SlimPort Issues - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone tried to connect their G4 with Slimport? I contacted LG customer service to see if they endorse a specific brand and they sent me a google search for "SlimPort" (which was very helpful /S). I purchased this one from amazon and I can not get a clear picture for more than a few seconds, even though it shows support for the G4. If you go to the official Slimport site it leads you to this amazon link for the SP1004 which is "Currently unavailable".
I am trying to connect my G4 to my AppRadio2 car stereo. I was able to connect my Note3 just fine using MHL but finding the right MHL adapter was a pain as well.

You're not alone! I spent the weeks trying to get SlimPort to work on my G4. Bought three different dongles from amazon. These are all made in China but the first two were the cheap and nasty types. You will know the type. They are all basically the same inside and they usually rattle. One wouldn't charge the phone (Slimport works without a charger), and the picture flickered. The other charged OK but the sound was intermittent. Bite the bullet, as I had to, and buy the brand Slimport. It costs three times as much, also Chinese, but the quality is apparent. Two points to note:
Picture and sound are now perfect on different HD TV but flicker on HD monitor. The monitor is fine with Samsung S4 and HTC M8, different mhl dongles.
I therefore must assume that the standard G4, in standard setup, can only drive a TV.
If anyone knows different please drop me a line.
Ridiculous but I'm considering buying a 24 inch TV to use as monitor on my desk!

Where did you get your SlimPort?

Funny timing with the start of this thread. I stayed in a Hotel last night and was using my CableMatters Slimport adapter on my Nexus 7 (2013), had some issues with the wifi so I hooked up my G4 to see if it would work. The G4 worked beautifully with Slimport for Video, accept that audio didn't get redirected to the HDMI cable, only video.
This is the cable I have CableMatters Slimport 6ft Adapter

Or you can pay through the nose and pay the inflated price for the Official Slimport to HDMI adapter.
Then you'll get solid HD sound and video, although only on TV, as I found out.
Not on an HD monitor.

I got the Official Slimport to HDMI adapter from Amazon UK:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NG4LW3Q?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
Also, since you didn't get the subtle hint, it's part of ettiquette here on xda to press the Thanks button!
You are welcome.

I ended up getting a ScreenBeam Mini 2, it connects great and it is wireless!

Slimport now faultless

Thank you Kevin for telling us about ScreenBeam Mini2.
Does that require a router and a telephone line? If so then Slimport which doesn't need a router (or external power) is the only option.
With good 4G coverage here I gave up the land line a few years ago. The LG G4 now acts as the router (ditto HTC M8 & Samsung S4 before it) providing web access to smart TVs and Android tablet.
Without a router, the phone can't be projected to a TV using ChromeCast dongle (connected to the same TV), rendering my ChromeCast useless.
Update for readers here, after some initial bedding-in the original branded Slimport dongle has been working flawlessly.
It can drive a 65" TV or a 24" HD desk monitor. Avoid cheap copies, buy the original and you won't regret it.

I have the Kanex Slimport adaptor and it works flawlessly. Sound and images are perfect and the response time is nice and quick too.
I bought it from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kanex-Slimport-to-HDMI-Adapter-White/dp/B00E0EER2E
It isn't a cheap one, but it does work. Never had any problems with it. Used it with my Nexus 7 2013 and with the G4.
The only thing I do have a problem with is whether it works with 4K or not. I can't get it to work, but I guess that isn't a major issue for most atm.

Connect LG G4 to TV/display with new SlimPort NANO.CONSOLE
Greetings from SlimPort Support. The way to connect the LG G4 to a TV or display is with a SlimPort HDMI adapter or dock. There is a new product called the SlimPort NANO.CONSOLE that just launched on Indiegogo – it lets you connect your LG G4 to the big screen (at up to 4K Ultra HD 2160p, because the LG G4 supports 4K video-out), simultaneously charge your LG G4, and remotely control your LG G4 with the included Bluetooth Smart touchpad remote. It’s really useful and plug-and-play easy to set up and use. Please check it out on Indiegogo by searching on "NANO.CONSOLE".
Thank you!

Samsung EPL-3PHP HDTV Adapter

Just received EPL-3PHP HDMI adapter from Amazon UK (£23.00) and happy to confirm working with my GT-N8010 with latest UK JB 4.1.2
Is it possible to attach a BT trackball/keyboard without a dongle, or somehow use an other adapter I can attach (possible by a double adapter)
Once connected to my TV the only way to change any input is via the Note.
Thanks

Hi Purchased from Amazon UK (seller was Amazon)http://http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0051D3KKI/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 actual price £23.55 but now looks like Amazon have suspended that item until they review a complaint, suggest you keep an eye on that link.
Surprised No has been able to answer my question regarding BT trackball!!!
If its a BT track ball I would think it will hook up just fine, same way a BT mouse would.
Just to let you know if you are in the UK with a HMV store nearby you can get these for £10. Picked up a couple last week.

Hi which one do you have, how do you connect it to the tablet, I assume its just Bluetooth no dongle, thanks.:good:
Simple the original one:
http://www.amazon.de/PlayStation-Du...HY/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1362585611&sr=8-10
bought it when it was on amazon for 35€ incl. shipping!!! nice deal i thought. I do connect it with the app "sixaxxis" (bluetooth). Requires root though, but pretty nice app. Now i can play all the games of my childhood: zelda (oot, n64), tekken (psx) without the need to install the damn ugly consoles in my living room .. thats just awesome!!
After installing the app I noticed that you can emulate a mouse. That is very useful to me for streaming movies from my server, look something up on imdb and so on with the hdmi adapter...
any more questions? ?

Thanks, not rooted, do not want to go in that direction, so am I correct in assuming you can only connect bt directly to tablet when you root it, otherwise I need a dongle??
So no way of having it connect to bt when using the hdmi adapter, bummer.
Question: Is the HDMI output lag-free, do the homescreens run smooth and is the image quality okay?
I just sent back the wireless allshare adapter because the streamed image has 15FPS when not buffered, the quality is worse than i expected and it ends every multitasking capability of the Note.

Well, keep in mind the ASCD won't mess with the resolution or color depth of the image displayed on the LCD, so if you see video quality issues (bad scaling or graininess or such) it's likely due to what your TV does with the not-quite 720P resolution of the signal from the Note 10.1 (1280x720 isn't a native resolution of most monitors and likely scales it to 1366x768), so I'm betting that the picture via the HDMI hard-wired cable will look the same (on static images) as did the picture from the ASCD.

New 2013 model of HDTV Adapter?
I'm shopping around for an HDTV Adapter for my GT-N8010 at the moment, and I've noticed that several online shops are advertising a new 2013 model - EPL-NPHPBKG.
e.g. - www dot amazon dot com /Original-Samsung-Genuine-EPL-NPHPBKG-EPL-3PHPBEG/dp/B00B8NJ6E4
They claim that it is the next verson of EPL-3PHPBEG (the model that this thread is about). Does anyone know what the difference is? The only thing I can see that might be an improvement is "Simultaneously charge your Galaxy Note 10.1 while streaming". I've seen reports on other threads about their tablet not charging while plugged in to the HDTV adapter. Can you confirm if this functionality exists on your EPL-3PHP?

Ah. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166540
Hi,
I dont know the id of my hdtv adapter but as far as i own it since the early days of my previous tab 10.1 (p7500) I am pretty sure it's the "old" one.
I can confirm the adapter is definetly charging my n8000 while connected to my tv behind the docking station (universal samsung), streaming .mkv from my ubuntu desktop / server machine and being controlley by emulated mouse with my ps3 gamepad (via sixaxxis).
Sure you won't win a speed challange with that configuration but the main point is it is charging. I guess about ~ 2..3 % / 0,5..1,0 h (never did a measurement ) but still charging. Thats pretty nice because sometimes when I come home from university and the battery is nearly empty (sometimes 2 days of usage with a single charge) I plug my note into the docking station, let it charge to 3 or 4 %, turn it on and start streaming. When I end the day and shut down the tv the note is at about ~10% and ready to get charged the whole night.

Looks good!
Update, just purchased apple Magic Trackpad looks like it works on my Tablet, No Dongle just Pin number input for connecting, so in theory I will be able to use it to control Note 10.1 whilst connected via HDMI adapter to TV, will confirm when it arrives this week.
Just received my EPL-3PHPBEG from Expansys. It was not the most expensive, but dirt cheap either. It works. It says it is for the Tab 10. The price on this seems to vary wildly with the cheaper ones (19-25$) all seeming to be out of stock, except today went back to Amazon and the Zeeestmm version now seems to be in stock and going for 29.00$
It works for my purpose - Powerpoint and other document projection. It does need to be powered, and the tab needs to be rebooted at least for the projector to recognize it. So it's working fine on my Tab Note 10.1.
What chaps me about Samsung, it the myriad of numbers and letters, all a bit different, but all seeming to be the same item. I thought it was bad with the phones and tabs, but it is beyond annoying with accessories.

Thanks for the reminder. Probably the image will look not better than before. However, it was not a difficult decision why i sent the Allshare Cast Hub back to amazon. For 60€ it's just to much for what it would have been for me. Ending all MultiWindow possibilities is probably the worst part. Well, with the HDMI cable i won't be able to connect USB anymore .. so everything has pros and cons. For what it offers, the wireless adapter was just too expensive and i was really annoyed that it was never remarked on ANY website i read that it ends multitasking features of the Note 10.1.

connecting to tv

I was at best buy yesterday trying to get my lg optimus g pro connected to a tv. Then i found out my phone isnt mhl capatible? What? So i called lg. They said it connects wirelessly but you need a smart tv. No way. They have to be kidding me. There has to be someway to watch videos from my phone on my tv.
I believe it has a SlimPort instead of a MHL connector. SlimPort is also found on the LG Nexus 4 and Optimus G. The only place I know to get a SlimPort HDMI adapter is on amazon.com for $30.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009UZBLSG/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1371408486&sr=8-1&pi=SL75
This is correct
http://www.slashgear.com/slimport-hdmi-adapter-review-06272852/
Well ive read that u can buy a miracast dongle (ive foundem no cheaper than 50 but I havent looked in a few weeks) and plug it into the hdmi port and use miracast that way to wirelessly transmit picture and sound to a "dumb" tv. Dunno if it works for sure tho. Anyone tried?
Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I don't have this phone, but have a nexus 4. Miracast introduces delay and occasional artifacts (due to video compression to send the signal). It works alright for time insensitive things, like watchng videos. But for lag-free, uncompressed (less compressed?) video suitable for gaming with a wireless controller, you really need a wired HDMI dongle.
I have been using the Samsung BD-FM59C bluray player which includes Miracast compatible screen mirroring (along with bluray, Netflix, Amazon instant video, YouTube with remote feature, and other apps). It's on sale for the next few weeks at Costco for $95. Worth it over any miracast dongle.
Thanks
Calling LG now. Thanks for your help. I guess there are options. I told them I wanted to know the best way to do it. Sounds like the slimport is the way to go.
The dongle is a bluetooth thing. But they are both cheaper than buying a blue ray player or smart tv. lol.
I'll let you know.
Yep!!
Thanks guys. That was it.
analogix makes a slim port sp1002.
I called lg and they confirmed it. How stupid. Did they really think I was going to buy a new LG smart tv? I knew it had to be something. I'll remember to buy a blue ray play next time that has the correct stuff as well.
I just ordered it on Amazon for $29 free shipping. All of them on ebay were $50-$60.
Thanks again.

I have the slimport adapter and it works well besides the occasional stutter using the stock video player. Mx player plays perfectly though. The first time I tried to get it to connect I had to plug it into HDMI only until the tv recognized it then plugged the microusb power into the back.

From amazon.fr search "SlimPort-femelle-Adaptateur-Optimus-Infinity+hdmi+nexus+4"
I chose the first! for Euro 16,95
This I have already caught myself and it works perfectly, the price was good and the quality of the materials too! :good:
Tested the adapter and ..... works perfectly on my Nexus 4 and on the loving G Pad 8.3.
The immediate mirroring ok , do not activate anything, except to verify that the entry of the external monitor on, and set to HDMI. Video and audio are perfect and there is no lag, maximum fluidity and faithful reproduction of what is happening on the screen of the G Pad , I tried a video and I sailed a bit ' in WIFI sitting on the couch.
I do not play , but I am convinced that for some passionate playing on a giant screen could be a "must have"
For remote control , there are several options , including:
- Bluetooth keyboard and mouse ;
- App for Android smartphones as " Tablet remote" , either via bluetooth (the one I 'm using ) and via WIFI ;
- Mousepade mini keyboard with integrated bluetooth as always RII or RII MINI MINI I8 ELEGANCE with Italian layout ;
- Joystick or gamepad bluetooth.
On the net you will find various models , at prices affordable even .
Unfortunately, this side of the adapter port microusb myDP only allows you to power your device while mirroring, and not to accept a USB OTG adapter ( tried but it does not work , at least in this model), but I think it is a very common problem (maybe because that port was enabled only for the voltage and not for data ), and we must be satisfied that performs its function very well.
I remember that during the G Pad mirrored by SLIMPORT not require any power supply (optional) for proper operation , while for devices that use the MHL format (like many Samsung ) was mandatory .
This mode , however, was to be preferred to that of type " miracast " , more expensive , less fluid and problematic.
I think that with an additional HDMI to VGA or HDMI to DVI interface you can also safely projectors in case you need to make presentations in a professional field .
See you soon friends.

Working Slimport to HDMI Cable
I bought one in Hong Kong !
It's NOT an Adapter, it's a direct micro USB to HDMI male plug Cable !!! with optional micro usb plug for charging !!!
HKD - $200 = around USD $25 - 26
It works on my LG G Pad with the CM 11 nightly cm-11-20140119-NIGHTLY-v500.zip ROM
for french customers
if you look for this slimport (1.8M SlimPort / MYDP vers HDMI femelle Adaptateur pour Google Nexus 4 E960/ Google Nexus 7 2103/ LG Optimus G Pro / Fujitsu Arrows Tab / Asus Padfone Infinity) for an example have a look to different sellers, amazon : 17€95, priceminister : 10€56. free shipping for both sites. it has the advantage to have a male interface for hdmi.
I bought one from here
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Slimport-My...exus-5-4-7-II-2013-LG-E960-D820-/181285491912
Do not buy this adapter. There is a delay/lag from Gpad to HDMI and while the seller specifically states it works with the GPad it doesn't charge the tablet sufficiently. While using it (I have tested it while mirroring and also with HDMI male port unplugged) the Gpad will slowly discharge despite showing as charging on the tablet. When plugged into my HTC one (which is MHL naturally not Slimport) it reports as slow charging so its not just the Gpad causing the problem.
Pissed off now after waiting weeks for delivery. Will attempt to get a replacement that actually works from the ebayer and will shout back if its the same story as the 1st.
amazon.co.uk/SlimPort-Adapter-Converter-Google-optimus/dp/B00EZ2MN68/ref=sr_1_14?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1390559286&sr=1-14&keywords=Slimport
is that the same tha you got MetalmanIX
Just an update on the ebay Slimport seller I bought mine from. They declared it faulty and offered a refund straight away. In my suspicious mind that says either they are out of stock (which they are not as they are still selling) or they have no confidence in their product that a replacement would charge the LG Gpad. Won't be buying from them again.
And an update on mine - it never arrived. The vendor responded quickly to my communications but it hasn't shown up after the expected arrival time. Good on the vendor to quickly refund my purchase. If it suddenly DOES arrive I'll let y'all know.

For those interest mine arrived today and with a few minutes of testing it looks like its working perfectly!
Also, took only 17 days to arrive from Hong Kong to Europe(Greece).
On the downside, this guy just doubled the price of it!!!!! I bought it for 15.28USD and its now selling it for 35.28USD!!!!
Such a shame.

Wireless HDMI dongle

Hi does anyone know of a wireless HDMI dongle that works with the GPad for home use? I have a slightly odd setup so will need to do the sound via the headphone socket (and don't want audio delay). In theory HDMI 1.3 should work it out. Does anyone know of a dongle that is worth trying? There seems precious little information out there...

Not wireless, but I bought a cheapo slimport off of eBay and it works just fine... Lots of Miracast options there too, but I can't make a recommendation.

Thanks, which slimport did you get? That would certainly be the safer option for my purposes (and cheaper!). There seem to be some costing £7 and some costing £30. I have no idea if it is a passive device, in which case they should all be the same, or if there is actually some electronics in the slimport in which case perhaps best to get a more expensive one.
The miracast options on ebay all have very mixed reviews...
I got one of these:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/6FT-Slimport...DA_Cables_Adapters&hash=item338b30046e&_uhb=1
I specifically got that one because I'd rather have my charging plugin at the BACK of the TV instead of tangled up in the front. Most Slimport adapters have the USB end and the charging end within inches of each other.
I find it works just fine, and the G-Pad will also let you do other stuff while the video is mirrored on the screen (yet another thing the iPad! doesn't do!). The only thing that doesn't work well is charging while plugged into the TV - as it's designed for phone use, it's only a trickle / 500mA charge (if that), which will keep the G-Pad going but won't charge appreciably (or at all) while you're outputting to the TV. Better just to use it only for the TV and keep your regular charger for direct use.

Happy to go with either miracast or chromcast so long as it does what it is supposed to do, the video quality is good (eg for watching netflix on my 1080p projector) and i can use the headphone socket on the LG Gpad (not the amp as it doesnt have hdmi). But I suspect miracast is better for netflix?

Does anyone have any miracast experience? The reviews on Amazon are shocking and I can't believe it is that bad...
My g pad works well with the official samsung allshare cast hub. So the tablets screen gets monitored on the tv.

Thanks. They seem to get much better reviews on amazon, but at £50 they also seem to cost double. I guess one has to pay up for this! Is there much of a lag? Not worried about gaming, but more about lipsync with the headphone output on the LG against the video...
I brought mine of ebay for £40. It does have some lag but not too much lag and so it good for internet and look at images. Games also work but u might notice some lag 1/10 Times.

Well in the end I "played safe" and got a CAMAC SlimPort (rathern than miracast). I plugged it into my 1080p projector but nothing comes out. Do I have to set anything on the LG? It is running LG's Kitkat. I note that if I try to set the Miracast toggle, then it wont allow it saying there is an external monitor connected.

For anyone that is interested, I finally got this going. Had to use a different HDMI cable. Video quality on netflix is pretty good, although it is a bit jerky. Guess I will have to watch a whole film to really see how it goes. The sound out of the headphone socket is definitely delayed and there is an easily noticeable lipsync problem with it, but I would say it is tolerable...
It's not cheap but from what I have read the Amazon Fire TV and Allcast could have screen monitoring with sound remaining with the device casting the screen. I haven't been able to locate where I read this though.
Netflix works very well using the ~$50 Belking HDMI 2.0 Miracast Dongle. Virtually flawless playback.

[Q] Screen resolution through DVI adapter

I am experiencing weird bug. Connecting to DVI monitor through adapter direct forces 640x480. Through AV receiver black screen at all, only audio works. I guess my monitor or adapter is the reason, however this setup works well with raspberry pi (1280x1024).
Does anybody using HDMI to DVI adapters to connect Fire Tv? Is there any way to force resolution? Changing through gui is disabled for me.

I'm having a similar problem. My TV is old and doesn't have an HDMI port, so I'm using an HDMI to DVI adapter as I did with my Pi. My screen goes black right after "Checking for Updates"
This is apparently an HDCP issue, which I don't know much about. My TV's DVI port is supposed to be HDCP compatible. There are "active" adapters that can fool the Fire TV and make it work, apparently, but I'm trying to get it working without having to spend another $30 on another stupid adapter.
It's a very disappointing bug, I guess. When I connecting it through receiver my monitor shows 1280x720 but screen is always black. However rarely I can catch flickering with signal. It means monitor support this (720p) resolution. On direct connection it works, but at 640x480 and not allow to change resolution. I thinking about buying optical audio cable to connect it to receiver directly but it's about 30$ and resolutions is so odd. I hope this will be fixed with new OTA. So if anyone is thinking about to buy Fire TV to use with DVI monitor, right now it looks like a bad idea. I'd rather bought something other if know that.

I got my TOSLINK cable for about $5 (with Prime shipping) from Amazon, and a TOSLINK to stereo RCA converter from eBay for $13.
When you get the black screen, if you unplug the HDMI and plug it back in with the right timing (fairly quickly but not too quickly) you can kind of make it work. It looks like crap but the menus are navigable. The first time, I had colorful static with the clear picture flashing through every 5 seconds or so. I reseated the HDMI cable again a few more times and it came up clear (except for the terrible resolution).
Thank, I will check for cheaper dealer. The price I've talking about is for belkin cable. As for you hack thanks for information may be it will be helpful for someone. Behaviour you describing stopped for me after first OTA. Right now I always get crap resolution on direct connection without flickering. But before update it flickers continuously too. I hope next OTA will fix it. May be drop a line to amazon is make sense?

Finally I've bought a cheap TOSLINK cable, and was really disappointed to find it almost quiet. For an hour trying to switch different modes on Fire TV and AV receiver. My last hope was factory reset and it helps, so, I'm with sound right now it's much better, but still on a crap resolution. I hope Amazon will fit it, I believe hardware is ok.
Sound works for a day and again disappeared. I think for some reason device forced routing it to HDMI. I've just leave it along for a day and after woke up uncovered no sound. However receiver show, that signal is ok, if not it is blinking. But signal is silence. I started to think about selling this piece of crap.
I found some info about this bug. It's a well known android problem.
Some sources mention it was fixed since 3.8 kernel issued.
Current firmware incorporates 3.4. I hope next update will fix this.

Any updates on the situation? I was hoping to temporarily connect my Fire TV to a monitor that also only has DVI input. I do have an HDMI-DVI-cable but it's going to be another two weeks unti the actual Fire TV is released here in Germany.

The last version I've checked was second update which not affects root. And problem still present. However with low resolution it works, I believe this is a kind of safe mode. Currently my monitor is burned out, so no news.

Well, finally, I've checked this DVI-HDMI adapter with brand new monitor and got the same results. Possibly it's an adapter issue. However Raspberry Pi works well through it, but Fire TV only in safe mode on two different displays.

Did anyone manage to work out a solution?
I'm having a similar issue with an hdmi to dvi adapter - works fine if hooking up to a monitor via hdmi, but if using the adapter it only outputs 480p - and says the monitor doesn't support higher resolutions. I'd love to be able to use the AFTV with an older, larger DVI-only monitor that I have.
