Sluggish? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had the G4 for week now and find it a little sluggish? Im coming from a galaxy s4 and am surprised by a few noticable lags. Anyone else? Opening the app drawer, clicking a notification to launch the app and waiting for the keyboard to appear to name a few.

Try this, it seems to help.

Having the same problem. I enabled developer options and it shows force gpu rendering as being unchecked. Anything else I can try?

Try clearing cache in the smart notice app or clearing it from the home page and installing Google keyboard. My lag has gone now

Actually simply enabling developer options has fixed my lag issue. I guess with developer options disabled, force gpu rendering is on.

Be careful with enabling GPU rendering, I fried the GPU on my G3 doing that and it bricked the phone.

Wow such a liar. GPU rendering doesn't cause the CPU to fry you obviously did something else.

It did on mine, I can assure you. It only happened after I enabled it in the dev settings. My screen started flickering and an hour later died. I assume it was the extra workload on the GPU as it was having to constantly render the screen with no CPU help.

You must be the only one that had this happened to.. If this comes close to remotely happening, which I doubt, you should be in line for a warranty repair.
There's nothing in the developers option that voids your warranty

I got it replaced under warranty and since then I've never on any of my phones used the GPU for rendering.

Just disable absolutely everything including all the features the phone came with. That's basically all you can do and people seem to be okay with that. SMH

Disabling gpu rendering definitely helped but the phone is still not buttery smooth. Not like the G3. Is this sluggishness not a big problem since I can't find much about it. I'm trying to figure out if it's an app causing the problem. I'm using Nova instead of default launcher.

My G4 got a little smoother when I did the following:
By enabling Dev. options, go to drawing, then set all the following to .5x
Widow animation scale
Transition animation scale
Animator duration scale

Changing launchers, in addition to enabling dev options, seems to have helped some for me.

This guide worked for me got my T-mobile G4 partially debloated. Just disable what you are sure about being bloatware http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/debloater-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294

Hey there! Sorry about my noob post here, but the last few days I've been searching for posts about the G Pad Flex V496 with no luck..? I'm looking for a stock firmware download to truly reset the device, as gapps is vomiting error messages in succession. My BJ's unevolved friend messed it up, any advice? It's from T-mobile and neither they or LG have a firmware download I could find. thank you for being patient and all help is appretiated

Thanks for this! I also read somewhere that disabling HW Overlays does it, and though it reduced flicker on my device, it didn't kill it. Also, i have no idea what HW overlays are.

Disabling the HW overlays will make scrolling not as smooth in certain areas. Its really noticeable on the home screens with transition effects.

EDIT ehi,but it's warez!!!!!!!!!!!PULL IT OFF!

there is no problem with the display. its a power-saving feature which doesnt save any power from what i was able to find out.
problem is that it washes out your colors. its extremly visible when you watch video for 10-20min and then press HOME. it stays like this for good 30+sec. after that it goes back to normal. watching a lot of movies, its visible whether I have this turned ON/OFF.

I would like the option of disabling Lockscreen Widgets completely

How do the rest of you feel? I can see why they can be useful to people but to me they are too much trouble, even if the slowdowns and security issues get fixed.
You really have lots of stuff to complain about.
Anyways I find the widgets very useful. Glad they added them finally.
What security issues do you encounter? Besides someone reading part of a text message or email?

They also can help prevent accidental pocket-dials (or whatever else). As it takes a bit more effort to drag to a target, opposed to just tapping on a direct dial shortcut on your home screen.

Solution: Don't use the message/email widget on lock screen.
Seriously, it's one thing to complain about issues that affect the performance of a phone and how it's used and another to complain about completely trivial matters that are purely personal taste. Your complaints seem to be the latter.
You don't have to use the lock screen widgets. Sure, you'll get the screen edge reminders that there are pages on either side(for about a second), but they fade away.
I personally don't care for the lock screen widgets. I usually forget they're there. Would I want them completely removed? Nah, Google might have something in mind for them later down the road.

There's no reason not to disable them completely except your issues with me complaining. Get over your bias and see that this OS should be about having lots of options. If we don't want to use lockscreen widgets, we should be allowed to disable them entirely, simply because we don't need them enabled if we don't use them at all to begin with.
What we need is a single widget with clock weather missed calls etc. It should be here soon. If not then use widgetlocker or a ROM with 4.1 style lockscreen. This is android device there are always going to be options.

Unless you do what certain people say and keep Android as a base with very few or no options and having to depend on 3rd party developers to give you something else to do with your phone.
Android shouldn't follow this iPhone model when doing things. It should have plenty of built-in options as well as 3rd party options, not a lack of the former.

[Q] Terrible lag when turning off the screen?

Has anyone else noticed that there a noticeable lag when turning off the screen? The slight fade out animation seems to stutter and there is about a 1-2 second delay from when i press the power button to it actually doing something. This is probably one of the weirdest places for a phone to lag.
Anyone else have this problem?
I'm running on stock rooted BTW.
EDIT (more info): This doesn't happen right after a factory reset. I takes a bit of time for it to happen which makes it seem like some app messing it up, but it happens even if there isn't anything installed besides the default stuff.
