Easy installation in less than 5 minutes with only the FireTV
https://github.com/sphinx02/AppStarter/wiki/Install-AppStarter-and-Kodi-(only-FireTV-needed)
Standard installation via ADB
If you don't know how to sideload/install apps via ADB, read a tutorial (e.g. this one)
Download latest AppStarter APK and sideload/install with adb:
adb install -r AppStarter_v4.0.apk
Enjoy..
TO UPDATE APP: Simply use the integrated updater mechanism.
Why using it:
AppStarter provides a nice possiblity to show all user installed Apps.
AppStarter provides an Updater for Kodi and SMPC which allows to keep these two Apps up to date in a very convinient way.
Changelog:
v4.0
Renamed App to AppStarter
Renamed package to de.belu.appstarter
Removed home button observation as not needed anymore
v3.2.3
Added SPMC updater (possibility to install and update SPMC).
Added simplified chinese translation (thx lostindark).
v3.2.2
Fixed wrong app start of apps using the leanback-lib (e.g. MagineTV)
Updated translations
v3.2.1
Fixed "parse packet error" for Kodi updates
Added setting to decide which Kodi version is installed / updated (stable, beta / rc, nightly)
v3.2
Added possiblity to install / update Kodi (see Updates section). Thank you very much attilaszasz for your contribution!
Made "Background for App Names" a bit brighter. Thanks semitop7 for your contribution!
Added semi-transparent background for system, updates and settings section if the "Background for App Names" setting is enabled. Thanks semitop7 for your contribution!
v3.1.1
Fixed flashing screen / start app problems (disabled JumpbackWatchdog for FireOS5).
Updated translations
v3.1
Added setting to show background for app names in the app drawer (helps to read app names when wallpaper is used).
Added setting to hide left selection bar when on the main screen (app drawer).
Fixed backup (export/import) settings feature for FireOS5.
Updated russian and ukranian translations (thanks sem_top7 and Kramar111).
v3.0
Optimized ADB connection mechansims for FireOS5. Should now work without disable + enable ADB after reboots. Still no parallel ADB connections possible.
Added shortcut to ADB settings in AppStarter settings.
Added first try of completely new detecting home-button clicks without adb (which is also used as Fallback after 3 failed ADB connects). The new non-ADB observation of the home-button works only if you are on the original Amazon FireTV Home screen. This means if you are in any other App like Kodi, you have to click the home button once to get to the Amazon FireTV Home screen and then you can single or double click the home-button to perform the action desired. In practice that means, you can also add one home button click if you are in another app. If you are for example in Kodi, you can do a double-click to the home-button to perform the single click operation and according to this you can do a triple click to perform the double click action. Sorry for this strange behaviour but due to technical limitations of Android, there is no other possibility without ADB at the moment.
Removed restart-option and replaced it with notification how to restart with the remote.
Better handling of the jumback-detection -> fixes some unnessecary jumpbacks especially when the click-action is "- No Action -" or "FireTV Home". You can again safely use the jumpback detection (e.g. with default of 5000ms)!
Option to start click-action apps with FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TASK -> Previous instances of the App are cleared before start (e.g. AppStarter then starts always on the first icon which is useful for some people with programmable remote's).
Everything only tested with FireOS4 on FireTV and with FireOS5 Developer Preview on FireTV-Stick. I am not yet able to test on a FireTV2 with the real FireOS5.
v2.7.2
Show device uptime and boot time in system tab
Back button returns to main app view if on another tab
Removed Go-To-Sleep functionality, as it is anyway possible via long-press home-button. The existing implementation was not reliable enough and made some problems under specific circumstances.
v2.7.1
Added russian and ukranian translations (any other language contributions are welcome). Thx to XDA user sem_top7 for the translations!
Fixed bug in file selector (no image files found in root-folder)
Fixed (hopefully) bug in manual language selection which sometimes lead to a mixed language
v2.7
Little redesign of the GUI
Added date & time information at top
Made the app-icons a little bit smaller (5 apps per row and still big enough)
Added customizable icon-size in settings
Added possibility to export / import settings
Added more informations to the system-tab
Added possibility to modify the time of no action till the FireTV goes to sleep
Added possibility to go directly to sleep from AppStarter (little hack, setting the time-to-sleep to a very short value and set it back after wake-up)
NOTES:
Be carefull with the go-to-sleep feature, only tested it on FireTV not on FireTV-Stick. Advanced users give me feedback if it works please .
The setting of the general time of no action till FireTV goes to sleep is safe to use. It is a default Android-Setting which can be edited by apps (I don't understand why Amazon isn't giving us this feature..).
v2.6
Custom wallpaper via settings (JPG / PNG cropped to fit screen)
Renamed "All Apps" to "Apps" and "Infos" to "System"
Added WiFi name to System-Tab
Added possibility to reboot FireTV to System-Tab
Added FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK and FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TASK to startup-action (perhaps helps some people reporting weird colors when starting Kodi as startup-action)
NOTES:
Tried to add sleep-button to bring FireTV to sleep-mode but it seems as this is not possible without root, if anyone knows anything else, please report...
Settings ex-/import and more themeable GUI are still on my TODO.
v2.5
Check out settings-button: Added menu for apps to move app (same than long-click) or to open app-specific settings
Items in the left selection bar are now also clickable with a mouse
Added german translation and manual setting of the current language
Spelling corrections
v2.4.1
Apps are not started with FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TASK which lets app resume their last activity.
Replaced some icons / made some visual optimizations
For timing settings, now the correct inputtype is used (number only keyboard is displayed).
Adjusted default-timings (only for fresh installations).
Minor fixes.
v2.4
Implemented jumpback prevention watchdog which prevents amazon home from coming to the foreground after click-actions (configurable in settings). Thanks XDA user harlekinrains for this idea.
Removed now unnessecary action-delay setting.
Added FireTV settings application to apps-list. Thanks XDA user fsi09 for this idea.
Some code cleanup / optimization.
v2.3
Fixed ugly bug in settings (kind of endless loop), which caused huge cpu-load and weird behaviour of settings storage.
Fixed bug when sysapp were set visible and apps were reordered, sysapps were not hided again on settings change.
Allow greater double-click interval and action delay (up to 1000ms).
v2.2
Added adjustable double-click interval and action-delay
Reordered settings
When going to app-drawer, first icon is automatically focused (configurable in settings)
Update service (able to update itself)
v2.1
Fixed problems on FireTV-Stick (which by default has multiple local adb-devices), thanks to harlekinrains for logcat-infos
Added AppStarter version to info view
v2.0
Real Home-Button detection, even double-home-button-clicks are captured
Completely new GUI with settings and additional Infos
Completely configurable actions
Hide-App feature

You can also include some informative things; time, date, weather etc. to the corners maybe.
Different backgrounds option might be a good feature to have.

@legendnexus
The current version is my "first shot" and for the beginning a good working solution was more important. But yes I also thought about adding some informative things.. Thank you, I will put it on my ToDo-List
@harlekinrains
Thank you for your detailed (and merciless^^) feedback:
You are right, the replacement-icon is grap, but I'm not a designer and in a quick way it shows the replacement capability and is better than the original IkonoTV-Icon. I think about a better one
Hiding apps is definetly planed, I add it to my ToDo-List. But at the moment I am not "guessing" which apps the user dont want to see, I simply do not show system apps but only user installed apps (except for kftv-launcher/amazonhome).
I am with you, that look&feel is very important and I try to work on this part
Your requirement:
I do not really understand your requirement, do you mean to simply start another app instead of the App but with the same home- and startup-detection? Is this not what AFTV Launcher Helper already does?

Ok I understand now, perhaps I will add this in future as an option.
For me it feels more attractive to have only one app without huge configuring steps.. For me the most important part is, that also beginners are able to use the App. That is why on the top of my ToDo-list are better installation instructions and possibility to install / keep updated some of the most famous apps from the App directly. So in the end my focus is really the usability espspecially for non-experts. I also think about a little (windows-) installation tool with auto-detection of the FireTV and Wizard-Charakter for the installation of the App. But this all is a lot of work and I dont know when I find the time to..
Anyway I am really happy to hear other's opinion and to get more inspiration by users, thank you again harlekinrains for your constructive feedback
BTW: Thanks for your uninstallation hint, perhaps I should also add an uninstallation routine, which cleans up the .imagecache-folder and triggers the the App uninstallation then..

v2.0
Forget what I realeased in v1.0, I am proud to present a completely new way of detecting the home-button-click in v2.0
The XDA-user g4rb4g3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56319876&postcount=87 pointed me to the right corner of the home-button detection and I think it works brilliant (as long as you keep adb-debugging enabled on the FireTV). As some requested, everything is completely configurable, so you can use my app also to only start your favourite apps.

Hey harlekinrains, too bad that it is not working on the firetv-stick out of the box. I had no firetv-stick to test, as my sister has it at the moment .
Thank you very much for the log's thats very helpful! I think we can rule out the performance of the firetv-stick, as the new way of catching the home-button click via adb is very performant. The only hard-coded timing is the waiting-time for the second click in the double-click detection. The other timings are only to trigger these informative toast messages. I think the reason could be, that on the firetv-stick usb-debugging is not possible? Could that be? That would not be an problem, I only have to change the way I connect to the local adb.
EDIT : Normally it must not be enabled in the settings. On my FireTV it is disabled and everything works perfect. The question was only: Is there a setting for usb-debugging on the FireTV-Stick?
If you have (and really only if you have) the time to, you can chek the following things (I do it on my own as far as I have the time to and have mit FireTV-Stick back):
From the shell of your pc go to the shell of the FireTV-Stick:
Code:
adb connect [IP of your FireTV-Stick]
adb shell
Then in the shell on the FireTV-Stick enter the following commands and tell me whats the output:
Code:
adb devices
adb logcat -c

"All mighty RNG" - I dont get it :crying:
Thank you for the output, I think everything is clear now, the fact that there are by default two devices listed is the problem. I have to change my code to use adb with an explicit device. On my FireTV by default I have only the "emulator.."-entry which let it work without specifiing the adb-device..
Perhaps I can provide an update this afternoon, at the moment I am too busy

I have a Fire TV box and after a restart it says observer needs too long. That message is only viewable for seconds. The app doesnt work so far for me . Too bad

v2.1
After your feedback, I tried to fix the remaining problems especially on the FireTV-Stick. I had again no FireTV-Stick to test the changes but I'm pretty sure my changes will rule out the problems. Please tell me if it works on your devices
v2.1
Fixed problems on FireTV-Stick (which by default has multiple local adb-devices), thanks to harlekinrains for logcat-infos

Thanks for your quick support! I can confirm that this even works on the Fire TV BOX now! Big Thanks! One of the must have apps.

harlekinrains said:
Works now on the Fire TV Stick as well - as intended.
Allthough - it doesnt work all the time, depending on memory load
....
But as with Fire TV Helper - it seems to be possible to set a condition, even without root - that a jumpback - to the amazon menu is not - triggered. I wander if a timed jumpback block would be helpful here as well - the logic goes:
Button pressed - jumpback block blocks execution of the Amazon menu for *user setable time in seconds* - App launches (has said seconds to launch without the risk of getting interrupted) - jumpback block to the Amazon menu is removed.
.....
So idk if it will be fixable by the approach above (prevent the Amazon launcher to (re)start for a set time window after pressing the home button).

Hey harlekinrains, thank you again for your feedback
I dont have this behaviour on my FireTV but yes you're right, that sounds like a timing problem. The problem can be, that the new home-button detection method is too fast, which means that the launch of the custom-app is initiated before the launch of the amazon home launcher. Then it can happen, that the amazon launcher cames up instead of the custom selected app.
I can not imagine, that there is a way to prevent the amazon launcher from starting.. Dont know the feature of Fire TV Helper and I also cant jump into the sources, as it is not open source..
Two possibilities:
either I make a litte (customizable) delay for the custom start action (so e.g. the App or FiredTV is started with a little delay after the home-button-detection)
or somebody provides me with the ability to block the amazon-launcher from comming up..

I tried a little bit around and let TuneIn-Radio run in the background and then clicked like going wild^^ And infact when I set ES File Explorer as One-Click-Action and repeated clicking very fast single-clicks one after each other, I endend in a curious half-loaded amazon home screen. But a short view in the logcat showed, that not the App made something wrong but ES File Explorer was the reason, as it was in a "wake-lock" situation. Going to FireTV settings and force-stop ES File Explorer get it working again, perhaps thats the behaviour you ment? But thats some kind of monkey-test, I think nobody will switch apps that fast..
Anyway, in the next version I will add adjustable second-click-interval and also an adjustable delay for click-actions, perhaps this helps to prevent these situations..

v2.2
New Version with more adjustable settings and an integrated updater mechanism
@harlekinrains
Please check if your problems are solved by a little action-delay (I think something around 50ms should be enough).
@ all
Have fun with the new update
v2.2
Added adjustable double-click interval and action-delay
Reordered settings
When going to app-drawer, first icon is automatically focused (configurable in settings)
Update service (able to update itself)
Hit THANKS button if you like it!

Hmmm, ok none of this problems on my FireTV, it's hard to solve problems I can not reproduce.. But I have now again a FireTV-Stick of a friend of mine, so perhaps I can reproduce the behaviour on this device. But I guess you have to wait a little bit as I am on a little trip over the weekend.
One question: Are you now using the App (in daily use) or still only install it for testing? Would really feel happy if I got you as an user

harlekinrains said:
....
May I also suggest, that you set up single click "no action" and doubleclick "the App" as the default action. It somehow makes the program feeling less "intrusive" (like its taking over a Fire TV functionality) and just delivers an added value (launching an alternative launcher). Which I guess would encourage more users to try using your app. At the same time, it doesnt focus on your launcher so much, so its a toss up. Im not invested personally either way - as you integrated the user setable options - Its just a thought. (And might not even be the right one.)

I like your thoughts about the default-actions.. I think about it on the weekend Thank you for your frequent feedback, keep it up

i'll give this a try next week but right now i'm too busy to test it.
Ps: Sorry für den Abstieg :<

Hume Button Settings
First things first....great work....love the clean look of FireStarter-Launcher :good:
my only concern is the action taking, by clicking the HomeButton once.
Is there a chance to get back to the Amazon Home by clicking the HomeButton only one time and not by doubleclicking the homebutton?
I think this part is missing in the settings menu for the HomeButton single click action.....or am i wrong? :silly:
kind regards

Hey thanks for this Launcher, I really like it
I testet FiredTV Launcher too and the only thing that it missing in your app is: please let the app show the settings app so I can start it via your launcher, so i dont have to use the Amazon launcher anymore
(With show system apps I cant find the settings app)

v2.3
Hello everybody, back from my WE trip I found a really bad bug in the settings handling which on one hand caused that the action-delay have not been saved and on the other hand also caused unnessecary cpu-load. I fixed that bug and another bug with show-sys-apps setting. I also tested the App on a FireTV-Stick and it worked quite good. With the now working action-delay setting, I got very good results by leaving the double-click interval default and setting the action-delay to 100ms. But also with the default 10ms I had never one of theses half-amazon-home, half-app-screens.. Perhaps its also depended on what else is installed or running on the stick, I will keep an eye on it..
Thank you all for your feedback and have fun with the new bugfix-release which can be updated in-app via the updater-mechanism

I Must Say:
This is really nice, I do have a reg editor, which is really all this is. But it has a great GUI, and unlike the OldSAPFavorites, it actually works like it's supposed to work.
I am really impressed by the author, and heck I might even try to improve on this. Although I don't really see how.
Props to the author, and to everyone who hasn't checked this out, it's definitely worth the time. It takes you to exactly what you want to edit. Updates it perfectly.
Rock on!!!
Aww man... This GREATLY eliminates the headache of having to do this through the registry! It's pretty much the same process--just a more user friendly interface!

Ops! Stupid me. Should try the apps first before commenting.
Anyway how about a module to modify the layout - changing the cpr file's fontsize, text placement and slide size. Make a visual presentation of changes being made.
Currently in order to see changes made to the cpr file, require changes in the settings>homescreen.
Thanks and thanks for such a useful apps.

And how do you propose he accomplish that ? You STILL have to reload the CHome plugin to see your changes. Besides, making a GUI editor for the CPR files could prove to a huge pain in the ass, probably not worth his time

Just responding to his comments. Too bad I'm not a coder. Well, if it can be done without hurting anyones's a$$,well and good. Otherwise....
Only suggestions I could think of for an improvements is perhaps getting rid of red for the disabled ones. Its a non-standard GUI practice. More commonly the disabled would be grey, or struck through, and an icon pair, like perhaps an eye & a circleslash (or similar) would denote the visiblity of the active ones. And maybe some way of not moving them to the bottom if they are enabled-invisible, but letting them stay in place.
Still, rather trifling things, and very nice app, that should be standadrd in any 6.1 ROM, as of now, IMHO, and should probably be in the settings Cpanel! Good stuff.
There is no software without bugs
There was a bug in version 0.9.0.0 which prevents Softkey2 URL to keep it value after the settings are saved. So I have updated the software to version 0.9.0.1. Please read the first post for more details.

It would be nice but it would be more like a software running on PC not on the phone because of its complexity and I don't think I'll have time for that for awhile

Belive me, grouping the panels by their visibility is more difficult to do than leaving them in place but I chose that way because it represents exactly what the user will get on the homescreen.
*Off topic*The version number starts at 0.9.x.x: because I haven't had enough time to implement every features I have planned for version 1.0.
Features still not implemented:
Changing page order on Customize window
Adding/Deleting page on Customize window
First of all, thank you for making such a great app. I installed it on my Vox and it works great. The only question I have is: How can I add the CLinks page? When I make it visible, it's not on the homescreen, because it's just not present in the reg. Is there an easy way of adding it?
so i was messin around with it because it diddnt seem you work i hid all the panles and now it wont load even a blank screen when i reset it it freezes at with the start menu bar showing and the windows wait symbol anyone got an idea or am i F'd
Can you still open it with Active Sync? Because if, you might wanna delete the sliding themes and then reboot. It'll probably show that it can't load a layout, but you can acces the startmenu again.

I tried that myself and it required a hard reset to fix the problem. I didn't expect the homescreen to crash like that when no panel is visible (typical Microsoft QA
To do a hardreset:
- Turn off the phone
- Remove the battery for a few seconds and put it back
- Hold both your soft keys for a couple seconds and then while still holding the 2 keys, press power on.
I'll make sure that there's must be at least one visible panel in the next release.
Top Bar Gone
When I install either this one or CHome Weather, the top bar with the status icon disappears. If I uninstall both, the top bar reappears. I have tried it several times, and I get the same results. Any ideas?

Does it just reload the homescreen? If it does, it want work with for people using the TestUIPlugin(like CHome Weather). If this panel is being used, then a reboot is needed to reload the homescreen. But I could be wrong, I was once before.

[APP] Shopping Cart v 5.3 available now!

** version 5.3 available now! **
Information:
You no longer need to uninstall previous version(s) before installing the latest version!
If you have AppToDate you can use that to update the application to the latest version!
This requires .NET compact flash 3.5!
This supports Windows Mobile 6, 6.1 and 6.5.
Supported resolutions are 240x320, 320x320, 240x400, 480x640 and 480x800 in both portrait and landscape modes.
Downloads are in post 2 or you can use AppToDate to update it.
If you create your own language files please upload them to this thread so I can include them with the application!
Upcoming:
Add language support for configuration utility and save/open/browse dialogs. Currently only the main application supports alternate languages.
Possibly adding price information option per item (this would toggle-able by a setting).
Possibly adding finger gesture recognition for different things.
Possibly adding SMS support.
Possibly adding Today plugin.
Possibly add D-pad support.
Version 5.3:
New features:
Shopping Cart Companion - You can use this tiny application to easily create and manage lists (both standard and master lists) from your PC and transfer them directly to your device.
Fixes:
Optimized code greatly for larger lists. Opening a large list, e.g. 40 items per tab over 3 tabs opens in 5 seconds instead of 30. This has a huge impact on older / slower devices.
Version 5.2:
New features:
Shopping lists now have the typical elastic rebound effect when a list is scrolled beyond the beginning or end of a list.
Fixes:
The position of a shopping list no longer automatically scrolls to the top of the list if you click an entry that is below the "first page" of the list.
Version 5.1:
New features:
Save As menu option for new lists.
New setting to save a new list automatically.
New option under Settings/General/SIP. Show automatically when entering: Enabled, Enabled in Portrait Only, Disabled.
Fixes:
Exporting all marked items of a master list to a regular list doesn't work when using "mark all items".
Exiting from the master list without saving or anything says that the user tried to save the masterlist as a regular list.
Various errors with save dialogs not appearing and files not being saved.
Version 5.0:
NOTE: You will have to uninstall the previous version because of the name change! Otherwise you will have both applications installed!
New features:
Landscape for all supported resolutions. This is currently only within the main application screen, not the settings screen, save/open screens, etc.
New initial GUI upon start of application (enabled or disabled by a setting)- a "home" screen with more intuitive quick-launch buttons to access application features.
New option on long-press-hold over an item - copy item text to input field.
Language files included have been updated with the new entry above and need to be translated. When you do, please upload them to this thread.
A new setting to prompt a user to overwrite an existing saved cart rather than just doing it.
Application will be renamed to "Digicast Solutions' Shopping Cart" from "cRaCKwHoRe's Shopping Cart"
Fixes:
Intermittent application errors / crashes when deleting / duplicating items / opening and closing SIP.
Application not remembering last opened list.
Saving a list sometimes doesn't actually save it. This is fixed.
I am trying to prevent where a list of items scrolls back to the top if you are scrolled down and click an item.
Version 4.2:
Fixes:
Scrolling issue resolved.
Inability to add new categories/tabs resolved.
Resampled and resized images thanks to aiiro.
Version 4.1:
Fixes:
Opening a saved master list would cause an error. This has been fixed.
Installing the latest version of Shopping Cart will no longer overwrite your customized application settings with the default ones. They are now saved between versions.
Adjusted size of item container on different resolutions so that all items can be seen completely when you have a larger list.
Other:
Still trying to duplicate the "scrolling" issue affecting some users so that I can fix it...
Version 4.0:
New features:
Duplicate item (context item)
Rename item (context item)
Move item up/down (context item)
Check / uncheck item (context item)
Rename tab (context item)
Rename tab (menu item)
Add tab (menu item)
Delete all items (menu item)
Sort list (menu items)
Addition of master list functionality
Addition of Help screen
Addition of AppToDate support
Changed application installation location and registry location to "Shopping Cart" instead of "Shopping Cart v x.x" for compatibility with Sashimi and AppToDate
New setting for prompting user to clear cart
New setting to disable single-clicking an item to check/uncheck it. Disabling it requires a tap+hold and select from a context menu to check/uncheck an item.
Fixes:
Application now shifts/resizes when SIP is displayed so you can see everything (may add a setting for this, what do you guys think?)
Lots of new language items so language files will have to be edited
Tweaked some code and fixed a few memory leaks to make application faster overall
Saved lists are now automatically saved as Unicode files to preserve special characters.
Version 3.1:
New features:
Multiple resolution support - now currently 480x800, 480x640, 320x320, 240x400, 240x320. I only have a 480x800 device but on my emulators everything looks fine on the other resolutions. Let me know what you find!
Included updated/new language files posted to thread into cab file.
Fixes:
Saved cart being opened in reverse.
Version 3.0:
New features:
Multiple resolution support - currently 480x800, 320x320, 240x320. More coming...
Functionality to remove an entry altogether.
Tabbed cart lists to separate shopping carts for different stores.
Custom/enhanced save/open/browse dialogs. Default Windows Mobile ones are awful.
Context menus.
New configuration utility to change application settings, rather than modifying the registry.
Numerous new user-configurable settings and options via configuration utility.
Saving a list now retains the marked/unmarked status of a list when it is saved and re-imported.
New menu item(s) to check / uncheck all items in the cart list at once.
Fixes:
Slow scrolling issue.
Rearrange status and item list columns so longer items don't display over or behind the status checkbox.
Unicode character display issues with language files.
Labels no longer cut off in different languages.
Other:
Changed checked-item image to green checkmark to match "Manila" styling.
There are 15 language files now included, thanks to all the contributors for making the changes from the previous version. Old language files are not compatible with this release and will cause an issue when the application loads if you try to use one.
Had to temporarily remove color and strikethrough options for compatibility. Will try to add this back in for next release.
Version 2.1:
Fix startup issue for alternate language roms.
Remove scrollbars but still allow scrolling, to be more like other touch-sensitive scrolling applications.
Ability to customize the color of checked / unchecked items if MultiColorFonts is enabled.
Multiple language support.
Moved application settings into registry rather than .xml file.
Downloads
The files are below. Shopping Cart Companion needs to be extracted. It requires .NET 3.5 framework on your computer.
Also, here is a link to all the .NET 3.5 compact framework installation files.
You specifically need to have:
NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab
NETCFv35.Messages.XX.wm.cab (where XX indicates your phone's language)
Hi thanks, that's really cool. I will use it as a to do list (I had raised this question a while back). It's not quite as good as getting it as a front page tab, but it will suit me fine. Cheers!
Fantastic, thank you.
Just last week I was thinking that it would be better to have a program that I could easy mark off what I have got. Now it is here. Cool
Thanks
Looks good...thanks!
Looking mighty fine crack . Lol @ forgetting cab file in first post.

great work buddy.
Any one has ried on qvga?
Hey just tried this and on QVGA and it works but it seems that the spacing is slightly out compared to yours on the WVGA? Have a look
Apart from that all seems good!
great work, thanks!

A while back I wrote a very basic utility where I could write a shopping list and use it on my phone to go shopping with rather than taking a piece of paper and a pen with me. I got tired of forgetting stuff LOL! I use it every time I go to the store. I just thought I would share it with you all.
You can manually type in items to add to the shopping list or you can type up a list in Notepad or something similar. If you want to import a list in the application just save the file as a text file with each entry separated by a carriage return (new line / Enter) and copy it to your device. Then, in the application click File and Open and browse to where you copied the .txt file.
When you tap an item (click it) it toggles strikethrough text style, in effect marking it as found
Attached are a few screenies.
I'm open to suggestions as far as modification and such. It is designed for and works for the Touch HD as far as resolution is concerned. I don't know about other devices as I haven't tested it on any as I have no others.
Also, it requires .NET compact flash 3.5.

Anyway of getting it to work on TF3D home screen as a plugin? Like it could say "10 items on list" then you click it and it loads the program?

You mean the home screen being where it shows the clock, your missed calls, voicemails, calendar events, etc. right? If so, I wasn't aware things could be added to that. If they can I could look into it.
saw your announcement in Dutty's area, and got it. Work like a charm, man, thanks. I have been looking for a super simple one like this for long
Simple and useful...
Thanks!!

Difference between Paid and Free version is mainly in the poweruser options.
Paid version mainly adds lotsa poweruser options ;D
1) Remembers up to 9999 undo/redo operations
2) Control over the End-Of-Line characters (Apple, Unix and Windows tend to handle different End-Of-Line differently when doing plain text editing)
3) Allows user to specify buffer size
4) Allows custom fonts and background images
5) Allows user to customize 6 extra Themes in addition to the built-in 3 Themes.
6) Allows toggling of word wrap
7) Continuous Text to Speech.
8) Automatic backup of multiple files to user specified locations on SD card
Free version:
1) Remembers just 1 undo/redo operation, plus 1 reset buffer
2) Defaults to Android EOL handling
4) Fixed 10000 buffer size
5) Custom fonts and backgrounds disabled. You can still paint over the existing 3 themes with a solid color though, just adjust your Opacity bar in your themes dialog.
6) Customization of 3 built in Themes.
7) Always wordwrap
8) Text to Speech reads single paragraphs only.
9) Automatic backup of 1 file to user specified location on SD card
Version 1.71 features:
1) A File List, which works like a Bookshelf/Task_list/Recent_files hybrid management system. So basically, you can use it as a Task list, text bookreader, and text file editor as well.
2) Edit mode with unlimited file size, and tracking system to resume your reading/editing progress.
3) HTML mode! Supports non html files as well.
4) Text to Speech! I'm gonna use it to listening to ebooks when my eyes are tired
5) GoTo, Search, Replace, Cut, Copy, and Paste
6) Multiple Undo and Redo with undo history up to 9999(for the full version). Also comes with a sliding bar to easily rewind and fast forward the changes you made.
7) Themes! Customizable display; you can specify your own background images, custom fonts, background and font colors, line spacing, indents etc.
8) Landscape mode
9) EditText view with inertia scrolling, and yet no irritating problems of the view rectangle not being called to show your cursor, nor the rectangle jumping all over the place when you try to place your cursor far away.
10) Toggleable word wrap and autocapitalization (if supported by keyboard app)
11) Specify what End-Of-Line chars for saving your files with.
12) Tons of encoding options from ISO, windows 125_, Cyrillic, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, etc.
13) Share your files or just specific lines of selected text via email, bluetooth etc.
14) Automatic backup of files to user specified locations on SD card
15) HTML mode to easily switch between plain text and HTML view
If you like what you see, download now!
Oooops, double post
Latest version 1.3 is up!
Major changes are:
- Bookshelf/memo_list/recent_files hybrid system. So basically, you can use it as a memo list, bookreader, and text file editor as well.
- Fixed most of the pesky question marks by using windows-1252 as the default encoding.
- Added a lot of encoding options from ISO, windows 125_, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.
- Themes! Customizable themes, and you can specify your own background images (Paid version only).
- Share your files via email/bluetooth etc.
- Built in file browser
- No more popup nag box! :s
Search and replace only works within the displayed text for now.
New version 1.35!
New features:
1) Toggleable word wrap
2) Specify which type of End-Of-Line chars to use when saving files, '\r', '\n', or '\r'+'\n'
3) Improved Find/Replace and GoTo function. Background no longer dims.
4) Stability fixes, some quite important ones. Make sure you update if you haven't yet!
That looks really nice for first program!
Im sure people will use this
Btw, how did you do this?

With Eclipse IDE and Java, picking it up as I went along . Crux of the whole app is the proper loading and saving of file chunks, customizing the EditText behavior, and its backup system.
But actually not many people are downloading it
New version 1.40!
NTW now talks! Comes with ability to adjust pitch, speech rate, and supported languages.
But be warned, I think Android's Text to Speech is a bit buggy, so the voice doesn't really respond consistently to my controls for pitch and speech rate.
Edit: I found out it does respond consistently, but I have to be patient and wait for the next sentence to play naturally, instead of pressing stop and play for instant replay
v1.41 is out. It only patches NTW crashing due to certain Text to Speech settings. Download if you encounter this crashing.

edit: oh i have found it. the market search system s*cks .typing the app name and not find in the start but middle of the list
It does already support many of the encodings you listed, including all 5 of the UTF encodings, most Windows 125*, ISO8859-*, EUC-JP, EUC-KR, Big5, Shift-JIS, variants of GBK, etc etc
However, it doesn't really do auto detection... Only autodetects UTF encodings provided that your file specifies the BOM bytes for it. For files without BOM or with BOM for the other encodings, you have to manually select its encoding from the list in Tools-->Themes-->Encoding

Hmmm, this list of encodings look familar, are you the developer for Jota text editor?
http://android-apps.com/applications/tools/jota-text-editor/
I just found out that NTW crashes on startup on the Galaxy Ses owned by 2 of my mom's friends. They are typical users who experience lots of lag on their Galaxy S because they never tweak, optimize, root, upgrade to 2.2, or even use an external sdcard. Nevertheless, I am quite bemused why NTW crashes so consistently on their Galaxy S but not mine, considering that NTW does not require much system resources, nor the external sdcard to run.
I would be very grateful if any Galaxy S users would feedback to me if NTW regularly crash on their phones as well.
Ok, I think I've solved the crashing problem some of you may be experiencing. Hopefully anyway......
v1.42
- Patches NTW crashing due to your phone's Text to Speech settings or lack of TTS.
- More encodings: ISO-2022 for JP, KR & CN. KOI-8R for russian.
Heheheheh!!! Always wanted to implement multiple undo/redo, but only recently figured out how to do so efficiently
v1.45
- Multiple undo/redo! Undo History bar allows easy rewinding or fast forwarding of your changes, maxed at 9999 steps.
"Reset chunk" replaces the original Undo/Redo menu option.
Clicking of "Reset chunk" is recorded in Undo history.
Note: Free version has Undo history of only 1 in addition to "Reset chunk".
- Improved File Browser
- Streamlined File List interface.
Long press to view the preview, file properties, "Forget" and "Share" options.
NTW v1.47 is out!
Basically, this update makes the search, goTo, and undo/redo operations much easier than before. It also makes much better use of the space at the top which was previously just showing the filename and current %.
- Implemented fast scroll thumbs for browser and NTW shelf .
- Icon toolbar for convenient undo/redo, goTo, search, load next/prev chunk. Long click of undo/redo buttons pop up the undo history bar. Click the % display to shwo the goTo dialog.
- Improved goTo function.
NTW v1.48 is out!
- Fast scroll thumb for the main text box! (Built from scratch, whew! The behavior of ListView's fast scroll thumb was really tough to emulate properly )
- Progress bar above icon bar to show you where is your currently loaded chunk.
- Search backwards in addition to searching forwards. Plus some tweaks to search behavior
v1.49 is out!
This is mostly tweaking the behavior, performance and efficiency of undo/redo, search and replace, and the cursor.
- Fixed search backwards so that it works for single char searches too.
- Tweaks to UI of file browser and File List when adding/forgetting files
- Changed Replace operation so it is more compatible with undo/redo
- Fixed the auto shifting of cursor interfering with delete by holding down delete key
- Minor cursor tweaks and speed enhancement to File List
V1.51 is out!
New features:
- Incredibly cool Viking android as fast scroll icon!
- Even more incredibly cool menu icons!
- Delete command now available in file browser. This should be useful if you sometimes find yourself itching to do some file clean up from within NTW itself.
- Adjustments to left and right indent seekbar range and auto fadeout time of fast scroll icon.
- Self-fading pop up dialog boxes for messages like successful save, successful overwrite, or other error messages. I made the fadeout time for non-error related messages quite fast, but if you still find them irritating, let me know and I'll program in a check box to toggle their existence.
V1.52 is out!
Changes:
- File List now displays the file name only.
- Added shortcut to change "Encoding". Long press the main editing window to bring up the context menu, then select "Encoding Options".
- Ratings button, and my blog address added into Help
- Text cursor will no longer move along with the scrolling page.
- Tablet users should (hopefully) be able to find NTW in the Market now.
- NTW now supports only Android v 2.2 or higher. I think NTW was crashing for for v2.1.
I'm thinking I should probably move on to something else for now. Have an idea for an interesting variation of a file explorer....
I'll get back to NTW as and when I have time, maybe improve the search and replace or the GoTo % accuracy etc.

MIUI for Beginners

Already flashed MIUI ROM? OK, pick up your phone now, let’s start our happy journey of MIUI ROM.
The first step: selecting apps
Various apps will greatly enrich your cell phone, so firstly let’s select the apps to your taste. Use the Android Market and download what you would like. If you are using a backup app and restoring apps from a previous ROM, only restore the apps and not the data. Otherwise that will create a lot of force close issues.
Tip: How to copy files from the computer to the phone? First connect your phone to your computer via data cable, pull down the notification panel from the top of the phone, click “USB connected”, and then click "Turn on USB storage”.
After copying, do not forget to select the option of “Turn off USB storage”, otherwise "File Manager” in the phone will not be able to find the sd card, as it is being occupied by the computer.
Now I have a lot of apps, how to put them in order?
All apps successfully installed are listed on the desktop, however, they may not be in the order you want, how to put them in order?
Long press an app icon and then you may move it freely. When it is moved to the screen border, the screen will automatically switch to the next screen.
How to add a screen? Use two fingers to pinch on the desktop to enter screen thumbnail mode. Then you may add or delete screens.
How to delete an app? Long press the app icon you want to delete, drag it on top of the trash box and click OK to delete it.
The second step: let's make your phone different.
A phone without style is nothing remarkable, so let’s make your phone different!
Changing wallpaper: Click Menu button on the desktop, select “Change Wallpaper” to replace the wallpaper. In addition to the existing wallpaper in the phone, thousands of pieces of wallpaper are also available online.
Changing theme: Themes make great changes to your interface style. Click “Theme Manager” on the desktop to select the theme you like. Also, more online themes are available online.
Selecting ringtones and more: click “Settings” on the desktop to set call and notification ringtones. In “Personalization” under “Personal” tab, you may find more options.
The third step: it’s time for some advanced techniques!
Well, you are no longer a beginner now, so let’s learn some advanced techniques.
Adding widgets on the desktop: press the Menu button on the desktop, select "Edit Mode", and then click the icon on the upper right corner to access the interface of “Add Widgets”. Choose your favorite widget on the top, and then drag it to the screen below.
Using folders to manage desktop apps: in the interface of “Add Widgets”, drag [Folder] to the desktop. You may drag multiple apps into folders to classify them. After opening the folder, you may click the edit icon in the upper left corner to rename the folder.
Using toggles panel to improve efficiency: drag the notification panel down from the top, click "Toggles" to go to the toggles panel (It goes to the toggles panel in default of notice.) On the panel are listed the most commonly used toggles, you may click to quickly enable or disable a toggle. Long press on the icon will launch the settings for that icon.

Importing contacts or binding accounts: you may use some apps to import a batch of contacts, or bind Google account directly in "Settings"> "Personal"> "Accounts & Sync Settings" to sync contacts at any time.
How to print screens? Press "Menu" key and "Volume Down" key at the same time to print a screen. The printed image is saved in the directory of MIUI in the SD card.
How to copy files from the computer without using the data cable? In case of a Wi-Fi connection, enter “File Manager” on the desktop, select the tab of "Remote Administration" to start the service, and then you will get an address. Enter the given address on the computer, then you may copy files without using a data cable!

I think I might leave cyanogen for this lol
*edit* so tried this out for a couple of hours
The ui is beautiful and the rom overall is smooth, but got a lot of fc from the theme chooser, nofication setting and when making phone calls.

You should. Like I've said before, after trying many many ROM's, I've come to the conclusion that MIUI is EVERYTHING that I want in my phone and there will be no looking back to any other ROM's out there.
OMG OMG OMG official miui..... not a port....
Does the official rom still have the theme engine problem? I didnt see it in the changelog, and it was the only thing keeping me from using the miui ports.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Miui Rocks....it was the first Rom that truly set itself apart from CM roms and the like. It was my dd for a while but updates started coming out that required full rlashing, it became pointless. It seems that they are a lot more stable now....might come bqck and check them out again.
OP incredible job on the detail of your posts. One car certainly tell that you are not just theming and calling it a new tommy....cheers!

does MIUI have a good calendar/agenda app? I can't find one that beats Sense or Go Launcher EX at the moment.
Agenda Widget Plus and Pure Grid Calendar aren't as smooth or as well integrated =/
So beautiful and so tempting but it seems that it will never ever manage to utilize the functionality of the G2's Quick Keys =(

Same. Also does that when changing ringtones for notifications, though they do seem to apply anyway.

Should be fixed with today's (Friday) build.
With all due respect, what is the benefit of an 'official' MIUI ROM over any of the currently-maintained ports such as OsiMood? It does not seem like we are going to get G2-specific features like Quick Keys or Tab working.
Is the performance any better than these 'unofficial' ports?

This being official, I would assume that they are going to look at the g2 specific features a bit more?
Maybe I'm just being optimistic
Ima give the 3 roms a whirl, finally.
My phone number: Unknown
One issue I've noticed with this as well is that it can't read my phone number from the SIM card. That can cause issues with certain apps that require it (like TikL, for example).
Menu > Settings > System > About Phone > More information > Status
For me, that shows "My phone number: Unknown". And yes, I am sure my phone number is present on the SIM.

Requirements
Windows O.S.
Have the ADB drivers installed. Here is the link to download them. During installation, make sure to enable the "Add to System Path Environment" option. Here you have more information about ADB drivers. Since v10, if you don't have ADB drivers installed, they are automatically downloaded and installed as soon as you open Wear OS Tools. [new]
Connect the watch and the phone to the same Wi-Fi network.
Enable debugging over Wi-Fi on the watch. On the watch, go to Settings > system > About and tap "Build Number" several times until you see a message that says "you are now a developer". Then go to Settings > developer options and enable "ADB debugging" and "Debugging over Wi-Fi".
If you want to connect the watch to the phone via Bluetooth or Cable USB, follow the steps detailed on the tool.
Considerations
The tool is available in English (EN) and Spanish (ES)..
Tested on TWP3 and TWP5, please give feedback on other watches.
To find out the IP address of the watch, just go to "Debugging over Wi-Fi" in Settings > developer options. Under that option, you will see the IP. You can also see it in Settings > Connectivity > Wi-Fi > "Your Wi-Fi network".
You can connect the watch by USB cable, by bluetooth or by Wi-Fi network.
Wear OS watches are a bit unstable to stay connected to the Wi-Fi network especially if it is connected by Bluetooth with the phone, to make sure it connects smoothly when using the tool enable the "Enable Wi-Fi automatically when charging" option in Settings > developer options, and plug the watch to the charger. Another trick is to momentarily deactivate Bluetooth in the watch, the Wi-Fi network will be activated in a few seconds.
Since v10 you can use the tool in multitasking mode, i.e. you can for example backup watch apps while you are applying custom configurations. [new]
When you have finished, turn off "ADB debugging" on the watch, otherwise it will drain your watch battery...
Where to download?
Wear OS Tool v10
Method
Download and unzip in a folder the file from the "Where to download" section.
Make sure you meet all the points in the "requirements" section.
Locate the IP address of the watch as explained in the "considerations" section.
Run Wear OS Tools and enter the IP address.
If your watch is Wear OS 2 enter 5555 or nothing in the port number, and skip to step 7.
If your watch is Wear OS 3, enter the port number, which will be different from 5555
.
Select "Pair new device" or "Wireless debugging" (This step is only performed the first time) and enter the IP, port and pairing code, then re-enter the IP and port number as in the previous step
.
A notification will probably appear on the watch asking "Allow debugging?", select "Always allow from this computer".
In the tool, choose a function to run and follow the instructions on the screen.

Clarification on the new pairing procedure in Pixel Watch.
In the update in March 2023 for Pixel Watch, Google has implemented the new adb pairing procedure that had already been for some time on Android 11 and higher phones. It should be remembered that Wear OS 3 is based on Android 11, that is, watches like Pixel Watch, Galaxy Watch 5 or Fossil Gen 6. For now, this procedure is only implemented on Pixel Watch, but probably in the coming months it will be implemented on the other Wear OS 3 watches.
The process is that you must first pair the watch with a device such as a PC or smartphone, entering a random pairing code and a random port number (only the first time you pair to the device) and then the connection is made through the IP address as it was done so far, but with the difference that the port number is random (it is not 5555 as before) and you will have to consult it on the watch every time you connect the watch in developer mode.
Wear OS 2 watches, and for now Wear OS 3 watches (except Pixel Watch) connect the watch as usual and with fixed port number, i.e. 5555.
What custom settings and optimizations are offered?
Apply Custom Settings on the watch from the PC (option 8) :
Hide/Display developer options menu.
Enable/Disable GPS location.
Adjust screen timeout beyond limits.
Enable/Disable ambient display.
Enable/Disable theater mode.
Enable/Disable auto brightness.
Adjust brightness manually.
Apply optimizations (option 8):
Double the speed of animations and transitions.
Optimizations to improve performance and reduce battery consumption.
Enable/disable adaptive battery management.
Enable/disable the processing speed management system.
Enable/disable useless configuration items in Galaxy Wtach 4/5.
Manage Vibration (option 4):
Enables/disables vibration when receiving calls.
Enable/disable vibration when receiving notifications.
Enable/disable vibration when touching the watch screen.
Enable/disable vibration for a specific application.
Delete cache memory (option 8).Optimize performance (option 8) .Reduce battery drain with the dexopt optimization method (option 8) .
To-Do
Force pairing with Wear OS 3 watches
Improve optimization tool with more optimization tasks (any suggestions from this thread for Samsung Galaxy devices or this thread for Pixel devices?).
Porting code to Linux and Mac via Java or Python.
I share this tool for free, to code the tool as it is now having taken me quite some time, I just ask for some feedback for the one who download it and try it.
If you are going to use it, please comment what you think or what bugs you see or what new features you suggest. Any opinion is interesting.

Thanks, looks interesting! I don't have my Pixel Watch yet, but what does "Optimize the Watch" do? That sounds a bit vague.

The tool is compatible with any Wear OS watch.
It optimizes the watch in 11 steps, which you can skip each of them or apply. The optimizations perform tasks that improve the transition speed of animations, disables useless configuration items, improves audio quality, can disable the touch sound if you have it, improves the speed of opening apps, removes cache, optimizes battery...
I tried everything out and was able to get the ringtone to change, but the notifications and alarm sounds don't change. The alarm seems to always be the same sound, but I have noticed at least two different sounds for varying notifications. Not sure if that will influence how well this application works for the Pixel Watch, but I wanted to at least mention it. Thank you for all you hard work to help the community!
Exactly what I needed! Thanks a lot!

Try pushing an audio file to the watch and set it again?
Anyway, this worked great for me, the battery life was so-so at first but after a day or so it's noticeably better and snappier. Thanks for your contribution!

You were able to get notification sounds to change on the Pixel Watch? Huh. I guess I'll have to try it again.
I've noticed this watch seems to have a sound for the calendar, a sound for any message app, and a sound for any other general notification – when you got the sound to change, did all of those notifications change, or just the general one?
In any case, though, thank you for the input! I'll try it again tonight and comment if it seems to work.
Oh, I personally haven't done that yet, but it had occurred to me that it could work for you.
I'll give it a shot and see if it does.
Hey, is it possible to change the APN settings somehow?
Does adb give you the ability to edit these settings?
If you mean to use it on a network other than T-Mobile, it doesn't seem it can be done yet. At least not for Mint Mobile, anyway. As far as adb goes, I don't know of any, sorry.
Thank you very much - great work. Im using it to push watchfaces to the pixel watch i´ve made with Galaxy Face Studio and it works great.
First i have had some trouble with Debugging over Wlan - thats a Pixel Watch problem i think.
But i found a good solution:
- setting up my old second mobile phone as Hotspot (there is no need for sim or internet connection)
-connecting my laptop to the phone-hotspot
-deleting the old wlan on the watch, switching BT off and connect to the phone hotspot
-enabling ADB debugging and debugging over Wlan
thats how i got a very save and good connection for the ADB
it doesnt connect with the pixel watch. It does work with the galaxy watch 5 though
edit: working now. Changing DPI is SO helpful. Its always way too high/big on these watches.
is it possible to export the camera app from the galaxy watch 5 and install it on the pixel watch? I would like to use the remote camera shutter app with my fold 4

Try it, the watch will not break, at most the app will not work on Pixel Watch and already, however, I doubt it will work, it is an app specific to the Samsung universe. Tell here your experience.

You mean like an "always on" option? Settings > Display > second-to-last option, Always-on screen.
You could also set the time-out to 30 seconds and the "return to watch face" option to a higher wait time, if that's also something you wanted.
No. The aod turns off sometimes randomly.
please how to pair watch with phone without wiping watch? dont know what to write :
