You don't even need root...just MSL http://www.droidviews.com/enable-wifi-tethering-on-sprint-galaxy-s6-s6-edge-and-note-4-on-lollipop/ (non XDA link)
---------- Post added at 10:28 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:23 AM ----------
I used the non rooted method. Called and got my MSL, made the changes and all is good. Being as you're already rooted you can use an app to obtain MSL. Good luck!

Thanks buddy much appreciated

I used ping pong root (no pc needed) and the rooted method with galaxy tool box......and now it works......awesome

Glad you got it working! That ping pong method is awesome, rooted last weekend. Still have stock recovery and have been using Flashfire by Chainfire for flashing needs, although I still haven't flashed a ROM because it looks like they all come with a kernel, which will trip KNOX...I think, could be wrong on that though.

[Q] ExynosAbuse APK v1.40 for first root before T889UVALL4 & first things to do?

So I had downloaded ExynosAbuse APK v1.40 to pop root cherry well before I even consider updating to T889UVALL4 & wanted to make sure there were no issues to be aware of before proceeding.
1) ExynosAbuse APK v1.40 for rooting leaves it in unmodified status & is totally reversible-really no risk at all?
2) Recommended root method after update* to T889UVALL4 ?
Honestly with all the customization in GO Launcher & the respectable Note2 battery life I'm no longer as interested in ROMs but it's good to know I could if I need even longer battery life etc. I don't like artificial limitations so I'm still curious about rooting, what would you recommend to first do after rooting (Wi-Fi router, Titanium Backup, Avast advanced anti-theft options etc)?
I don't see why I can't use Wi-Fi router functionality on rare occasion with my data allotment & noticed T-Mobile blocked this when trying FoxFi so how difficult is this to set up following root on SGH-T889 ?
Recommendations for Wi-Fi router ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether ? ), Titanium Backup, Avast root anti-theft options etc?
- Thnx

If you've rooted and not updated yet I found the root saving feature in SuperSU Pro saved my root across the OTA update. I belive I've read from others that OTA rootkeeper also worked for them.

I'm trying to find out the same thing while keeping the phone status as normal. But from what i have been able to figure is that the only way to do this is by rooting using Mobile Odin. So really you are re- rooting the phone. It seems that you cannot maintain root if you used the exploit abuse because the update is what fixes the problem that enabled you to root by means of this method. Please correct me if I am wrong because I have been holding off from updating until I am sure of what I can do. as you can probably tell I don't want to go through the root process again and chance messing up anything that is already working flawlessly
Edit: I should clarify I am talking about updating via this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975560 using the info from around post 205 and on
Re: [Q] ExynosAbuse APK v1.40 for first root before T889UVALL4 & first things to do?
Just use ota rootkeeper and do the ota. The exploit is simply the vector which got root installed the first time. Rootkeeper is the easiest way to reestablish root after ota.
Even if there is an issue, being root back is ridiculously easy on this device.

We definitely would not be able to use the ExynosAbuse APK v1.40 after the T889UVALL4 update as it patches the exploit the apk uses but posters seem to be indicating that if done before then root could possibly be kept via https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper , anyone confirm scenario or suggest next best alternative? - Thnx

You da man kozmo21..
So step1: Download ExynosAbuse APK v1.40 & run if haven't already.
Step2: Download-run https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper
Step 3: Install OTA T889UVALL4
Step 4: Run https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper again to restore root backup?

Yep, that's it. As long as you use rootkeeper to make a backup of root, you're good. I did another reboot after restoring root, not sure it was necessary, but figured it couldn't hurt.
Don't think it works if you try to use kies to update, has to be a OTA download. I just got my OTA notification about an hour ago, so just wait if you haven't got it yet.

I havent updated either and want to root before updating. Also not sure if I'm going to keep the phone so for the sake of returning, will rooting via apk change my Device Status to Modified? Someone mentioned theirs didnt change but need more confirmation. TIA.

Reportedly the device status will be normal not modified, I'll further confirm when I do it. Why are you thinking about returning the handset & how do you like the ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T (how limited does it feel compared to full pc-can you install Ubuntu or WIn8 on it)?

Thanks you as well. The reason I'm thinking of returning it is the size. I was aware it's not a one handed device but playing with it at the store it felt fine till I got around to really using it now that I have it. I feel like I'm fighting to hold on to it even when I have to pick it up off a table. But really love the speed of it compared to my s3.
Asus tf700t is another story. No way you can deal with it stock. You have to run custom rom and perhaps do the data2sd mod to eliminate some of the IO issue. If smoothness is what you're looking for, its not there yet. Transition in opening apps is choppy still. Swiping between home screens and app drawer not so much. IO issue still exist at time even with the data2sd mod. The only thing making me hold on to it is the keyboard dock. Cant live without the dock and its features. But really I just use it now as a replacement laptop so I'm ok with it. There's a Ubuntu beta for the tf700t but not really interested and windows 8 is probably impossible on it but Id rather sell it and get a win 8 rather than rely on a port but win8 is so limited right now that I dont wanna bother with it. But If you dont need the dock go for the Nexus 10 (I'm testing that as well). Otherwise wait for what asus comes up with or maybe the new sony z tablet. PM me if you have any other questions so we dont clog up the thread =).

If you need to unroot, just go to SuperSU > settings > Full unroot.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37026912&postcount=10 for order of steps
Device status should remain normal as long as you don't use the apk to patch the exploit (only use the apk to root then back up root with OTA rootkeeper then install OTA update which will patch the Exynos exploit that the apk used to root & rerun OTA rootkeeper to restore root).
I can not confirm that you can still unroot using the ExynosAbuse apk after OTA as I will not likely do it until tomorrow (hopefully I can get a reply to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113053 by then). Anyone confirm this?
Regarding size, I do consider it a one-handed device but I wear large size gloves, I do find the following helpful & may make it easier for you to handle:
I use this Seidio kickstand case & often also use the following: http://www.amazon.com/StickStand-wedgi-Smartphone-Kickstand-Navigation/dp/B004EVFO1G & at times http://www.amazon.com/CellHandle-Positive-Control-Your-Phone/dp/B0073G6OM2 on the Seidio kickstand case with Go Launcher. Good to read confirmation that full unroot is still an option in this scenario.
So is this procedure the only way to root this handset wirelessly ATM (it seems the easiest while also correcting the Exynos exploit)? - Thnx

Sprints Model . can't be rooted ¡?!¿!¿!!?!?

Has anyone tried to root the Sprint variant sm-t807p? Hhhmmm ... your link doesn't work. Care to share a new one. I'd love to get mine rooted. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
I got tired of waiting around for CF-Auto-Root to come out with a package so I made my own. It's all based off the CF-Auto-Root that I modified using another device that uses the same chip as the T807P.
I am in the process of testing it. So far I've come up with one bug which causes the DHCP wifi loop, but it was an easy fix. Once you have root access just change the permissions on the /system/etc/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-run-hooks file to "execute" by "user" "group" and "others" by using a root file explorer. It fixes the "obtaining ip address loop" for wifi.
All the standard legal stuff like - I am not responsible if you brick your device or if the root doesn't work.
Here is the link to the file I used with Odin to flash the CF-Auto-Root for my T807P.
Is there a custom recovery for this version yet. Also I take it the bootloader isn't locked if cf auto root worked?

You could try this app - http://pdanet.co/android/ (available in google play store, but may be blocked by Sprint and AT&T.)
Also works on non-rooted phones!
The only downside is you'll need to pay a one-off fee for the full version unlock key.
I have tried pdanet+ and foxfi before, it doesn't work on Sprint.

Not sure how Sprint detects tethering, but there are a lot of different tethering workarounds out there, maybe one will work for you. Get an Sqlite editor, and navigate to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/telephony.db and click on "carriers" and "carriers_cache", screenshot each, and post them here. I found a way to make it work on T-Mobile, might work for Sprint too.
I got SQlite Editor and found the file but it tells me "Error: no editing of system databases yet"

It just always worked for me, maybe try dirty flashing the ROM and wiping both caches and see if it helps.
Tethering
Hmm...do you have Android 5.0 or 5.1?? I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I recently updated via ota update and then rooted my phone.
Using LeeDroid here with no luck, devices can connect to my hotspot but no internet
need help

Not sure how Sprint detects tethering, but there are a lot of different tethering workarounds out there, maybe one will work for you. Get an Sqlite editor, and navigate to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/telephony.db and click on "carriers" and "carriers_cache", screenshot each, and post them here. I found a way to make it work on T-Mobile, might work for Sprint too.

I have rooted my device and installed TWRP and Sqlitemanager. Did you ever find a workaround for this? I would appreciate any help at all. I have Sprint HTC M9.

i too hAD that problem on sprint m9 unlocked, please help me
HTC one m9 rooted, S-off, Verizon, CM13.
Have an HTC one m9 himawl, that is rooted and also S-Off and has TWRP custom recovery. I'm running CM-13. Initially after I flashed custom recovery and CM-13 (after S-Off ing) my GPS did not work. So I reflashed back to stock, enabled GPS, then reflashed custom recovery and cm13 and my GPS worked. Alright so I had a similar issue with my screen casting, I followed the same method of flashing to stock, then enabling everything I could think, then reflashed to CM. That seemed to work. Now however I want to get WIFI hotspot to work but it will not. I can enable hotspot on CM13, people can connect to my hotspot, but no data is flowing through to the devices connected. Any help appreciated. Again this is HTC One M9 for Verizon that is S-Off and rooted. Thanks in advance.

You do realize that there are not any Sprint S6 devices listed on that page? Also, that method does not work for 5.1.1...

Tried to root with Ping Pong; nervous to try this
Hi,
II was hoping you could help me. I am kind of a nooby. I have rooted several of my phones over the years, but I don't ever flash "custom recovery" or ROMs. I just root so I can refuse the OTA updates and get free hotspot. I've been searching the threads for help, but I don't understand some of the technical jargon that is used on these sites.
I just got the Sprint Galaxy S6. I have followed the directions for rooting with Ping Pong. I have tried both 5.1 and 6. When I use 5.1, I get a message that says SuperUser not installed? Did you install SuperUser before root? When I try to open SuperUser, I get a message that says "SuperUser binary not installed. If you recently upgraded to 5.0 root manually. I have re-installed like some of the posts suggest, but get the same result.
If I use Ping Pong 6, it tells me my device is not supported. ????
My ROM is G920PVU1AOCF
Android Version 5.0.2
I have not installed 5.1, but it has downloaded on my phone. I keep getting a message telling me to install it. Can you please help and advise me? I;m nervous to try your method, because the ping pong method didn't work. Where do I find the samsung drivers to install? Will your method trip Knox? Thanks in advance.

If hotspot is the only reason you root, you don't need root to have the free hotspot man, there is a thread that gives accurate instructions, if you have your MSL number (easy to get via Sprint chat) and follow the instructions 100% it works, and yes it works on 5.1.1, I was using it a little bit ago at the airport

Ping Pong panics the kernel so u have to put ur phone in Airplane mode after you've hit download. I forgot to ask, is your kernel build before or after May 15? If after u won't be able to use Ping Pong!

I sent a PM to the OP.
Honestly the OP is probably just trying to help, but with this specific model not being listed on CF Page he linked.. its misleading.
Someone could flash the wrong variant. Hopefully he sees this and edits his post.
There isn't a specific listing for the Sprint S6 on there for CF Auto Root.
Don't download anything unless it says SM-G920P.
You don't need to use CF Auto Root for Sprint
Theres 2 ways to do it right now on 5.02
1. Tripping Knox - by installing TWRP recovery, then simply a zip of SU within twrp
2. Not tripping knox- Doing PingPong Method
If you are on 5.1 then i suggest monitoring this thread since its updated.

Just a side note for anyone... To hard power off the phone since you cant battery pull.. hold volume down and power for 10 seconds.

Under Kernel version it reads:
Sun Mar 29 20:59:58 KST 2015
So, it should work if I put my phone in airplane mode? After I download apk and before I install it?
I tired of this constant reminder to install update!
