finger print unlock actions - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6

I made the mistake of going with an iphone in December after being on Android since 2010, I really miss Android to say the least, how ever one tweak I particularly like about my jail broken iphone 6 is I can use my fingerprint to automatically fill in passwords, is this something that can be done on the S6 in stock form without root? I'm about to pull the trigger and need to know this first
Thanks!

Face lock actually is useful!!! And not a gimmick like they say!!!

Just wanted you guys feelings on how this feature is doing in your nexus life. I actually use it as a security feature and it hasn't let me down and I don't think it will. I'd like to hear your thoughts. That's one up on the iphone.
Transmitted from The LTE Starship... GNEX!!!!
Less secure than PIN or pattern unlock as the 'PIN' in the case of Face Unlock is literally written all over your face.
Note that the argument is actually more complicated than this because it depends on what threat you're actually trying to secure your phone from.
the one are i think this is the most useful is when i'm driving and i have to unlock. tell me that isn't convenient.
I tried it for two days, but I became tired of looking like a real winner in public unlocking my phone, as well as it didn't catch my face all the time. (about 66% of the time) I do agree however that it is more than a gimmick.

It would be great if the preview image from face unlock could be disabled. I know I'm handsome and all, but I don't want to look at my mug 63 times a day.
I tried it at the verizon store and it seemed pretty legit. Does anybody know if this is a galnex only feature or will it come to all ics devices with a front facing camera?
Well,count me as loving it.
It's very fast. Works about 90% of the time if you do half a dozen shots under different conditions with the improve matching feature.
I really like it.

I installed the OTA onto my Nexus S, it is not an option even though it has an ffc.

I think it's just like any other security lock on smartphones. PIN, pattern, and face unlock, they are all the same imho. If I got the phone in my hand, I'll be able to see what you have no matter what. Doesn't matter what kind of security feature you have.
i was surprised that it worked with my glasses on and off. i initially set it up, but i cant be bothered setting up a secure lock screen, since i like quick camera access which cant be had with a PIN or face unlock
using it on mine, however the one interesting thing is, I was showing off on launch day. And handed my phone to my mom and said unlock it. She turned it on and it recognized her faster than me. As posted previously, use the improve feature in settings

I'm actually constantly surprised by how well the face unlock works! And if for whatever reason you want to bypass it quickly, you can just tap at the bottom of the screen to go immediately to whatever your backup method is!
I tried a couple facebook pictures of myself and those didn't unlock, and I also haven't tried to see if it might recognize my brother as me but honestly, if someone really wanted to get into your phone, they would regardless of what kind of "security" you use. In my opinion, the face unlock is quick, functional and cool. What's not to like?

Yeah, and Face Unlock on all the custom ICS builds was absolutely horrible. Worked maybe 1/10 times after setting it up in perfect lighting.

It's in 4.0.2, you won't find it in 4.0.1
It takes too long for my liking.
I find it stupid that my Nexus won't let me use face recognotion if I setup a VPN, it forces you to choose between a pin/pattern/password. So now if I want to use face unlock I have to create then delete my VPN connection everytime.

Verizon Edge - Note 4 Newbie

Greetings and Merry Xmas! Quick question for those familiar with the Verizon Edge program - I recently took advantage of the Note 4 deal for $149. Since I've been a Verizon customer for years and never plan on changing (unless North Korea hacks them and ruins the service), I went with the Edge deal, paying $29/month.
Coming from an iPhone 5S, I'm noticing that there were some things I really took for granted, which I'm unable to do on the Note (e.g. One-handed texting, dialing, etc) I know this is possible with some settings adjustments, but the larger size makes it cumbersome. Don't get me wrong, as a tech lover, this thing is awesome. Definitely one of the best phones out there overall.
That aside, if I decide I need to switch back to my iPhone or another (smaller) Android device - is it possible to re-active my old phone to my line without any penalty? Also, if I'm able to do this, doesn't that also mean that I could technically sell my Note 4 on the private market for several hundred beans without any impact to my monthly billing?
Thanks in advance!
I love my Note 4 coming from an S3 but my wife's IPhone 6 plus is no slouch.
Have you tried activating one handed mode? It's amazing when coupled with swype.
Have you tried going to settings, one-handed input? You can shrink the screen and also push your dialer, calculator, keyboard, etc., over to one side. There's even a setting for on-screen buttons that you can move around, so you don't have to move your finger all the way to the bottom of the screen.
As for your other questions, you're going to have to ask Verizon. I have no idea how Verizon Edge works, as I've never used it.
I'll give the setting a try, thanks guys!

That's why Notes are the best phablets around: they offer the best features for big screens. Want to do several things at once, using your big screen? No problem. Want a smaller screen at times to use with one hand? Samsung has you covered. Want to be able to have access to your buttons without reaching to the bottom of the phone? There's a setting for that.
Anyway, Merry Christmas to you, and I'm glad we could help.

This is why ANDROID is the best because it gives you options...iOS will give you one MAYBE 2 ways of doing something...if you don't like it you're stuck....I have an iPad Mini and while I like the apps and look of the OS...just doing simple tasks you have to find some sort of work around....I think both OS's have their place & some people are better off with one over the other....
U can sell the note 4 with no problems. But u will lose the discount for having a edge device on a 10gb or more plan. And u won't be able to edge up that line unless u pay the edge agreement off or give them the note 4 back

but you will still get the edge discount, because technically you're still in an edge agreement, only thing is you'll be paying for the phone still as well, might not be worth selling.
Honestly I'd keep it, won't get an upgrade for two years either
If you are within your 14 days just pay the 35$ restocking fee and return it. If not, call verizon and see what they can do for you. If the size is your problem they might be able to offer an alternate replacement. It will be a hit or miss but its worth the try. I hope this helps

Trying to make the best of a bad situation (root)

I have been hanging around on my Sprint Note 3, for quite a while looking for my next phone. I was thinking about waiting for the new Nexus 6, especially since I have a Google Fi invite. My girlfriend decided to surprise me by trading in my note 3, and adding me her at&t mobile value share. I am happy to be off Sprint, but my girlfriend didn't realize the downsides to the phone she got me. Battery, SD card is a little annoying, but of course no root. Yikes.
I'm going to attempt to keep the phone because it is a gift. But, for those on the note 5 bandwagon, have you found passable solutions to any of the things we always use.
Whether it's proper adblocking, disabling all the bloatware, or even being to completely remove what I don't want on my phone.
Has anyone found anything that can even help recreate the functions of root we all miss.
I like the phone a lot, but rooted would make me love it. Or gladly throw in a few hundred to a thousand dollar's to members researching over the new Knox subsystem.
Keep in mind root negates android pay and samsung pay I believe. The latter is Mr favorite feature.

I don't get the Samsung pay thing and why people are so enamored with it.
It looks like it takes twice as much effort as whipping out my card, and you still have to manually enter the pin anyway. Why is everybody so Snake Charmed with this?
Pin? I use cc and at places that don't have nfc.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
You could have easily found an answer to all your questions on the first page of the sub-forums in this sub. There is Package disabler pro to disable all your bloatware, and adguard (not in appstore) for adblocking. As far as features we all miss from root? You may need to be more specific, this is the first phone I have not rooted and installed custom roms on, and I am not really missing anything. As far as not liking this phone for not having a microsd and removable battery. The Nexus 6p you were interested in does not have any of those features either.

How many considering returning it back to Verizon?

We know that Verizon has gimped this device. We know Verizon has sold app space on our device storage to the highest bidder. Yes we could disable apps and get around a lot of things. But Verizon has literally treated as FOOLS. Is it all worth it?
We have a 14 day return policy. In my case I have 90 days thru Costco (I believe).
How many if you are seriously considering returning it?
I have until Friday Sept 2nd for my 14 days.
It's amazing how much I had enjoyed the OP3. Now I'm seriously considering throwing the phone back in Verizon's face (figuratively of course).
How many of you are considering returning?
Why return when you can Odin TMO or AT&T firmware since the hardware is the same for all carriers? The only feature I wanted was Samsung cloud and that is now doable and working for me. BThe rest of the features disabled are minimal IMHO.

No, they don't support the same bands I believe. Unless someone finds a way to enable them, you could always go with the N930U when it comes out.
TBH I always consider returning anything. Then the 14 days comes and goes...
Look, it's only been a week and there's already root. Even if it's a pain in the arse to do, you have it. That may be close to a record.
Compared to the Note 5 which hasn't been touched. Look how long the Note 4 took to get somewhere.
We could only hope for a way to unlock the bootloader.
But until then, at least there is a way to root the device and it's actually a bonafide root. None of this temporary stuff.
I'm sure this cross flashing stuff will get patched in a future release.
But it's always a challenge at first.
I liked the hardware and options when the S7E came out. Then as I used the phone it started pissing me off. That one I regretted keeping past the return. When I got my GearVR (finally got it in June!) I broke out my Note 5 and used it with that. Then I realized how much I missed the Note 5 and started using it again and put the S7E in a drawer.
Now that the Note 7 is here I'm finding it has the features I like in the Note 5 with the features of the S7E minus its shortcomings. (especially the over sensitive screen and edge panels!). I do wish they stuck with the 16MP sensor. HOWEVER, the camera software on the Note 7, particularly in professional mode, is superior to any Samsung device prior. Being able to adjust shutter speed while shooting video rocks!

I agree. This phone improves upon the S7E. Like you, I always buy with the intention of returning but the Note is a keeper and will be my daily driver. I'll attempt root tomorrow and see how it goes. I like the fact we can always Odin back to stock and maybe I'll try the TMO firmware since I have a TMO sim.

Never.. I love this thing.. I really didn't think I would.. But even with them messing with things(i consider them like 5 year old kids that can't leave anything alone), I still like the device. And at this point, I blame Samsung.. They either don't care(which it honestly seems to me to be the case), or simply have no guts..
Either way, there are ways around most of the carrier foolishness.. And it honestly makes me laugh. This is by far the fastest root to have been achieved on a note that I can remember, and I've had all but the 5. The moor they try and lock things down, the better our developers get.. And hire all they want, as it shows, there are plenty in the waking that each generation, are better and more determined than the last.. So I say, to Verizon, who really cares about your bloat and messing.. It will be worked around anyhow..
But no, I wouldn't trade this thing for the world
from note 7
I'm debating on it because I for some reason dont get any better battery life than I do with my 6P. I did a hard reset last night and downloaded the apps manually that I use in a day and gonna try that out today and see how it works. If its still garbage it more than likely will go back

1. The software settings options Verizon had received. I thought it was funny when one of the threads mentioned the removal of ram and battery options. Some people were pissed cause it was gone and the other side was largely berating them because "programmers were better know and knew what was best to optimize the phone."
I feel that flies in the face of what so many android users want and the xda forum stands for. If I buy a phone, it's my phone, to do with as I damn well please, for better or worse.
2. My job puts my phone in some very tough and tumble situations. Quite frankly, I don't feel there's a case/screen protector combo that will keep it safe. I've previously sworn by iblaison cases, and I'm willing to bet they have survived more abuse than many of you put your phones through.
When they get the case/screen/body protector thing figured out, maybe I'll be back.
Guys... in light of the recall today AND the other issues that I've talked about.. I have returned by Galaxy Note 7. It was fun while it lasted, but the last thing I want is the phone exploding or catching fire (small chance.. but still good enough for samsung to issue a recall and stop the sales).
I returned it back to Costco and got the Moto Z Droid instead. So long guys..

Update 20161024: My apologies! I have updated the OP with links that do not require decryption keys.
So, I am one of the poor souls that waited, impatiently, for the Note 7's release. Reading all of the rumors and leaks along the way, that flagship went from the Note 6 with dual cameras and the ability to cook you breakfast to the Note 7 with one camera and if you had the battery issue, could possibly cook your pants.
Still, I owned the first and second iteration. Even after Samsung announced they were done, I still had hope. The beautiful curve of the screen (less prone to accidental touches), the waterproof S-Pen with it's fine tip, the massive, over saturated screen that I have come to love about Samsung and the knowledge that I had the phone that I wanted, without settling.
Alas, I recently turned in my Note 7. I considered the Pixel XL but the ship date has said 6-8 weeks for approximately 6-8 weeks. I looked at the LG V20 the first to use band 66... Although I don't know how good, reliable or available that is. But 1. It's LG and 2. Unreleased, untested and unloaded with Samsung Pay (which is something I love) Quick side note, every time I have used SP for the first time with a different phone during this whole process, I have been gifted the $10 initial purchase gift card, I'm at $50 in first time uses as of now. I ordered the Note 5 but could not handle the lack of external memory and somehow the thought of it not being ip68 bothered me...
Now I'm here with the S7 Edge again. Trying to cope with my loss. In an effort to make things a little better I have searched around. Because I use SP, I don't root anymore (well played Samsung) but I have found some APKs that help, even just a little...
Samsung Notes, the new and improved note-taking suit introduced on the Note 7 can be found below. I find it stupid to write with my finger but it gives me access to the things I wrote when I was happy, before the tragedy:

Install both as a normal APK.
*Just to clarify, I didn't create these APKs, I found them*
If anyone had found any other coping mechanisms, please share. We have to stick together and hope that the Note series won't suffer the same fiery fate as it's latest addition.

Have you found a way to draw on screen shots, after you take them.... Similar to screen write on the Note 7....that's the thing i am going to miss the most.

While it's a few more steps you can still draw on screenshots. After you take the screenshot open it with Gallery then click the edit icon the bottom, then click the drawing icon.

Like the post above mine says, it's a couple more steps but here's a shortcut on his method...
The notification that pops up when you take a screen shot has "edit" as an option... Select that, then "Photo Editor" and at the bottom "draw" is an option.
I feel you on that though. And it's just not the same without the pen
