[Q] Please help me get started - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings everyone
I'm new to samsung. I had a moto g. And there the drill was. Unlocking the boot loader, flashing custom recovery and then installing a rom. But browsing the threads here i am confused. Where should I start. I have a note 2 GT7100 (India) no carrier. With 4.4.2 installed. I wantbto install a 5.x.x custom rom. Please help. I beg

First root your phone with kingo android root then install odin on your pc and install samsung drivers if you need .
Then boot your phone in download mode. Do it by pressing simultaneously ‘volume down’ + ‘home’ + ‘power’ buttons. Release the buttons when you’re asked to press Volume Up, click it and enter download mode.
Go to ODIN folder on your PC and run the ODIN .exe file.
Now you can connect your smartphone to your PC. ODIN will say "ADDED". If ODIN doesn’t display the "added" text, then you will have to re-install the USB drivers for your smartphone.
Go to ODIN program window and click on ‘PDA’.And select the recovery you have downloaded.( https://dl.twrp.me/t03g/twrp-2.8.6.0-t03gub.img.tar.html (for 3g version) https://dl.twrp.me/t0lte/twrp-2.8.6.0-t0ltecan.img.tar.html for 4g version)).After you have installed your recovery go to your preffered rom thread and look for the steps you must to do in order to install the rom.For android l you need to reformat your partiotion(there are useful steps in cyanogenmodx thread)

Bricked Samsung Galaxy S3 With Bad Software

I accidentally bricked my Samsung Galaxy S3 with a bad software. Now, It won't turn on at all. I tried this so far by pressing volume + home+ power with no luck. Whatever that I do, I cannot get it to go into download mode. This is what I did that bricked my phone. I really feel so dumb for not seeing the "for windows os!" Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced.
Section 1: (For Windows OS)How to Odin stock pre rooted 4.1.1 JellyBean/Unlock bootloader/Flash a Custom recovery
Step 2: Power device off, hold the volume down/home/power keys until you see a yellow triangle, then press the volume up key to access "odin or download mode".
Step 3: Open odin and connect the oem usb cable to pc & device. There should be a "comport number" in upper left hand corner of odin indicating communication between the device & pc.
Step 4: Click on the PDA function of odin. Select the stock rom you downloaded in step 1, then select start. This operation should take less than 8 minutes before odin will say pass/reset and should reboot. If not manually reboot...
Step 5: Open up the SuperUser application from your app drawer and make sure its up to date!
Step 6: Download the EZ-Unlock app to your device from HERE.(Only use version 1.1 or 1.2 for now as the latest versions have issues!)
Step 7: Open the app and select unlock! Now your unlocked...yup its that easy!
Step 8: Download the EZ-recovery app to your device from HERE.
Step 9: Open app, select CWM recovery, tap the pulldown menu, choose CWM 6.0.1, select flash, then reboot recovery.
Step 10: Congrats you are now rooted, unlocked, and have a custom recovery installed!! If you want to flash a custom rom proceed to section 3 or 4.
It wasn't bad software, just the wrong software. Looking at those directions that is the root and recovery method for a Verizon GS3. Try to get it into download mode again (vol -, home, pwr) and see if you can flash the stock odin files.

Thank you, but that didn't do it cause it's fully bricked. I had to jtag it in order to bring it back to life!

[Q] Need help making sure

Hi, this is my first time rooting and installing a custom rom onto my phone and I just wanted make sure I didn't forget anything of do anything stupid...
Alright so I have a SG3, the Videotron Variant on 4.3 stock rom
I downloaded the drivers for my phone, am using the USB cable, and have installed Odin on my computer.
I followed this post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1771687
and I downloaded the "Videotron image"
my following steps would be to
"Extract the root66 tar file from the .7z file you downloaded.
Put phone into download mode [ with phone off, hold vol. down + home + power ], connect to computer and open Odin.
once in odin click the PDA field and select the root66 tar you downloaded.
Leave Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checked.
click start and
when done let phone reboot."
and third of all, i'd install ClockworkMod recovery then grab Rom Manager from the Play store and in the menu select to install ClockworkMod Recovery and then install a custom rom from there
Am I missing any steps? For example I was reading about the OTA update section and I didn't understand anything...
Thank you!

I have never used skipsoft but I know that you cannot downgrade the 4.3 bootloader.
Try this:
1) Download ODIN and extract the zip file from here.
2) Download this file and then extract it. The extracted file will have a tar.md5 extension.
3) Boot your phone in-to download mode by i) turn off phone ii) hold volume down + home then press power iii) on prompt press volume up.
4) Start Odin on your pc(windows) with admin rights, (right click and run as admin).
5) Now connect your phone to PC, on ODIN if you see a message that phone is connected.(ID:COM tab on left will turn blue)
6) Click PDA tab and browse the extracted file, it will take couple of minute to verify md5 and then once it's done
7) Auto reboot and F.Reset time options are checked by default, leave them as it is and make sure no other options are selected/checked on ODIN.
8) Click Start
8) Let ODIN do it's job, phone will reboot automatically.

[Q][SM-T800] What is the best way to Downgrade 5.0.2 back to KitKat?

Hi, Just like the title says, I have the 10.5 tab, I'm currently on the us ota for 5.0.2 rooted. I was wondering what the best and safest way to downgrade was? I'm having alot of problems with 5.0.2. I mean it runs smoothly and everything it's just alot of the games i play that worked great on kitkat no longer work on lollipop they just crash when i try to open them. Also there is no wanam xposed for 5.0.2 yet which is also a bummer. any advice or a steering in the right direction would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to try to do it without knowing what im getting into and make my nice little tablet a brick. thanks for your help.
Just flash the stock Kitkat 4.4.2 firmware
Sent from my SM-T805 using XDA Free mobile app
Don't fret. I am a total noob too. I got the following information from a different site, Unfortunately I cannot post the link as a noob. Once I have enough post count, I will add the link to the source (fairness to the author of the source).
How to flash Samsung Stock Rom using Odin
Home > Tutorials > Last update on February 1st, 2015
These are the instructions to flash Samsung Stock ROM (original firmware) using Odin on Windows Computer.
Requirements: Your Samsung device should have at-least 30-40 percent of phone batter to perform the flashing process.
Flash Samsung Stock Rom using Odin
Step 1: Download and install Samsung USB Driver on your computer. In case you have already installed the Samsung USB Driver on your computer then Skip this step.
Step 2: Download (Stock ROM compatible with your device) and extract it on your computer. After extracting you will be able to see these kind of files:
T800XXU1ANJ6_T800XAC1ANI1_HOME.tar.md5
Step 3: Now, Enable USB Debugging on your Samsung Galaxy Device. To enable USB Debugging: Open Settings > Developers Option > USB Debugging > Tick to enable.
(Developers Option is hidden for Android 4.2.2 or above, to show the developer option Go to Settings > About Phone > Built Number (Tap on it for 5-8 times).
Step 4: Power Off your Samsung Device.
Step 5: Now, you have to boot into Download mode. To boot into Download Mode: Press and Hold Volume Down Key, Home Key and Power Key. When phone vibrates Leave the Power Key but Keep holding the Volume Down Key and Home key. You will boot into the Download Mode.
Step 6: In the Download mode you will be able to see a Warning Yellow Triangle Sign. In this situation you have to press the Volume up key to continue.
Step 7: Download and extract Odin on your computer. Use Odin 1.85 (Successful in downgrading to KitKat from Lollipop)
Step 8: Now, Open Odin3 and connect your phone to the computer.
Step 9: Once you have connected the phone to the computer, Odin will automatically recognize the device and show “Added” message at the lower-left panel.
Step 10: Once your device is detected by Odin, click on the “PDA” (or AP) button and select the tar.md5 file that you have extracted in Step #2.
Step 11: Now, click on the “Start” button in Odin to begin the Flashing process.
Step 12: Once you see, the Green Pass Message then remove the USB cable from the device (during this process, your device will restart automatically).
Step 13: Your Samsung Device will now stuck at boot (boot loop). Now, You have to boot into Stock Recovery Mode, To Enable Stock Recovery mode: Press and Hold Volume UP key, Home Key, Power Key. When phone vibrates Leave the Power Key but Keep holding the Volume UP Key and Home key. You will boot into the Recovery Mode.
Step 14: In Recovery Mode, Wipe Data/factory reset.
Step 15: Once Cache Data is cleared, Select Restart Phone Now from the recovery menu.
Step 16: Now, your Samsung Device will restart without any issue with the Stock Rom you have flashed.
I ran into problems flashing the ROM twice and I went into a complete panic (could be Odin 3.10, or corrupted ROM). My region is XAC. Initially I tried XAR, and failed miserably. Eventually I downloaded the XAC ROM from a different source (SamMobile), also using Odin 1.85 instead of 3.10. Everything went smoothly (with the above stated boot loop). Should you get a Fail message in Odin, use the instructions from droidviews (do a web search on droidviews and "firmware-upgrade-encountered-an-issue-solution". Again, I will post the link once my post count is slightly higher.)
Step 3 is not required at all. Odin 3.10 should work fine.
As for factory reset, that shouldn't be required, that should be a last resort. Just wipe cache partition. I would simply install twrp for this.
It should then boot.

Please make one thing clear
Do we have to turn off "Auto reboot"
Or keep the "Auto reboot" option checked on?
Android 9.0
Hello, when it will be possible ? If never, why ?
I followed the exact process but everytime i tried to boot into TWRP recovery immediately after the flashing, the device still boots into stock recovery instead of TWRP
Please help me with this
Thank you
I figured out a way to root the Galaxy J7 duo
Actually i have tried lot of ways to root using TWRP flash and all.. but one day i accidentally bricked my device
So i downloaded the stock ROM to flash my device
And i downloaded the 8.0 android ROM
So this root method basically tested on android 8.0
So now i have android 8.0 stock ROM downloaded
Step 1 -
So make sure you also downloaded the ROM
And extract the ROM file (you must have got the "AP" "CP" "BL" "CSC" and "HOME CSC" file)
Then copy the "AP" file in your phone
Then install magisk manager in your phone
Open magisk, select install, select and patch a file from magisk
Then select "AP" file
And wait while magisk is patching the "AP" file
When flashing is done the patched file will be saved on storage, emulated, 0, download (file will be saved as "magisk_patched.tar")
Then simply copy the patched file in your computer
Step 2 -
Open odin in your Computer
In odin, select "magisk_patched.tar" in "AP" section
Select "BL" from the stock ROM folder in the odin's "BL" section
Select "CP" from the stock ROM folder in the odin's "CP" section
Select "HOME CSC" from the stock ROM folder in the odin's "HOME CSC" section
make sure you select all the official files from the stock ROM folder... just instead of the "AP" file, select the "magisk_patched.tar"
Then connect your phone via USB cable
Odin will detect and show "added" message
Start the flashing process
It will take few minutes
When its done your phone will boot up
But it will show something like "erasing" and "verification unsuccessful"
Just agree with that and erase the phone
(It will cause a data loss because everything will be deleted and your phone will reset, so i suggest to make a backup using samsung smart switch)
Then when your phone will reboot, just follow the steps to setup
Amd install magisk latest apk
Open magisk and boom!
You can already realize that magisk root is activated
Amd magisk will ask you to "setup environment"
Just agree and your phone will reboot withing 5 seconds
And done!
Your phone is now rooted
Install root checker and verify your root status
how to un-brick
Same thing here,
Tell me how you un-bricked your phone
I bricked my phone by installing wrong twrp file to sm-j720f android pie with odin
and now it shows only bootloader screen and I can't even go to recovery mode or home screen just showing " SAMSUNG GALAXY J7 DUO secured by Knox powerd by android" noting else
That is exactly what was happened in my phone
So what i did just downloaded the Stock ROM for J7 duo from the sam mobile website.
Then extract the ROM and you will get few files ("AP", "BL", "CP", "CSC", "HOME CSC")
Then boot your phone into download mode using this method
(Connect the phone to your PC using USB cable, then press and hold Power + volume down + home, then when the "powered by android" logo appears release only the power button... so your phone will boot into download mode, press volume up to continue)
Now, in odin you can see "added" message that means device is connected
Now select the ROM files respectively, BL, AP, CP, CSC
Then click start, and the process will start, will take few minutes
When done, your phone will boot normally
Yeah everything is right until...
[grand_theft;83142325]That is exactly what was happened in my phone

So what i did just downloaded the Stock ROM for J7 duo from the sam mobile website.
Then extract the ROM and you will get few files ("AP", "BL", "CP", "CSC", "HOME CSC") *********
Then boot your phone into download mode using this method
Fact that I cant even go to download mode I tried out many times
Just follow this step
(Connect your computer with your phone using USB cable, then press and hold Power + volume down + home, then when the phone vibrates and appears the samsung logo again just release only the power key, while holding the volume down and home key)
(Just release only the power key when the "powered by android" logo appears)
Thats how you can go to the download mode
No virtual change
Done it as u say,
But my mobile shows noting but just logo screen
*****SAMSUNG GALAXY J7 DUO secured by Knox powered by android*****
again and again
These is not first time, last I did the same mistake before and I went to Samsung service store they recovered it, I don't know how they did but it worked.
These time I want to (tring to) do it on my own bcoz I love playing with ROM's, root, etc.
Thanks for replys
I also did the same mistake by flashing wrong TWRP
But however i managed to enter into downlod mode following those steps
And flashed official ROM to unbrick the phone
You must go into download mode to flash the official ROM using odin
Thanks alot
Thanks man,
I'm able to enter download mode and I installed official ROM. Now in using it as normal but (1)Secure folder and Pay mini are not working.
(2)Do you have any idea on other ROMs that works on SM-J720F other than Samsung's one UI.
(3)can I install android 8 on it in ordered to root as you said it in previous post.
(4)from previous your post on oreo twrp explanation, is twrp works fine. What happens to twrp if I update phone to Q (from system updater)
I'm glad you made it!
Now,
1) Secure folder and pay mini won't work because the phone thinks you rooted your phone and maybe your binary is cracked (so forget using those)
2) I'm not sure about any ROMs which is stable with this model. But you can search the internet (I think pixel ROM is pretty popular)
3) I'm not sure if my process of rooting supports android 9.0 or not, because i personally tetsted it on 8.0, So you can download the oreo ROM from the internet and then follow all the steps i mentioned before
4) If you want to install TWRP, you can still install TWRP after rooting via the method i provided
(You can install TWRP using flashify on a rooted phone)
But if you want root access then you can simply root your phone first..
And whatever custom ROMs you want to install, install it using flashify
Because if you update software via official OTA, the root access and TWRP both will be gone
And if you root your phone, then however you won't be able to perform a official OTA update.
(First root your phone, then simply download your TWRP file and flash it with root permission within your phone)
Instated of Oreo AP file,

Ok I agree with you,
But what if I replace Oreo's AP file with android 10's AP file(which I installed recently on my phone), will it boot with root or not.
************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
I have not tested this method on any other android version, you can still try it on your own, there is nothing to lose, just make a backup before flashing. If you succeed then that's great
But i have personally tested this method only on android 8.0
(Before doing anything, just make a proper backup using samsung smart switch. So you can restore your important data)
Success
Replaced with android 10's AP file and flashed with Odin. Now my phone has rooted with Magisk manager.
Any suggestions to tweak android
