Chinese and English at this time. Sorry!
Nice, someone finally mirrored as the Chinese servers are to slow lol, but some corrections though the ROM does has LTE
Go to general settings > additional > service menu > switch the CDMA to USIM phone should force reboot > following this go back to the service menu and change the Network Mode to Global + LTE That's it.
Also there is another version that puts out updates every Friday here Download Link: http://www.miui.com/download-262.html
Original Source: http://bbs.sonyue.com/thread-96332-1-1.html if anyone can also mirror that one I'd appreciate it as I've had no luck getting it to download lol.

I believe in order to change it to LTE, we would need the Modem to be working. Because the current one tends to freeze MIUI when changing to LTE.
But after some research it looks like you have to flash both the modem and madmacks kernel for it to work. I haven't tested it myself though but I've seen some reports of people doing that back in the General thread. And I'll try and mirror that weekly one and just label this one 'stable' for more options.
Weekly is now up. I've tested it and there should be an update this friday as well via OTA. I'll keep the OP updated a week behind so users can just use the OTA to get to the latest.
This MIUI is pure Daily Driver material. Battery life is great, good performance/features, and GPS location lock is practically stock speed (like ~5 seconds on 3G). They really worked hard on this one :good::good:
Going to test the deep sleep tonight and report back tomorrow.
Update: After flashing the modem, I got a 5% battery drain after 9 hours with Wi-Fi on. So no different from any CM ROM you'll see around here.
Wow, this is one slick getup. The way they've seperated and designed the notication area really pleases me. I'm surprised that design hasn't been ganked by other roms. Mating this with a Cyanogenmod would result in some wicked magic, for sure. CM's awful notication area always maddens me.
This makes me so hype! I'm one of those (seemingly) rare people that really likes miui and have been hoping something with any kind of support would come to the G Pro. Can't wait to flash this tomorrow. Thanks for bringing us this rom.

I just checked the official form post and it looks like it's PTR or TWRP.
Tried installing it yesterday and no bueno. It wouldn't recognize the modem, no matter what I did.

So you were able to flash the modem and there wasn't any signal? Or did the recovery not recognize it?

The modem seemed to flash normally, but after I rebooted, it didn't pick up any network. "Mobile networks" was grayed out in Settings. I tried changing the CDMA settings but it FCed every time I did so and the settings remained unchanged.

Which carrier are you using?
And CDMA settings will FC regardless, it's one of the reasons LTE doesn't work at the moment.
Try going to Settings > Mobile networks > Network carriers and try setting that manually along with the APN.

I'm using AT&T. I'm not thrilled with Commotio (which I flashed yesterday after MIUI bombed) , so I'll try to reflash MIUI in a few minutes.

I'm back on CM11 but when I was using the MIUI 4.10.27 build I had LTE working, you don't need to flash a modem or anything just install normally in aroma and when you get in to the Service Menu select Mobile Networks then click the option Global+LTE and and hit the back button and the icon should change to 4G. Just ignore the changing the CDMA Subscription to USIM step as it doesn't seem to work or effect the E980 so leave it at NV.

Guide: how to update your LG V30+ (H930DS) to Android 9 Pie (BETA! NOT FULL VERSION)

I'm making this thread for those like me, desperate for Pie on our beloved LG V30 (V30+ in this case). Personally I wanted to see if updating to Pie would fix that very annoying GCam issue I've been having (selfie green tint). Spoiler alert: it did not fix anything. Oh well. If you want to try Pie beta on your V30+ for some other reason, here's my guide.
Five things to note before we get started:
1. I wouldn't try this on devices other than H930DS. You've been warned.
2. You cannot go back to previous Oreo firmware if you do this.
3. You must lock your bootloader before you attempt this upgrade (if you unlocked it)
4. Must be on THIS firmware otherwise the operation will not work.
5. In Android Pie Beta for the V30, there are some languages missing in the settings. English is there though.
Now that that's out of the way, let's do this.
Step 1: downloads
Download Pie beta OTA for the H930DS
The file is 1.8 GB.
Download these necessary files (LGUP & drivers) here
Step 2: Preparation
Once you downloaded the zip (thanks to @PilyTam by the way), extract the files to a location of your choice.
Then, install LGMobileDriver_WHQL_Ver_4.2.0.exe, LGUP_Common_DLL_Ver_1_0_28_5.msi , and LGUP_Store_Frame_Ver_1_14_3.msi
The only file that you haven't touched yet is another zip - LGUP V30DLL_PATCHED.zip . Extract the files to where LGUP is installed. By default it will be in C:\Program Files\LG Electronics\LGUP . Replace the files when prompted.
Step 3: Proceeding with the update
Make sure your device has "USB Debugging" enabled in the settings. You can find this option in developer settings.
To enable developer settings:
Go to settings > general > about phone > software info
Now tap "build number" until you see the "you are a developer" message.
Connect your V30 to your PC.
Launch LGUP.
Choose FOTA Upgrade

}
In file path, click on the three dots and find the OTA update - H930DS-V22j-HKG-to-H930DS-V29g-HKG.up
And finally, click Start.
It will appear to be stuck at 4% for some time with the message saying "Flash package" (at least that's what happened to me), but don't panic, just let it do its thing. When the LGUP program says the operation has succeeded, you still have to wait for your V30 to actually apply the update. It will say "FOTA EASY UPDATE" in big blue letters on your screen. And it will take some time to apply the update.
Thanks for reading and good luck everyone. I hope my guide was clear enough. If you need any help I'll do my best to assist you.
Here are some screenshots.

[Guide] Enabling VoLTE/VoWiFi (deprecated)

Deprecated - please see my other guide for a better method: Enabling VoLTE/VoWiFi v2
Preface
Thanks to some help from this amazing community I have found the steps required to enable VoLTE and/or VoWiFi. For me both work, but others have reported differently - but the most likely outcome is that you will only have VoLTE working; you may have to do some experimentation to get both.
Prerequsities
* You must have root. There are several threads on how to do that, so look those up if you need help.
Downloads
* QPST
* Qualcomm USB drivers
* AsusVoLTE app
* MBNs (optional)
Step 1
First of all you will need to install both QPST and the Qualcomm USB drivers from the links above. It's important that you install exactly those ones, or it may not work. Once you've done that, launch PDC.exe in the bin folder of the QPST install (usually C:\Program Files\Qualcomm\QPST\bin\PDC.exe).
Step 2
Download and install the AsusVoLTE app from above and launch it. The app is very simple, and only has two buttons - press Enable PDC and you should hear/see a new device installing. Once that's done, you should see a new device under the Device dropdown in Advanced PDC Tool called something like Qualcomm ... 9091. Select it and you should see some things pop up in the box below - starting with HW_DEFAULT and SW_DEFAULT and probably also ROW_v1. If you only see those you will need to load external ones from the MBNs zip above. Simply press the Load button and select the mbn you want. Keep in mind that you will only be able to load MBNs from the zip above, ones from another device will *not* work.
Step 3
Now comes the tricky part; we have to find a profile that actually works on your carrier. For me the VivoVoWiFi_v5 profile enables both VoLTE and VoWiFi, but this may or may not work for you. Most of them at the very least enabled VoLTE for me.
To actually activate a profile you have to right-click on it, select SetSelectedConfig and Sub0, then repeat it but press Sub1 instead. After you've done that Sub0 and Sub1 for that profile should have changed to Pending, so simply highlight it again and press the Activate button at the bottom of the screen. This should change Sub0 and Sub1 to say Active and it should also be moved to the top of the list just below HW_DEFAULT and SW_DEFAULT.
To check if it works you have to either reboot, or you can do the far simpler thing and press Reset Connection in the AsusVoLTE app. This will disable the mobile connection for a few seconds but once it's back on you should hopefully see either VoLTE or VoWiFi in the status bar. If not, you will have to try another profile! It can be quite time consuming finding one that works for you, but if you get VoLTE on at least one of them there's a chance one of them will also enable VoWiFi.
Recommended profiles
Below I will compile a list of carriers and the profile that works best for them.
Carrier - Profile - Function
AT&T - VivoVoWiFi_v5 - VoLTE
H3G SE - VivoVoWiFi_v5 - VoLTE & VoWiFi
Hot Mobile Israel - NLVFVoWiFi_v1 - VoLTE & VoWiFi
Orange Romania - VivoVoWiFi_v5 - VoLTE
Source code:
AsusVoLTE - Github
Let me know if this works for you, or if you have any questions.
Regards
Waiting for someone in the US to confirm this works before pulling the trigger on this phone
Hi I'm from Mumbai, India...for me VoLTE working perfectly. I just want to enable VoWIFI... But my device is not rooted yet.
Let's wait for sometime to see if VoWIFI is working without rooting or not as presently not even a single custom ROM available for ROG 2 so i don't have any reasons to root device.
Still a huge thanks for your all efforts and help what you did for our beast ROG 2...

None of the signed MBNs included with the phone work for T-Mobile, unfortunately. We can't load unsigned ones from other devices.
I believe this has worked on AT&T!

I used the same one he mentioned. The VivoVoWiFi_v5 profile. Thats the first one I tried and it worked right away. Tested a call to another cell I have that I know has VoLTE and it sounds so much better on ROG Phone 2 now, so I can confirm this is working on AT&T 100%

Indeed. I will aim to compile a list in the first post with the recommended profile for each carrier - so it would help if you all could let me know what carrier you are on and what profile you're using!
Someone else with T-Mobile US should try it just to confirm that it doesn't work.

I believe your findings would work with the ZenFone 6. You should head over to their forum and let them have a go. It might even work with the original ROG Phone.
First of all, @HomerSp please create a donation option, I would appreciate the chance to buy you a beer for all the hard work you've done.
Carrier - Hot Mobile Israel, profile - KDDIVOWIFI_V4, function - volte and vowifi, UT doesn't work.
What is UT? Now I can't go into the carrier settings inside the dialer it gives me an error message so I can't cancel call waiting and hide my number for outgoing calls, no big deal for me I will try more profiles tomorrow.

Tried a few other profiles, mostly ones with "VoWIFI" in their name. A lot of these worked for AT&T for VOLTE. Only a few gave me the Video Calling in IMS. The closet I could get was "testSIMViWifi_v4" profile gave me everything BUT VoWifi.
Made sure VoWIFI was enabled in the settings as well. Any ideas?

Flash the Magisk zip file after you flash a full firmware zip.
I'm not sure if my next question belongs in this thread. But since my ROG Phone 2 is currently rooted with an unlocked bootloader. Is there a way to retain this without having to flash the RAW FW and relock the bootloader?
Is there a reason I cant re-flash the stock boot.img and then use fastboot to relock the bootloader?
As a test, I reflashed the latest RAW firmware and relocked the bootloader. And as I expected VOLTE was not enabled again. However, after re-rooting and using PDC, I saw that the profile I used to enable VOLTE was still Active. Would all I need to do is reflash the RAW FW then use ADB to enable the settings in the menu?
any way to open serial without root?
