From a G3 to a G4 : restore my apps - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I've pre-Ordered my G4 on Amazon, and next week, it will be mine replacing my G3.
As the G4 if not rootable yet (so no titanium), how to easily put all my apps and their data on my new device?
Thanks for your answers

LG Backup Tool, either on the phone or with the LG Tool Kit from their website.
No root needed on either devices.

Use the LG backup tool, then copy the folder onto a PC desktop. When you get the new phone, copy that folder onto the new LG, then do a restore.

I can do that on my sdcard, without a computer? Nova launcher will be restored with icons at their right places?

You can backup Nova within Nova settings. It creates a file that you can then copy to your SD card, and restore from your new phone.

If your old phone also has lollipop you can do a tap and restore. It's an option when you first get your phone and start setting it up.

I have lollipop on my "old" g3.
So if I "tap and restore", all my apps with their settings will be restored on the g4?

No. It just redownloads all the apps from the other device. You will still have to setup most of them. Except some google apps that save the settings online and possible a few others. But mostly you will have to re do settings. I don't think there is a non root way like titanium backup for restoring data. I will be having this same issue soon.

Use backup&reset under general settingsnon your G3 and launch the LG backup app on your G4. It uses wifi direct to transfer everything. I can say that more than 90% of your apps settings will be copied. I did not need to sign in on instagram, and even all the settings on my outlook are copied. My homescreen and app drawer customization are there as well. Pretty neat I must say

Have i to insert my sd card in the g4 before to restore?
Envoyé de mon LG-D855 en utilisant Tapatalk

I had to swap my device and did a backup to sd card . I have been "restoring" now for 45 min and I'm only at 6%, is this normal?

If you use the backup function to your sd card, it will allow you to insert in in the G4 and restore it from that backup. However, as much as I got it to give me all my accounts and passwords, apps, settings, etc, I still have a weird issue. My screen brightness will always start at 100% regardless of how I set it before reboot. As far as the issue with the touch screen that others experience, it's mild to me and probably something that can be calibrated. I'm pretty sure that the reason for the glitches are caused by trying to port the G3 to the G4. I know it's a pain, but starting from stock just using it as Google intends to reapply your apps is the better option and will not have such issues. I know we all get comfortable with the way we set up a device, but I guess that's the point of upgrading. I went through all three ways of trying to port over my G3. 1- tap and go. Only transferred simple accounts. 2- WiFi direct. Did more for apps, but left the new phone otherwise stock. Meaning no customized desktop or lock screen and such. 3- backup and restore from sd card. Worked the best, but still seems to throw the G4 off balance in some ways. Got a mirror image of my G3, but other things are glitchy.
Example, the screen brightness on boot. Maybe even the long press on a key to select the -. Every time I have to hold that key for a good 10 sec! If not more.
So, at this point, I'm ready to start from scratch just to see what the differences are. I use punctuation as a person should. So therefore I don't want to hold a key for more than a second like on my G3.
I hope this helps the group, but I could use some feedback over the issues I'm experiencing. Ty in advance.

Clean start won't solve the terrible brightness issue. It will always start at 100%, it's utterly annoying.
Luckily I could install Lux as I'm rooted so that issue is gone for good :good:

Root? Already? How? Yes for G3, but no info on root for G4 as far as I've found. I just gave my info on how it played out on a restore to G4 from G3. Did I miss something? I'm not a developer or a coder, but I'm a good example of why those ppl exist. I'm not scared to get my hands dirty. Like a car. I do work on that just the same. I may not know everything, but I know how to play the field to score for said action. So... Root for G4? Pls share...

Galaxy nexus gone slow

Hi. My phone (on Stock unrooted 4.1.2, didn't upgrade to 4.2.2 for no reason) has recently become very, very slow. I guess the reason for that is that I recently copied an MKV movie to it. Ever since I did that, it has been dead slow. Even though I have deleted it now, the sluggishness still persists. There's nothing else that I did (ever since this problem started), and please note, my phone was blazing fast before this, so I don't expect suggestions to flash a new ROM or kernel (because I'm a noob when it comes to flashing ROMs and stuff, and I will have so many more problems doing so). I think my phone can go back to the state on stock ROM and kernel.
Another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988233) mentions the same problem, I've found out that I have the exact same problem. My phone wasn't sluggish before I copied the movie. But now that I have removed it, the phone is stil slow and sluggish*
* what does it mean when i say "slow and sluggish":
- pressing the lock button doesn't turn the screen on, i have to do it a couple of times
- apps take longer to load
- widgets don't load (most of them)
- everything that you can imagine (swiping, sliding, etc) is slow.
Help, please. Thanks in advance.
Clear the cache of the video player application that you tried to play the video with. That may help. Go into settings>apps>downloaded>your video app>clear cache.
If it's the Gallery, go into all applications instead of downloaded.

It may be caused by installing too many RAM-hogging apps, if you're rooted you can try using Greenify from the play store and see if that helps.

I didn't copy the movie for playing, I copied it to transfer it somewhere else. And I've cleared cache of the video player MX Player just to be sure, and uninstalled it. Still no use.
One more thing. Apps are not responding, even stock apps. Once I open an app, it takes forever to load, and the message pops up: "<app> is not responding, would you like to stop it?" with the options "wait, stop, report".
All this has started ever since I copied that movie to my phone. Before that, it was blazing fast, no RAM hogging apps or anything.
How about you try to save all your pics/files you have on your phone, and do a factory reset? I know that's the highest you will go, but still worth a shot!

P.S. Just updated to 4.2.2 to find utter disappointment (and more lag).

This a known issue. The solution is to root the phone (NRT) and run LagFix (fstream). Android 4.3 has fstream already built in.

It's like a new tablet performance and function wise. All of Samsung's apps have been refreshed and the browser is especially impressive. Multi Window and Pen Window now support the same apps meaning you can have apps open side-by-side or floating and resizable. Without any modifications I now have 35 apps available in Multi Window. On 4.4 you can also install Hancom Office, e-Meeting, Remote PC, and Side sync bringing the N10.1-2014 up to "Pro" level. People are reporting better battery life and shorter charging times also. I did a dirty flash using a ROM from a different region so I somehow kept the lock screen widgets (which should be gone) and lost Daynote (which should be there). My battery was funky at first; not charging overnight and draining way too quickly. The former fixed itself and the latter was fixed when I deleted my Exchange accounts, cleared app data, and rebuilt them. I think my battery life is better now; it's certainly no worse. I'm going to do a recovery and rebuild my N10.1-2014 (it takes about six hours ) once the 4.4 ROM for my region is out which should clear up any funkiness.
As for external SD, it is what it is. Apps can still use it (individually) for storage so you can keep big files there. Samsung's apps (My Files, Samsung Link, Gallery, Video, and Music) still have universal read/write access and can manipulate all external SD files. So with 4.4 there's some added manual administration and you have to come up with new ways of doing things but it's not the end of the world. And it's not going to change. So you have two choices - stay on 4.3 forever and miss out on a fantastic update or bite the bullet and root. After just four days using the update I can't imagine going back.

Yes, Samsung My Files will work with ext SD but it doesn't allow you to rename filename extensions so you can rename a .apk to like .zip so you can bluetooth it across and then rename it back to .apk

Apps restarting (sort of).

When I'm in settings and check running apps, they all start restarting for some reason. Now I'm not sure if they do this normally or not, but it would explain a bit of the slow down I experience when returning to the homescreen.
Does anyone know if this is just when I'm looking at running apps, or is it something specific to the LG G3, and if so can I stop it?
I am having the same thing happen on my phone as well. Curious as to why this is happening.
Would like to know the answer to this as well. Besides, using an alternative launcher (aviate) it often gets killed after I've been using Google now or browsing the net for some time
Envoyé de mon LG-D855 en utilisant Tapatalk
I've noticed this, and simply put it down to LG's management. I often use the full 2GB of Ram available too.
I've found the solution to the problem. It's actually the way the G3 manages the ram that is so aggressive that it kills most apps in the background. I've changed the OOM values and all is running well now.

Boost+ App

Since the HTC 10 comes with the Boost+ app preloaded, I'm curious to see whether you all are keeping it enabled or disabling this app. Do you find it make a beneficial impact?
I disabled all it's features except the 1080p gaming mode which is nice for battery life.

Is this Boost+ app something Verizon may have removed from the Verizon version of the phone? I don't seem to have it--at least not as an app I can find with that name.
Edit: It turns out it was not on the phone, but I found it in the Play Store, and was able to install it that way.
Disabled Smartboost because it closed my apps when I wanted to use them.
One feature of Boost is that it can lock an application by enforcing use of finger print scanner or pin code per application. So if you don't want someone to pick up your phone and open your Facebook, enable the function in Boost+
I'm not seeing any option to use fingerprints to lock/unlock apps with the Boost+ app, it only offers the option to use a pattern. Anyone else seeing this? Is this the only method Boost+ uses for locking/unlocking apps? If so, seems awfully dumb and disappointing that they won't let you use fingerprints instead.
EDIT: Never mind, figured it out. There was an update needed for the Boost+ app for this particular feature to be available. (Not sure why, though, the Play Store app didn't notify me there was an update for the Boost+ app since it came installed on my phone out of the box...)
For those of you that have been using the phone for a few days, have you found a difference (either positive or negative) with enabling the "Smart Boost" feature in the Boost+ app?

I've had it for 6 days now and nope, no difference at all on my side (in terms of battery life and performance) so I keep it off. Why bother killing background apps with 4GB of RAM ?
By Android design, smart boost is a bad app.
You don't need to clean ram on Android, this isn't Windows. It'll end up doing as reported above, closing good apps instead of bad ones.
Android memory management is designed to load Ram for better performance.
Only good features are cache cleaning and app lock.
Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
One thing that I don't understand.
The cache cleaning feature in the Boost+ app, is it the same as "wipe cache partition" in the recovery menu and is it really necessary to delete the cache ?
I thought that cache is good because with it apps open quicker.
Hey everyone,
My personal experience with this app is this:
For some reason my phone was little slow now, so I activated the the smart boost option and it started flying. Got fast(back to normal).
so basically.. the app it self is useful in terms of decluttering your phone and make it operate faster.. One thing it fails to mention is that clearing cache and memory means resetting all the apps to default. which means constant request to allow or deny apps access to contacts, location etc.

Just an update, the App seems to work fine, the reset of app permission settings is due to an encrypted SD Card not formatted after a wipe.
I formatted the SD Card, copy existing content back into the card and now resets do not reset app permission.
I then reinstalled Boost+ App and it seems to work fine without resetting app permission.

Issues with RR 3/19/17

Using this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/development/rom-resurrection-remix-m-t3399960
I followed the instructions exactly, and yes I know how to flash a ROM. I used to have a Nexus 6.
On the latest build there are a few issues:
1. Cannot login to Snapchat (says unavailable, after checking device status)
2. The OTA update menu crashes
3. Cannot remove startup pin, even after removing screen lock. I tried security settings, but the replace encryption password menu also crashes
Other than these it's pretty solid, and good battery.
(only posting here because it wouldn't let me reply to his thread)
1. Snapchat wont let login if your rooted at all
2. I never used ota so dont know
3. Thats weird
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Actually I was able to fix all of these by using the official builds: https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...pment/rom-kernel-resurrectionremix-n-t3524715
EDIT: All except Snapchat, which I fixed by unrooting, logging in, and re-rooting. It only seems to check for root when you log in, so once you're in its good. However if you log out you have to go back through these steps.

I know a ton of people use titanium backup, but I honestly just can't even get past the design of the app. I hated holo when it came out, and hate it even more now that material is here. But it honestly is no real issue to me to log back in that way, 5 minutes tops.
