Is there a seperate thread fr the 2 gb variant of zenfone 2 - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there going to be a seperate thread fr the 2 gb variant of this device and will the roms that r gonna be made fr 4 gb variant will be ported to 2 gb variant too?

Dont worry. Why do you think they wont make a rom for 2gb version?

dude i just got this device a weak ago and i m in love with it...since i found no seperate section for 2 gb variant and people have been talking about mostly 4 gb version..it made me wonder if development was gonna happen fr this device too..?

They are the same device. We dont need separate thread. It doesnt matter what CPU it has or how much RAM is in it. They are all ZE551ML model.

before buying this i was told by many people and it was written at many forums that only the flagships evices with snapdragon chipset are biggest recipient of all the development, and devs usually dont like compiliing roms on intel based cpu devices.hence zenfone 2 might never recience any cynogen or aosp based roms ..is it ture?...i rooted my previous xperia deivce and installed a couple of roms and kernels so i have a fair idea of how this all works but i m still kinda noob to all this...

Cm12 rom is being build right now and someone is making a kernel. Remeber other phones cant run win7 or 8 so smooth.

The ZE551ML has an unlocked bootloader, ours does not. I'm starting to lose hope in this phone.

I think he is talking about the 2 gb ram version.m not aware..of bootloader status but its just that most of discussion here is bein done about 4 gb ram version..so i just have feeling that we might not get any rom ported fr 2gb version..i am not a dev myself..so i have a humble request to all devs to port roms made fr 4gb version on 2 gb version as well thank you..the present stock rom has severe memory leak problem..

Well there are 2 versions of 4gb version. 1,8Ghz and 2,3ghz cpu. I dont think there would be such a problem to do a bit of code to make it work on 2gb of ram.

As a 2gb ZE551ML owner, I can assure you that we don't have anything to worry about us being supported. Same for the ZE550ML and ZE500CL especially, it may seem all the focus is on the highest spec models but we're all Zenfone 2 owners in the end.
This is how all new non-nexus devices have to start out until we can reach that adequate balance between models. Remember the saying, "Be together, not the same."

The ZE551ML exists in 3 configuration ...
2gb/1.8GHz
4gb/1.8GHz (mine)
4gb/2.3GHz
which are basically all the same phone! Kernels, ROMS and recoveries run on all the same!
The ZE550ML has also an unlocked bootloader (don't know about 550CL ... why made asus so damn many versions?!? )
And even the 550ML/CL are nearly the same. So nobody has to worry about not getting anything. When the Kernels etc are stable enough, somebody will port them to the other devices.
The people porting CM12.1 to our device are working pretty hard as far as i can tell (multiple commits a day on github).
What i really want to say with this is ... give it some time. The phone is pretty new and we have devs that are working on it :good:

ur reply gave me some hope...when I got this device I was worried that since it uses intel cpu its not gonna have many roms or kernel built fr it...but seeing the devs working so hard and community so active ..its only a matter of time

I am a 2gb base model owner and I can test to receiving all the same updates as the high end model. We are all treated as equals when it comes to updates and updates have been very frequent and this is extremely impressive when compared to the other smart phone manufacturers.

Which version to buy, 6810 or 6812 (Based on roms and mods availability)

Hello everybody!
Searching for a small (<4") and discrete smartphone (I am a little paranoid about drawing too much attention from robbers, my city is reeaaally dangerous) with an average camera I bought myself a Motorola Razr D1 recently, but found that it has lots of problems, like locked bootloader (no custom ROMs or CWM for it), the impossibility to control the cellphone through the earphone buttons (not even music playback!!!) and the promise of a KitKat update that has been delayed multiple times. So I decided to give it to my father and I am thinking about buying a Galaxy Fame for myself.
My doubt is which one I should buy. I don't care about dual SIMs, I'll only use one, my only concern is about the amount of development (ROMs and MODs) that is going to the 6810 and the 6812. I don't know why the 6810 is a little more expensive than the 6812 here in Brazil, but as long as its easier to find more stuff ready for the 6810, I'll buy it.
Thank you in advance
i think ,,,S6810 ,,cause in my country just released S6810 XD
or you can choose S6810P ,,S6810P have S beam and NFC,,better then S6810,he don't have any s beam or NFC :/
I recommend the single SIM version , (6810 P / L or M) as there are more custom rom's & mod's for it, I have a 6812B, there is little alternative rom's for it.
-
Lhe recomendo a versão single sim, (6810 P/L ou M) pois há mais custom rom's & mod's para ele, eu tenho um 6812B, é há poucas alternativas de rom's para ele.
It seems like I should buy the 6810 version , specially because there's a KitKat rom being developed for it right now, right (I know it's going really slowly, but it's still something). Thank you for your answers.
Just a quick last question: does the galaxy fame support HID bluetooth? Things like ípega bluetooth controller or similar?

In my personal opinion you should not buy any of these phones because they are very limited as hardware and also there is much to do to improve the performance.. Even with cyanogen mod or any other rom still will lag as hell because of the small amount of ram.. You should redirect to something that has minimum 1gb of ram with the price closer to this.. And as differences between the phones as hardware aren't any.. Only single problem is the modem and the baseband that are made specific to world local bands and networks..
As offtopic i am working now to a script for the s6810 rom that will preserve baseband and modem and it will be compatible with all single sim devices.. Same will apply for duos, where s6812 rom will be compatible with any of his local variants. Cheers!

The problem is that the other phones with the requirements I want (small, but with an better than average camera) are almost non-existance nowadays, with the exception of Razr D1 (which I already didn't like) and the Galaxy Fame. Anyway, does the Fame get really unusable because of the lack of ram? I don't usually install lots of stuff on my cellphone, and I love to tweak things to improve the performance, so I think it'll be ok for me, but thx for the warning
@RaphaelBarros I also suggest to also look for another device cause the 512 MB ram gets filled up fast with the applications of these days, with cyanogenmod it will probably lagg less but it will still lagg when you are filling up the ram. I suggest also like corsicanu said to find an phone with atleast 1gb ram.
And yes the kitkat progress is not going so fast :/ maybe I can get it booting atleast next friday but I am not sure since I can only try stuff on that phone for like 2 hours.
My own experience with 512mb ram was my google nexus one I believe and my lg optimus 2x. I had an real hard time to get it running normally without too much lagg.
@RaphaelBarros
try to search from local device from your country,,it will lowest then this device :/
or buy a old product but still good

[Q] Do you think the Zenfone 2 will receive attention from third-party devs and ROMs?

I was about to buy a OnePlus One, but on finding out about the Asus Zenfone 2, decided to hold until concrete pricing and reviews of the Zenfone 2 (the 1080p, 4 GB RAM, higher-clock CPU version) come in.
My main concern is about the Intel CPU inside the Zenfone 2. While its raw performance apparently beats the Snapdragon 801 in the OnePlus One (comparisons at fool.com/investing/general/2014/06/05/how-does-intels-atom-z3580-hold-up-against-qualcom.aspx), I'm worried about how much third-party devs and ROM-makers care about non-ARM/Qualcomm chipsets. I'm not sure about how quick and diligent Asus is with OS updates, and I'm not sure I'd be happy enough with their ZenUI ROM. I'd definitely like the option of alternative custom ROMs like CM, for example.
Do you think the Zenfone 2 will attract considerable dev interest to have a decent community of custom ROMs behind it? Or will a user probably be stuck with the manufacturer ROM and be at the mercy of Asus for OS updates?

Probably will not because of the intel chip but the good news is the custom lolipop rom is awesome!!!! No need for a custom rom
will will have root but thats about it
Asus is generally pretty good with updates, and with so much riding on this flagship, it won't lose the spotlight for a while. Developmentally, I'm expecting something along the lines of how the Xperia Z3 went, slow but steady. The LG and HTC will probably have more out of the gate, but considering their price tags, and the fact that it's nothing new, the ZF2 is what I'll be working with for the time being.
I think we will get some good custom roms like PA and CM. Only time will tell, and fortunately the processor. The previous zenfone had some custom roms, just with some complicated issues (likewise) but yeah we should get some custom roms

I don't know, ASUS always shares kernel source, there is x86, x64 AOSP source, the intel specs are mostly known. So it wouldn't be impossible to make a rom boot on the phone, but for full functionality we would need compatible binary blobs or more open documentation. But I'm more and more inclined to try it.

I see, well it's good to know Asus is open enough and the Intel support isn't locked away or anything. I trust that the highly capable persons and the ones like you who want to give it a shot will find ways to getting things off the ground once the time comes.
Fingers-crossed for readily available Intel chip support so even if everything starts slow, we'd still have the chance to bring out the device's best potential!
I'm very, very keen on the Zenfone 2, but if the Intel architecture will mean unavailability of complete, fully functional custom ROMs like CyanogenMod, I might think twice and opt for the OnePlus One, instead.
One of my greatest regrets with my last phone purchase (the Sony Xperia SL) was the low developer interest. The Xperia S had some, but the SL was far less popular, and using a ROM designed for the S meant losing out on the extra 200 MHz of processor speed, primarily.
I'm taking a look at the stuff here, and I think I can work with it. I do take some exception to the somewhat costly tools, however.
I think the Zenfone 2 will have a decent backing in terms of ROMs and such, considering the price range and what the phone is capable of.
Probably going to be one of the best value phones this year.

I'm happy to hear that you'll at least be one of the persons willing to take up the challenge, since any effort made is better than none. I myself wouldn't mind being a rom builder or at least assist with with the process since I have prior experience with my current Moto Atrix 2. I'm still a novice so I can't do any level of coding or kanging.
Along those lines, I do hope Asus is cooperative enough to enable as open rom development as possible to ensure they that they will maintain our loyalty to the Zenfone 2 line. They absolutely need to avoid OTA update fragmentation, locked bootloaders and poor software update support to any issues we all face. If they really play their cards right, they'll definitely make this their and our year for a revolutionary device worth working with!

Snapdragon and Exynos

guys, i was looking for a new device and came to note 4, but isee there 2 versions Snapdragon and Exynos
these benchmarks are old and since we are like nearly a year further since release in my country witch should i get of the 2
most ppl voted for the Exynos ver on this forum but i dont go read like 200+ posts,
what i want to do wit hthe device
gaming,
watching anime 10bit h264 / h265 mkv/flac
custom firmware something like archidroid witch i used on s3
help me out abit , the on paper reviews dont say everything its more about true phone power, stability, laggless, ofc speed to
as far as ive seen reviews , snapdragon is best in gpu depending stuff while Exynos does the multi process/task stuff but those revies are from 2014 dunno if anything has changed with the firmwares and so
Either one is okay. Depends on your carrier I would assume.
carries is kpn, but they are simlock free , kpn 4g with speed of 225Mbit for data, but that wasnt my question , i wanted to know witch is beter for feature , Snapdragon or Exynos both have cons and ups
snapdragon
more energy save
faster gpu
cons
slower load time eventhough it is 2.7ghz quad core
Exynos
faster multitask
faster loading aps
cons
faster battery drain
slower gpu
so i want ot make the right choice
Be careful my bro got the s6 with exynos, we rooted it and went looking for new roms but only found 2 and there isn't likely to be more because of the exynos

i see, thx for the warning but s6 is difrent from note right ?, the s6 is problematic bcus the edge ?
from what i have readed most ppl on xda voted for exynos on the poll yet no customs , i realy liked the customs like archidroid, it was fast , smooth, easy to use and install/setup and i was hoping there is one for the note 4 to but for me its a kind of difficult choice , so snapdragon has more custom roms faster gpu but its slower in performance and not 64bit ready, and the exynos is faster , slower gpu and less custom roms
the note4 is a difficult choice for me atm it seems

it was not directed at this version only, im from eu and i dont know what version i will get so im asking users how and what so i dont take the wrong turn, the version here probaly would be an internantional version like the s3 i had and i dont know what version the note 4 will be that i get, also have no clue how to spot what version is in box
While I am no expert on the difference between domestic and international phones for the US, from what I understand you will want to stick with exynos. The snapdragons are specific to the networks in the US. Will and do they work internationally? Yes. However, I believe you will run into issues with data with snapdragon phones internationally. I may be wrong on this so anyone can feel free to correct me but from what I understand, a note 4 with exynos will be better suited to the carriers internationally.
This is a US carrier section so many of us are not up on this info since we fairly rarely run into this. The general section for the note 4 will have more of an international following I believe.

i know i am partial to the snapdragon versions in all cases, the snapdragons include the available hardware for the fm radios, and even if the fm radio app is not included, u can use nextradio or even the spirit fm radio app from here at xda... and the snapdragons have always been easier to root/unlock booloader, etc., if u ask me... and the snapdragons just seem cooler to me, in a vibe sort of way...

They'll need the phone itself first if they wanna do work.
But then the T2U/C3 series has a lot of messed up or half-done work. Missing camera sensor folders, no QC 2.0, broken GPU governors. It's like they used this model as a test for newer ones.

But then the T2U/C3 series has a lot of messed up or half-done work. Missing camera sensor folders, no QC 2.0, broken GPU governors. It's like they used this model as a test for newer ones.

Slow, still doing work on their stuff. No devs with our phone, no work.
I'm going to move to the Redmi Note 4 soon, Snapdragon 652 at less than the price of the C3 with dev support. Give it up lol

Yes..
i was also thinking the same.. from few days..
ok..

Should I buy Helium or just go with hydrogen?

I know this topic has been discussed a few times already but i can't find the answers I'm looking for.
I don't know if i should go with the 128gb/4gb ram (helium) version or 32/gb ram (hydrogen) version.
My questions are:
1. Is there such a big difference in performance between the 4gb ram + snapdragon 652 and 3 gb ram + snapdragon 650? (~100$ price difference)
2 .Can you install hydrogen roms on helium? (miui for me doesn't seem very interesting)
The hydrogen community is a lot bigger than the helium one. (Probably because hydrogen has the same specs as the redmi note 3 pro)

Not really if you ask me. They are negligable if you won't do CPU intensive tasks. 3GB of RAM is sufficient if you ask me.
No, you certainly cannot. There are reports of folks who did this. They ended up with a hardbrick and they had to open the device up physically to flash it. MIUI is okay-ish. I would still prefer stock Android over it though.
1. I haven't used a Helium but I've read that there's no real difference in terms of real-world performance. Obviously there is a spec difference, but like I said I've read that the upgrade is so minor it's not really worth it unless you're dying for that extra internal storage. I've got the 32GB/3GB version with a 200GB Sandisk working just fine. Way more than enough storage for me!
2. I have read that you can flash Hydrogen ROMs on Helium with a few minor changes to the files (there's evidence of this in the official CM 14 thread), but like the previous poster said, I would not recommend this. Personally (and this is just my opinion...) every ROM available seems a little too buggy even for Hydrogen at the moment. The kernel source hasn't been out all that long and the source ROMs haven't had that much time to develop, so if you're looking to flash for a daily driver I'd wait a few weeks/months. (Seriously, just an opinion. I like my ROMs to be bulletproof!)

I didn't meant to flash firmwares on it. I meant use hydrogen custom roms that you install in recovery.

Yeah, I linked to it in my comment. lol.
Although it's Official CM, it's not bug free. Personally I think it's worth waiting a while, but each to their own!

Soo... No kernel source for helium means no development, right?

Well, according to a few people in this thread, Hydrogen and Helium share the same Kernel Source. So, I guess the only hold up would be optimisation for the hardware differences. i.e. getting the extra two cores online for the Helium's 652, etc.

Oh.. So there's not that much of a difference between the 650 and 652.
Get the Helium, it has more internal storage, more cores and when you go to sell it you'll get a little bit more for it.

There definitely isn't a huge difference between them, and it's debatable whether you'll see any real difference in daily use.
As ajsmsg78, you'll be able to resell the handset for a higher price later on, but you'll also be spending more to buy the 652 in the first place.
I already had a 200GB Sandisk that is only a few months old and I'm pretty used to 32GB internal storage. As I don't install many games 32GB is fine for me (I've still got 12GB internal free, and that probably won't change all that much). I use the 200GB for my entire music collection plus all photos and video I shoot.
It really is down to your particular circumstances. If you've got the dough, definitely go for the 652! 128GB internal would be great, especially when combined with a 200GB external!
If you're looking to grab a bargain, you'll be more than happy with the 650.
(When I purchased my handset the 128GB 652 was an extra $90-$100 more, which for me is a pretty big difference!)
